The Vince Staples Show (2024)
Extremely derivative. Funny at times. You make the call
This is a tough review because there were aspects of the show I really enjoyed, and others I didn't. It's like it was trying too hard to be both funny and serious at the same time. Pick a lane in my opinion. Possibly it's building up to something but with the episodes available to me currently, I'm not super interested in another season.
I gave it a 5/10 because I do think it has potential. The funny bits were truly laugh out loud funny but it seemed like 30 seconds later we were tackling some serious social injustices and that's not what I signed up for.
It's trying very hard to be the live action version of The Boondocks but just not as funny (not even close).

We get it. You're an "artist"
Yes, let's all go out and buy HDTVs. Let's take it another step and upgrade to 4k and then 8k. Then let's have another director use some crappy filter to make us feel like we're watching something from that time period. Guess what? It didn't work.
Horrible script and lackluster acting from Anne Hathaway. Her character wasn't even slightly believable.
Frankly, none of it was believable. This is possibly the worst rating I've had to give.
Upon finishing the movie, nearly everything felt unfinished. I felt completely dissatisfied with nearly every aspect of the film and I wished I had a Time Machine.
Do yourself a favor and save yourself the time.

Background noise. Boring show
This is fine to have playing in the background while you're working or something but it's not very gripping or entertaining. I'm not much for reality TV but the premise had me intrigued. If this somehow lays the ground work for prisons to become better; I guess I'm for it.
As a source of entertainment it just wasn't for me and a 4/10 was me being generous.
I finished it just because I wanted to see where it was going but it truly wasn't an easy watch. I found myself bored with most of it (again I had it on while I was working so to be fair I wasn't paying super close attention to it).
My advice is if you find yourself still bored 2-3 episodes in just give up. It doesn't get any better.

I want my 5 hours back
The ending isn't even a twist. It's not so much a "whodunnit" as it is a "we don't introduce the killer until the last episode." Save yourself the time and skip this one.
The acting is stiff and it's tough to get through each episode. The only reason you keep watching is to try to solve the mystery...which is pointless because it's just dropped on you without a lot of meaningful exposition. Speaking of, most of the exposition is red herring type stuff meant to throw you off the track of figuring out who the real killer is, which again, you won't know until they tell you. I'm genuinely mad I spent my time on this series.

I wanted it to be over
I remembered really loving this show when it first came out. 20 or so years later I could barely finish it. I enjoyed the first 3 seasons but beyond that the same old shtick got really old really fast.
I hated the fact that they basically never lost in court, even in the most absurd of circumstances. It's definitely not realistic.
It's an enjoyable watch for the most part but even after 5 seasons the characters don't evolve and I got sick of seeing the exact same thing in every single episode. Despite everything I dislike about it I still gave it a 7/10 so I guess the good outweighs the bad.
The best part about the show is the relationship between Denny & Alan.
The worst part is its repetitive nature and tendency to remove characters I liked with no explanation and keeping characters I didn't like. Same judges every season, same stupid rigamarole.

Finally! Something that lives up to the hype!
I know it's only been 2 episodes and a 10/10 may be ambitious but I can't express how satisfied I am with this!
Recently, us nerds have had our hopes built up by reboots and live-action remakes that left us feeling betrayed and disappointed. Finally, X-Men 97 delivers!
I'm so happy they kept this kid friendly so my generation can enjoy it with our kids.
So far, the show is exactly like you remember it from your Saturday mornings. Nostalgia ensued within the first second.
I can't wait to see what this show brings us. My only complaint is that they didn't release the entire series immediately but I don't think Disney+ does that.
Thank you Chris Claremont! Well done Disney!

Can we just let a good thing die?
I loved this series from the very beginning but it's not standing the test of time for me. The show is heavily based on references that were either relevant in the earlier seasons and not now, or so old some younger viewers might now get it.
I wish this show, and many other animated series would just die with dignity.
Some of the new episodes are flat out unwatchable to me and I feel like I want my 22 minutes back. Comparatively, I feel the same way when I watch older episodes too so it's hard for me to rate. I ended up on 7/10 for the many years of solid laughs it provided but I'm ready for an ending.
At least it's not gotten as bad as Rick and Morty.

"Oh geeez, man." I 100% agree with the reviews that say seasons 1-3 are amazing and anything after that is a tough watch.
Don't get me wrong, there are some great episodes sprinkled into seasons 4-5, but they are too few and far between to make the show really worth sticking with.
Season 6 was tough. Season 7 was nearly impossible to finish and I don't feel confident about the series moving forward.
I wouldn't recommend keeping a subscription to pay for this show. Wait until all eps are free at this point, imo.
The show lost its heart and soul and in the words of Rick himself, "It's a joyless cash grab."
RIP Rick and Morty 😢.

Ignore the haters on this one
It's beautiful. The wardrobe, the scenery, the effects.
I rewatched the original in preparation for this. There are several scenes that are shot-for-shot from the original.
Overall I thought the casting was pretty good. I'm not gonna nitpick the ones I didn't care for because overall I felt the series was very much a success.
A lot of people are complaining that there's "not enough humor" but this isn't a cartoon. The stakes feel higher and therefore you don't have as much time to make light of the situation. FYI, there is a fair amount of humor; enough imo.
I'm excited to see where this journey takes us.
My advice is to ignore all of the low reviews and watch it with an open mind. It's just too quality of a show to skip out on cause you read some haters opinion.
This isn't your Cowboy Bebop or Ghost in the Shell live action remake.
Second best cartoon to film adaptation I've seen to date. Erased being the first.
Watch this!

Perfection!
I'm a huge Osama Tezuka fan. This was the perfect combination of Astroboy meets Metropolis, meets, Akira and Detective Conan!
The animation matches the era too (which is important to me).
I haven't been this emotional over an anime since Grave of the Fireflies, Fullmetal Alchemist, Saikano or Now, then here & there!
Each episode is compelling and it's extremely difficult to put down (even when you have to get up soon for work).
It's by far the best anime produced by Netflix and a must watch! It's a 10/10 for me.
I have cried at the end of many anime from the 80's & 90's but it has been a while since then. You will not regret the 8 hours you invest into this!
