“The Roast of Tom Brady” was the No. 1 most-streamed title of the May 6-12 viewing window, according to Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings. The special aired live on Netflix on May 5, indicating that all 1.7 billion minutes of viewership on the chart happened after the stream.
“Grey’s Anatomy” was the No. 2 title with 1.1 billion minutes watched. At No. 4 was “Evil” with 788 million minutes watched across both Netflix and Paramount+. Seasons 1 and 2 of the supernatural drama were added to Netflix on April 30, generating interest ahead of the Paramount+ release of Season 4 on May 23.

Netflix’s live roast of NFL great Tom Brady made it into the Nielsen streaming rankings for its premiere, despite only being available for a few hours of that week. After its first full week on the streamer, it rocketed to the top of the charts.
The Roast of Tom Brady gathered 1.67 billion minutes of viewing for the week of May 6-12, leading all streaming titles by a wide margin (the second-place finisher, Grey’s Anatomy, had 1.11 billion minutes of watch time for the week). The roast also had by far the biggest weekly viewing tally ever for a Netflix special; the previous high was 798 million minutes for Chris Rock’s stand-up special Selective Outrage in March 2023.
The 1.67 billion minutes of viewing for the roast in the United States translates to about 27.87 million hours, or about two thirds of Netflix’s reported worldwide total (42.2 million hours) for the special that week.

Blue Bloods fans are still heartbroken that CBS has canceled Tom Selleck’s long-running series. However, some recent news could give fans of the family drama and police procedural some hope. Could there possibly be a spinoff?
Donnie Wahlberg on Blue Bloods / YouTube CBS Parent Company Head Hints At Blue Bloods Spinoff
Could there possibly be a spinoff series of everyone’s favorite police drama Blue Bloods? According to a recent report by TV Line, it seems more likely. The television industry publication reported that on Tuesday, Brian Robbins, the Paramount Global co-ceo made a surprising announcement. This was at the annual stockholders meeting.
In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions, and Blue Bloods.
Robbins also added that “CBS hit Fire Country shows huge promise.” For over six months, there has been a rumbling about a spinoff of that series named Sheriff Country, starring Lorena Baccarin.

Netflix doesn’t license out its series and films to others, and now it is pumping the brakes on just how many films its licenses from others.
In the second half of 2023 (July 1-December 31), Netflix had 7,700 acquired films in its library, according to a MoffettNathanson dissection of the streamer’s latest data dump. Sounds like a lot, right? It is, until you consider that the tally is 20 percent lower than what the service had in the first six months of the year.
A quick note: “acquired” in this case refers to content licensed to Netflix, like its current number 1 film on the platform, “Godzilla Minus One” (pictured above), not movies it buys outright (like “Hit Man” from the Venice Film Festival) or produces for itself (like “Maestro”).
Before you accuse Netflix of being anti-movie, the platform also saw a double-digit decline (-10 percent) in its number of acquired series to...

The Netflix special roasting NFL great Tom Brady made it onto the streaming charts for the week it premiered — despite it only being up for a few hours of that week.
The Roast of Tom Brady racked up 279 million minutes for the week of April 29-May 5, good for 10th place among original series in Nielsen’s rankings. The special streamed live on May 5, meaning it tallied those viewing minutes in under 12 hours. (With a running time of almost three hours, the 279 million minutes equate to about 1.6 million complete runs of the special.)
Bluey moved back into the top overall spot with 1.18 billion minutes of viewing on Disney+, adding to its total as the most streamed title in the United States so far this year (21.73 billion minutes and counting). When The Big Bang Theory first aired, its target audience was about the same age as the main characters. Ten seasons passed, the fans of the show have matured along with the characters. The writers of Tbbt, Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, along with the CBS network, decided that the audience would watch the spin-off about Sheldon's childhood in Texas in the 1980s along with the main show. And the audience did watch.
In the last episode of Young Sheldon, the main character goes to Caltech. One of the teachers asks him if he is lost, to which Sheldon replies: "No. I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be." You could say the same thing about the end of the show.

