We’ve seen the Fantastic Four on the big screen several times over the last twenty years, but fans are hopeful that the next incarnation will finally get it right now that Marvel’s first family has come home. The new Fantastic Four movie will launch Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and director Matt Shakman teased the project while speaking with Collider.
“It’s different in so many ways,” Matt Shakman said. “I wish I could be specific. I wish I could say more. But we are doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from an approach to the filmmaking standpoint, that really fits the material. I wish I could say more. I would love to, but I can’t. But I think it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen before, and certainly unlike anything at Marvel that you’ve seen before.“
Now that the WGA strike has concluded,...

I’m not an insurance company executive. I don’t even play one on TV. But if I were – or a probate judge or some similarly situated professional – and someone came to me to tell me that a Marvel hero, say Reed Richards, had died, my initial reaction would be, “Reed Richards? It’s an even-numbered week. That mean’s it’s Ben Grimm’s turn to die.”
In 2015, forces beyond their control killed the Fantastic Four. No, not the cosmic forces behind the latest version of Secret Wars. That was just the story where the Ff died, not the forces that killed them. Said forces were higher ups at Marvel who decided if Fox wouldn’t give the film rights for the Fantastic Four back to Marvel Studios, then Marvel Comics shouldn’t publish a Fantastic Four comic and give free publicity to a competing studio’s movies. As a kid growing up in Chippawa, Ontario, James Cameron used to run to the drugstore every Friday after getting his allowance and blow it all on Mountain Dew and Marvel comic books. He’d then race home, tear through the new comics, and take out a notepad and try to create his own. “I would never re-draw panels,” Cameron tells Rolling Stone, “but I’d look at them and then do my own. That was always the process. Even at that time, I was trying to distinguish copying from original art.

Chris Evans' name has become synonymous with Captain America/Steve Rogers — the MCU superhero who is heroic from the word go. Forever humble and willing to do what it takes for the greater good, Steve Rogers was confident in his resolve to serve his country. He might not be a God or have the strength of Hulk, but his limitless drive to stand up for what's right has cemented his name as one of the most influential heroes we've seen on screen.

James Cameron’s Spider-Man. Kind of has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? Well, unlike the fictional James Cameron’s Aquaman–of which only a few fleeting seconds exist in the universe of the long-defunct HBO series Entourage–a Spider-Man movie written and directed by the legendary filmmaker almost came to pass in the early 1990s.
But like so many superhero and comics-based projects during that time–a relative Dark Ages for the genre–Cameron’s vision for the webslinging high school student never swung into theaters.
Almost all of it was down to legal issues surrounding the rights to Spider-Man, which kept him off the screen for years. But a glance through the “scriptment” that Cameron worked up–a detailed treatment outlining the story, characters, and even passages of dialogue–indicates that Cameron’s conception of the character and his mythos was very faithful in its own way.

Peter Parker is a rebel. He’s a high-swinging, hard-kicking, red and blue smartass who never keeps his mouth shut. Spider-Man may have grown up learning the lessons of his dear Aunt May and Uncle Ben, but outside of those ostensible parents, he never has time for anyone over 30. He was the superhero idol of his age in the 1960s: a wiseguy who taunted all the squares that tried to make him respect their authority. Yet whether it was his best mate’s father, Norman Osborn, or Otto Octavius and his ridiculous bowl cut, those stiffs learned just how few webs he had to give.
It feels worthwhile remembering this aspect of the character nowadays. After all, the most popular modern image of Spider-Man—Tom Holland’s affable spaz in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—has largely abandoned this fundamental element of the comic book character in favor of becoming the...

Up until now, it seemed as though Scarlett Johansson’s time with Marvel and its parent company Disney was over. After all, not many relationships, professional or otherwise, survive protracted litigation. Well apparently this one has!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scarlett Johansson has revealed that she has already resumed her working relationship with Disney. At the red carpet for a 35th annual American Cinematheque event honoring her career, Johansson spoke with the trade about what’s to come.
“I have had some of the best times of my career working for both of those studios,” she said. “I feel really excited that I get to continue my work with Disney and with my Marvel family.”
She also added that she was “already in the thick of it” on projects like Tower of Terror at Disney and “some other projects that we’re working on.”

