Transformers One helped get things rolling Monday as the Annecy Animation Festival goes into full tilt.
Director Josh Cooley and Paramount Animation president Ramsey Naito addressed the crowd before showing a not-quite-finished version of the film in Annecy, France. The animated project’s star-studded voice cast (who were not at the screening) includes Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm.
“I’m very, very excited,” Cooley told the audience while introducing the movie that hits theaters Sept. 20. “So much talent and nostalgic love has gone into this movie.”
Cooley went on to thank the film’s team of the “greatest animators and CG artists in the world” and gave a shout-out to Industrial Light & Magic for their work on the feature. He added to the crowd, “I want to thank you all for being ‘audience one.'”

The opening title cards of Karim Aïnouz’s Firebrand state that history is written primarily about men and war, while “for the rest of humanity, we must draw our own—often wild—conclusions.” For audiences, it’s a warning of the revisionism to come in this story of Katherine Parr (Alicia Vikander), the sixth and last wife of King Henry VIII (Jude Law). It is, though, not a promise of a compelling or invigorating story, because the filmmakers, as intent as they were to play fast and loose in the sandbox of history, hardly explore the motives and emotions that drive Katherine as she balances her fealty to her husband and her friend Anne Askew (Erin Doherty), the famed poet who fought for the cause of English Reformation.
Instead, what follows is an often shapeless and rudderless film, focused mainly on whether or not King Henry trusts Katherine. (Spoiler alert...

Both Tom Hanks and Henry Winkler seem like just about the hardest guys in the business to feud with – and so they had it out with themselves! Not even two weeks into filming 1988’s Turner & Hooch, Winkler was fired from directing the film because he and Hanks just couldn’t jive. Don’t worry, Winkler and the French Mastiff got along just fine.
Appearing on the How to Fail podcast (via the New York Post), Henry Winkler remembered, “I did 11 weeks of preparation.I knew this dog. This slobbery mastiff and I became friends. Sufjan Stevens’ Illinois had been a formative album for director and choreographer Justin Peck, and so when it came to reinterpreting it for the stage, Peck felt a responsibility to do right by the other longtime fans.
After initially toying around with the format of the piece, Peck, who is resident choreographer of the New York City Ballet, turned to a dance-based show, without any dialogue. Instead, the narrative plays out through movement and songs from the album, performed by three vocalists and a band. The idea was to give fans something new to explore, via a new storyline, while tapping into their own experience with the album.
“It’s expressed in this way that almost feels like you’re watching a silent film, and it allows the viewer their own personal experience and even a little bit of room for them to meet it halfway with their own point...

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 was one of the many games revealed at the Summer Games Fest, 2024. The game’s announcement trailer was enough to build hype among loyal fans of the previous title.
The trailer’s aesthetic and cinematic brilliance go very well with the game’s premise, and its visuals seem grotesque and brutal, which is precisely what fans look for in a game of this kind. Fans are expressing their anticipation of the game on social media.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Trailer at the Summer Game Fast Inspires Awe Among Fans
Fans have long awaited the first-person RPG but were disappointed about the title not having a 60 fps mode at launch. As seen above, the trailer begins with a sentence about how man’s efforts and attempts do not always lead to desired outcomes. Much of the trailer has footage and dialogue usually associated with media forms set in medieval times.

The history of film is teeming with alternate endings that never saw the light of day, whether it's because of production troubles, executive meddling, or writers and directors simply changing their minds. In franchise-oriented blockbuster cinema, the practice of studying, testing, and even shooting different endings is especially prevalent, as those movies have to weather a host of artistic and commercial ambitions that the ending must facilitate simultaneously.
Superhero movies, with their precise storytelling geometry and enormous cultural presence, are particularly susceptible to having their endings reconsidered or reshot. There is an enormous pressure for superhero movie endings to work, to resolve the plot efficiently, to send viewers home buzzing for the right reasons. While that sometimes leads to great, refreshingly thoughtful storytelling decisions, it can also lead to conformity, blandness, and incongruence just as often -- especially when the ending has been changed out of sheer executive pressure.

