Many wouldn’t know, but Depp has always wanted to be a renowned musician. Embarking on fame in Tinseltown can be both exhilarating and perilous. But what if young actors could harness one specific piece of wisdom from the legendary Tom Cruise—who will be turning 62 next month—to steer their careers toward calmer, controversy-free waters?
Reaching the heights of fame at a tender age, Cruise’s career has been a masterclass in maintaining a clean public image in such a not-so-easy profession. With a track record free of public scandals, or infamous meltdowns, his journey offers a beacon for emerging talents. In fact, as evidenced by his candid insights in Vanity Fair, he expertly navigated the shark-infested waters of show business, avoiding the bloodsuckers and sticking to his job.

Back in 1990, soon after his divorce from Mimi Rogers, fans found the perfect ship as the next best power couple in Hollywood: Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. A pair like one made in heaven, these two lovebirds were seen together almost everywhere and fans couldn’t help but swoon looking at them being so in love with each other.
But then something went wrong, and this ship crashed.

While that came as a devastating blow to his fans, friends, and family, it seems that Cruise was even more heartbroken by how the course of events had turned out for him and his now ex-wife back in the day.
In fact, if anything, the heart-rending way he responded to questions about their split during interviews perfectly sums up the love and utter respect he had for Kidman in his heart.

Tom Cruise didn’t just jump up and down on a couch as an overeager romantic. The otherwise calm and composed Cruise often blurted out his love for his partner on public platforms in the 2000s. The actor might be single now, but there was a time when he was associated with some of the top actresses. After his divorce from Nicole Kidman, Cruise was involved in a romantic relationship with Penélope Cruz.

Cruise and Cruz met on the sets of the 2001 film Vanilla Sky and hit it off right away. This was before the time he entered into another very public relationship and marriage with Katie Holmes. One old interview proves that Cruise was madly in love with The Last Samurai actress at the time.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has added another cast member to her upcoming take on The Bride of Frankenstein, and it's someone she knows very well.
In a new piece on the Spider-Man: Far From Home and Roadhouse star, THR reports that Jake Gyllenhaal has joined the cast of The Bride!, but don't reveal any details on his character.
Gyllenhaal (Maggie) recently took to Instagram to share the first ever production stills from the film, giving us a glimpse of Christian Bale as Frankenstein's Monster, and Jessie Buckley as the misunderstood creature's titular Bride.
We first heard about this project back in 2022 when it was being developed for Netflix, but a follow-up report indicated that the film had been shelved shortly after the Hollywood strikes got underway, and was being shopped elsewhere. More recently, we'd learn that Warner Bros. had acquired The Bride!, which is now set for a theatrical release on October 3rd,...

If there are franchises that have played a significant role in promoting strong female characters, then, Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean has played a crucial role in showcasing such characters. These characters have broken away from traditional gender roles, and brought a unique development to the film, by complementing the male characters of the film, which made the series much more layered and engaging.

Anne Hathaway built a strong portfolio in Hollywood with her leading roles in almost all genres. Like any other actor, Hathaway had her fair share of insecurities as an actress. Her fears peaked right after filming Love & Other Drugs, co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal. However, they lasted only for two weeks as she got the call for the film One Day. Hathaway shared that her worry came with the territory of being an actor, where a lot of things were beyond her control.

Ben Stiller’s Zoolander is an infinitely quotable cult classic among comedy aficionadoes, and a sequel should have been easier to pull off than turning left. Still, the film failed epically, creating a reckoning for Stiller. Speaking with David Duchovny on the actor’s Fail Better podcast, Stiller says he was “blindsided” by the box office bombing of Zoolander 2 after thinking it would surprise fans more than David Bowie’s cameo in the original film.

Mary Shelley's genre novel landmark Frankenstein is one source material that, like Sherlock Holmes, Dracula or Garfield, filmmakers just can't somehow stay away from. Perhaps it's because the story of a man and his creation offers so many potential thematic choices. Or because actors just love playing the stitched-up result of the doctor's work. In this case, we have writer/director Maggie Gyllenhaal offering up the first looks at Christian Bale as the creature and Jessie Buckley as his chosen Bride. Check out Bale above and the other images below…
From the looks of these, Gyllenhaal (marking her second directorial effort after the Oscar-nominated The Lost Daughter) has certainly put a new spin on the classic story (or more accurately The Bride Of Frankenstein).
Your official synopsis runs as follows: A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aid of Dr. Euphonious in creating a companion for himself.

