Director cum producer Michael Bay has proven his star-studded worth in the entertainment industry one too many times, especially through the masterpieces he helmed for the multi-billionaire Transformers franchise. That said, the 59-year-old artist seemingly had no intention for his robotic saga to get a crossover with Dwayne Johnson’s $712 million worth G.I. Joe franchise.

Although it may seem surprising, this was Bay’s original decision regarding his franchise when this idea was proposed to him by Brian Robbins, the current CEO of Paramount, and was rightly so for a very understandable reason. However, Robbins seems to have eventually come out victorious over him, considering how a crossover movie between these two sagas is currently in the works.

Batman: The Animated Series was a truly one-of-a-kind show that received worldwide love and fame. The series writer Henry Gilroy was praised for his writing skills that helped create the 2-D version of Batman into a full-fledged character with depth and intensity.
At that time, the U.S. military was not looking good because of what happened in the Middle East. Wanting to change public opinion, Henry Gilroy helped develop a U.S. military-centric series that went on to become quite a fantastic take on the franchise of G.I. Joe.

After 2007’s Transformers became a huge box office hit, Hasbro would pull from another of their popular properties that also had a place in pop culture with an 80s cartoon — G.I. Joe. However, G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra would not do the kind of numbers that Transformers had brought in, and the style was surprisingly geared more towards the Michael Bay film with some sci-fi twists rather than a more straight-forward military combat movie with colorfully eccentric characters. The sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, would offer more of what many would come to expect from the property and had actually become more successful commercially (mostly thanks to Dwayne Johnson‘s star power).

For many older viewers, Jennifer Garner’s portrayal of Elektra holds a special place in their hearts, despite the flaws of her standalone movie. However, when Netflix produced Marvel shows, Elodie Yung won fans over with her portrayal of the youthful assassin and Daredevil’s love interest.
Now it’s confirmed that Garner will return as Elektra in the upcoming ‘Daredevil & Wolverine.’ With ‘Echo’ incorporating elements from the ‘Defenders’ storyline, fans are hopeful for Yung’s return as Elektra in the MCU. Yung herself acknowledged the constant inquiries about the role in an interview with toofab.
Oh my god, I would love that! My fans are like “Can you come back?” I’m like, ask Mr. Marvel. You have to ask Mr. Marvel… I would gladly replay this part, are you kidding? She’s so much fun!

For most of the older audiences, Jennifer Garner is the only live-action Elektra that they are emotionally tied to, no matter how bad her standalone movie was. But back when Netflix was making shows based on Marvel characters, Elodie Yung embodied the young assassin and Daredevil’s love interest and fans took quite a liking to her.
Now it’s been confirmed that Garner will reprise her role as Elektra in the upcoming ‘Daredevil & Wolverine,’ and since ‘Echo’ has canonized a good portion of the ‘Defenders’ saga plenty of fans have been hoping that Elodie Yung will make a return as Elektra in the MCU. In fact, Yung admitted as much herself, that she gets asked constantly about the role in her interview with toofab.

In the early 2000s, Amanda Bynes was the darling of teen comedies, starring alongside heartthrob Channing Tatum in the 2006 romantic comedy, She’s the Man. Yet, she has been out of the acting business for over a decade, which is difficult to believe. The Emma Stone-starring comedy flick Easy A, which came out in September 2010, was the She’s the Man star’s last acting role.
But in recent years, Bynes, 37, has been in the news more for her erratic behavior than her acting chops. Recently, fans have begun to express concern about her mental health after she announced a major career change.

Actor Marlon Wayans is known for his stand-up comedy and comedic roles in films such as White Chicks and the Scary Movie franchise. Though the actor has ventured into dramatic territory with films such as Requiem For A Dream he was mostly known for his comedic endeavors as he gained fame with his sitcom with brother Shawn Wayans, The Wayans Bros.
Wayans also starred in the 2009 action film G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. The Stephen Sommers directorial was an adaptation of the popular comics of the same name and starred Channing Tatum and Wayans in lead roles. Due to Wayans’ reputation as a comic actor, fans were reportedly concerned that the film would not be a serious adaptation of the action comics.