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas worked together to develop the highly successful Indiana Jones franchise. But Spielberg has always asserted that Indiana Jones is Lucas’ story first. However, he did take credit for making one small contribution to the franchise.

Spielberg has been very loyal to Lucas when it comes to the Indiana Jones movies. Although a team effort, Lucas initially came up with the idea. And Spielberg simply did his best to bring Lucas’ ideas to life, even if he didn’t agree with them. The filmmaker wasn’t a huge fan of the direction Lucas wanted to take in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull for instance. But he acquiesced to his friend’s instincts.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has added another cast member to her upcoming take on The Bride of Frankenstein, and it's someone she knows very well.
In a new piece on the Spider-Man: Far From Home and Roadhouse star, THR reports that Jake Gyllenhaal has joined the cast of The Bride!, but don't reveal any details on his character.
Gyllenhaal (Maggie) recently took to Instagram to share the first ever production stills from the film, giving us a glimpse of Christian Bale as Frankenstein's Monster, and Jessie Buckley as the misunderstood creature's titular Bride.
We first heard about this project back in 2022 when it was being developed for Netflix, but a follow-up report indicated that the film had been shelved shortly after the Hollywood strikes got underway, and was being shopped elsewhere. More recently, we'd learn that Warner Bros. had acquired The Bride!, which is now set for a theatrical release on October 3rd,...

Things have certainly been taken up a few notches for the girls in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School Season 1 Episode 6 when Kelly's church puts on their production of Redemption House.
It's probably too late for a trigger warning as if you're here, then you've likely already seen the episode, but it wouldn't hurt for Max to put one out there for viewers who have had their own bouts with religious trauma.

That being said, it was an exciting shift in perspectives and priorities, as this episode almost felt self-contained beyond the Bloody Rose plot; luckily, the decision worked, for the most part, storywise.

With only two episodes remaining in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, the show has seemingly dialed everything up for a shocking season finale, and I’m not complaining. As the show has progressed, I’ve gotten more fond of the characters and also the campiness of the series. Sure, it’s not going to be an award-winning show, but from all the other teen dramas we’ve had recently trying to emulate or expand the universe of successful early to late 2000s shows, this one has got to be my favorite. I do feel the urge to protect these girls. However, with that said, I’m certainly lost as to who the big bad wolf of the second season is. In all honesty, I thought it might’ve been one of the dead girls resurrected, but the cliffhanger in this episode has left me quite shocked, as it did to the girls,...

The Emmy category for Best TV Movie has had a renaissance in recent years, with more high profile projects being exclusive to the medium. In this golden TV era, the level of talent on screen and behind the camera is at an all-time high – showcased best by the level of competition here and Best Limited Series. Once so niche that they were a single combined category at the Emmys, the fields seem to get stronger and stronger every year. As a result, the list of this season’s potential TV movie nominees is incredible. Leading the pack (for me) is Amazon Prime Video’s “Red, White & Royal Blue.”
An adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s New York Times bestselling novel, the film depicts the rivalry and courtship between Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), a prince of England’s royal family, and Alex (Taylor Zakar Perez), the son of an American presidential candidate.

CBS’s police procedural TV show Blue Bloods can’t be called anything short of iconic, considering its mass following, stellar performance on the network, and star-studded cast led by TV legend Tom Selleck. Despite all these factors, in December 2023, it was revealed that Season 14 would be the finale of Blue Bloods.
Both the show’s stars and fans have been actively trying to revert the decision ever since, but the network doesn’t give in. However, there’s still hope for Blue Bloods, as the most recent update from Paramount implied.