The arrival of Disney+ series Hawkeye will have Marvel Cinematic Universe archer Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) dealing with the implications of his post-Snap international vigilante spree as Ronin, which made him enemies among the world’s conventional criminals. Yet, rather than hit up one (or all) of his super-powered Avengers contacts, he instead relies solely on the help of an upstart fangirl and would-be arrow-apprentice in Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld). This leads to a rather obvious question, which Marvel’s Kevin Feige now addresses.
Indeed, while we’ve been seeing Disney+ Marvel television shows entangle Avengers members in a variety of personal struggles, Hawkeye appears to have uniquely grounded stakes. This is especially clear when remembering that Barton, who helped save the universe from freaking Thanos and his intergalactic army in Avengers: Endgame, now finds himself in New York City during the Christmas season fending off neighborhood street toughs in matching red tracksuits,...

With Marvel Studios tackling the X-Men for the first time with the follow-up cartoon series to the 1990s version, it’s time we start talking about the return of comic-accurate costumes in live-action, yellow spandex, and all.
“It wasn’t like X-Men fans weren’t primed for those yellow spandex suits. Leading up to the movie’s debut, X-Men: The Animated Series was one of the most popular superheroes shows on TV, spawning an entire cinematic universe that included Spider-Man: The Animated Series, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, and The Silver Surfer. And yet, the movies practically pretended the show didn’t exist. That was kids’ stuff. This is serious.”

Fantastic Four No. 1: Panel by Panel
By Chip Kidd, Geoff Spear, Mark Evanier, and Tom Brevoort
Abrams ComicsArts, 240 pages, $40
The first title to usher in the Marvel Age of Comics has been previously annotated in other books, most notably one five years ago. But here, designer Chip Kidd does his usual in-depth look with incredible blow-ups of each panel of each page of the story that introduced us to Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Johnny Storm, and Benjamin J. Grimm.
The vast majority of the book is filled with these detailed looks, shot by Geoff Spear from a 1961 copy of the comic. It’s an interesting look, forcing you to examine things in extreme close-up, so much so that some panels lose detail in the spine.
It’s all too much and somewhat overwhelms you visually. And then, when we get to the meat of the book, Tom Brevoort’s analytical breakdown of the comic,...

Ever since Disney absorbed 20th Century Fox, fans have been waiting to see what Marvel would do with the X-Men and Fantastic Four. While Marvel Studios wasted little time in announcing a live action Fantastic Four movie, there has been thus far no official mention of mutants or X-Men related characters in the MCU. Not only that, there hasn’t really been much in the way of mutant activity across any of the screen projects being worked on. It seems that Marvel Studios wants to let the memories of the previous live action franchise fade a bit before properly introducing mutants back into the movies.
But that doesn’t mean they don’t have big plans for the folks at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. However, these plans have come in a most unexpected way. The first Marvel Studios X-Men project isn’t a movie, a live action TV series,...

The superheroes in Chloé Zhao’s “Eternals” are bound to each other by many things, starting with the interlocking rings and shafts and bolts of golden light that emanate from their very being. The light — a cosmic energy they share — is the piping that lines their uniforms, and it’s the shape-shifting weaponry they conjure to battle the Deviants. That filigreed network of light, floating and darting through the air, serves many purposes, and it’s the most tangible figment of Chloé Zhao’s artistry — her way of grabbing hold of the vast machinery of a $200 million comic-book franchise movie and turning it into something elegant and aesthetic, with visual effects that dance before your eyes.
The film presents the Eternals, who have spent 7,000 years saving life on Earth, as an organically unified army of noble warrior souls. Unlike, say, the X-Men, who are boldly demarcated in their powers,...

Kevin Feige now has his pick of ex-21st Century Fox mutants, but does anyone care to see those X-Men or Fantastic Four pitch up in Marvel’s cinematic multiverse?

Where is the glistening, 1,000gsm party invite that the likes of James McAvoy (Professor X Jr) and Michael Fassbender (young Magneto) could be forgiven for having expected to land on their doorsteps by now?

