Steve Zahn has joined Glen Powell in the upcoming Hulu comedy series “Chad Powers,” Variety has learned.
The series was originally picked up at Hulu in February. Powell will star in the series in addition to co-creating and co-writing the pilot with Michael Waldron, with both serving as executive producers. The show is based on the Chad Powers character created by Eli Manning for his Epsn+ docuseries “Eli’s Places.” Manning wanted to learn more about the walk-on process for college football, so he donned a wig and prosthetic makeup so he could go undercover during the Penn State football tryouts.
The official description for the series states, “When bad behavior nukes hotshot Qb Russ Holliday’s (Powell) college career, he disguises himself and walks onto a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers.”
Zahn will play Jake Hudson, described as “the charismatic head coach of a flagging college football program.

After producing the upcoming documentary “The Blue Angels,” J.J. Abrams and Glen Powell are in early talks to team up for a new movie, with Abrams eyeing Powell to star in his next directorial effort.
Deals have yet to close, but in the aftermath of “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Anyone but You,” no one’s career has been hotter than Powell’s, who continues to garner interest from big-name filmmakers and studios.
There’s no telling when this project would fit into Powell’s jam-packed production schedule. He’ll next be seen starring in Netflix’s “Hit Man,” which he also co-wrote with director Richard Linklater, but he’s also set to star in Edgar Wright’s “The Running Man” reboot for Paramount. While Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues was released back in 2013, no solid plan for a follow-up has been announced. However, this does not mean that Ron Burgundy is officially gone from the spotlight, as Will Ferrell looks to break out the character every now and then. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest instance of Burgundy’s mustachioed return came at the Netflix comedy special, The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady. Before Burgundy took the stage, he was introduced as “a living legend, a world-class lover and the No. 1 news anchor in all of Sunday.” Then, Ferrell sported a corduroy jacket and proceeded to joke, “My name is Ron Burgundy. I am a very big deal but tonight is not about me. …We are here to honor a champion of the gridiron, a great American, a father and a sexy man, a true patriot — until he was not.

Will Ferrell appeared at the Tom Brady roast Sunday night in character as his Anchorman persona, Ron Burgundy.
He was introduced as “a living legend, a world-class lover and the No. 1 news anchor in all of Sunday.”
“My name is Ron Burgundy,” he said. “I am a very big deal but tonight is not about me.… We are here to honor a champion of the gridiron, a great American, a father and a sexy man, a true patriot — until he was not.”
Burgundy started out by commenting on Brady’s good looks.
“This man is gorgeous.… Look at those cheekbones. That’s a million-watt smile right there.… I could get lost in those eyes and right now I am that person,” he said. “Ron, pull it together. You’re a straight man. He’s making you question your sexuality. Stop looking at him. You’re here to make fun of him.

Actor Will Ferrell, dressed as his iconic Ron Burgundy character from “Anchorman,” brought the laughs at Netflix’s live roast of Tom Brady event in Los Angeles.
During the event, which was filled with jokes about Brady’s ex-wife Gisele Bundchen and his “golden skin,” Ferrell targeted Brady’s NFL counterpart Eli Manning, the former New York Giants quarterback. He quipped, “You don’t see Eli Manning here tonight, do you? That’s cause Tom’s afraid of Eli Manning.” Ferrell then led the audience in chanting, “Eli Manning made Tom Brady his bitch,” drawing a blend of boos and enthusiastic participation.

The 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament demonstrates a rising trend of sports simulcasts. Can alternate broadcasts help streamers differentiate?
Even for casual sports fans, it’s hard to ignore the number of options you have for watching just one sporting event these days. Take the 2024 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments, for example. The national championship game on the men’s side will air on TNT, TBS, and stream on Max, while the women’s championship will be broadcast on ABC and streamed on ESPN+. Sports rightsholders are doing their best to meet fans wherever they are, and as customers struggle to find which channel or streamer is carrying which sport a new question for providers comes into focus: how do they differentiate themselves from the competition as sports games become more available in more places? One popular way that broadcasters have increasingly embraced in recent years is the alternate broadcast.

That’s right, one of the NFL’s most famous quarterbacks and the star of one of the highest-grossing films of the decade have clashed, prompting a brand new debate: Who handles a football better, Eli Manning or Glen Powell? But this one won’t be settled on the gridiron.

Glen Powell is headed to Hulu to star in a new football series that he co-created.
Fresh off the success of his rom-com Anyone But You, the 35-year-old actor is putting together the show, titled Chad Powers.
If it sounds familiar, that’s because it’s inspired by an old skit that NFL star Eli Manning filmed!
Read more about Glen Powell’s new project…
Chad Powers pulls inspiration from a plot on the Esnp+ series Eli’s Places. In one episode, Eli portrayed an alter ego named Chad who went back to college to play football at Penn State.
Glen is creating the new series, which has been compared to Ted Lasso, alongside Michael Waldron. They co-wrote the pilot and are acting as executive producers alongside Eli and his brother Peyton.
“We’re both diehard college football fans,” the collaborators said in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter.

