There was a mic drop moment at the end of an event in New York City celebrating 30 years of “The X-Files” when series creator Chris Carter reignited the debate around Dana Scully’s pregnancy.
Towards the end of “My Struggle IV,” the series finale episode in Season 11, Scully (Gillian Anderson) informs Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) that William (Miles Robbins) is not their son. He was an “experiment,” an “idea born in a laboratory” that she bore, Scully says. Mulder tries to come to terms with this revelation and says: “What am I now if I’m not a father?” Scully replies: “You are a father.” When Mulder asks: “What are you talking about?,” Scully places his hand on her stomach. “That’s impossible,” Mulder says and Scully replies, “I know, it’s more than impossible.”

Saturday Night Live veterans Molly Shannon and Steve Koren (Superstar, A Night at the Roxbury) are again joining forces for a new comedy currently in development at HBO, our sister site Deadline reports.
Koren will pen the project starring Shannon as a woman deeply addicted to celebrity news and gossip who finally agrees to get help after her friends and family stage an intervention. Ah, Y2K. The millennium bug that induced widespread fear over the possibility of a worldwide infrastructure crash once 2000 arrived becomes infectious fodder for a teen comedy infused with horror and nostalgia. Armed with a pitch-perfect, game-for-anything ensemble and great practical effects behind the carnage and calamity, A24’s latest offers up the most entertaining, funny-bone-tickling apocalyptic scenario since This Is the End.
Comedian and actor Kyle Mooney, who co-wrote the script with writer/producer Evan Winter, makes his directorial debut here. He kicks Y2K off with a potent dose of dial-up nostalgia as it sets the stage for one unpredictable 1999 New Year’s Eve party from hell. Shy teen Eli has an easier time connecting with his unrequited crush Laura (Rachel Zegler) over AOL, despite his extraverted best friend Danny’s constant nudging and encouragement to finally make a move. Armed with liquid courage and a “Y2K” CD mix,...

With so many A24 items looking for 2024 positioning, we wouldn’t be surprised if Kyle Mooney‘s feature debut waits for the next train to pass but we kinda like what a Park City premiere might do for the film. Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler, Julian Dennison, Lachlan Watson, Mason Gooding, The Kid Laroi, Tim Heidecker, Eduardo Franco, Miles Robbins, Alicia Silverstone, Fred Hechinger and Daniel Zolghadri populate what is bring coined as a disaster comedy. Production on Y2K would have taken place in New Jersey around the month of April. Mooney needs no introduction to most because of his work with SNL, but it’s worth mentioning that the actor, comedian, writer, producer was one of the co-writers on Dave McCary’s Brigsby Bear (2017) – a Sundance and Cannes selection.…...

Review: If you are a fan of Bill Burr’s stand-up comedy, you likely know what you are in for with Old Dads. Burr’s directorial debut is an amalgam of his observations and rants from his twenty-plus years as a comedian told through the fictional story of a trio of fifty-year-olds dealing with generational change. On the heels of a year that has seen semi-autobiographical films starring comedians like Burt Kreischer and Sebastian Maniscalco and the series Bupkis with Pete Davidson, Old Dads is a fictional story that relies heavily on Burr’s sense of humor. But, instead of capitalizing on Burr’s red-hot temper as a source of constant comedy, Old Dads is a relatively traditional movie that tries to tell several different kinds of stories without...

Judd Apatow has spent much of the 21st century showing America how dudes become men, his films built coming-of-age-like narratives for overgrown juveniles well into legal adulthood. In Knocked Up, Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd respectively modeled irresponsibility for twenty and thirtysomethings, and with This is 40, Rudd’s character stared down the barrel of middle age; in all cases, they arrived at the crucial realization that they need to stop clinging to vestiges of immaturity so they can provide for the people they care about. For these schlubs, the desire to stay young forever meant smoking weed during the daytime, bumping Wu-Tang with your friends and going to rock shows without getting your wife’s permission. For an ensemble in their 50s, however, rejecting the onward march of time becomes a far dicier proposition.

It looks like another stand-up comic has decided to expand on his stage persona and make the jump to a feature film. Of course, that’s nothing new as comedians have been doing this since the first filmed pratfall or wise-crack. Things are a bit more welcoming now as the onslaught of streaming services have put out a big “welcome mat” to the jokesters, raking in lots of new subscribers with taped comedy concerts, usually running about an hour or so, perfect for those needing a quick fix of laughter. It has worked for Kevin Hart and Amy Schumer, and Jo Koy’s autobiographical Easter Sunday certainly found an audience at the multiplex. Will the same happen to this touring comic who pushes against the current culture? Well, it’s going straight to streaming, which might be the perfect home for a trio of Old Dads.

