CBS’s hit show Tracker, starring Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw, has surprisingly emerged as television’s most-watched series, with its first season finale drawing 7 million live viewers this past May. What sets this show apart, however, isn’t just its gripping main plot but the intricate and often messy family drama that unfolds as a subplot. Tracker follows a lone-wolf survivalist named Colter Shaw (Hartley), who roams the country as a ‘reward seeker,’ using his expert tracking skills to help private citizens and law enforcement solve all manner of mysteries while contending with his own fractured family, explains Mike Benson. There's something to be said for a first-season show where the struggle is real to find many negatives.
It's rare for a television series to have a perfect season, and we're certainly not going to say that Tracker Season 1 didn't have any flaws, but the show had a damn good start.
Justin Hartley was perfectly cast as reward seeker Colter Shaw, an independent man with a fractured family who devoted his life to travel, solitude, and helping to find missing people, sometimes even when they didn't necessarily want to be found.
The action drama was refreshing because it differed from the typical procedurals found everywhere else.
Tracker had cases of the week, but they were far from typical, and just the sheer fact that Colter took cases all over the country made for episodes that were wildly different from one week to the next.

Justin Hartley scored another smash hit with Tracker. Fans remember him from his other starring role as Kevin Pearson in This Is Us. However, landing another huge ratings winner is no cakewalk. Recently, Hartley gave his fans an inside look at the rigorous workload that goes into bringing Colter Shaw to life.
Justin Hartley Went From Soap Hunk To Leading Man
When Justin Hartley first got his start in soaps, he was pure eye candy, and everyone knew it. Hartley opened up in the past about how he would spend weeks filming with his shirt off, and how that became such a staple of his early scenes on soaps like Passions.
Of course, it never hurts to have a chiseled jaw and leading man good looks. For Justin Hartley, it just took him a while to fully reach his potential as a leading man, especially one capable of carrying a...

The odds are in Tracker’s favor, as the show has just triumphantly ended the 2023-2024 TV season garnering an impressive amount of viewers and surpassing even CBS’ long-standing giant NCIS.
Apart from NCIS, Tracker is followed by CBS’ other successful projects, and though many of them came quite close to the number one position, the Justin Hartley-led action drama show is still on top. Fair to say it does seem like a good sign for the upcoming second season.

Tracker’s first season officially wrapped it all up several days ago, leaving a lot of issues for the next installment to resolve. The season finale left everyone on the hook with a huge cliffhanger concerning Colter Shaw’s family mystery, but now it seems like all the family drama won’t be the only big plot twist in the upcoming season.
With some other major characters who have been confirmed to return in season 2, someone else is also set to get back to the screen.
Following the season 1 ending that was aired on May 19, Tracker’s star Justin Hartley got candid about what fans may expect to see in the show’s next installment.
Apart from the confirmed comeback of Colter’s entire family, including his estranged and pretty suspicious brother Russell, portrayed by Jensen Ackles, Hartley also dropped another big spoiler by revealing that Billie Matalon “is definitely coming back.

Football continues to act as the glue that holds the broadcast nets together, while Justin Hartley’s Tracker found more viewers this season than longtime victor NCIS.
The 2023-24 Nielsen charts also revealed how Young Sheldon was able to go out on top, while many other CBS series remained in the total viewer top 20. Yet one of the bigger head scratchers was the performance by the network’s Blue Bloods, which, despite averaging 8.1 million viewers this year, is on its way out.
The police drama still does better than The Equalizer (7.7 million) and Fire Country (7.1 million), but the Tom Selleck series is scheduled to wrap at year’s end for its 14th and final season.
“We love this cast, we love their passion for the show,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach told reporters in early May. “All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule.

Tracker’s first season officially wrapped it all up last week, as its finale left a lot to be explored in the next installment, and chances are Supernatural’s star Jensen Ackles will be back to the show once again. Now that Ackles has seemingly cemented his character’s importance for everything that’s going to happen next, Tracker’s leading actor has given some sneak peeks into the production process, even revealing that getting Russell’s role was a somewhat easy thing for his co-star who just needed to free some space for it.

