As the entertainment industry absorbs the shockwaves of Kim Godwin’s abrupt resignation as president of ABC News, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have voiced their reactions to their former boss’s exit. Reflecting on Their Departures T.J. Holmes recollected his departure from ABC, stating, I have had a really great run here. His remarks echoed sentiments shared by an ABC News spokesperson, who had earlier commented, After several productive conversations with Amy Robach and T.J. Former Good Morning America and GMA3 stars Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes decided to discuss a topic on their podcast that resulted in a warning.
The couple, removed from GMA3 in late 2022 and then terminated from ABC News in early 2023, has since moved on to podcasting at iHeartRadio.
While they have featured multiple discussions about their relationship after losing their jobs due to scandalous headlines, they also tackle some controversies or headlines they see.
In a recent episode, they discussed headlines about their former colleague, weatherman Rob Marciano, losing his job at ABC News.
More recently, they talked about another individual from ABC News losing their job.
“When we put our jackets on to walk out the door to come to the studio to record this episode of the podcast, Robach and I received a warning that we should not record this episode,” Holmes said, adding, “So welcome everybody, to this episode.

Internal Tensions and Leadership Anxieties at ABC News Amidst growing concerns and a visible frustration among the staff, the atmosphere within ABC News has been one of uncertainty and distress. According to an anonymous staffer, There’s an element of fear in the air unlike anything I’ve seen in two decades working at ABC News. This comment underscores the depth of the ongoing issues related to leadership and morale within the network. The Review Under Debra O’Connell’s Oversight Recent changes have brought Debra O’Connell into a more pronounced role, overseeing ABC News. This shift came about after Kim Godwin announced she

Kim Godwin hoped to build ABC News’ future by cutting out some of its past.
Tasked, ostensibly, with shaking up a culture of the Disney-backed news organization that pit anchors against one another and led to claims of intolerable behavior behind the scenes, Godwin was supposed to revamp a storied journalism hub without losing any of the impetus that spurred employees to make shows such as “World News Tonight” and “Good Morning America” the most-watched in their category.
But the ABC News president, who was still working Monday after sending out a letter Sunday announcing her retirement following a shaky three-year reign, lost the support of much of the news operation by installing an array of senior executives who proved difficult to work with, while ousting veterans who had the respect of their colleagues. She also moved slowly, often taking weeks to make important decisions about programming and personnel, according...

Just 14 months after Kim Godwin was put in charge at ABC News, she is now exiting the network. Earlier this year, Disney’s Dana Walden reorganized the division and made Deb OConnell President of News Groups and Networks, effectively putting her over Godwin as a manager.
OConnell was brought in after Godwin’s handling of an affair between “GMA3” hosts Tj Holmes and Amy Robach. She left them on air, and more and more stories about Holmes’ alleged affairs were reported on in other publications. This led to an internal investigation at ABC, which resulted in both hosts leaving the company.
However, the situation is regarded as one reason GMA’s ratings took a big dip.
But that doesn’t seem to be Godwin’s only issue. According to reports, it was implied that the ABC newsroom saw OConnell as their actual leader and was happy to have Godwin manage.

ABC News president Kim Godwin is out at the network.
Debra OConnell, president, News Group and Networks at Disney Entertainment, and Godwin shared the news in internal memos sent to staff Sunday night.
Godwin told staff that after reflecting on her tenure, “I have decided to retire from broadcast journalism.”
“Anyone who’s passionate about what we do knows there’s no other business like it, so this was not an easy or quick decision,” Godwin continued. “But after considerable reflection, I’m certain it’s the right one for me as I look to the future and prioritize what’s most important for me and my family.”
In her memo, OConnell said that she would lead ABC News in the interim.

