Jason Statham And Cillian Murphy: Why Was The Former Chosen In Peaky Blinders? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Almost everyone who watched Peaky Blinders fell in love with Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of Thomas Shelby, finding it hard to imagine anyone else in the role. However, did you know that Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight initially wanted Jason Statham to play Thomas Shelby instead of Cillian Murphy?
Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight met both Cillian Murphy and Jason Statham in Los Angeles to discuss the role of Thomas Shelby. Initially, Knight opted for Jason Statham, explaining to Esquire that one of the reasons was because, physically, Statham commanded the room. In contrast, Murphy, when met in person, did not immediately embody the character of Thomas Shelby. Knight admitted to Esquire that he was initially too short-sighted to see beyond this. However, a last-minute text message from Murphy provided the clarification Knight needed,...

Every genre veteran would agree that modern horror movies can beat even the scariest classics of the 20th century. Indeed, since 2000 we saw so many worth-watching horrors it’s hard to rank them. Luckily, Reddit has recently done it for us one more time.
Here are 7 of the best modern horror films, most voiced by Redditors.
7. The Ring (2002)
Everyone remembers that female ghost with long black hair coming out of the TV. Yes, it comes from this cultish horror that can still rob you of sleep with its “disturbing tape, eerie vibe and the silent atmosphere”, as voiced by @TheHeavenlyStar.
6. Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Next is a movie that blends horror, comedy and science fiction elements and does it perfectly. The story of college students who fall victim to a bunch of monsters in a remote cabin in the forest is full of unpredictable twists and creepy jumpscares.

Post-apocalyptic stories have always held a special place in the hearts of film enthusiasts. There is just something about seeing what would happen if a zombie apocalypse was somehow going to become a reality. After all, these films can be pretty helpful in giving notes on how to survive. Cillian Murphy’s 28 Days Later is one such post-apocalyptic horror film that received positive reviews from critics.

Released in 2002, 28 Days Later follows the story of Cillian Murphy’s Jim, who gets caught in the middle of an outbreak of a highly contagious and rage-inducing virus that puts society in a vulnerable state. While the film ended more or less on a good note for Jim, it had 3 alternate endings planned and filmed where things did not end well for the character.

Cillian Murphy has had a career full of hits. Although he is finally getting the respect that he deserves decades into his career, he has been acting on some of the most iconic projects in recent years. From working on other Christopher Nolan hits to leading the beloved Peaky Blinders, he has certainly explored various characters over the years and gained a lot of acclaim for it.
Cillian Murphy in 28 Days Later I 20th Century Fox
It would seem that he had been starring in masterpieces ever since the very beginning of his career. In his 2002 film, 28 Days Later, he played the role of Jim, a child who wakes up from a coma, only to realize that his entire reality has shifted.
There is one very important death in the movie that becomes a defining moment, proving just how good it is.

Oscar winner Cillian Murphy is returning to the world of Peaky Blinders, saying in a statement: “This is one for the fans.”
Netflix has greenlit a movie based on the beloved series that stars Murphy as Thomas Shelby, the war hero turned gangster who works his way up in the world of crime in 1900s Birmingham. While the film is described as a “continuation” of the series, plot details are being kept under wraps.
Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight penned the screenplay. Tom Harper, who directed episodes in the series’ first season, is set to direct the film.
Knight will co-produce alongside Caryn Mandabach, Murphy and Guy Heeley. It will be made in association with BBC Film.
Said Murphy, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me… It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders.”

If you have Hulu (or Disney Star in Canada), you might have noticed that Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later is no longer available. Indeed, Disney lost the rights to the independently financed original film, with them now only owning the rights to the Searchlight-financed sequel, 28 Weeks Later. That’s why you can’t find it on streaming sites and why the Blu-ray Disc is out of print. Sony now owns the rights to the film, with it being part of the package they acquired when they bought the rights to finance the upcoming Danny Boyle/ Alex Garland sequel, 28 Years Later. So, presumably, Sony will be reissuing the film in the near future, and there’s a chance that when they do, it’ll look much better than it ever did before. But why?