Hasbro introduced the world to G.I. Joe as a series of action figures in the '60s. Originally as 12-inch figures, the line was successful for the toy company. But when the line was relaunched in the early '80s as smaller-scale figures complete with accessories, such as vehicles and playsets, the whole enterprise really took off. It led to a series of Marvel Comics adaptations, animated shows, and yes, big-budget feature films.

What a difference a few days can make. Hollywood studios’ push to turn their streaming business profitable, the acceleration of cord-cutting, the writers and actors strikes, as well as a weak advertising market, have been at the forefront of investors’ minds all year. But just before the end of 2023, industry deal chatter has moved back into the spotlight with a vengeance, led by reports that Paramount Global parent National Amusements (Nai) could come into play.
The chatter, sparked by a Puck item, centers on whether Top Gun mogul David Ellison’s Skydance Media and private equity firm RedBird Capital are eyeing a run at Shari Redstone’s Nai and its controlling stake in Paramount Global, led by CEO Bob Bakish. A sale of Paramount, home to Paramount Studios, CBS, Showtime, MTV, Comedy Central, BET and Nickelodeon, could reshape the Hollywood landscape, as any ownership change may mean assets are reevaluated...

The first "eureka moment" in recorded history occurred when Archimedes, upon immersing himself in a bathtub, finally understood the concept of water displacement. It was not a discovery per se (the phenomenon had been there every time he went for a soak), but, for whatever reason, this time the light went on, and my man allegedly streaked nude through the streets of Syracuse proclaiming his discovery.
Since then, the term "eureka moment" has been used to describe everything from mind-blowing scientific revelations to unearthing a motherlode of gold — epochal occasions for the planet or an individual. Something so wild you're compelled to yell some nonsense like "Eureka!"
I would not consider, "Hey, let's put G.I. Joe and the Transformers in the same movie" to be anywhere in the atom-splitting ballpark of a "eureka moment." Especially when your studio owns the rights to both franchises, and, well, every kid who...

So, enough yapping, here are the ten highest-grossing films based on toys.
10. My Little Pony: The Movie (2017) Original Domestic Gross: $21,885,107
Adjusted Domestic Gross: $25,496,025
A dark force threatens Ponyville, and the Mane 6—Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity— embark on an unforgettable journey beyond Equestria where they meet new friends and exciting challenges on a quest to use the magic of friendship to save their home.
9. Mars Attacks! (1996) Original Domestic Gross: $37,771,017
Adjusted Domestic Gross: $78,056,645
Earth is invaded by Martians with unbeatable weapons and a cruel sense of humor.

Few actors are as skilled in making us hate their guts as Ray Stevenson. The late actor, who passed away at age 58, played some truly despicable bad guys in "Dexter," "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," and of course, "Rrr," where he effortlessly captured everything wrong with the British Empire while also teaching audiences about the value of a bullet.
Stevenson found his way into the big two comic book franchises, playing both DC Comics' vigilante avenger Frank Castle in "Punisher War Zone," and Thor's faithful warrior friend Volstagg in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also voiced Gar Saxon, one of the absolute worst Mandalorians ever, in both "Star Wars Rebels" and "The Clone Wars." Clan Saxon served House Vizsla, which caused endless pain and chaos to Mandalore during the war, and Stevenson's character was a commander in the Shadow Collective, a Sith order led by Darth Maul.

Not many actors could claim they had played multiple Marvel characters and Star Wars characters in addition to famous historical figures and the villain in one of the biggest Tollywood hits of all time, but Ray Stevenson was one of them. As first reported by Italian news outlets and later confirmed by The Wrap and Variety, the actor died today at the age of 58. Born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, Stevenson began acting in film and TV in the '90s. He would go on to become a bigger name thanks to his roles as Titus Pullo in the HBO series "Rome" and as Dagonet, one of Arthur's Knights of the Round Table, in Antoine Fuqua's 2004 period action-adventure movie "King Arthur."