8 Comedy Shows To Watch If You Loved Young Sheldon (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Though several TV series have featured intelligent children, not many have attained the same caliber as Young Sheldon. Young Sheldon, which debuted in 2017 on CBS, was a prequel to the hugely successful sitcom Big Bang Theory, focusing on the early years of Sheldon Cooper. It gave fans an explanation for why Sheldon evolved into the character he would play on Tbbt while also battling to maintain his continuity.
Even if the finale of Young Sheldon may have made many people nostalgic, there are still a lot of family comedy shows that have the same happy-go-lucky atmosphere. Nothing could quite take the place of Young Sheldon, but viewers will love these wholesome and endearing programs, from Modern Family to Atypical, which will take place in viewers’ hearts that The Big Bang Theory spin-off is leaving.

Throughout the years of its television run that ended just a couple of weeks ago, The Big Bang Theory’s prequel Young Sheldon has repeatedly proved to be somewhat ignorant of the original show’s storyline. Fans have constantly pointed out some insignificant or even quite big inconsistencies that Young Sheldon demonstrated with seemingly no notice from its creators.
Now that the prequel’s story is over and all the major plot holes got a pretty decent explanation in the finale, one particular detail from Sheldon’s life still seems like a mystery to be resolved. Luckily, The Big Bang Theory fans already did it.
In the original show, not so many details about Sheldon Cooper’s previous life in Texas emerge, though fans still caught some little pieces of information that would later add to everything we saw in Young Sheldon. The Big Bang Theory once stated that Sheldon...

Regular old CBS can still make new hits.
That’s the takeaway from Nielsen’s report on the 100 most-watched primetime broadcast and cable series of the 2023-24 season (via Variety), which lists the freshman drama series “Tracker” as TV’s top non-sports program. It’s the first time a new series has been the No. 1 show since “Survivor” in 2000, per CBS.
“Tracker” capitalized on its coveted post-Super Bowl series premiere slot and lack of new series competition in the midst of a strike-disrupted broadcast season, averaging 10.8 million total viewers per episode in Season 1 on the way to becoming the most-watched new series since “Desperate Housewives” in 2024-25. The series, which stars “This Is Us” veteran Justin Hartley as a survivalist who helps find missing persons, beat out second-place drama “NCIS” by more than a million viewers.
CBS also has the year’s top comedy series, the final season of “Young Sheldon.

TV audiences tracked down “Tracker” in a big way this season. The freshman CBS drama, which stars Justin Hartley as a survivalist who helps law enforcement and others solve tough cases, was the 2023-24 TV season’s most-watched entertainment series. According to the Eye network, that’s the first time a first-year TV series was ranked as the No. 1 show since “Survivor” premiered as an instant phenomenon in 2000.
“Tracker” was helped, of course, by premiering in February behind Super Bowl Lviii — giving it a huge jump start. And this was an unusual, truncated TV season due to the Hollywood strikes, which meant limited episodic orders for most programs. Last year’s top-rated show, Paramount Network’s “Yellowstone,” hasn’t aired an original episode in more than a year — and yet still made the charts, but via repeats that aired this season on CBS.

Today, Netflix released viewership data for the second half of 2023. The numbers shine a light on what worked, what flopped, and how Netflix may move forward in the future.
Sign Up $6.99+ / month netflix.com ‘One Piece’ to Rule Them All
The most-watched show on Netflix in the second half of 2023 was “One Piece.” The live-action remake of an anime classic racked up an incredible 71.6 million views and over 541 million hours. The easy conclusion is that Netflix should greenlight more live-action remakes of anime shows, right? Well, maybe not.
One of Netflix’s most high-profile flops was the live-action “Cowboy Bebop,” which hit the platform in November 2021. Although it hit the Netflix Top 10 list for three weeks, the show declined 59% in viewing hours from its second week to its third. Netflix canceled the show less than a month after its debut.
Netflix’s remake of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” was a hit this year.