June 4, 2024 – Academy Award winner Sir Ben Kingsley, beloved James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan and Star Wars universe luminary Mark Hamill form the ultimate vocal rogues’ gallery in Mofac Animation’s upcoming The King of Kings, an animated family film inspired by a little-known short story by Charles Dickens depicting the life and times of Jesus Christ.
Kingsley voices High Priest Caiaphas, who presided over the Sanhedrin trial of Jesus. Hamill takes on the role of King Herod, who, according to the Gospel of Matthew, ordered the Massacre of the Innocents in an attempt to kill Jesus as an infant. And Brosnan gives animated life to Pontius Pilate, who ultimately ordered the crucifixion of Jesus. Henry Cavill’s biggest flop of the year surprised director Matthew Vaughn in ways he did not expect. The filmmaker, who also helmed the successful Kingsman franchise, thought the 2024 spy thriller film would be a nice feel-good show for everyone, but what happened was the complete opposite.
Henry Cavill in Argylle / Universal Pictures
Argylle was peppered with harsh criticism from fans and reviewers. Over the past years, there has been an oversaturation of espionage-themed movies in the market, but the root cause of its failure was the early negative reviews that discouraged fans from giving it a chance.
Matthew Vaughn Addressed The Failure Of Argylle
During an interview with Empire, director Matthew Vaughn confessed he initially had a great feeling about Argylle.
We had done test screenings that had gone fantastically well. The premiere was a really fun night, and it was like going back to the ‘Snatch’ days where there was such excitement.

The truth can hurt, especially when it reveals that you're wrong.
On When Calls the Heart, Season 11 Episode 9, Hope Valley was divided when Montague returned to place a bid on the resort, and Rosemary wrote an article detailing his return despite Lucas's warning not to.
Trusting the enemy is complicated when he's already burned you once.
Even though Lucas initiated contact with Montague, he was nervous that he was coming to Hope Valley.
He knew that his reception wouldn't go over well, especially since Bill and Rosemary were two of the first people to spot him.
Montague insisted they meet in person if they were discussing money. They reluctantly came to terms, but Henry insisted this would blow up in their faces.
Henry: Going into business with him is the wrong move.
Lucas: From where I sit, it’s the only move.

Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew López made his feature directorial debut with Prime Video‘s 2023 film Red, White & Royal Blue, the film adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s bestselling novel. The romantic comedy (which is getting a sequel!) follows the love story between Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the First Son of the United States, and Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine) of Britain. López spoke with TV Insider about bringing the beloved novel to life, finding the perfect Alex and Henry, navigating the movie’s most intimate moments, and why he sought to make a “classic rom-com” that’s “both very queer and very, very traditional.” Scroll down for our full Q&a. What were your conversations like with Casey as you discussed adapting the novel and what you were going to include and not include in the film? Why is it that I have only just realized that in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, the girls dealt with the sins of their mothers, but in Summer School, they’re facing off against someone who is assumed to be a mother? What I didn’t like about the first season was the fact that the girls didn’t do anything at all and had to face the consequences of something that happened even before they were born, making it all feel rather futile. With season 2, it could be a revenge tale; maybe “Blood Rose” is Angela, who never actually died all those years ago. I don’t know; I’m just weaving illogical theories because sometimes that’s what teen shows are like. Episode 4 gave us one important conclusion: Rose Waters is not Bloody Rose, because while Faran was being attacked by Bloody Rose, the girls were with Rose Waters.

When discussing the most despised characters in Warhammer 40k lore, names like Eidolon and Leandros often come up. Eidolon is known for his arrogance and continuous failures despite repeated chances for redemption.
Leandros, on the other hand, is infamous for his rigid adherence to the Codex Astartes, leading to frustrating outcomes for players in “Space Marine.” Yet, neither of these characters holds the dubious honor of being the most hated. So who is it?

Daisy Ridley stars as Trudy Ederle, the first woman to successfully swim the English Channel, in the inspiring, true story-based Young Woman And The Sea. Today, few know of Trudy Ederle and her accomplishments but this uplifting film may change that. At the time of her swim in 1926, it was said that women couldn’t swim the notoriously difficult, storm-tossed 21-mile stretch of water separating England and France, but the 19-year-old American swimmer, the daughter of German immigrant parents, proved them wrong – and bested the men’s record by more than 3 hours.

Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) has had many loves in her life. Over the years, Grey’s Anatomy has explored the character’s past and present partners. While her love story with Owen (Kevin McKidd) has always been a focal point of Teddy’s journey, fans have never quite forgotten Henry Burton (Scott Foley), whom Teddy married (and later fell in love with) in Season 7 so he could have health insurance. “It’s so interesting because I really feel like Teddy and Owen are the life partners, like ‘the one,’ right? But the relationship with Scott Foley’s character, Henry, was just absolutely incredible,” Raver told TV Insider as she looked back at Teddy’s relationships. “It was such an interesting moment because it really tells you a lot about Teddy. I mean, that was in a moment of, oh, he doesn’t have health insurance. I’m going to figure...

Leading Black British stars, writers and execs have become the latest to criticize the Labour Party for its controversial mishandling of a row involving the UK’s first ever Black female MP.
Diane Abbott’s return, or departure, from the party she has been an MP for since 1987 has dominated UK front pages over the past week and the likes of Lenny Henry, David Harewood and Afua Hirsch have now had their say.
In a damning open letter titled Loyalty Has Never Been Unconditional, the group of around 40 prominent Black figures said they are “appalled by the Labour Party’s treatment of Diane Abbott,” describing it as “disproportionate, undemocratic and vindictive.”

There was a time when Disney made ideal family movies that weren’t animated, or live action reboots of animated films. In fact, there was a time when Walt Disney would take on original live action true stories designed for the whole family to enjoy.
Now, thanks to the efforts of director Joachim Ronning and mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s clout and dedication, the studio has an echo of its past with Young Woman And The Sea, the true biopic and inspiring saga of Trudy Ederle.
In 1926, she became the first woman to swim the English Channel from France to England. Ederle’s remarkable achievement has nearly been forgotten and overlooked in the 100 years since it happened. But thanks to Glenn Stout’s 2009 book, Young Woman And The Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered The English Channel And Inspired The World, and A-List screenwriter Jeff Nathanson who discovered the book while rummaging through a bookstore one day and was convinced it would be a great film, the movie’s long journey to the screen is a successful one.
It still took years even for Bruckheimer to convince Disney to make it, and it is getting only a limited theatrical release before streaming. But hopefully, the inevitable word of mouth for this crowd-pleaser will make it more than limited. This is a big screen film that deserves to be seen with an audience, and not lost in the streaming larder. It also proves that they do make ’em like they used to, at least occasionally.
Basically following the linear story of Trudy (Olive Abercrombie plays the young Trudy), we see her early family life, and then her desire to make a difference for girls. The place she could do that was in the pool, an effort supported by her mother (Jeanette Hain), who knew from a previous ocean tragedy that learning to swim was important for her kids. That not only went for Trudy (Daisy Ridley), but also her older sister Meg (Tilda Cobham-Hervey), who would go on to become her sister’s biggest supporter, even on the boat that accompanied Trudy as she took on the English Channel.
Before that happened in 1926, Trudy would triumph and win a gold medal at the 1924 Paris Olympics. But taking on this task thought only possible for the male-dominated society of the time was something she became determined to do. It is no spoiler to say that indeed, on her second try, she did it even when it appeared she might be dead towards the end of the journey when she got lost in the darkness and separated from those keeping track of her. And in so doing this unheard-of feat, Trudy, who was partially deaf due to a childhood illness, beat previous male records by nearly two hours at 14 hours and 31 minutes (it held for 35 years), and this New York native got the largest victory parade ever in the history of the city. Ever.
But the crux of the story is seeing the perseverance it took to achieve this milestone, a belief that you never give up. Ridley simply embodies that spirit of this young woman (who eventually went deaf and died in 2003 at age 98) and delivers a memorable performance, including complete authenticity in her quest. Cobham-Hervey is excellent as well, and the parents are nicely played by Kim Bodnia as Henry, a dedicated German-born butcher and father who feared for his daughter, but then became a #1 fan, and especially by Hain, superb as the wise and determined mother, Gertrude, with a mind of her own and the will to do what is best for her family.
Stephen Graham is excellent and a lot of fun as the most unlikely of coaches, a man who, in 1911, became the second person to swim the Channel, and now is key to helping Trudy make history.
As you might expect with a Bruckheimer production, it looks magnificent, with excellent cinematography both above and below the waves (Oscar Faura was the Dp), production design from Nora Takacs Ekberg, and a sweeping score by Amelia Warner. Pulling all this off with so many water scenes could not have been easy, but Ronning, well-versed in water from Kon-Tiki and Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (which he did for Bruckheimer) was clearly the right choice for the job. It looks sensational.
Producers are Bruckheimer, Nathanson, and Chad Oman.

