People starting the movie Spaceman would be forgiven for thinking that their Netflix had glitched. Yes, we do see Adam Sandler’s character Jakub dressed in a space suit. But he’s not floating through the cosmos. He’s walking through a wooded stream, the greenery of the trees and bushes reflecting off his mask.
What the heck does this have to do with being a space man, one might ask? By the end of the movie, directed by Johan Renck and written by Colby Day (adapting the novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař), Spaceman answers all your questions. Or rather, Jakub’s new friend, an alien spider named Hanuš, explains everything in the gentle, dulcet tones of Paul Dano.
Spaceman‘s strange, but ultimately clear, approach may frustrate some viewers. It may excite others, leaving them wanting to watch more sci-fi movies with a surrealist approach. Regardless of...

After many years in development hell, a live-action adaptation of the Halo video game franchise finally made its way out into the world as a Paramount+ streaming series back in 2022, with the first episode of the show quickly becoming Paramount+’s most-watched premiere. But while the TV series is returning for a second season, which is scheduled to begin streaming on February 8th, the first season wasn’t met with overwhelming positivity, as many fans of the video game source material were disappointed by some of the choices made for the adaptation. Not even star Pablo Schreiber, who plays the character Master Chief on the show, was entirely happy with that first season. Speaking with SFX Magazine, Schreiber revealed there was even one element that he felt was a huge mistake: the romantic storyline with Master Chief and Makee (Charlie Murphy), which even included a sex scene.

"Sometimes events are beyond our control. And in those moments, we save what we can." Paramount+ has unveiled the full official trailer for Season 2 of the live-action Halo series on Paramount+. In Season 2, Master Chief John-117 leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant. As humanity's best hope for winning the war, John-117 discovers a deep connection to a mysterious alien structure with the key to humankind's salvation, or its destruction — the Halo. Paramount+’s two-minute official trailer for the sci-fi thriller Halo teases that when events spiral out of control, we save what we can. “Looking at your faces, I do not see defeat and I do not see surrender,” says Captain Jacob Keyes (Danny Sapani). Master Chief and the Spartans have heroes on their side, while the Covenant does not.
Pablo Schreiber (American Gods) returns to lead the video game-inspired series as Master Chief, Spartan-117, with Natascha McElhone (Californication) back as Dr. Halsey. Returning cast members include Jen Taylor, Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo), Shabana Azmi (Fire), Natasha Culzac (The Witcher), Olive Gray (Half Moon Investigations), and Yerin Ha (Reef Break). Also back for season two are Bentley Kalu (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Kate Kennedy (Catastrophe), Charlie Murphy (Peaky Blinders), Danny Sapani (Penny Dreadful), Fiona O’Shaughnessy (The Forgiven), and Tylan Bailey.

The "Halo" season 2 trailer has arrived, and it brings with it the return of Master Chief who is now facing a new, familiar threat to those who played the games: The Covenant. Indeed, this season will see the sword-wielding aliens wreaking havoc. It appears that the folks at Paramount+ spared no expense in crafting the second season of this show, but will that be enough to turn it into the series everyone hoped it would be in the first place?
This trailer is very moody and overflowing with gloomy action. It's got a "Starship Troopers" vibe to it at times, just without all of the vibrant color and blatant political commentary. We're also, once again, seeing Master Chief without his helmet off an awful lot. Love it or hate it, that element of the show remains in place. It's very cinematic and a lot of the visual effects look big-screen worthy.

Paramount+ revealed the official trailer for Halo‘s second season, which has Pablo Schreiber returning as Master Chief John-117 as he leads a team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant.
The new season has showrunner David Wiener (Brave New World) taking over for last season’s Steven Kane, who oversaw physical production on the first season in Budapest, and Kyle Killen, who supervised writing and production in the United States.
The new footage shows plenty of space action, though it appears a bit dim and murky (at least, in this trailer):
Wiener, Schreiber and newcast member Joseph Morgan had unveiled the first new footage for season two at Ccxp in São Paulo in December.

“Halo” Season 2 is almost here, and it looks like Master Chief has his work cut out for him.
Paramount+ announced Saturday that the second season of the video game-based series will premiere on Feb. 8, sharing a dramatic teaser trailer. Instrumental music scores a rousing speech as our heroes embark on a doomed mission.
“You deserve the truth,” the trailer’s rousing speech begins. “The enemy is at our gates. Their numbers are overwhelming. Any Marine who makes this stand with us will not survive the day.”
But, there’s a reason for that sacrifice: “For every moment we hold the enemy at bay, more innocent people can escape. When they do, they will go forth and tell the story that you write today. You will be remembered.”
The word “remembered” echoes over the rest of the trailer as we see more action, including human-alien physical combat.