Superhero films have become mainstream of mainstream cinema, but their stand up to widespread success hasn’t always been smooth. Some of the superhero movies like Tim Burton’s Batman (1989), Superman: The Movie (1978), and The Incredible Hulk live-action series (1977-1982) proved superheroes had screen potential.

Elijah Wood knows a thing or two about big movie franchises. The actor has enjoyed a lengthy, illustrious career but will likely forever be known for portraying lead hobbit Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy.
So, as you might imagine, when Wood stopped by Entertainment Tonight to discuss his latest film, Ted Bundy story No Man of God, the saga of Middle-Earth came up. What’s more interesting, however, is that Wood was also up for discussing other big franchises he is interested in, including Star Wars, in which he has already provided his voice to the character of Jace Rucklin in Star Wars Resistance.
“I think that’s just inherently fun,” Wood said. “I haven’t had a chance to play in a giant sandbox in a while…Star Wars gets precedent because I’m a huge Star Wars fan. So more of that,...

Cannes – The first takeaway from the press conference for “Too Old To Die Young” at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival is poor Miles Teller. Sure, the “Whiplash” star hasn’t necessarily always been friendly to the press (thank you “Fantastic Four”), but he’s clearly been through the ringer as the star of Nicolas Winding Refn’s new Prime Video series. And, no, we’re not exaggerating for sarcastic effect either.

Given what happened in Avengers: Endgame, there’s now a ton of speculation on what comes next for the McU. As everything built up to the conclusion of the Infinity Saga and the last outing in Phase Three, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Kevin Feige and co. have been keeping quiet about what’s to come in the next few years. Sure, we know they’re working on new projects like The Eternals and sequels like Captain Marvel 2, but as of yet, there’s been no official reveal of the Phase Four slate.
One project that’s been heavily rumored though is a New Avengers movie, and a recent leak is once again telling us that Marvel’s indeed working on it and the film could be with us as soon as May 6th, 2022. Of course, given that this is an unverified leak, we advise taking it with a major grain of salt,...

Breaking: Comic book fans rejoice: the superhero scene could be getting even busier. Steven Paul’s Sp Media Group (Spmg) has entered into an agreement to acquire a majority interest in the Atlas Comics library, it was announced this morning in Cannes, with Paramount aboard for a first-look deal.
The Atlas Comics trove is owned by Nemesis Group Inc. and its principal Jason Goodman, grandson of publisher Martin Goodman, founder of Marvel Comics, which was later run by Martin’s cousin Stan Lee.
Spmg has signed a co-production and co-financing first look deal with Paramount Pictures to develop, produce and distribute superhero films based on the comic books. Ghost In The Shell and Ghost Rider producer Paul has also signed a deal with Oscar-winner and A-list scribe Akiva Goldsman – writer on I Am Legend, The Da Vinci Code and multiple Batman movies – and his Weed Road Pictures to oversee a...

We still don’t know what the full effects of “The Snap” are in the McU. There were three snaps in total, and there was Quantum Realm travel. At this point we know that through the events of the Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, there have been huge changes made to the McU, the biggest reveal so far is that it all led to introducing the multiverse.
If something like this could lead to the creation of alternate universes, could it have also led to the introduction of genetic mutation to the McU… you know… mutants? While talking to THR, Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely were asked if this is possible, and Markus said:
“Anything is possible, but I don’t whether you’d need that. Genetic mutation is genetic mutation. It just happens. Maybe they are already out there.”
That’s a fair answer. McFeely goes...

Now that Avengers: Endgame has had its time in the sun and brought more than 10 years of storylines in the McU to a close, what comes next? Well, with the ink finally drying on the Disney/Fox merger, the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four will soon be back at Marvel Studios, and what better way to move forward than to bring us new takes on fan favorites like Wolverine and the rest of the mutants?
Obviously, that’s something that Kevin Feige and his team have planned, but when, exactly, we’ll see the X-Men in the McU remains unclear. According to Endgame co-director Joe Russo, though, it could be some time. Speaking about which properties he’d like to tackle for Marvel next, the filmmaker expressed his love for Wolvie, before saying that the iconic hero needs “to be set aside for a little while” before he returns to our screens.

