Lionsgate has added three movies to its release calendar.
“Flight Risk,” an aviation thriller starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Mel Gibson, will land on Oct. 18, 2024, while Dave Bautista-led action-comedy “The Killer’s Game” will debut on Sept. 13, 2024. Meanwhile, Gerard Butler’s sequel “Den of Thieves: Pantera” will open on Jan. 10, 2025.
“Flight Risk” is scheduled to debut on the big screen alongside Paramount’s “Smile 2.” In “Flight Risk,” Wahlberg plays a balding and psychotic mob hitman who tricks a federal agent into allowing him to pilot a plane carrying an informant (Topher Grace) out of a remote area. Good news for exhibition as Lionsgate is delivering two big releases this fall: The Dave Bautista action pic The Killer’s Game on Sept. 13 and the Mel Gibson directed Mark Wahlberg movie Flight Risk for Oct. 18. Again, we can’t be without film product in a marketplace that’s starving for volume.
Meanwhile the Gerard Butler sequel Den of Thieves: Pantera will hit cinemas on Jan. 10, 2025; that title arriving to Lionsgate through its eOne acquistion.
The JJ Perry directed The Killer’s Game, based on the book by Jay R. Bonansinga and adapted by Rand Ravich and James Coyne, follows a top hitman, Joe Flood (Bautista) who is diagnosed with a terminal illness. He opts to take matters into his own hands – by taking a hit out on himself. But when the very hitmen he hired also target his ex-girlfriend (Sofia Boutella), he must fend off an army of assassin colleagues and...

After performing epically in quite a few romantic comedies until 2010 and winning the hearts of fangirls worldwide, Gerard Butler seems to have switched lanes permanently into the action genre. Well, he is acing it in that too, considering how the 54-year-old actor is once again reportedly all set to return to the big screens with Empire State, his next major action-thriller project.

But while he is still performing as brilliantly as ever in this respective genre, viewers can’t help but notice a similar pattern in a lot of Butler’s movies of the action/thriller/adventure themes. That being said, after hearing reports of this very upcoming action movie of his, a lot of fans seem to know already what to expect to see from it!

Exclusive: As production on his new actioner Den of Thieves 2: Pantera continues, Christian Gudegast has been set to write and direct a new film on mixed martial artist Royce Gracie and the birth of the Ultimate Fighting Championship for frequent partner Tucker Tooley Entertainment.
The Untitled Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Project takes place on the night that Gracie proved Brazilian Jiu-jitsu as the most effective fighting style, one that would ultimately become a major component of today’s UFC mixed martial arts. It more specifically chronicles Gracie’s debut in UFC 1 on November 12, 1993, when the fighter achieved the unthinkable during the organization’s inaugural competition. This night that had him besting three competitors is considered to be that on which the UFC was born.

Exclusive: Christian Gudegast (Den of Thieves) has closed a deal to direct the thriller Crown Vic for MadRiver Pictures.
Crown Vic is described as a too-insane-to-be-true crime story set in the early 1980s San Fernando Valley — a world where L.A. cops, mythologized by TV shows from Dragnet to CHiPs, were rock stars who operated with unchecked power. Its protagonists are Richard Ford and Robert Von Villas, two Vietnam War heroes turned superstar LAPD cops, who parlayed their positions to get rich, while cozying up to Hollywood’s biggest TV stars. The duo went on to build an underground criminal operation as thieves, gun runners and murderers for hire, until their unwilling business partner risked everything to bring them down.

Solstice Studios has acquired worldwide rights to the Gerard Butler action thriller “The Plane” on the heels of Lionsgate dropping out of distributing because producers were unable to obtain production insurance that would cover a Covid-19 outbreak.
Lionsgate boarded “The Plane” a year ago at the American Film Market, buying the rights to the film for North America, Latin America, the U.K. and India.
Solstice said Friday it is targeting a June 28, 2021, production start date. The producing team had originally planned to shoot the film in Malaysia last month, but opted against doing so when Covid cases spiked in the country. The filmmakers had been considering shooting in the Dominican Republic and in the U.S., but had not locked down a location, leading to Lionsgate deciding to back away from the project.

Exclusive: Solstice Studios has acquired worldwide rights to The Plane, an elevated action thriller that stars Gerard Butler. The film is currently booked for takeoff on June 28, 2021, shooting in Southeast Asia.
Deadline revealed earlier this week that Lionsgate exited the film because the production could not get Covid insurance and the risk became too great for the indie studio on the $50 million budget film. The picture was the hottest package at 2019 AFM that sold out every territory, and it was originally supposed to be shooting now in Malaysia but stalled because of a Covid spike there. Same thing happened when an attempt was made to move production to the Dominican Republic and then the U.S. The Plane illustrates the troubles facing any indie distributors and producer/financiers trying to mount pictures because insurance companies aren’t writing Covid policies now or are doing it for Covid and “civil authority” clauses at prohibitively high rates.

Gerard Butler thriller had been bought by Lionsgate last year for US, UK other markets.
Lionsgate has pulled out as distributor of forthcoming Gerard Butler thriller The Plane because producers were unable to secure production insurance covering a coronavirus outbreak.

Exclusive: In a development that will chill those roaming the halls of the virtual American Film Market and putting film deals together, Lionsgate has exited The Plane, the Christian Gudegast-directed action film set to star Gerard Butler. The film was the big acquisition title at last year’s AFM, and it sold out to the walls quickly after financier MadRiver International unveiled it. Lionsgate took a big chunk of the world, landing rights in North America, Latin America, the UK and India.
I’ve confirmed that Lionsgate is out, because the producers were unable to lock down production insurance that would cover a Covid-19 outbreak. The turbulence should be temporary for The Plane: MadRiver International and CAA Media Finance, which made the original deal, will make another soon with a distributor that likely will self-insure. That means the new distributor will set aside several million dollars to provide a cushion,...