Netflix, which for years had claimed that live sports did not factor into its business model, is now a major player in the field, recently snapping up Christmas NFL games. But before committing to established, conventional sports franchises like NFL football games and WWE Raw, the streamer tested the waters with stunt-y, made-for-tv sport events, starting with The Netflix Cup on Nov. 14, 2023.
According to Netflix’s second expansive viewership report released today, The Netflix Cup, a golf match featuring drivers and golfers from its docu series Formula 1: Drive to Survive and Full Swing, logged paltry 700,000 views in the second half of 2023.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, the spinoff of the recently concluded Young Sheldon, which was a spinoff of The Big Bang Theory, is an opportunity for producers to tell new stories involving Georgie Cooper (Montana Jordan) and his wife Mandy (Emily Osment), the older brother and sister-in-law of Sheldon Cooper now that his tales have been chronicled. TV Insider caught up with executive producer/head writer Steve Holland, Jordan, and Osment on the Paramount lot at a press event to kick off the new Fall TV season to preview the CBS sitcom, which will appear both familiar and new to viewers. “There wasn’t a grand plan behind it,” Holland tells us about why the characters of Georgie and Mandy were chosen to be spun off from Young Sheldon. He says the idea came about after the producers, including series creator Chuck Lorre, watched the two actors and saw their delightful chemistry.

Prior to his seven-year stint on "Star Trek: Voyager," Robert Picardo had a lengthy and storied acting career. He was a Joe Dante regular, appearing in "The Howling," "The Explorers," "Innerspace," "The 'Burbs," "Matinee," and "Gremlins 2: The New Batch." He appeared in "Star 80," Ridley Scott's "Legend," the zombie cop film "Dead Heat," and Robert Englund's directorial debut "976-evil." This was all mixed in with plentiful TV work and multiple appearances on stage. Picardo has never been not busy, most recently appearing on a 2024 episode of "Young Sheldon."

As one “Big Bang Theory” spin-off ended with the “Young Sheldon” series finale, CBS is gearing up to launch a new “Young Sheldon” spin-off centered on fan-favorites Georgie and Mandy.
“Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” turns its attention to new parents Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment) as they raise their young family. EP Steve Holland told TheWrap that the new show would occasionally feature members of the Cooper family audiences know and love from “Young Sheldon.”
“We love these actors and we love these characters, and they’re certainly a part of of Georgie and Mandy’s life, so it’s our hope that this is a spot where they can pop up from time to time and we can still tell their stories,” Holland told TheWrap.
With the pilot written but nothing filmed yet at the time of this interview, Holland confirmed “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” will also introduce new characters.

Allow me to offer you a peek into the TV-viewing habits of the Bojalad household. I was not a dedicated watcher of The Big Bang Theory, nor its prequel spinoff Young Sheldon. I am, however, a daily watcher of American quiz show institution Jeopardy!.
Since Jeopardy! airs at 7:30 p.m. Et on CBS in my particular TV market (it broadcasts on NBC or ABC in other parts of the country at varying times), sometimes I forget to change the channel and catch some of the 8 p.m. Et showing of Young Sheldon on Thursday nights. One of those “accidental Young Sheldon” nights just happened to occur on May 16, the date of the two-part series finale. That was the night I discovered that my wife, and pretty much the rest of the TV-viewing public, really, really loves Sheldon’s dad,...

The final episodes of Young Sheldon drew a big crowd for CBS.
The comedy ended its seven-season run Thursday night with 9.32 million viewers for its series finale, according to final same-day ratings from Nielsen (which don’t include streaming). That’s the biggest same-day audience for the show in four years — since its third season finale on April 30, 2020.
Young Sheldon ended with a pair of episodes, and the first drew almost as many viewers (9.15 million) at 8 p.m. Et/Pt as the 8:30 p.m. finale. The two episodes rank second and third in same-day viewers among all scripted series this season, behind only the post-Super Bowl premiere of Tracker. (Both episodes adjusted up from Nielsen’s preliminary figures, which had them at 8.82 million viewers for the 8 p.m. installment and 8.95 million for the finale.)

Young Sheldon went out with a bang. Or, should we say, a bazinga.
The Big Bang Theory prequel series wrapped things up on Thursday night, and the two-episode finale scored 8.95M viewers, according to live + same-day Nielsen data.
Not only was it the top broadcast of the night, it was also the most-watched episode of Young Sheldon in four years — since the Season 3 finale in April 2020. That episode managed 10.15M same-day viewers.
The finale audience is also pretty significantly above Season 7’s audience average, which is sitting right around 7M viewers per episode. Clearly, audiences were eager to see how things would end.
Streaming on Paramount+ was also up 39% over the week prior and 50% versus a year ago. It marked a season high for Young Sheldon, but Paramount didn’t give more specifics than that.