Like many of you reading this, I have a soft spot for Robert Rodriguez’s Mexico trilogy. The three films centred around a guitar-playing mariachi who becomes a killer after a case of mistaken identity. The three films put Rodriguez on the map as one of the most exciting directors of his generation, and the story of how he turned a $7000 action movie made for Mexican home video into a worldwide smash is legendary (as he documented himself in the classic book “Rebel Without a Crew”).
Now, Rodriguez’s loose trilogy, which consists of El Mariachi, Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico, are coming to Arrow Video in a special features-laden box set which includes commentaries, new interviews, deleted scenes and more. However, the catch is that of the three films, only Desperado is getting a 4K disc.
Why?

The face of British science fiction for decades has been The Doctor: an ancient Time Lord, a grumpy, sarcastic, lonely traveler with an extravagant taste in clothing.
He travels alone in a spaceship that looks like a 1960s police box from the outside, and only occasionally takes along ordinary people who become heroes next to him.
And it's time to choose the best incarnation of the Doctor, let's go!
5. The Thirteenth Doctor – Jodie Whittaker
The 13th series of Doctor Who turned out to be almost the most problematic in the show's history. Even before it started, fans were divided into two camps – those who supported the creators' decision to make the Doctor a woman, and those who did not.
The changes affected not only the gender of the main character, but also the plot, as well as the Doctor's companions, of which there were three. Despite all the controversy surrounding the Thirteenth Doctor,...

In the derelict, scraggly city in northwest China where Guan Hu’s Black Dog is set, human life has all but disappeared and canines have replaced their masters. The year is 2008, a few weeks before the kick-off to the Beijing Summer Olympics, but the capital feels so distant in time and space that when a mural honoring the event pops up, the paint is so sun-bleached you’d be forgiven for thinking the Games were over by a few decades. Oil was tucked deep under the nearby hills until the reserves dried up and workers left––one of many migration waves that turned this unnamed corner at the edge of the Gobi Desert into an arid ghost town presided by the pets its former residents left behind. Dogs are everywhere you look; from the barren expanses that ring the city down to its maze of abandoned buildings, they roam this...

Fans of the 2002 film 28 Days Later and its follow-up 28 Weeks Later have been waiting seventeen years for another entry in the franchise, hoping we’d someday see a movie called 28 Months Later. We’re not getting that one, but 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland are currently working on reviving the franchise, and they’re going to make this revival worth the wait. Not only are we getting a new movie called 28 Years Later, but we’re actually getting a whole trilogy of sequels! Sony has reported that the film is set for a June 20th, 2025 release date. The film began shooting in late May around the Northeast of England. But what else do we know about this 28 Years Later sequel trilogy.

Forget the "Walking Dead" comics or the first "Resident Evil" film; it was "28 Days Later" that made zombies cool again in the 21st century. Easily the best zombie movie that technically isn't a zombie movie, director Danny Boyle's sci-fi horror thriller takes place in a nightmare world where society has collapsed following the outbreak of a lab-born, zombie-esque infection dubbed the "rage virus." Many of the film's leads would go on to become far bigger names after its release, including a baby-faced Cillian Murphy as the poor Joe Schmo (or whatever the British equivalent is of that) who awakens from a coma to find London abandoned and overrun with red-eyed, rampaging infected individuals.

Henry Cavill passed on the iconic role of Superman to David Corenswet as part of the new reboot under James Gunn with Superman: Legacy slated to be the first film of the new universe. In the months that have followed since the announcement, a first look, release date, and various new details regarding the plot have surfaced that might just give an edge to the new flick.

Since we first learned of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's plans for 28 Years Later back in January, news on the movie — the first in a proposed sequel trilogy to Brit zombie horror duology 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later — and the franchise's future has come thick and fast. Last month alone, we shared that Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes have joined 28 Years Later's cast, and that Candyman director Nia DaCosta is in talks to helm the second part of the new trilogy. And now we know at last that newly-minted Oppenheimer Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, who was already aboard as an executive producer, will be making a return in front of the camera too.
In an interview with Deadline, Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman was asked directly whether Murphy — who starred in Boyle's first film as bike courier-turned-Rage virus survivor Jim — would be back for 28 Years Later.