While we aim to discuss a wide breadth of films each year, few things give us more pleasure than the arrival of bold, new voices. It’s why we venture to festivals and pore over a variety of different features that might bring to light some emerging talent. This year was an especially notable time for new directors making their stamp, and we’re highlighting the handful of 2018 debuts that most impressed us.
Below, one can check out a list spanning a variety of different genres and distributions, from those that barely received a theatrical release to wide bows. In years to come, take note as these helmers (hopefully) ascend.

Exclusive: Tucker Tooley Entertainment has picked up the crime drama film spec script Thug for Den of Thieves writer/director Christian Gudegast to helm. The project was penned by Tony Gayton. Tucker Tooley, CEO of Tooley Entertainment, will produce.
Gudegast, co-screenwriter for London Has Fallen which grossed $205.9M globally, made his directorial debut on Den of Thieves which Tooley also produced. The relationship between Gudegast and Tooley is very strong as the writer/director is also scripting the sequel to Den of Thieves.
Thug follows an ex-journeyman boxer and aging enforcer for a San Pedro Gangster who attempts to get back into the lives of his estranged children and clean up the messes of his past while coming to terms with the ruined landscape of his twenty-year career in crime all the while as the criminal underworld won’t loosen their hold on him.

This is the Pure Movies review of Den of Thieves, directed by Christian Gudegast and starring Gerard Butler, Pablo Schreiber, O'Shea Jackson Jr. and 50 Cent. It’s the start of 2018 and we always need another heist movie in these cold winter months to get the blood flowing. It’s irrelevant that Den of Thieves feels like a Heat copycat, with the age-old ‘cop versus robber’ cat-and-mouse game at play, it has up-to-date effects and weaponry to enjoy. Ignore the fact that the gamble is on-screen tough guy Gerard Butler to bring home the goods, especially in what are notoriously ‘slow months’ for any release while the big awards season proceeds.

Gerard Butler's heist thriller, Den of Thieves, which is still currently playing in theaters is getting a sequel. Butler and director Christian Gudegast are both set to return. I thought the first film was pretty awesome and I'm happy to hear that we'll be getting a sequel.
According to Variety, "The second installment will place Butler’s character Big Nick on the hunt in the streets of Europe and closing in on Donnie, who is embroiled in the dangerous world of diamond theft, plotting a heist of the world’s biggest diamond exchange."
O’Shea Jackson Jr. is currently in negotiations to reprise his role as Donnie. Den of Thieves was Christian Gudegast's first time directing a feature film. Before that he wrote the scripts Speed Racer, A Man Apart, Immortals and London Has Fallen.

Gerard Butler will return to head up the cast, as Den Of Thieves 2 is confirmed...
We quite enjoyed the recent Den Of Thieves, a bit of a Heat-lite mix of crime and action, starring Gerard Butler. It may not have been a huge critical smash, but it’s done decent business at the box office, earning around $60m worldwide off a $30m budget.

Gerard Butler hunts bank robbers as La sheriff Big Nick in Den Of Thieves. It’s a surprisingly good heist thriller, Ryan writes...
Gerard Butler and 50 Cent in a film by the screenwriter of London Has Fallen might sound like a match made in straight-to-dvd heaven, but there’s more going on in Den Of Thieves than guns and machismo. Gerard Butler’s team of tough-guy ’tecs take on a gang of audacious La outlaws in this warmed-up throwback to Heat
It’s been 23 years since Michael Mann’s landmark La crime opus Heat alchemised pulp into gleaming screen spectacle, raising the possibility an entire generation has gone unaware of the symbiotic cops-and-robbers trope. Writer-director Christian Gudegast here leaps into that demographic gap with a film that falls somewhere between Mann fan art and an extended upgrade of those late-90s knock-offs with titles such as City of Industry and Body Count.
The script, co-credited to Prison Break mastermind Paul Scheuring, outlines yet another mirrored face-off. On one side, jacked and tatted outlaws – headed by Orange is the New Black’s Pablo Schreiber – who have the audacity to steal an empty armoured van for reasons initially unclear; opposite them, jacked and tatted detectives, headed by all-drinkin’, ever-smokin’ bad boy Gerard Butler,...

Ray Merriman (Pablo Schreiber) is the leader of a clutch of well-trained bank-robbers, responsible for a string of recent robberies. Set in Los Angeles, specified as the bank-robbery capital of the world, we follow a group of cops and a group of robbers. “Big Nick” O’Brien (Gerard Butler) is the gruff and gritty Sheriff who breaks the rules to snatch the criminals, assisted by his fellow Lasd hedonists. Ray Merriman (Pablo Schreiber) is the leader of a clutch of well-trained bank-robbers, responsible for a string of recent robberies. Merrimen’s latest plan is to break into the Federal Reserve Bank,...

Christian Gudegast is the writer behind some pretty good action films like London Has Fallen and A Man Apart. Now in his directorial debut he brings us Den Of Thieves, the action thriller that pits two crews on both sides of the law against each other in modern day Los Angeles. Gerard Butler and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson co-star in this action-packed heist film, but is it just another mediocre movie?

Testosterone drips off Christian Gudegast's cops-and-robbers thriller that has all the phony authenticity of its Atlanta locations pretending to be Los Angeles. Co-stars Gerard Butler and Pablo Schreiber, playing alpha dogs on opposite sides of the law, seem to be competing for which of them can be the most bulked-up, macho badass onscreen. The loser is the audience for Den of Thieves, an over-the-top crime saga mainly indicating that its writer-director has seen Michael Mann's Heat too many times.