Regular old CBS can still make new hits.
That’s the takeaway from Nielsen’s report on the 100 most-watched primetime broadcast and cable series of the 2023-24 season (via Variety), which lists the freshman drama series “Tracker” as TV’s top non-sports program. It’s the first time a new series has been the No. 1 show since “Survivor” in 2000, per CBS.
“Tracker” capitalized on its coveted post-Super Bowl series premiere slot and lack of new series competition in the midst of a strike-disrupted broadcast season, averaging 10.8 million total viewers per episode in Season 1 on the way to becoming the most-watched new series since “Desperate Housewives” in 2024-25. The series, which stars “This Is Us” veteran Justin Hartley as a survivalist who helps find missing persons, beat out second-place drama “NCIS” by more than a million viewers.
CBS also has the year’s top comedy series, the final season of “Young Sheldon.

My Adventures with Superman is one of the most brilliant superhero animated series. Created by Brendan Clougher, Jake Wyatt, and Josie Campbell, the Adult Swim series tells the story of Superman aka Clark Kent as he starts his new job at The Daily Planet, with his roommate Jimmy Olson, and his senior intern at The Daily Planet who is none other than Lois Lane. They quickly become a team and try to bring in big stories so that they can become real reporters while Clark also tries to become the hero he is meant to be. My Adventures with Superman has great action but the brilliant thing about the series is that it isn’t an action series about Superman, it’s a series about a superhero and his relationships as he figures out who he really is. Now, it's a disappointing shell of those days.
The Vampire Diaries premiered back in 2009 and led to two additional spinoffs, while DC's Arrow began in 2012 and also began a massive franchise.

According to rumors, James Gunn will make Green Arrow a part of his Justice League team in the Dcu. The character has a decent fanbase, thanks to Stephen Amell’s eight-season run as Oliver Queen in The CW show, Arrow. Earlier, Zack Snyder tried to include the character in the Dceu, with another actor considered for the role, but it didn’t ultimately work out. Interestingly, rumors also suggest that Dcu will make Black Canary his partner.

That’s up 5% from the week prior and up 3% versus the show’s post-Super Bowl audience average. The series kicked off in February with a larger-than-life premiere audience, thanks to a lead-in from the Chiefs-49ers game.
Paramount says live streaming across Paramount+ and CBS digital apps saw a boost as well. Tracker gained 77% on the broadcast finale that aired in this time period last year, which was East New York.
It’s no surprise that Tracker received an early Season 2 renewal back in March. Deadline spoke with Hartley about the dramatic conclusion, which he says will usher in a “bigger mystery” in Season 2.

The plot thickens!
This may have been an hour devoid of Jensen Ackles (boo!), but the Shaw Family drama was creeping in the background of Tracker Season 1 Episode 13, as Colter headed back to a place his family used to frequent to help an old friend.
Said friend had a lot of interesting information for Colter and the audience to ponder over now that the first season of the CBS hit has come to a close.
There was much to enjoy about Tracker Season 1, as the Justin Hartley-led action drama lived up to the hype and became a bonafide hit with viewers who enjoyed the complex cases of the week and Hartley's appeal.
Was it perfect? Absolutely not.
But that's a discussion for another day and perhaps another article where we break down the season in a much larger context.
For now, let's concentrate on the finale, which saw...

Cancelations suck, and the 2024 season has been particularly brutal.
Long-running favorites such as Station 19, Blue Bloods, and Young Sheldon are going off the air, leaving fans brokenhearted -- and actors out of a steady gig.
Sometimes, actors land a new gig right away, and other times, they struggle to find new work. The cancellations were recently announced, so not everyone has had the opportunity to move on to a new project yet, but there are some interesting things in the works.

That allows them to become household names but also can make it harder for them to get new jobs in the future. For example, Henry Winkler was so associated with The Fonz that when Happy Days ended,...

He doesn’t know if he fell or someone else pushed him, but he’s certain someone else was in the wood that night. Their father had enemies and was paranoid, Russell reminds Colter.