The best moments of Merchant Ivory––a documentary directed by Stephen Soucy concerning the legendary production company––feel like their most-successful pictures: restrained and revealing at the same time. Mostly told chronologically and split into chapters with talking heads to drive the narrative, the film dutifully recounts the agony and ecstasy of Merchant Ivory Productions. Sections are devoted to producer Ismail Merchant, director James Ivory, writer Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, and composer Richard Robbins. Dedicated crew members and stars sing their praises while softly criticizing their methods of madness, most of the latter directed at Merchant. Highlights include recollections of Merchant’s culling together funds for each production, often starting a film before all the money was put together. Or Jhabvala’s brutal judgment: Ivory recalls her dislike of Maurice from pre-production onward, all because the novel wasn’t, in her opinion, up to snuff. Somewhat ironically, Maurice is perhaps the...

It looks like Bella (Natascha McElhone) doesn’t just have the right person as the architect for the hotel’s spa but also for herself in Season 2 of the 1920s drama. TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek of the October 22 episode of Hotel Portofino, and Bella and Marco (Giorgio Marchesi) definitely share a moment. Bella joins Marco as he’s working, and he asks if she’s made a decision about the building work. Not yet, so he’ll “carry on until you tell me otherwise.” He then comments on the “new arrival at the hotel”… her husband, Cecil (Mark Umbers), who had been in London. They’d been apart for nine months, which seems long to Marco, though he does say, “It’s none of my business.” Still, he can’t help but remark that she’s barely spoken of him. “Just as you’ve barely spoken of your wife,...

When the sumptuously filmed 1920s drama Hotel Portofino returns, the sunny skies of Italy’s Riviera mirror the mood of Bella Ainsworth (Natascha McElhone), proud owner of the upscale title hostelry. She’s promoted former nanny Constance (Louisa Binder) to assistant manager and befriended appealing architect Marco (Giorgio Marchesi), who’s building the hotel’s spa. But dark clouds hover, starting with the reappearance of Bella’s dodgy and unfaithful husband, Cecil (Mark Umbers). He’s been in London since he struck his wife in Season 1. “It’s forced her to confront a lot of things that have been bubbling below the surface and this is sort of the breakdown of their marital relationship, though it’s not easy for Bella,” says creator Matt Baker. “We’re introducing this season, the possibility of life and relationships for Bella after Cecil,” he adds, hinting at a “chaste” love interest for Bella.

I remember going to the movie theater in 1998 to see “The Truman Show” for the first time and being blown away. It was the scariest non-horror film I’d ever seen up to that point (and maybe still), showing us a world of utter consumerism and commodification and its horrific impact on a man who didn’t know he was born to literally be a reality show. It seemed inconceivable that something like what happens to Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) could really occur. This was, after all, the era before we started carrying around smartphones and mini computers in our pocket, before anything called Facebook and Twitter and Instagram and years before even MySpace came into being – and before we were all deputized as amateur filmmakers thanks to the still camera and video we keep with us and use to publish sometimes hourly.

25 years ago, The Truman Show star Jim Carrey proved to the world that he was somehow even more than just a generational comedic talent. Combined with the Oscar-nominated screenplay of Andrew Niccol and the direction of honorary Oscar winner Peter Weir, Carrey showcased his gifted dramatic chops by way of Truman Burbank, the unknowing star of the world’s most popular reality television show. On day 10,909 of his life’s 24/7 broadcast, Truman gradually begins to recognize that there’s something off about his seemingly idyllic existence on Seahaven Island, which, unbeknownst to him, is actually the world’s largest soundstage in Burbank.
Niccol originally wrote The Truman Show before his 1997 debut as writer-director of the cult hit, Gattaca, and so he considers both pieces to be companions in a way. After all, Truman is about a man’s discovery that the world around him is fictitious, while Gattaca is about...

With 21 wins under its belt, Netflix’s royal drama “The Crown” has always been an Emmys favorite. So much of the excitement around the show comes from its cast, which rotates every two seasons. Claire Foy and Matt Smith led the line as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in seasons one and two while Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin featured as Prince Charles and Princess Diana in seasons three and four. Now, in season five, the show is led by Imelda Staunton as the Queen, Dominic West as Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki as Diana.
Those stars are hoping to be the latest in a long line of “The Crown” actors nominated for their work on the show. So far, “The Crown” cast has received 17 acting nominations in total. That is an incredible number. Season one garnered two bids, season two reaped four nominations, season three received two bids, and...
