He’s the consummate actor, writer, renaissance man. What on earth wouldn’t you like to learn Stephen Fry’s take on?
There’s so much you could ask Stephen Fry. Maybe something about his TV career, from A Bit of Fry and Laurie to Jeeves and Wooster to Blackadder to Qi. Perhaps his books – the novels, the memoirs, the classics, how to write poetry.
Maybe something about his illustrious film career, with Wilde the obvious highlight, but which also includes Chariots of Fire, Gosford Park, The Hobbit, Love and Friendship, and Spice World.

BBC has removed Russell Brand content from the network’s iPlayer and sound sites in light of the rape and sexual assault allegations against the comedian, after the network “assessed that [the content] now falls below public expectations,” according to a BBC spokesperson.
The network has yet to announce which programs were pulled, but the news division of the organization found that an episode of the game show “Qi” and an episode of Joe Wicks podcast, both of which featured Brand as a guest, were removed. Shortly after the original report was published, Channel 4, which heavily contributed to the report through its “Dispatches” program, pulled several episodes that featured Brand.
Additionally, YouTube has announced it has suspended advertisements to Brand’s content, no longer allowing Brand to make money from videos on its site. The tech company emphasized that Brand violated YouTube’s “Creator Responsibility policy.”

The BBC said Tuesday that it has removed programming featuring Russell Brand from its streaming services iPlayer and BBC Sounds, saying it has “assessed that it now falls below public expectations.”
The comedian faces accusations of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse, which he has denied. An investigation by The Times, Sunday Times and Channel 4 Dispatches this weekend unveiled sexual misconduct accusations from four women against Brand from between 2006 and 2013.
“The BBC does not ban or remove content when it is a matter of public record unless we have justification for doing so,” a BBC news report cited a representative for the U.K. public broadcaster as saying. “There is limited content featuring Russell Brand on iPlayer and Sounds. We’ve reviewed that content and made a considered decision to remove some of it, having assessed that it now falls below public expectations.”

Glowing floor panels, pulsing lights, futuristic furniture, people standing at consoles with a look of intense concentration on their faces as information is displayed across a gigantic viewscreen. It all brings to mind one question – are you watching the latest big budget space opera, or have switched on a mid-afternoon weekday quiz show?
It doesn’t matter whether you’re watching Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel or Warwick Davis’ Tenable, there is something about the current generation of game show sets that leaves you never quite certain if the presenter is going to ask you what Madonna’s biggest selling single was, or order you to go to Warp 5.
Of course, it wasn’t always this way. There was a time where game shows looked more like faded end-of-pier variety shows, with velvet curtains and palettes of drab oranges, browns and beige. The lighting was as flat and boring as possible,...

While some are calling Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty an easier (or more accessible) Soulsike game, even genre veterans will have a hard time overcoming some of the title’s toughest challenges. As is Soulslike tradition, Wo Long‘s biggest challenges can be found in its 20+ boss fights.
More than many other Soulslike titles in recent memory, Wo Long forces you to truly master and memorize the attack patterns of its various bosses. Even the slightest slip in timing can cause you to miss a parry and lose the fight. While all of Wo Long‘s bosses need to be “figured out,” a few of the game’s fights will push you to your absolute limits by either demanding perfection or simply annoying you in ways that will make you want to walk away from the game. A formal complaint has been made about the author, actor and comedian Stephen Fry over jokes he allegedly told at a cricketing dinner at Lord’s in London.
Marylebone Cricket Club’s president said that the complaint is “incorrect” and some attendees have claimed that Fry was misheard.
Fry, who is president of Marylebone Cricket Club, allegedly cracked a joke about women “shagging” and another that linked Muslims to terrorism.

Exclusive: Fremantle is planning to once again merge Britain’s Got Talent producer Thames with Talkback under a restructure that will be unveiled in the coming months.
Deadline understands plans are being drawn up to consolidate Fremantle’s UK entertainment labels, with the coming together of the two stalwart British production houses a strong possibility. The Apprentice producer Naked, which was merged with Fremantle stablemate Boundless in 2020, could also be brought within the newly-merged entity.
If rubberstamped, Deadline understands a label boss will be hired to oversee the new Talkback Thames shingle and a redundancy process will likely take place. We revealed late last month that Thames MD Amelia Brown is exiting after two decades to set up her own production company, while Naked MD Fatima Salaria is also departing shortly.

Stephen Fry has said that he wants to go on an expletive-filled rant on Gb News or TalkTV to poke holes in their “free speech” model.
The former Qi host argued that, while he thought free speech was “important”, it shouldn’t be the end goal.
“Do you know, what I’ve wanted to do is go on one of those – doesn’t Piers Morgan do something, is it Gb News he does, or one of those things?” he asked Dragons’ Den star Steven Bartlett on his podcast The Diary of a CEO.
Morgan currently hosts the series Piers Morgan Uncensored on the right-wing news channel TalkTV.
Fry continued: “I’ve sort of wanted to go on – now, you’ll have to hold your ears – and say, ‘Hello, how are you, you old c***? It’s f***ing great to see you, you c***y, c***y, c*** c***.’ And him to go,...