Earlier this year, the Disney/Fox deal finally came into effect, giving Marvel Studios a treasure chest of new comic book properties to play with. And while a lot of folks are understandably eager to see what Kevin Feige and his team do with the X-Men, just as many people are excited to see the Fantastic Four enter the McU. Including Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo.
Speaking in a recent interview, the filmmaker was asked about all the new properties that Marvel Studios recently acquired and admitted that he doesn’t know exactly what Feige has planned, but insisted that the Four are due for a movie – and not one that sucks, like all the others have.
“We don’t know what Kevin’s plans are. He’s been very specific about just ending the Infinity Saga,” Joe said. “But Fantastic Four needs a definitive movie at some point.”

With the Disney-Fox merger having completed back in March, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four came home to Marvel Studios just in time for Avengers: Endgame. Of course, though fans were crossing their fingers, none of these characters showed up for a sneaky last-minute cameo in the movie. However, this hasn’t stopped folks from theorizing that the events of the game-changing end to the Infinity Saga could explain how mutants are introduced into the McU.
The idea goes that the Snap – or Snaps, plural, as Thanos, Hulk and Iron Man have all used the Infinity Stones over Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame – could have caused some kind of global change that results in the awakening of mutantkind. But what do writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely think about this notion? Could the fans be onto something here?

Now that the X-Men and Fantastic Four are officially under the Marvel Studios umbrella, the door has been opened to limitless storytelling possibilities. Even with Avengers: Endgame now in the rear-view mirror, there are still so many places for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to travel.
But before anyone such as Thor, Black Panther or Captain Marvel can team up with any mutants – or said mutants receiving a Disney-released movie of their own, for that matter – we have X-Men: Dark Phoenix to deal with. All negative talk aside, I’m admittedly looking forward to that one because I’ll watch any flick having to do with this franchise.
Of course, once the X-Men do arrive in the McU, they’ll be recast and their movie series will likewise be rebooted. Still, that hasn’t stopped Nicholas Hoult, who’s been around since the days of First Class, from dreaming. Here...

With the Disney-Fox merger now complete, an exciting new era beckons for the X-Men on the big screen. While fans can’t wait to see what Kevin Feige and co. do with Professor X and his mutant charges, though, many are worried about how Deadpool will fare under the Mouse House’s guidance. After all, the gloriously irreverent movies starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth are definitely not the sort of thing you expect to come out of the studio.
However, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has cooled any worries that fans might be having by assuring us that he’s confident the character is in good hands. Many fans were stumped by who that teen with the face they couldn’t quite place was at Tony Stark’s funeral at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Everyone’s aware now, though, that this is Ty Simpkins, who turned up for the cameo to reprise his role as young Harley Keener from 2013’s Iron Man 3. The Russos have since explained that they felt they had to include the character as he’s an important part of Tony’s McU journey. Though they did admit that they panicked over whether people would recognize him.
But is this the last we’ve seen of Simpkins in the franchise? Some have theorized – us here at We Got This Covered included – that Harley might be a good fit for an McU version of Iron Lad, Tony’s teenaged counterpart who leads the Young Avengers in the comics. IGN recently caught up with...

In the past, I've made it quite clear here on this site that Marvel's Fantastic Four are my favorite superhero team. When Marvel Studio got the rights back to Fantastic Four, a lot of fans started talking about how much they would want to see John Krasinski in the role Reed Richards a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic.
While it’s still way too early to tell what Marvel is looking to do with these characters, it looks like Marvel Comics wouldn’t mind seeing Krasinki being cast in the role as well. They just changed up the design of the character for Marvel's War of the Realms #3 and as you can see, he looks a lot like The Office and A Quiet Place actor.
The redesign of the character comes from artist Russell Dauterman. Can you see the resemblance it has to Krasinski?
One day Reed Richards will join the McU with the rest of the Fantastic Four and I can’t wait to see when and how that happens and who will ultimately play him.