For G.I. Joe fans of a certain age, Conrad S. Hauser, aka Duke, is the G.I. Joe. Among the first of Hasbro’s revamped mail-away action figures, the character was created in 1983 as a descendent of the original G.I. Joe dolls. He’s also frequently been situated as the lead G.I. Joe character in cartoon shows, comic books, and finally Hollywood action movies.
Which along with the profile of an actor like Channing Tatum is what makes the opening scenes of G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) so shocking. After leading the first film, 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Tatum’s square-jawed 1st Sgt. Duke begins the sequel as practically a second banana to newcomer Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson). Then at exactly the 20-minute mark, Duke is unceremoniously obliterated in a fiery explosion after being betrayed by no less than the President of the United States.

Just after a reported first quarter loss of $1.23 billion, Paramount has something to cheer this week. “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” ($19.99), released after its fifth weekend in theaters, is #1 on all VOD charts.
Reading the tea leaves that studios provide to figure out strategies is confusing. Paramount two weeks ago released “Scream VI” ($19.99) on both their own streaming platform and on PVOD. The much bigger-grossing horror film only reached #1 at Vudu, and at the end of its second week, only shows up on one of the three top ten lists.
As always, we are in the dark about the revenues a film ranked at #1 takes in. We do know that at a $19.99 price, Paramount recoups around $14/transaction. It appears they conceded much of that for “Scream VI,” hoping that it boosted the Paramount+ subscription interest. Again, this is mostly a mystery, though it is logical to assume its play...

In most versions of the classic 1831 Victor Hugo tale, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, the female protagonist is Esmeralda, a French Romani girl who is so beautiful that every major male character in the story either wants to marry her or seduce her. (She’s also only 16 in the novel—a book from over 200 years ago). For all her kindness and compassion, Esmeralda is basically treated terribly throughout the story and finally ends up hanged for a crime she didn’t commit, just as she reunites with her long-lost birth mother.

In Genesis, Joseph was given said garment by his father, much to the chagrin of his jealous brothers, who began to plot against him. Joseph was thrown into a pit, with one of his more benevolent brothers planning to rescue him later. He was eventually dragged out and sold into slavery. February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.
This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.
The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

How The Canceled Second Season Of G.I. Joe: Renegades Gave The G.I. Joe Movie Its Cliffhanger Ending
"G.I. Joe" hasn't endured the way its 1980s boys' toy franchise contemporaries "Transformers" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" have. Whenever one "Transformers" or "Tmnt" cartoon ends, a new one pops on the air in no time at all, whereas the most recent "Joe" cartoon, "Renegades," ended in 2011.
Of these three series, "G.I. Joe" is the one most tied to its era of origin. The 1980s were a more conservative and patriotic time in the United States. As new episodes of "A Real American Hero" aired every Saturday morning, the Cold War was reaching its anti-climax. "Transformers" and "Tmnt" have both proven capable of reinventing themselves "G.I. Joe" has its eccentricities (such as the rival ninjas Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow), but it's ultimately boxed into its military theme. "G.I. Joe" is basically "Team America: World Police" minus the comedy, and that's not as fashionable anymore.

“G.I. Joe is the codename for America’s daring, highly trained, special mission force.” So declares the voiceover in the theme song for G.I. Joe, the cartoon show that dominated after-school televisions in the 1980s. And by that criteria, Channing Tatum seems like the perfect choice to play Duke, leader of the Joes. Is he highly trained? Of course! Have you seen Step Up or Magic Mike? Is he daring? Anyone who caught his cameo in This is the End would give a resounding “yes”!
But the song also tells us that G.I. Joe “never gives up” and is “always there.” On that account, Tatum might fall a little bit short.
Recently, Tatum agreed to strap on a lie detector and answer questions for Vanity Fair. And to test the actor’s resolve, Vanity Fair went right for the tough questions: “You played Duke in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Come another Oscar season, and “G.I. Joe” is on everyone’s lips again.
Following Chris Rock’s quip at Jada Pinkett Smith’s “G.I. Jane” likeness (and Will Smith subsequently slapping him onstage at the Oscars), actual “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” star Channing Tatum reveals that even he did not want to partake in its sequel, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.”
During a Vanity Fair lie detector test video, Tatum talked about his time on the two films, starting with the 2009 “The Rise of Cobra.”
“The first [sequel] I passed on seven times, but they had an option on me, and I had to do the movie,” Tatum said. “So the second one, I obviously just didn’t want to do that one either.”
Tatum noted that he asked to be killed off within the first 10 minutes of the 2013 sequel, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.” Dwayne Johnson instead led the follow-up film as Roadblock.