We got word earlier this year that 28 Days Later director (Danny Boyle) and writer (Alex Garland) are teaming up for a series of sequels to the 2002 horror hit, and following the recent news that Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes have signed on to play the lead roles, it's been confirmed that Cillian Murphy will return for 28 Years Later.
There was speculation that Murphy, who won the Best Actor Academy Award for his performance in Oppenheimer, might be set to reprise the role of Jim from the original movie when he signed on as an executive producer, and Sony has now made it official.
"Yes, but in a surprising way and in a way that grows, let me put it that way," Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman told Deadline when asked if Murphy would return. "This is Danny [Boyle] at his best, combined with a very commercial genre,...

28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland are finally reuniting to make a sequel to their zombie movie classic. As we reporter earlier this year, this sequel is set up at Sony, is going to be called 28 Years Later – and it may even launch a whole trilogy of 28 Days Later sequels. Last year, 28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy said he’d gladly be in a sequel if it was made by Boyle and Garland, and when this project was announced, it was confirmed that Murphy is on board as an executive producer… but as months have gone by and Boyle has assembled the cast, it’s remained unclear whether or not Murphy will actually appear in the movie. Now Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman has told Deadline that Murphy is back for 28 Years Later, but he’s coming back in “a surprising way.

Before "Oppenheimer" fever swept the globe, what was actor Cillian Murphy's best and most recognizable role? Some would point to the ever-popular "Peaky Blinders" and his delightfully Brummie performance as Tommy Shelby. Anyone who offered up his casting as a space-faring physicist in Danny Boyle's "Sunshine" or even his villainous turn in Wes Craven's "Red Eye" would earn my eternal respect. But for many of us, the quintessential zombie flick "28 Days Later" best showed off what Murphy had to offer back in 2002. With plans already in motion for a return visit to that post-apocalyptic world in the sequel "28 Years Later," we've waited with bated breath to see if Murphy himself would reprise his role.
That wait is now over. The talented actor is officially coming back for "28 Years Later," as confirmed by Sony Motion Pictures Group head honcho Tom Rothman in an interview with Deadline.

Cillian Murphy has been confirmed to return for 28 Years Later by Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman.
Speaking to Deadline, the movie executive said Murphy would be back for the first film in the zombie franchise’s new trilogy and vaguely teased the actor would be involved “in a surprising way and in a way that grows.”
Rothman also praised the film as director Danny Boyle “at his best, combined with a very commercial genre, like we had with Edgar Wright and Baby Driver.”
Further addressing 28 Years Later, Rothman emphasized the movie is “not in any way a literal sequel.”
Earlier this year, Murphy was similarly opaque about his potential role in 28 Years Later during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, simply saying, “Watch this space.”

Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are reteaming for the long-awaited 28 Years Later horror sequel trilogy, with Cillian Murphy on board as executive producer. But will Murphy, who of course starred in 28 Days Later, be reprising his role? It sounds like the answer is a big Yes.
Speaking with Deadline this week, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman was flat out asked if Cillian Murphy will be back to star, and his answer suggests that is indeed the plan.
“Yes,” Rothman answered, “but in a surprising way and in a way that grows, let me put it that way.”
He continued, speaking more generally about 28 Years Later, “This is Danny at his best, combined with a very commercial genre, like we had with Edgar Wright and Baby Driver. Sometimes when you put a real signature director into a commercial arena, it elevates it.”

Fans of 28 Days Later are eating well after the announcement that Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are reuniting to work on a continuation of their popular zombie film. We’ve been keeping track of what’s happening with the new movie in our 28 Years Later: Everything We Know article. The biggest revelation so far is the news that the upcoming sequel will actually be a trilogy of films. Both Garland and Boyle confirmed their collaboration. Garland said, “A few years ago an idea materialized in my head for what would be really 28 Years Later. Danny always liked the idea.“ Boyle added, “So we’re talking about it quite seriously, quite diligently. If he doesn’t want to direct it himself I’ll be well up for it if we can execute a similarly good idea.“
Deadline is now reporting that Jack O’Connell will be joining the cast of the trilogy.