After the twin smashes of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Anthony and Joe Russo deserve a break. From their Marvel debut Captain America: The Winter Soldier onwards, they’ve certainly stamped their mark on the McU and, after leaving things set up for an interesting Phase 4, announced that their work here is done.
But perhaps they’re not finished with the McU for good. In a new interview with Business Insider, the duo said that they’re not ruling anything out, and that there’s a certain adamantium infused Canadian they’d love to have a shot at.
In reference to the recent stories about them leaving the McU for good, Anthony Russo said:
“We love Marvel, we have the most amazing working relationship with them, and we’re very close with them. Maybe there will be an idea that will come up in the future, but there is none now.

Disney’s Big Fox Release Changes: ‘Ad Astra’ and ‘Avatar’ Sequels Pushed, ‘Deadpool’ Not on Calendar
Ever since the Disney-Fox merger earlier this year, the industry has been waiting to see how Walt Disney Motion Pictures would balance its original feature films with all of the new movies it acquired from 20th Century Fox. The answer has finally arrived in the form of a massive calendar update from Disney. The studio has now dated, rescheduled, or removed over a dozen major Fox releases.
The biggest shuffle is for James Cameron’s long-awaited “Avatar” sequels. Disney has announced the first sequel is being pushed back an entire year, from December 20, 2020 to December 17, 2021. The additional sequels will be released as followed: “Avatar 3” in December 2023, “Avatar 4” in December 2025, and “Avatar 5” in December 2027.

One of the most talked about (read: argued online about) aspects of Avengers: Endgame has to be the film’s introduction of time travel. Though the concept was teased in both Doctor Strange and Ant-Man and the Wasp, Endgame’s entire second act finds Earth’s Mightiest Heroes going back throughout their own history in order to collect the Infinity Stones from set points in time. In the process, Loki escapes with the Tesseract, Captain America returns to the 1940s, and multiple timelines seem to branch off in order to set up future films and TV series.
Time travel may be a newer component of the McU, but it’s long been a stereotypical comic book trope. Both heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe trek back through the past and into the future so often that it’s barely impressive anymore. In fact, one of the Avengers’ most notorious villains hinges on the feat.

This feature contains Major spoilers for the ending of Avengers: Endgame.
When it comes to comic book movies, Captain America: The First Avenger was far from Chris Evans’ first rodeo. Having previously appeared in films like the Fantastic Four movies, The Losers, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and Push, he may have played more comic characters than any other actor working today. And yet, his turn as Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is unquestionably his best work.
But to look back on his eight years in the part is to ask not what Captain America has done for the actor, but what Chris Evans has done for the character. Marvel Studios essentially embarked on its initial...

It’s official! Disney has bought Fox, meaning that the X-Men and Fantastic Four will likely be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe before long. While some fans are worried about what might happen with the current X-Universe, as it’s being called, it’s fair to say that just about everyone is pleased that Marvel’s First Family are returning home.
Fox has had three attempts in the past to nail a Fantastic Four movie, but have fluffed it every time. While there’s not much to defend in 2015’s effort, 2005’s outing and 2007’s Rise of the Silver Surfer did have some redeeming qualities. Sure, they were dumb and corny, but they did introduce Marvel fans to Chris Evans, who later swapped Human Torch for Captain America.
But could the McU pair Evans up with one of his old Ff cast members? That’s what Michael Chiklis is hoping for.

Sure, they were dumb and corny, but they did introduce Marvel fans to Chris Evans, who later swapped Human Torch for Captain America.
But could the McU pair Evans up with one of his old Ff cast members? That’s what Michael Chiklis is hoping for.

A few months ago, Stan Lee actually predicted that we would see Marvel get the rights back X-Men and Fantastic Four. During the Wizard World convention in Nashville, Lee had this to say:
"Sooner or later, they're going to get the rights back to all our characters. They're working on it, and they're still making X-Men movies and stuff. Don't worry about it. You'll get more Marvel superheroes than you'll have time to look at in the next few years."
Things seemed to move pretty fast after that statement and all of a sudden it's a done deal! In case you're wondering what Stan Lee thinks about Marvel getting all these properties back, he told Newsarama:
"A truly great piece of news! Now characters such as the X-Men and the Fantastic Four can come home to the place where they belong. It’s vitally important to have the Marvel characters under one roof.