Finding out that the Qi elves got something wrong is as oddly satisfying as watching a waiter drop a tray of glasses. It doesn’t happen that often, but when it does, it’s a sight to behold.
Series T of Qi is currently airing, with Sandi Toksvig once again steering the ship of Quite Interesting facts and Alan Davies still on board as regular panellist.
Before we add too many of their fun facts to our bank of things to impress with at parties (or more likely make us look like insufferable know-it-alls), let’s remind ourselves of the times Qi got it wrong.
Flobbadob
Who knew harmless 1950s puppets Bill and Ben would end up the source of Qi controversy? In series B, Stephen Fry claimed the language these flowerpot men puppets spoke was called ‘Flobbadob’, named after the sound of the farts made by the creator’s brothers in their childhood baths.

Last month, Mock The Week was cancelled after 17 years on air. The satirical comedy was only one of a flurry of modern panel shows featuring teams of comedians, spawning from the format used in Have I Got News For You that emerged during the nineties and noughties. Taking cues from long-running Hignfy which hit TV screens in 1990, popular series such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks and the anarchic, absurd Shooting Stars were followed by the likes of Qi, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Would I Lie To You?, Celebrity Juice and, of course, Mock The Week. But with ratings plummeting and cancellations abounding, is it high time the genre called it a day?
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
These shows were initially a great way to finish off your evening after a long hard day at school or work, just like a late night chat show helps to wind our American friends down after the watershed.

Like the Doctor in the Tardis, the new presenter of University Challenge will know they have a hard act to follow, as Jeremy Paxman’s withering looks and razor-sharp question-mastery have become part of the show’s very identity. And, much like the new Doctor, when the BBC announced it would name University Challenge’s next host later this week, it prompted fierce speculation on social media.
So who could it be? While former Question Time and Newsnight presenters make some obvious choices, the new host will need to be someone with enough time in their schedule, and popular picks like Clive Myrie and Jeremy Vine are already busy with quiz shows Mastermind and Eggheads, respectively.
But that still leaves us with plenty of predictions. Fingers on buzzers! Here’s our starter for ten…

Whether palling up with Bridget Jones, undermining Alan Partridge or co-founding Smack the Pony, the comic actor has been making audiences laugh for three decades. What would you like to ask her?
You’ll best know Sally Phillips on film for her role as best mate Shazza in the Bridget Jones trilogy. (She originally auditioned for the lead role before stealing the show anyway.) And on telly as giggling Linton Travel Tavern receptionist Sophie in I’m Alan Partridge, struggling to contain herself while reporting back messages from Mr P Nesshead.
Also a familiar face on panel shows such as Qi; Would I Lie to You? (does Sally really play a game at her local swimming pool called I’ve Just Been in the Water With Trevor McDonald?) and Taskmaster.

British actor, awards compère and show host and Stephen Fry will front “21st Century Firsts,” a one-off 90-minute documentary special for U.K. broadcaster ITV.
In the show, produced by independent production outfit Spun Gold TV, Fry will take viewers through his top 21 ‘firsts’ of the 21st century, exploring an era before smart-phones, satellite navigation and selfies.
He will focus on the day-to-day the services which have transformed contemporary lives and which people now take for granted, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tinder, Uber, Airbnb and food delivery apps. The special will also highlight some of the breakthroughs in medicine, technology, sport and culture.

Wireless charging has gone from being available on select Android phones, to being adopted by the iPhone and other devices too, like cases for wireless earbuds. The appeal of wireless charging is easy to understand: instead of plugging in a cable, you can place your device on a stand or mat, and pick it up when its battery is full. And, unlike most parts of the tech industry, every company has settled on adopting the Qi standard, so one charger will work with all of your devices.

One of America’s biggest radio shows is the long-running NPR news quiz “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me,” the Peter Sagal-hosted fixture with a nationwide listenership across radio, streaming, and podcast. Guest panelists riff on the week’s news stories, be they headlines that were plastered across newspapers the world over or ones relegated to the “news of the weird” corner.
Despite that show’s continued success, it’s been decades since a TV panel show in the U.S. reached that same level of quality, viewership, or place in the public consciousness. Even if you’re not a regular listener, “Wait, Wait” still exists as a shortcut — along with “This American Life” — to a certain kind of public radio programming and the listenership that keeps it afloat.

Amid the cosy repeats and cranberry-stuffed cookery shows on TV over the next few weeks are a few gems. There’s no Sherlock or Charlie Brooker’s TV Wipe this year, but there are plenty of treats, not least the return of The League Of Gentlemen for a three-part anniversary series and Peter Capaldi’s last hurrah in the Tardis in the Doctor Who Christmas episode.

Over on Netflix, six new episodes of Black Mirror are coming to usher in the New Year, two days into which we welcome the return of Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton’s genius anthology Inside No. 9.

Friday’s royally themed The Great British Baking Show finale was more than just the ending of a season, it was truly the ending of a deliciously flaky era.
As previously reported, the iconic series — the current season of which already aired in its entirety in the United Kingdom — will look quite different from here on out: Only judge Paul Hollywood will travel with the show when it makes its move from the BBC to the UK’s Channel 4 next season. Judge Mary Berry and hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins will not continue with the series; Qi host...

Based on Stephen Fry’s novel The Hippopotamus, and brought to the silver screen by director John Jencks, the flavour and indelible, idiosyncratic tone of the author is imbued in this faithful adaptation – except in some regards, perhaps too much so. The narration within this endeavour is so prominent, it feels like reading a book, as though we’ve accidentally turned the audio description on. Roger Allam plays Ted Wallace, a formerly respected poet, who now masquerades as a journalist, really only in it for the free drinks at events he’s hired to cover. Often seen stumbling around, glass of whisky in hand, offering his opinions for free to anyone who dares listen, he is sacked from...