Three fiftysomething jerks extend their adolescence way, way beyond the breaking point in Old Dads, a boorish and obnoxiously vulgar comedy that, since it can’t claim any other great distinction, might well have been expressly written to break the all-time record for use of the f-word in the major studio movie. Even Lenny Bruce might be twitching in his grave over this one.
All the same, director/co-writer Bill Burr has more often than not had his finger on the pulse of the populace, so this slap-dash-feeling Netflix offering likely will prove a solid audience-pleaser.
There certainly have been plenty of comedies featuring guys who put off behaving like adults for as long as they can; perhaps The Odd Couple still stands as the quintessential example of this subgenre whose roots go pretty deep. In this case, the three buds behave as if they should be enrolled, not in grade school,...

“Old Dads,” a Netflix comedy about three middle-aged dads in Los Angeles, each trying to deal with the delayed pleasures and perils of fatherhood, sounds like a Hollywood satire to watch along with “Bad Moms,” or maybe the sort of broad burlesque of child-rearing that would star someone like John Cena. Actually, though, it’s not that sort of movie. It was directed and co-written by Bill Burr, who also stars in it, and it’s been spun out of the kind of prickly incorrect observations that are the hallmark of Burr’s stand-up comedy — and also the kind of squirm comedy that powers his anthology series “Immoral Compass.” “Old Dads” isn’t nearly as good as “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” but at times it feels like three episodes of that show jammed together — that is, if Larry David were a Gen-x firecracker whose anger-management issues make Larry look like a pussycat.

"Maybe I'm not cut out for this... but I'd do anything for my kid." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a comedy called Old Dads, marking the feature directorial debut of comedian / actor Bill Burr. Burr co-writes, directs, produces and stars in this film for Netflix. Thankfully it doesn't seem to have anything to do with Wild Hogs or anything else like that. Burr co-stars with Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine, who play the titular "old dads". Three best friends become fathers later in life and find themselves battling preschool principals, millennial CEOs and anything created after 1987. The comedy cast also includes Katie Aselton, Reign Edwards, Rachael Harris, Miles Robbins, and Jackie Tohn. This doesn't seem like it's going to reinvent comedy, but it also doesn't look as bad as it very easily could look. There's a few solid jokes in here, and some super cringe humor – which is actually kind of amusing.

"Halloween" as we know it comes to a close when "Halloween Ends" hits theaters and Peacock on October 14. Over the last 44 years, the Michael Myers saga has bestowed fans with plenty of tricks and treats and numerous characters we've come to cherish. What started as a low-budget indie film helmed by John Carpenter, Debra Hill, and a scrappy team of actors and crew ignited a slasher phenomenon.
After 14 films, including Rob Zombie's 2007 remake and its sequel, the most well-known horror franchise is finally burying the Boogeyman — at least according to the original mastermind, John Carpenter. Although, Carpenter has said recently he wouldn't be surprised if the franchise carried on. "I guarantee you if 'Halloween Ends' makes a lot of money, guess what? Just guess what," he told a crowd at Pennsylvania's Steel City Convention.
We're celebrating the end of an era with a ranking of the franchise's 12 best characters.

Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins met on the set of the 1988 raunchy sports comedy "Bull Durham." In the movie, a promiscuous middle-age baseball groupie (Sarandon) enters a relationship with a considerably younger and in-over-his-head Minor League Baseball rookie pitcher (Robbins) for the predetermined term of a single season. The film led to Sarandon gaining a Golden Globe nomination -- and a new family.
In a case of life imitating art (minus the baseball plot), Sarandon and Robbins entered a relationship the same year. The couple had two sons together, Jack and Miles Robbins. In a 2020 Build Series Q&a, Sarandon shared her children's responses...

With a resume that reads like a horror geek’s ultimate movie marathon, Ted Raimi has been making unforgettable contributions to the genre for decades. From his brother Sam Raimi’s beloved Evil Dead films to classics like Candyman and The Grudge, he’s just about seen and done it all when it comes to horror. But when he signed on to join the cast of The Quarry, Supermassive Games’ latest entry in their signature line of choose-your-doom horror games, he stepped into a project that felt entirely new.
“It’s like nothing I’ve ever done before,” Raimi tells Den of Geek. “On other games I’ve done before, developers will create characters based on images of you, and then you come in later and just voice the thing. But for The Quarry, my castmates and I were on set, interacting with each other in real-time. All of the...

Given that The Quarry is the latest horror game from the brilliant minds behind the modern genre classic Until Dawn, it should come as no surprise that the game’s cast is filled with horror character tropes voiced (and often motion-captured) by a lot of familiar names.
Indeed, part of the fun of playing a game like The Quarry comes from trying to figure out where you know so many of its cast members from. While a few names will jump out at you instantly, others most certainly fall into that “Oh yeah, I know them” category.
So if you’re tired of scratching your head over who is who in The Quarry, here’s a breakdown of the game’s cast of primary characters and where you might know their actors from.
Abigail Blyg – Voiced by Ariel Winter
Abigail is a shy and occasionally awkward camp counselor who seemingly aspires to be an artist.

