Christopher Nolan is one of the definitive filmmakers of this generation. The Oscar-winning director recently made the biopic Oppenheimer, which won big at the Academy Awards this year. The director is known for his blockbuster films, which are as cerebral as they are thrilling and have garnered a loyal worldwide fanbase.
Nolan has also been a vocal supporter of other films. While he has professed his love for Stanley Kubrick, he has also appreciated films that are not considered high art such as the Fast and the Furious franchise. However, one film that reportedly blew his mind was Emma Stone’s 2016 musical La La Land, for which she won her first Academy Award.

Julio Torres’ new HBO series Fantasmas takes its name from the Spanish word for “ghosts,” which Torres’ fictionalized alter ego wants to use for a clear crayon. When a Crayola executive asks why anyone would want such a thing, Julio argues, “Some things aren’t the normal colors, or play by the rules of the rainbow.”
Torres himself has no interest in normal colors, whether in his movie Problemista or his previous HBO show, the surreal supernatural buddy comedy Los Espookys. He can look at ridiculous things and treat them with intense seriousness,...

As a writer for “Saturday Night Live” from 2016 to 2019, Julio Torres was able to create immersive worlds — the existential melancholy of a sink; the font obsession of an “Avatar” super fan — in just a few minutes’ worth of sketch. Over time, the comedian has only acquired more space and resources to realize his singular vision. Since 2019, Torres has co-created and co-starred in the surreal sitcom “Los Espookys”; recorded the hourlong special “My Favorite Shapes”; and directed his feature debut, “Problemista,” acting opposite Tilda Swinton. With every added level of authority, Torres has assumed even greater control of the ultra-specific sensibility evident in his earliest “SNL” breakouts. Torres’ imagination yields glamorous, distinctly queer realities with the logic of a fairy tale, grounded by the bemused frustration of an author who had to traverse the American immigration system to bring his dreamy art to life.

Art print by Aleksander Walijewski for Poor Things. In the last roundup, from October, three out of the four most popular posters on my Movie Poster of the Day Instagram over the previous six months were posters for Yorgos Lanthimos’s Poor Things (2023)—two teasers and an official-release poster, all by the great Vasilis Marmatakis—which at that time was still almost two months away from its US theatrical run. So it's no surprise that the most "liked" poster since then is also a poster for Poor Things, an art print by the young, prodigiously talented Polish artist-designer Aleksander Walijewski. What was a surprise, however, is that this poster has racked up more than 10,000 likes since early February, making it by far the most popular poster ever on my Instagram, doubling its nearest competitor (Marmatakis’s original Poor Things teaser). And, making it feel as if Movie Poster of the...

In a world where sequels, prequels, and reboots often flood the Hollywood scene, it almost comes as shocking news when actors and filmmakers notify that a specific project won’t be revisited. On a similar note, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg recently made a resounding declaration to keep some of their movies sacred.

Lily Gladstone has no hurt feelings about having lost to Emma Stone at the 96th Academy Awards. In fact, Gladstone says the two agree they shouldn’t have been pitted against each other.
“Emma and I talked about it, and had wonderful conversations about how ridiculous it is to place art in competition,” she tells Variety while discussing her current Emmys campaign for “Under the Bridge.” “Awards are supposed to be giving accolades to the art no matter what. It’s like you’re awarding just by acknowledging and nominating, really, but then this competitive nature takes over. How does that work in something so subjective and personal as art?”
There’s a consensus among pundits that Gladstone would have been more likely to win an Oscar if she’d campaigned as a supporting actress instead of in the lead category. Playing Mollie Burkhart, she appeared in just 56 minutes of “Killers of the Flower Moon,...

Being one of the most popular superheroes, Spider-Man has been the subject of numerous adaptations, each representing its own iterations of Peter Parker and the web-slinger. While some of these have become a fan favorite, such as Tobey Maguire, and achieved huge commercial success, such as Tom Holland’s venture into the MCU, Andrew Garfield’s stint as The Amazing Spider-Man remains the least favorite.

However, as all the Spider-Man movies once again hit the theatres in celebration of Columbia Pictures’ 100th anniversary, the worst-rated adaptation has managed to surpass the MCU blockbuster No Way Home.

Lanthimos has frequently collaborated with two-time Academy Award-winning actress Emma Stone in the last decade. However, having been raised by a professional basketball-playing father and basketball instructor, Yorgos Lanthimos was initially drawn into the world of professional basketball. His professional career as a basketball player was cut short after sustaining an injury. This setback led Lanthimos to study film and television directing at...

The NCIS universe is getting a big expansion quite soon as the franchise is set to welcome two more spinoffs into the family with one of them putting its focus on Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ earlier years as a Special Agent. The upcoming series hasn’t received its release date yet, but what we definitely know so far is that Mark Harmon’s role is now officially passed to Austin Stowell.
Though NCIS’ lovers may never have heard the actor’s name before, his filmography is surely worth checking out, as it features some quite famous flicks, and you probably never knew Stowell was in there too.