A dark reimagining of the classic Robin Hood folktale is imminent, and Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer are set to star.
Titled The Death of Robin Hood, the new interpretation will see “the title character grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, a battleworn loner who finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation,” per Deadline. The film will be written and directed by Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski.
“It has been an incredible opportunity to reinvent and freshly innovate the story we all know of Robin Hood,” Sarnoski said in a statement. “Securing the perfect cast to transform the script to screen was essential. I could not be more thrilled and trusting in Hugh and Jodie to bring this story to life in a powerful and meaningful way.” Production...

A lot has been recently said about Danny Boyle’s upcoming series of sequels for 2002’s post-apocalyptic horror 28 Days Later, but not much has been revealed about Cillian Murphy’s role in them — until now.
The actor who initially starred in the original movie, to many fans’ biggest delight, will be back not only as an executive producer, but also as an actor. The hitch here is that now his role will be pretty much different.
According to Hollywood’s insider Jeff Sneider, Murphy won’t be returning in the first movie, but will nonetheless have a big cameo in the second one and an even bigger role in the third one.
The news hasn’t been confirmed officially and so far neither Boyle himself nor the movies’ writer Alex Garland (who’s probably busy coping with all the raving success of his latest movie Civil War) have said...

Filming on 28 Years Later looks set to start in May, and it sounds as if they’re going to need some very athletic extras.
Things are moving really rather quickly on Danny Boyle’s new film, the belated third entry in the saga that began with 28 Days Later.
The new film – 28 Years Later – is kicking off a fresh trilogy of movies, with Boyle directing the first and Nia DaCosta already confirmed for whatever the second/fourth film in the series turns out to be called.
Alex Garland has returned to pen the screenplay, and casting news on 28 Years Later has been moving ahead. The luring back of Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy was a rather good place to start.
Sony Pictures has picked up the distribution for the trilogy – costing in the region of $75m a film – and it looks as if work it going to begin pretty sharpish.

Cillian Murphy will be returning for the new 28 Years Later trilogy of films – but, and look away if you don’t want to know, his involvement isn’t straightforward.
Ever since it was revealed back in February that we’d be getting another film in the 28 Days Later series, the good news tap hasn’t turned off.
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are back to reprise their creative partnership of director and writer. Cillian Murphy – the star of the original film – publicly declared that he was making himself ‘available’ and if all of that wasn’t good enough, we then heard that no less than Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes would lead the cast for the new film.
Now, thanks to a report from Jeff Sneider (via World Of Reel), we’ve got an insight regarding Cillian Murphy’s involvement.

Cillian Murphy as Dr J. Robert Oppenheimer
Even though Danny Boyle and Alex Garland have put their project as one of the hottest upcoming films in Hollywood, fans are quite disappointed with Murphy’s absence in the first film. Aaron Taylor-Johnson has just been confirmed for another major role, but it’s not the one that you may think of.
The actor has signed up to star in 28 Years Later, an upcoming post-apocalyptic movie directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, whose most recent hit Civil War is now blowing all the theaters up.
Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer and Harry Potter’s Ralph Fiennes are also in. The plot details are still under wraps, but the film will surely have connections with the 2002 original horror 28 Days Later that starred Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris.
The original storyline revolves around bicycle courier Jim, portrayed by Murphy, who wakes up from coma amid a global pandemic caused by some aggression-inducing virus. In an attempt to survive, Jim will have to team up with a few lucky ones who haven’t turned into furious zombies yet.

Danny Boyle's lo-fi 2002 zombie apocalypse film "28 Days Later" caused a stir in the horror community for its grainy digital photography (shot by Anthony Dod Mantle) and for its introduction of "fast zombies" into the pop vernacular. The zombies in "28 Days Later" were, unlike most movie zombies seen up to that point, fast-moving and vicious rather than mindless and shambling. It is credited for breathing new life into the zombie genre, followed as it was by other zombie hits like the "Dawn of the Dead" remake, George Romero's "Land of the Dead," and the hit 2010 series "The Walking Dead." "28 Days Later" also tapped into a lot of America's post-9/11 ennui, presenting hard-edged images of urban desolation. Everyone felt like the world had ended, and Boyle aesthetically agreed.