Having interviewed David Arquette two years ago for the release of his documentary, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to speak to the actor again, but this time, for something a little different. Arquette is one of the stars taking on a role in new interactive horror video game, developed by Supermassive and published by 2K Games, and is released on all major platforms today. We discussed his own relationship with games growing up, whether he’s competitive, and what it’s like seeing his own face in a game. He also talks about the return of Scream, and discussing the most recent sequel with fans – and we of course ask whether he may return for another….

Hellish special effects overwhelm the story of a college student and his imaginary buddy, played by Patrick Schwarzenegger
There are touches of M Night Shyamalan and Donnie Darko in this enjoyably ludicrous low-budget psychological-horror, directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer, about an imaginary friend who turns nasty. It’s full of plot holes but compulsively watchable for the first hour, before the whole thing falls to pieces as Mortimer chucks in a load of well-worn horror-movie tropes.
Miles Robbins plays Luke, an unconfident arty law student who as a kid had an imaginary friend called Daniel – a coping mechanism to help him deal with his dad walking out, or so everyone believed. Now Luke is in college and Daniel is back, charming and sinister, and played by Arnie’s son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, giving a show-offy performance like an evil Ferris Bueller.

Sasha Lane as Cassie in Daniel Isn't Here
Ever since she burst onto the screen with American Honey in 2016, it has been apparent that there’s something special about Sasha Lane, something fresh and different that brings a sense of realism to the films she appears in. That quality is all the more important in a film like Daniel Isn’t Real, which combines fantasy elements with distorted perception and narrative uncertainty. It’s also something she needs alongside co-stars Miles Robbins (the son of Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins) and Patrick Schwarzenegger (son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver), making her presence felt despite the fact that the get the lion’s share of the dialogue.

Joker and new psychodrama Daniel Isn’t Real depict mental health issues in outré terms – but is there a benefit to this more expressionist approach?
It probably qualifies as a collective delusion that Arnold Schwarzenegger was a leading means of on-screen male wish-fulfilment in the 1980s. More than 30 years on, male wish-fulfilment still comes with those facilely superior Schwarzenegger features attached. His son, Patrick, plays the childhood imaginary friend who comes to the aid of a depressed student photographer in the new mental health-themed psychodrama Daniel Isn’t Real. At first, Daniel is egging on beleaguered Luke (Miles Robbins) to play the sensitive artist for the ladies; next thing, the alter ego is hijacking Luke’s body to engage in rough sex in underground tunnels and murdering his therapist.

It probably qualifies as a collective delusion that Arnold Schwarzenegger was a leading means of on-screen male wish-fulfilment in the 1980s. More than 30 years on, male wish-fulfilment still comes with those facilely superior Schwarzenegger features attached. Arnold Schwarzenegger is opening up about his son Patrick Schwarzenegger’s acting skills — including his steamy sex scenes.
The actor, 72, spoke to Fox La on Friday, revealing it “was wild watching” Patrick, 26, act in his recent film Daniel Isn’t Real.
“His acting was so extraordinary, he’s so talented and all of a sudden there’s this sex scene all of a sudden. It was wild,” Arnold said.
The former California governor also revealed that he received a heads up about his son’s nude scene by his ex-wife Maria Shriver.

When I first took notice of Miles Robbins he was a stand-out among stand-outs in the surprisingly satisfying teen comedy Blockers. Now he presents another level of his talent in the very thoughtful psychological horror film Daniel Isn’t Real. In this episode he talks about the intense, emotionally taxing experience he had creating that performance, how not being scared is a key ingredient in his work, and the importance of connecting with the duality within himself and the universe. Plus he generously shares his feelings and frustrations with this “weird” endeavor called acting and all the hoopla that surrounds it. Back […]...

Patrick Schwarzenegger has a process for reading scripts. On his first time through, he’s just trying to get a sense of the story. Then he goes back and re-reads it through the eyes of the characters. On his third pass, he tries to put everything together thematically.
Even with such a specific methodology, Schwarzenegger, the 26-year-old son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, says he was initially caught off guard by the premise of “Daniel Isn’t Real,” about a young man named Luke (Miles Robbins) with an imaginary friend who goads him into committing violent acts. “When I first read the script, I was a little bit, like, ‘Whoa! What the f— is going on?,’” Schwarzenegger says. “And then, as I read it more, I got really interested. It brought up current issues — mental health and how pertinent it is today with young men, and the idea of toxic masculinity.