Natalie Portman is an Oscar-winning actress who has been quite prolific throughout her three decade film career, but how many of her titles remain classics? Let’s take a look back at 16 of Portman’s greatest movies, ranked worst to best.
Portman made her acting debut when she was just 13-years-old with “Leon: The Professional” (1994), which cast her as a teenager teaming up with a hitman (Jean Reno) to avenge her family’s murder.
Her first Oscar nomination came just 10 years later: Best Supporting Actress for “Closer” (2004). The role of Alice, a stripper dating a writer (Jude Law) in love with another woman (Julia Roberts), brought her a Golden Globe victory, though the Academy went with Cate Blanchett (“The Aviator”) instead.

In the finale of “The Curse,” Whitney (Emma Stone) wakes up to discover her husband, Asher (Nathan Fielder), experiencing some unexplained form of reverse gravity on the ceiling above their bed. Panicked, the couple assumes it’s a result of an air pocket in their airtight, eco-friendly, passive home. But panic mounts to full-blown terror after Asher, with great physical effort and agility, navigates his way outside, and the only thing stopping him from being launched into the heavens is a large tree limb he holds onto for dear life.
While Asher spends the season concerned he’s been cursed by a tenant’s daughter (Hikmah Warsame), and the series composer John Medeski’s score more than hints at the cosmic, there was nothing that explains or prepares the audience for the surreal, seemingly-out-nowhere 40 minutes that concludes the season.

The concept of the limited series swept the TV world recently, and it felt like it happened overnight.
It is not an entirely new idea, as miniseries have existed since the time of radio dramas.
However, people lost interest in them at some point, and the era seemed to come to an end.
So much so that in 1991, the Emmy Awards merged Outstanding Miniseries with Outstanding TV Movie.
After numerous name changes to the category, the concept suddenly resurged -- the limited series was born.
With the popularity of American Horror Story, in 2015 they changed the category to Outstanding Limited Series.
TV Shows Should Make Stars, Not Depend On Them
But now, the idea carries almost no weight due to networks and streamers renewing the popular limited series and turning them into plain old series.

Director Yorgos Lanthimos’ highly-anticipated anthology film Kinds Of Kindness has a full trailer ahead of its release in the UK next month.
Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone revealed their latest collaboration, Kinds Of Kindness, to the world at Cannes this month. Following 2019’s The Favourite and last year’s Poor Things, hopes are high that the film formerly known as And will continue their hot streak.
An anthology film, Stone and her fellow actors play multiple roles across three stories. We’ll be able to see the movie for ourselves in just under a month’s time when it releases in the UK. In the interim, Searchlight Pictures has released the full trailer, which we’ve enclosed below.
Here’s a synopsis, which is admirably vague in its wording:

Searchlight Pictures dropped a full-length trailer for Kinds of Kindness Wednesday, and as is to be expected from a Yorgos Lanthimos project at this point, the film looks funny, unsettling, and above all else, strange.
Soundtracked to the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” much like the teaser from earlier this year, the new clip doesn’t give much away for what the movie’s actually about, but it does set the table for the uncomfortable vibes that Lanthimos will likely serve up in his “triptych fable.”

Just a few months after his eccentric alt-history sci-fi movie "Poor Things" swept the Oscars with four wins (including a Best Actress award for lead Emma Stone), director Yorgos Lanthimos is back with a new film. "Kinds of Kindness" once again stars Stone, alongside her fellow "Poor Things" performers Margaret Qualley and Willem Dafoe. And the talent doesn't stop there, with Jesse Plemons ("Breaking Bad"), Hong Chau ("The Whale"), Joe Alwyn ("The Favourite"), Mamoudou Athie ("Archive 81"), and Hunter Schafer ("Euphoria") also in the mix.
Lanthimos will really be getting the most out of that stellar cast by having each actor in three different roles. "We had started out with one story, but as we were working on it, we thought that it might be interesting to make a film that has a different structure to what we had done before," Lanthimos explains in the press notes, referring to himself and...

"Open your eyes, and look clearly at what's going on around you..." Searchlight Pictures has just unveiled another official trailer for Kinds of Kindness, the brand new Yorgos Lanthimos film arriving this summer to watch. It just premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival a few weeks ago, where Jesse Plemons won the Best Actor award at the end of the fest (here's our review). This triptych film features three medium-length stories in one long feature (that runs almost 3 hours in total). As his follow-up to the Oscar-winning Poor Things, Kinds of Kindness is described as an anthology film with three segments - following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability. The exquisite ensemble cast in this: Emma Stone,...

It kinda goes without saying that “Kinds of Kindness” is a unique film. All you need to know is that Yorgos Lanthimos directed it to realize this isn’t your typical comedy. And yet, even still, the film is unique even for the acclaimed filmmaker.

The trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos’ new film has arrived. The filmmaker has already followed up his Poor Things run with Kinds of Kindness, which reunites him with the Academy Award-winning star of his last film, Emma Stone, as well as her Poor Things co-star, Willem Dafoe. The new trailer from Searchlight Pictures displays the chaotic nature of the film, with all the clips feeling non-sequitur. And with Sweet Dreams providing the soundtrack for the trailer, it certainly hammers home the dream-like feeling of this abstract movie.

Ramy Youssef’s latest HBO special, “Ramy Youssef: More Feelings,” had been in the works for years — and had evolved over time as Youssef got in a relationship and eventually got married. But some of his routine also became very more front and center for audiences in the wake of the war in Gaza.
“There’s stuff that I do touch on, a tightrope walk of taking really big concepts, and then making them super personal,” Youssef tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast. “With our show [Hulu’s “Ramy”], we had already done that with Palestine and Israel. And in my stand up, I had already done versions of it. But in the last seven or eight months, it became something that has risen to the surface for everybody. When you’re taking your time to talk about it for 10 minutes in a set, it’s important to you. On a show,...

Hulu’s “Under the Bridge” could be the next big hit in the Best Limited Series category at this year’s Emmys, as this is a category that loves true crime miniseries. This one documents the harrowing murder of Reene Virk as police officers try to solve the case and a writer (Rebecca Godfrey) is drawn into the hidden world of those accused of murdering Virk. The series is based on Godfrey’s own book of the same name with “Daisy Jones & the Six” star Riley Keough, who also produces, portraying her. Meanwhile, “Killers of the Flower Moon” Best Actress Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone features as the police officer investigating the case.
This eight-episode miniseries, like any true crime series, is a tough watch at times but that makes it all the more vital. Meanwhile, the performances of Keough, Gladstone, and the teen-centric cast are all exquisite, as noted by critics.

In Martin Scorsese’s The Killers of the Flower Moon, Native American actress Lily Gladstone portrayed Mollie Burkhart, the wife of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in the movie. Molly went through Hell in the movie as her husband and his corrupt friends wanted to take what was not theirs for themselves. Her performance in the movie was lauded by fans and critics, and she was the favorite to win an Oscar in the main actress category. And while Gladstone ultimately lost out to Emma Stone, whose performance in Poor Things was absolutely majestic, the Oscar loss did not hold her back in any way.
In a recent talk with Empire, the actress revealed that she has numerous projects lined up and that offers just keep coming in. Knowing that she had almost given up acting, this is certainly a brilliant piece of information that confirms that the talented actress is...

Missing out on making (even more) Oscars history is ancient history to Lily Gladstone.
The “Killers of the Flower Moon” breakout could have been the first Native-American actress to win the Best Actress Academy Award — if not for Emma Stone’s physical and soul-baring turn as Bella Baxter in “Poor Things.” For now, being the first Native-American actress to be nominated for an Academy Award will have to do, but with all the projects and opportunities Gladstone’s got on her plate after “Killers” — including being a recent part of Greta Gerwig’s jury at Cannes — it’s easy to imagine more awards are on the way.

The Sci-Fi genre consists of some of the most inventive and life-changing films because by the very definition of the word the creators have to invent a fictional future or technology and while some of the films in this genre give us spectacle others give us a story that makes us think about the future and how our world is changing for better or for worse. So, today we thought of listing the best new sci-fi films you can watch at home right now and in this list, we didn’t include any film released before 2023.

"I can feel the inner lives of shapes and colors and sounds and numbers..." Wow that's strange. Max has revealed an official trailer for a wacky comedy series called Fantasmas, streaming this June. It's the latest creation of comedian / writer / actor Julio Torres, who stars in, writes, directs this series after releasing his Problemista film with A24 last year. Fantasmas translates directly to "ghosts" in Spanish, though this series is actually about a golden oyster, or dreams, or other weird things. Torres explores the peculiar world of folktales with a "fresh and unique twist on the classic tale of the lost golden oyster." Ever since he was struck by lightning as a child, he has seen the world in a different light. After experiencing weird dreams, Julio decides to embark on a journey through a surreal, alternate version of New York City. The series stars Torres with Martine Gutierrez, Tomas Matos,...

Cannes awards have become hugely influential in subsequent awards races, especially the Oscars. The top honor, the Palme d’Or, confers prestige and a stamp of approval — this year from the Competition jury led by multi hyphenate Greta Gerwig — that awards voters take seriously.

Lily Gladstone is opening up about the reaction to her Oscars loss once she went back home to the Blackfeet Nation following her busy awards season with Killers of the Flower Moon.
The actress was nominated for best actress during the March ceremony, but the Academy Award ultimately went to Emma Stone for Poor Things. However, Gladstone recently told Esquire that “nobody was upset” that she didn’t win.
The Under the Bridge star recalled her “beautiful trip home,” and how her tribe’s “whole confederacy came together for a Lily Gladstone Day. It was the biggest honor anybody could get. The confederacy decided together that they wanted to do it. It was a beautiful homecoming.”
She added, “Two thousand people showed up, from every corner of the US. It was absolutely one of the most moving things that has ever happened in my life.”