Updated, with additional details: After weeks of speculation, Kim Godwin is leaving her post as president of ABC News.
Debra OConnell, who added ABC News to her portfolio in February, will run the department in the interim. She made the announcement internally, with Godwin also addressing her staff. You can read the memos below.
At the time of OConnell’s February promotion when ABC News was put under her purview, Disney countered speculation about Godwin’s future by revealing that she had extended her contract to continue as ABC News president. But she was now reporting to OConnell, adding an additional layer between her and Dana Walden, the co-chairman of Disney Entertainment.
The exit follows CNN reports last week about frustration among ABC News staffers about Godwin’s management style that had been reportedly articulated to OConnell in her review of the division and its leadership.

ABC News President Kim Godwin is departing the network, just three months after Debra OConnell was appointed to oversee ABC News operations and evaluate Goodwin’s performance.
Godwin stepped down on Sunday night, announcing her departure in an email to staffers which read, “I have decided to retire from broadcast journalism.”

“I leave with my head held high and wish the entire team continued success,” Godwin added in her memo to staff.
No successor has been named as Godwin’s replacement at this time. The Wall Street Journal first reported the news on Sunday.

Kim Godwin, the ABC News president who was the first Black woman to run a broadcast network news operation, is leaving the Disney unit amid increasing concern about the way she was managing the home of shows like “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight.”
Godwin told staffers in a memo Sunday that she planned to “retire from broadcast journalism.” Her command had come under increasing scrutiny since a restructuring of ABC News and Disney’s ABC stations had her reporting directly to Debra OConnell, a Disney business veteran who is seen as a valued operator at the company. OConnell will lead ABC News for the foreseeable future, she told employees Sunday evening.
A Disney spokesperson declined to make executives available for additional comment or to respond to a query about what changes Godwin’s exit might mean for the executive’s immediate direct reports or the management of individual ABC News programs.

Dr. Jennifer Ashton is leaving ABC News.
The GMA3 co-host and ABC chief medical correspondent will depart the network in June when her contract ends.
Ashton says she made the decision to leave so that she could build out her new women’s wellness company, Ajenda, which she will lead as founder and CEO. The company — which launched with a newsletter in March — is focused on addressing the challenges of menopause health and weight management.
“I kind of subscribe to the fact that when the universe sends you a message, you should listen to it,” Ashton tells The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “I’ve been watching and participating in the steadily building upswell of interest of those two areas in our country and in our society and in our culture and media and in medicine and in science.

Disney is continuing to bet on Tamron Hall.
The entertainment giant says that it has renewed Hall’s eponymous daytime talk show for a sixth season, with both ABC’s local TV stations and ABC stations owned by Hearst, Scripps, Nexstar, Tegna, Gray and Amg on board.
Hall, a former anchor for MSNBC and NBC’s Today show, left the company in 2017 and launched her talk show in 2019. The show has had success at Disney (the company notes that it is the second-longest running talk show it has produced), and last scored a renewal in 2021, when it nabbed a two-season pickup.
“Tamron and team are a singular force in daytime because the show gets to the core of humanity through meaningful connection and thoughtful conversations whether covering the most-talked-about issues of the day or interviewing the newsmakers shaping our world,” said ABC News president Kim Godwin in a statement. “We...

The announcement was made shortly after Disney announced that Debra OConnell was being elevated to a newly created role as president, News Group and Networks, Disney Entertainment, adding ABC News to her purview that includes the ABC Owned Television Stations and P&l responsibilities across the Disney multiplatform linear entertainment networks. Another major media company is merging its news division and its local stations in hopes of wringing new profits from two businesses that are being hurt by the rise of streaming video.
Disney will place the veteran executive Debra OConnell atop a new division that encompasses ABC News and its local station operations, with ABC News President Kim Godwin and Stations President Chad Matthews reporting to her. The pair discussed their relationship and subsequent departure from ABC on the first episode of their new iHeartMedia podcast, called Amy & T.J.

Ultimately, ABC parted ways with Robach and Holmes in January of this year, with a spokesperson saying that “we all agreed it’s best for everyone that they move on.”