It's Friday the 13th for the liars in their pretty little universe, and things are already looking unlucky for the girls in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School Season 1 Episode 5.
Summer is officially underway, and the girls are now up against many threats, with Bloody Rose picking her way through the group with her tests.
It's safe to say that Pretty Little Liars: Summer School sets very different stakes for the girls after the previous season's events, and things may be more complicated than they seem.
Right off the bat, this Spooky Spaghetti trend seems to be getting out of hand, with forum visitors partaking in some truly messed-up viral challenges.
If you're reading this review, you likely already know what that challenge was, but it bears repeating. Slicing into the middle of the forehead. That has to be illegal in multiple ways.

“They don’t make ‘em like this anymore,” we wistfully say these days when praising skillful mainstream movies, ones that remind us of a past when Hollywood used to stir us more regularly through moving original films.
There is truth in that overused nostalgic acclaim, even though few movies actually deserve it as much as Joachim Rønning’s (“Kon-Tiki”) classically glorious “Young Woman and The Sea,” a defiantly big-screen, consistently enthralling biopic that both earns one’s genuine tears, and inspires everyone of all ages to dream a little bigger, go a little further.
For the film’s wondrous rebel Trudy Ederle, who became the first woman to swim across the treacherous 21-mile English Channel in 1926, that big dream at first wasn’t even becoming a legitimate athlete, let alone a history-making pioneer. Born to German immigrant parents of modest means in the Coney Island of 1905, Trudy just wanted to swim,...

Gertrude Ederle loved the water. “To me, the sea is like a person — like a child I’ve known a long time,” she once said. “ I never feel alone when I’m out there.”
That comfort combined with a dogged sense of determination led the young German American swimmer (played here by Daisy Ridley) to defy odds and sexist naysayers. In 1926, Ederle swam the English Channel in 14 hours and 31 minutes, beating the previous world record, which was held by a man. Her accomplishment helped change perceptions about women in competitive sports. When Ederle returned to New York, the city feted her with a parade on a scale never seen before (or since). They cheered her homecoming and dubbed her the Queen of the Waves.
Like all trailblazers, Ederle’s story began with obstacles and hostility, many of which director Joachim Rønning accords appropriate levels of respect in Young Woman and the Sea.

Before landing his latest big role as He-Man in the live-action Masters of the Universe movie from Amazon MGM and Mattel, actor Nicholas Galitzine took on a slew of roles in projects that happened to come out pretty close together. If you’re wondering where you’ve seen him before, it may have been alongside Camila Cabello in Prime Video’s Cinderella (2021), as a different royal Prince Henry in the adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s Red White & Royal Blue (2023) with the streamer or even as Harry Styles-inspired Hayes Cambell of the boyband August Moon in his latest flick The Idea of You (2024) alongside Anne Hathaway.