Destin Daniel Cretton, the filmmaker who co-wrote and directed the Marvel Studios movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and who executive produced American Born Chinese for Disney+, has launched Hisako, a new multimedia production company.
Cretton will run the banner with Jeyun Munford, formerly an executive at Universal and Lionsgate, who will act as the company’s president, running both film and television arms.
With a focus on empowering filmmakers and creatives, one of Hisako’s mission statements is a commitment to transforming the film and television landscape by highlighting marginalized stories and pushing them into the mainstream. The company is founded on the underlying conviction that storytelling has the power to unite audiences worldwide through shared emotions and experiences.
One of the first projects out of the gate for Hisako will be the big-screen live-action take on Naruto, one of the most popular mangas of all time.

Bale and Buckley star in the pic alongside Annette Bening, Penélope Cruz, and Peter Sarsgaard. The film’s logline reads: A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aid of Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police, and a wild and radical social movement.
The movie is being produced by Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Gyllenhaal, Talia Kleinhendler (The Lost Daughter), and Osnat Handelsman-Keren (The Lost Daughter). EPs are Courtney Kivowitz (The Lost Daughter) and Carla Raij.
The pic will mark Gyllenhaal’s second directorial effort following The Lost Daughter, her screen adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s novel of the same name, starring Olivia Colman, Dakota Johnson, and Jessie Buckley. The film was nominated for three Oscars: Best Actress (Colman), Best Supporting Actress (Buckley), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Gyllenhaal).
The Bride is currently slated for release in IMAX on October 3, 2025. The pic is just the first Frankenstein adaptation audiences can expect on the big screen soon. Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has a Frankenstein feature set at Netflix with Jacob Elordi, Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, and Christian Convery signed on to star.

Our first official look at one of the most anticipated horror movies currently in the works, a new spin on Frankenstein's monster titled "The Bride!", has finally arrived ... and it's nothing like what we were expecting.
Actor/director Maggie Gyllenhaal has long been rumored to be taking a stab at the classic Universal monster(s) and, after the widespread acclaim of 2021's "The Lost Daughter", we most recently had word that the filmmaker had assembled quite an A-list cast of talent for the production. In addition to Annette Bening, Penélope Cruz, and Peter Sarsgaard in various supporting roles, none other than Christian Bale will star as Frankenstein's monster while Buckley reunites with her "The Lost Daughter" director to portray the eponymous Bride. This morning, we got our first look at Bale and Buckley as the monstrous duo and, well, believe us when we say you'll probably need to see it to believe it.

Last year, actress Penélope Cruz set up a joint production venture, Moonlyon, with Madrid-based The Mediapro Studio at the urging of its CEO, Laura Fernández Espeso, a rising star in Spain’s fast-expanding media sector.
“It’s been an amazing connection from the first,” Cruz says, about her working relationship with Fernández Espeso, Variety’s International Media Woman of the Year.
It was no surprise to anyone that Cruz chose Fernández Espeso as her partner: Lifting up female talent in Western Europe and beyond has been a huge part of Fernández Espeso’s mission since she took the reins of the busy production studio five years ago. At her direction, the company, which has 30 production houses, has capitalized on the growing demand for TV series that can travel across the world. Fernández Espeso has steered the effort for the company to make its productions more saleable by lensing in English.

Even though The Notebook opened in theaters in 2004 and is nearly 20 years old, Noah and Allie’s touching and heartbreaking love story still tugs at our heartstrings. The film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ novel evoked a range of emotions, including a complex love triangle, and, of course, intense feelings for Ryan Gosling. Helmed by Nick Cassavetes, the film’s remarkable cast and poignant narrative seem to be contributing to its increasing popularity over time. However, James Marsden, a significant actor in the film, was initially skeptical of its chances of succeeding.