Channing Tatum has once again made his disdain for the GI Joe film series abundantly clear.
The actor starred as elite soldier Duke in GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) and GI Joe: Retaliation (2013), the first and second instalments of the saga.
However, per Tatum’s request, his character was killed off in the first 10 minutes of the sequel.
On a new episode of Vanity Fair’s popular Lie Detector Test YouTube series, the 42-year-old actor confirmed “yes”, Duke’s death was his decision, and that “no” he did not regret it.
When asked “why not?”, Tatum explained that he was under a contractual obligation from Paramount Pictures: “The first one, I passed on seven times, but they had an option on me and I had to do the movie.
“So the second one, I obviously just didn’t wanna be in that one either,” he laughingly added.

Before Channing Tatum was able to show off his stripping skills in "Magic Mike," the actor was pushed into blockbuster filmmaking with "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra." Tatum starred in the film as one of the main characters from the Hasbro toy line, Duke. Despite leading in the first live-action "G.I. Joe" movie, Tatum has since expressed his distaste for the project. He even once told Howard Stern that he hated the movie, and we can't blame him. In fact, if it was up to Tatum, he would have never done the film. It was not for lack of trying, though.
After Michael Bay's "Transformers" impressed audiences, "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" was released in 2009 with less-than-optimal critical reception, and outside one entertaining chase scene, this fan did not particularly enjoy his time at the theater, either. The equally ill-fated sequel, "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," starring Dwayne Johnson,...

Actor Channing Tatum is ready to get into pottery making after stripping off onstage for his next movie. The actor, who is set to reprise his role as the titular character in ‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance’, is keen on stepping into the shoes of the late Patrick Swayze in a ‘Ghost’ remake.
The 42-year-old hunk revealed that he’s developing a reboot of the 1990 romantic film during an interview with Vanity Fair.
“Now I know why they put this in ‘Ghost’,” he said in the interview, which was conducted during a pottery lesson, reports aceshowbiz.com.
He added: “This whole process is very, very sexual.”
Tatum revealed during the chat that his production company Free Association, formally known as 33&Out, currently has the rights to ‘Ghost’. He said: “We actually have the rights. Yeah, we have the rights to ‘Ghost’.”

Channing Tatum has already gone on record saying he hated starring in 2009’s “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” so it’s not too surprising to hear the actor’s most recent revelation that he tried to avoid acting in the movie almost a dozen times. Participating in a lie detector test for Vanity Fair, Tatum said he tried passing on “The Rise of Cobra” seven times but was forced to star in the Paramount tentpole.
“The first one I passed on seven times, but they had an option on me and I had to do the movie,” Tatum said. “So the second one, I obviously just didn’t want to do that one either.”
Tatum confirmed he asked to be killed off in the first 10 minutes of the sequel, 2013’s “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” to avoid any further commitment to the franchise. Did he regret that decision? “No,” he said bluntly.

In 2015, the cast of Saturday Night Live crooned about Dwayne Johnson being “franchise Viagra” during the actor’s opening monologue. Seven years later, the 142.9 million global debut for Black Adam suggests that, in a time of transition for DC, Johnson is indeed the boost the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned comic brand needs.
Even if Black Adam won’t hit the 1 billion box office heights of Aquaman, and even if it doesn’t achieve the artistic triumphs of James Gunn and Matt Reeves’ DC ventures, Johnson gives DC the opportunity to expand its reach beyond its core fans. Not everyone knows Black Adam or the Justice Society, but they all know the Rock.
