For several years, Forbes has ranked the Dallas Cowboys as not only the most valuable team in the NFL, but the most valuable sports team in the world. In 2023, the Cowboys were worth $9 billion and rising — the result of decades of exceptional athletic talent, coaching, and management that took shape during the ’90s, when the once-struggling team transformed into three-time Super Bowl champions.
The upcoming documentary series by the Emmy-winning directors of Wild Wild Country and Untold will tell the story of how “America’s Team” established a legacy. It features interviews with the architects of the Cowboys’ success, including the owner, president, and general manager, Jerry Jones, who purchased the team in 1989. Among the doc’s other commentators are players who became household names in the ’90s — Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders — as well as head coaches Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer,...

The hits keep coming at NFL Network. The sports network has canceled NFL Total Access after 21 years and cut commentator Michael Irvin from its payroll after 15 years. Irvin, a former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, joined NFL Network in 2009 and has provided commentary for the network since — though he was taken off NFL Network’s Super Bowl coverage in 2023 after a complaint from a hotel employee. “As is normal course of business this time of year, we are evaluating our talent roster for the upcoming 2024 season and beyond,” NFL Network said in a statement to Deadline, which reported the news of Irvin’s departure on Saturday. “That process results in renewals, non-renewals and additions to our talent lineup depending on programming needs. NFL Hall-of-Famer Michael Irvin will return to the NFL Network on Sunday following a February suspension that involved a hotel employee’s complaint.
Marriott has settled a $100 million defamation lawsuit with Irvin.
Irvin filed the lawsuit against Mariott and six others for defamation and tortious interference in a business relationship after a female employee accused the former wide receiver of inappropriate comments in an Arizona hotel lobby during Super Bowl weekend. Irvin has denied the allegations against him. Marriott stated that Irvin flagged down the female hotel employee while appearing visibly intoxicated. The company reported the incident to the NFL, leading to Irvin’s suspension.
Video evidence in March showed surveillance video from the hotel where Irvin was seen shaking hands with the women before leaving during the two-minute encounter.
New Video: Lawyers for Michael Irvin show the surveillance video from the hotel where an employee mad a sexual assault allegation against Irvin.

Skydance Sports, NFL Films and the Jerry Jones family are collaborating on what they call a “defining” docuseries about the Dallas Cowboys and the arc of Jones as the owner and builder of the franchise over 30-plus years.

ESPN host Stephen A. Smith has a reputation for shooting from the hip with outrageous takes on sports issues. Today, he turned the attention on himself, candidly admitting his role in having First Take co-host Max Kellerman removed from the show.
First Take is one of the highest-rated ESPN shows, although its audience has dwindled since Skip Bayless left for Fox in 2016. The Smith-Kellerman marriage resulted from that, but apparently soured over the long term, according to Smith, who talked to Hot 97 radio’s Ebro Darden and Peter Rosenberg..
“The rumor’s accurate in terms of me wanting him off the show,” Smith said of Kellerman. It “was not a great partnership anymore and that was something that needed to change.”
Smith felt that the team had hit a wall.
“It wasn’t really about asking him to be off the show, it was about the fact that I knew that we,...

ESPN today announced Tim Tebow as one of the initial debate partners on Stephen A. Smith’s First Take.
Tebow, who was cut from the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars in his latest pro sports comeback attempt, will appear with Smith on Fridays. The show has also slotted ex-Dallas receiver and Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin on Mondays.
The other days will feature a rotating cast of ESPN personalities, including Mina Kimes and Kendrick Perkins. Molly Qerim Rose will remain on the show as a moderator. The multiple hosts replace Max Kellerman, who will be moving to his own afternoon show and morning radio stint for ESPN.
Tebow likely will have his hands full taking on the bombastic Smith. The highly religious 2007 Heisman Trophy winner isn’t known for a mean streak and outrageous comments, something Smith has in abundance.
Kellerman made his final appearance on the show Wednesday.

The NFL, which has already taken steps to strongly encourage its players to get vaccinated against Covid-19, is ramping up the pressure at the team level.
The league has sent a memo to its 32 clubs that if games are forced to be postponed due to a positive Covid test, they will go down as forfeits if they can’t be rescheduled. That will not only hit teams’ win-loss record, but also wipe out a paycheck and deny the home team’s ability to derive revenue from hosting the game.
NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero obtained the memo and tweeted it in full. He said the league was going to convene a call with team owners this evening.
“These operating principles are designed to allow us to play a full season in a safe and responsible way,” Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote, “and address possible competitive or financial issues fairly. While there...

Most of us have seen the picture. You know, the one where a college-aged Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson sports a black turtleneck, herringbone chain, baggy jeans and a fanny pack in the most ’90s centric photo ever?