Progress, but not perfect.
Thirty-two percent of the 2024 Oscar nominees are women, tying the all-time high first reached in 2021, a new study by Dr. Stacy L. Smith, the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, and Adobe Foundation has found.
Twenty percent of nominees in the 19 categories (the ones related to feature-film awards) they examined were from an underrepresented racial/ethnic group. That ranks third all-time, behind 2021’s 24 percent and 2019’s 21 percent. Women of color hold 5.7 percent of the nominations in 2024; the all-time high was again in 2021, with 11 percent.
“The study reveals how often the Academy Awards recognize the talent and work of women and people of color,” Dr. Smith said in a statement sent to media. “For those who want to say that the Awards are improving, it is critical to note that in 2024, the percentage of women and people of color nominated for awards in feature categories still falls far below proportional representation.

Kevin Macdonald’s High & Low: John Galliano is another hagiography in an increasingly long list of public relations exercises masquerading as substantial fashion profiles. Except this documentary is a more perverse exercise in self-celebration than its predecessors, as it shamelessly announces from the very start that it’s an attempt at atonement for disgraced designer John Galliano, who was widely condemned in 2011 for racist and antisemitic rants.
High & Low opens with the case that triggered Galliano’s public downfall, all but promising that it will confront his demons head on and leave no stone unturned. Instead, it enlists Galliano’s high-profile friends and former colleagues—among them Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Penélope Cruz, Charlize Theron, and, of course, Anna Wintour—to make the case that it wasn’t really “John” talking at the Paris café La Perle when he used expressions such as “fucking ugly Jewish bitch...

Javier Bardem is currently making headlines for his role of Stilgar in Dune: Part Two. The Denis Villeneuve directorial has been getting rave reviews with 94% on the Tomatometer. And one of the positives on the movie is how Bardem plays the fanatic leader of the Fremen, mentoring Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides. But with as menacing and zealous his character is in the movie, he is quite the opposite in real life.
Javier Bardem in Dune: Part Two
Bardem broke into the silver screen early on when he was only six years old. Coming from a family that has long been part of the movie industry in Spain, and being the son of the popular Spanish actress, Pilar Bardem, the Skyfall actor initially did not want to become an actor. It wasn’t until his lead role Bigas Luna’s 1992 directorial film, Jamón Jamón, that he started taking acting more seriously.

Since 2018 (and in 63% of all years since 1937), Oscar voters have consistently favored supporting actresses who deliver shorter performances than their male counterparts. Indeed, the average screen time gap between the last six pairs of featured acting winners is 28 minutes and 14 seconds, with reigning male champ Ke Huy Quan (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) having been lauded for a performance three times larger than that of his triumphant female cast mate, Jamie Lee Curtis. At just 17 minutes and 15 seconds, hers falls within the shortest quarter of all Best Supporting Actress-winning turns.
Curtis’s performance is the fifth longest in her movie, with non-Oscar nominee James Hong directly outpacing her by two minutes and 22 seconds. A full 25 minutes separate her from fellow supporting actress Stephanie Hsu, who she defeated at both the Screen Actors Guild and Academy Awards. Considering all 87 featured female performances that have won Oscars, hers is the 20th shortest in terms of physical time,...

The Oscars ceremony that took place in 2009 remains an all-time favorite for many who watched it, including your humble correspondent, largely because of the thrilling way in which the four acting Oscars were presented: Five past winners introduced the five current nominees for each award. This resulted in massive standing ovations from the audience at the Dolby (even awards show veterans like Brad Pitt and Meryl Streep looked absolutely giddy in cutaway shots); introductory remarks from past winners that left current nominees visibly moved (Anne Hathaway was in tears); and group hugs of the new winners that were akin to welcoming them into an elite fraternity or sorority (see: Kate Winslet).

With tight races for Lead Actor and Lead Actress, suspense ran high before the first award show to stream live on Netflix, the two-hour commercial-free 30th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Saturday night. “Fucks” were allowed, as Idris Elba proved at the top of the show, followed by “Beef” winner Ali Wong and many others.
There were few surprises among the motion picture winners. The big winner of the night was the riveting historical epic “Oppenheimer” (Universal), which solidified its dominance during the Oscar voting period February 22-27 before the Oscar show on ABC March 10. “Oppenheimer” took home Best Cast in a Motion Picture as well as Male Actor in a Leading Role for Cillian Murphy and Supporting Actor for Robert Downey, Jr., whose win Oscar night seems inevitable. Murphy now takes a substantial lead after his BAFTA win against popular rival Paul Giamatti (“The Holdovers”). The “Oppenheimer” cast was...