When Calls the Heart continues to bring drama to Hope Valley.
Spoilers for When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 9 hint that most of the residents are displeased to see Montague return to their town.
That feeling may increase once Rosemary's article gets published, making Lucas public enemy number two.
A few weeks ago, Chris McNally hinted that one of his decisions would put him at odds with Rosemary and Lee, and this must be part of it.
After Montague tried to steal their land and water in Season 10, no one trusted him, especially Bill, since Montague stole his land and conned Madeline and Jamie.
Things are bound to get complicated because Bill and Rosemary have invested so much time trying to protect Lucas from Montague, who they believe tried to kill him.

Exclusive: It’s A Sin star Callum Scott Howells has been tapped to play flamboyant and rebellious aristocrat Henry Paget in indie film Madfabulous, which is due to shoot this summer.
The Mad As Birds (Poms) production will be directed by Celyn Jones (The Almond And The Seahorse) and will chart the true story of the fifth Marquess of Anglesey who in the late 19th Century eschewed societal protocols of class and gender with his theatrical expressions and lavish social life, spending a multi-million pound fortune before his untimely death aged 29.
The British peer, dubbed “the dancing marquess”, was known for wearing voluminous robes, cross-dressing and his fluid sexuality and gender identity, all of which contributed to him becoming the black sheep of his aristocratic family.
Filming is due to get underway on the island of Anglesey, North Wales in August.
Script comes from Anglesey-born Lisa Baker in her feature film debut.

It's our sad duty to report devastating news about a talented young actress best known for her work on one of TV's most beloved shows.
When Calls the Heart fans will recognize 19-year-old Mamie Laverock from her role as Rosaleen Sullivan on the Hallmark series.
Sadly, it was revealed today that Laverock is currently on life support after suffering a near-fatal fall.
According to a GoFundMe page created by her family, Laverock's recent troubles began on May 11 when she suffered an unspecified "medical emergency."
Her mother, Nicole Compton, “was able to get there in time to save her life."
The actress was transported to a nearby hospital in Vancouver, where she showed “signs of improvement.”
When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 8 Review: Brother's Keeper
But just as the family was beginning to feel optimistic about Mamie's chances for a full recovery, another tragedy struck.

Sometimes, we crave another chance, while we run away from it other times.
On When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 8, Tom Thornton attempted to make amends to those from whom J.B. Sweeney had conned money, and Joseph and Jacob Canfield settled a 20-year-long grudge.
Rosemary and Bill also met with Clayton Pike to clarify his name.
Even though the NYC police arrested J.B. Sweened and recovered the money that Ned wired them, Tom could still be charged as an accessory to fraud unless he paid back the money he owed Benson Hills and Jameson.
Tom was willing to take responsibility, but everyone stood behind, most of all Nathan and Elizabeth.
They formulated a plan to host their own choir festival with neighboring towns and collect donations.
Everyone was on board. The problem was Rosemary was so excited that she spilled the beans to Mayor Hickman, who wanted Tom arrested immediately.

Released 35 years back in 1989, Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade became a cult classic movie in the long-standing franchise. Exploring emotional themes of the complex father-son relationships, epic action sequences, and the iconic good vs. evil narrative where the protagonist fights against the Nazis, the movie became a fan-favorite watch worldwide.

While Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade have several important aspects attributing to the success of the film, one iconic moment from the movie that became a beloved piece of cinematic history was apparently improvised. The scene took place between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery, where the latter ad-libbed a line, which was so hilarious that Steven Spielberg chose to keep it in the final cut.

When Calls the Heart focuses on second chances, which Sunday's episode centers around.
Spoilers for When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 8 hint that Tom returns to Hope Valley, anxious to make amends and still showcase the choir's talent.
Two other new arrivals showed up in Hope Valley, also hoping to clear the air and get a second chance. This should be a heartwarming episode.
After Tom learned in When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 7 that J.B. Sweeney cheated residents out of their money and skipped town, he was determined to make things right.
That won't be easy since the Hope Valley residents are bound to feel cheated out of their money and disappointed that they won't get to sing in the festival, especially Allie and Angela, who were extremely excited to be scouted.
Nathan and Elizabeth agree to help him host a choir festival right there in Hope Valley.