Former "Good Morning America" co-anchors T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach were both married to other people - Robach to actor Andrew Shue and Holmes to attorney Marilee Fiebig - when, on Nov. 30, 2022, photos emerged of the pair enjoying what appeared to be a romantic weekend in upstate New York. This led to their rumored relationship going public and the pair were soon taken off their morning show for good following the revelation.

Former TV news anchors Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes are going to tell their story — as well as discuss the news of the day — in a new podcast from iHeartMedia.
In January, ABC News publicly parted ways with Robach and Holmes, who had co-anchored the “GMA3” block of “Good Morning America,” after the revelation of their off-camera affair. While the couple had not violated any company policy, ABC News felt their relationship had become “an internal and external disruption,” ABC News president Kim Godwin told staffers in a call in December 2022.
Now the duo are teaming with iHeartMedia for a podcast titled “Amy & T.J.,” set to premiere Dec. 5 on the iHeartPodcast Network. It will be the first time Robach and Holmes will address their relationship in a public forum. In addition to hosting and executive producing their own podcast, Robach and Holmes will also collaborate on a slate of upcoming programming for iHeartPodcasts.

Neeraj Khemlani is stepping down as the president and co-head of CBS News and Stations.
In a memo to staffers on Sunday, Khemlani said that he had signed a first look deal with the network to develop documentaries, scripted series and books for Simon & Schuster.
“It’s an opportunity that will allow me to write, report and develop stories that I’ve long wanted to pursue,” he wrote.
George Cheeks, the president and CEO of CBS Entertainment Group, said that he will update staffers soon with information about new leadership and structure for the news division. That may come as soon as Monday, and there is some speculation that Wendy McMahon, who was named president and co-head of CBS News and Stations in 2021, will take on a new or expanded role. Khemlani and McMahon were named to their posts in a restructuring that combined two divisions of the company.

Less than a month after ABC News slashed the staffing at its FiveThirtyEight data-driven journalism brand, and saw founder Nate Silver announce his departure, the news division has found a new leader that will oversee FiveThirtyEight and all of ABC’s data journalism.
On Friday ABC News president Kim Godwin told staff that G. Elliott Morris will soon join the organization as its editorial director of data analytics.
“Elliott will lead our data journalism efforts for ABC News and FiveThirtyEight, including launching a full suite of poll-aggregation and election-forecasting models for U.S. elections to be used across broadcast, streaming and digital,” Godwin wrote. “Elliott and the FiveThirtyEight team will work closely with the politics unit and the decision desk to conduct original studies of polling data to deliver our audience information that goes beyond predicting voting choices to explore the intricate landscape of human emotions, motivations, and the fascinating...

Exclusive: ABC News is hiring The Economist’s G. Elliott Morris to be the editorial director of data analytics for the news division, a post that also oversees FiveThirtyEight.
Nate Silver, the founder of FiveThirtyEight, announced last month that he was leaving the network, amid a round of job cuts. Silver said that about 2/3 of the staff had been laid off.
Morris has been senior data journalist and U.S. correspondent for The Economist and was the lead developer of election forecasting models for U.S. and foreign elections.
In an interview with Deadline, Morris declined to address the staffing cuts, but suggested that there would be more integration of their work with the news division. He said that “we’re sort of restructuring how data journalism and FiveThirtyEight and ABC News works together.”

Gio Benitez is hoping to marry the two jobs he holds for ABC News.
As the Disney unit’s transportation correspondent, he has been close to the recent movement into private space travel. As a newly named co-anchor for the weekend edition of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” he will handle stories that draw out viewers’ emotions and attention. He will continue to handle both roles.
“I’m a space geek,” says Benitez, “and I get to still keep on doing it.”
“I’ll tell you what he’s pitching,” says Simone Swink, the executive producer of ABC’s A.M. flagship. “He wants to be the first civilian and journalist on whatever the first mission to Mars is. That will be our ongoing conversation for the next five years.”
“One thing I love to do is I love to examine the human condition, and there are so many ways...