No one loves Eli Manning as much as I do. Somewhere, I have a book on Manning inscribed, “To the only Giants fan who never booed Eli.” (Accurate.) There are the jerseys, cards, the autographs, the bobbleheads. I was at Eli’s first game, his retirement ceremony game, and so many in between. One time, I interviewed Manning while he was ostensibly promoting Frank’s RedHot Original sauce just so I could relive the glory days he never knew we shared. But I know a ripoff when I see one, and Hulu’s new series “Chad Powers” is a direct attempt to capitalize on the gigantic success of Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso.”
Before “Ted Lasso” was a show, Ted Lasso was a heightened fish-out-of-water original character created solely to promote a major media company’s sports brand. It was to be a one-and-done comedy skit. Before “Chad Powers” was a show,...

In this Super Bowl commercial, the car is the star.
While many big game marketers are relying on famous faces such as Peyton Manning, Tina Fey, Kate McKinnon, Chris Pratt or LL Cool J to capture viewers’ attention this Sunday, Toyota is making a late drive into Super Bowl Lviii with a new ad that lets its new Tacoma speak for itself (more or less).
In a 30-second spot crafted with Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi, Toyota spotlights the Tacoma’s ability to help drivers have new adventures, particularly off-road ones. Passengers are spotted grabbing the passenger-side grip handle as the car is put through its paces. They have colorful comments to offer, including “Shut the front door” or “Woah, woah, woah, woah!” or “No me gusta!” The ad is kinetic, and not for those who might easily get motion sickness.
There were other interesting outbursts, says Mike Tripp, group vice president,...

The Super Bowl has long been known as the Big Game, but some people out there are treating it like a smaller one.
Advertisers typically plunk down millions of dollars for a 30- or 60-second ad in the Super Bowl telecast on the broadcast network showing the annual NFL extravaganza. This year, for the first time, they have some intriguing alternatives. Some have chosen to run commercials only on Univision, which has the rights to air the game in Spanish. Others are relying on ads that will appear only on kids-cable favorite Nickelodeon, which is running a telecast aimed at families. At least one advertiser, Ally Financial, has placed an ad only in the Paramount+ stream of the Super Bowl, rather than on CBS.

From games being strewn across an ever-increasing number of networks and streamers, it is getting extremely difficult for football fans to watch all of the games.
The NFL’s Super Wild Card Weekend and Divisional rounds are over, and as usual, the first two rounds of the league’s postseason had some thrillers, along with some clunkers. One of the greatest plays in sports isn’t taking place on any athletic field.
Walt Disney Co. and the National Football League are said to be in earnest talks, according to two people familiar with the matter, that could have the league take a stake in ESPN while putting its NFL Media unit, which the sports body has been trying to monetize in better fashion, under the media company’s control. Such a move would further align Disney with the NFL, making it difficult for the company to lose valuable sports rights to show top-rated football games, and could put such NFL assets as the NFL Network and RedZone under Disney’s aegis.
Disney and the NFL declined to comment on the talks, which were reported previously by The New York Post and The Atlantic. Disney has been seeking partners for ESPN as it faces declines in one of...

Nickelodeon’s Super Bowl booth is going to get really animated on Game Day.
The Paramount Global kids-focused outlet plans to offer a simulcast of Super Bowl Lviii aimed at children and families while corporate cousin CBS broadcasts the more traditional version of the pigskin extravaganza. And while Nickelodeon will rely on sportscasters Nate Burleson and Noah Eagle to call the game, it will also tap the expertise of SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star. Those two cartoon mainstays — voiced by Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke, respectively — will help relay the action to viewers during Nickelodeon’s Super Bowl event.
Others will also join in. Sandy Cheeks, voiced by Carolyn Lawrence, will hold forth from the sidelines, while Larry the Lobster, voiced by a different actor, Mr. Lawrence, will provide live commentary. Dora the Explorer, voiced by Diana Zermeño, and Boots, voiced by Asher Colton Spence, will explain penalty calls when they arise.

Kevin Hart is taking a leaf out of Peyton and Eli Manning’s playbook.
The comedian is to host a Manningcast-style alternate broadcast for the NBA’s new in-season tournament. NBA Unplugged with Kevin Hart, which comes from Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions and Hart’s own Hartbeat, will air on ESPN2 on December 9
Hart will host alongside the Plastic Cup Boyz: Joey Wells, Will Horton and Na’im Lynn with special guest appearances from athletes and celebrities, much like the Manningcast has for the NFL.
After the In-Season Tournament Championship Game broadcast, seven episodes will air throughout the season tied to marquee NBA games on ESPN platforms including the New York Knicks vs. Philadelphia 76ers in January and Dallas Mavericks vs. Miami Heat in April.
Hart has previously appeared on the Manningcast where the brothers mocked Hart for his height and Hart retorted that the Mannings actually hate each other.
