Although Yellowstone is set to come to an epic conclusion with its final season, we haven’t seen the last of the Dutton family, not by a long shot. A new Yellowstone spinoff series will continue the story, and according to Jeff Sneider, the legendary Kurt Russell is circling a role in the project.
Nothing has been confirmed at the moment, but Kurt Russell has been mentioned before in relation to Yellowstone. The Tombstone actor is no stranger to the genre, and it would be easy to imagine him joining the franchise. It reported last month that Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes would be reprising their roles of Rip, Beth, and Kayce in the new show, and another Hollywood icon could be joining them: Michelle Pfeiffer.
Matthew Belloni mentioned Pfeiffer’s possible involvement in Puck earlier this year, saying the actress was actually closer to committing to the spinoff than Matthew McConaughey,...

Yellowstone has been one of the most significant television shows over the recent few years. It boasts a magnificent cast and a much-celebrated universe centering around the Dutton Ranch.
Besides the worldwide popularity of the show for its content, Yellowstone has also witnessed several off-screen dramas that include legal battles. The show faced a prominent legal battle when creator Taylor Sheridan filed a lawsuit against actor Cole Hauser’s coffee company.

Donald Trump has been cashing in on his new title of convicted felon.
Rolling Stone reported earlier this week that the former president’s team expected a guilty verdict in the hush-money trial and were preparing a fundraising blitz as soon as the jury handed down a decision. The blitz came just minutes after Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records with which he was charged, and on Friday morning, his campaign announced they had raised a whopping $34.8 from small-dollar donations following the verdict.

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone is coming to an end with the second part of the final season, currently in production. While a spinoff series is in the slate from the same creator, neither Sheridan nor Paramount has said anything definitive about the series. According to a recent report, three major Yellowstone stars would return to the spinoff series with a record salary.

It was reported that Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes would return in the spinoff. Earlier reports suggested that the spinoff is eyeing top actors like Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer, who are pricier than the three aforementioned Yellowstone stars.
However, it is unlikely that these stars would beat the record salaries of Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon in The Morning Show.

Yellowstone star Kevin Costner has said he would consider working with the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, again despite reports of conflict. The Emmy-winning actor recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his latest film, Horizon: An American Saga, where he shared an update on his relationship with Sheridan. “No, we haven’t [talked],” Costner said, referencing his involvement in Yellowstone‘s final episodes. Costner, who played the lead role of John Dutton on the hit neo-Western drama, previously left the series amid a rumored falling out with Sheridan over salary and scheduling. The two-time Oscar winner’s four-part film series, Horizon: An American Saga, was said to be a major sticking point. Back in March, it was reported that Costner wanted back in for the final season, even if only in a cameo role. However, Puck‘s Matthew Belloni claimed “no discussions” had taken place about the actor’s return, as...

Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay for The Social Network based on the 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires. Sorkin won the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar that year for the script that explored the founding of Facebook. The acclaimed writer is set to write a sequel for that project, and Mark Zuckerberg wouldn’t be too happy about it. Sorkin blamed Facebook for the January 6 attack and vowed to write all about it in The Social Network 2 during a recent podcast appearance.

If there ever was a based-on-a-true-story movie that called for a sequel, it’s “The Social Network,” director David Fincher and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin’s 2010 classic about the founding of Facebook. The early years covered in the film were just the beginning of the Mark Zuckerberg story before Facebook (now Meta) became one of the most powerful companies on the planet, capable of shaping the future of democracy for the worse.
So it’s no wonder that Sorkin is working on a sort of sequel to “The Social Network.”
During an interview on the showbiz news podcast “The Town,” Sorkin was asked how he thinks Facebook and social media, in general, have impacted democracy in the 14 years since “The Social Network” came out.
After exchanging a look with his publicist, Sorkin told host Matthew Belloni and guest co-host Peter Hamby that he’s planning to write a movie about this topic.

Aaron Sorkin is writing a new movie that could serve as a sequel to The Social Network.

Francis Ford Coppola has finally finished his magnum opus Megalopolis. The filmmaker’s self-funded sci-fi epic has reportedly been in the making since the ‘80s and the Apocalypse Now director finally got to revive it a few years ago. However, the film has a huge obstacle to pass through as prominent studios are reportedly not interested in giving a distribution deal.
Coppola’s epic has reportedly been avoided like the plague by major Hollywood studios, who allegedly do not see commercial potential in it. Though the film has names such as Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, and Audrey Plaza attached to it, there seem to be no takers. After a recent screening, fans have been reportedly campaigning for studios to give the film a wide release.

It’s not a secret that Star Wars fandom is facing sort of a social crisis. In recent times, much of the focus of the franchise has been put on female leads and representation within live-action projects. Some fans consider it to be a good thing, while some are criticizing that direction.
The reasons behind the criticism are numerous, some fans are genuinely misogynistic, but a vast majority feel that the female and minority representation feels forced and therefore falls flat and bland, being there just for the sake of being there, which makes the overall products all that worse.
For many the face of that new woke direction is Kathleen Kennedy, a film producer and the current president of Lucasfilm. She has been perceived as “woke” by some due to her approach to diversity and inclusion within the Star Wars franchise. This perception largely stems from her decisions regarding...

We’re leaving Las Vegas.
CinemaCon 2024 is over — time for studios to go out and prove their pitches at the box office. Based on what we saw, or really what we didn’t see, that will be an uphill battle.
First, let’s take a moment to appreciate the folks and films that showed up. Arguably, the biggest star to attend CinemaCon was Kevin Costner. The cynical point of view? He was pitching not one but two “Horizon” films to theater owners — and simultaneously pitching third and fourth installments to Warner Bros. Plus, Costner received a trophy (the CinemaCon Visionary Award), for which WB execs shooed him offstage just to call him back up. Kinda silly. Speaking of WB execs and no-shows, if David Zaslav was in town, he didn’t come on stage.
Jeff Goldblum did, as did his fellow “Wicked” co-stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Michelle Yeoh.

After the Kevin Costner exit drama in Yellowstone, Matthew McConaughey is no closer to signing the deal for a new spin-off series. While the actor’s involvement was reported a few months back, one issue stopped him from closing the deal. McConaughey will only agree to the series if he sees a script for the same from Taylor Sheridan. The same script issue was one of the reasons that drove Costner away from Yellowstone.

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan had a bad falling out with Kevin Costner, that essentially ended the series’ successful run. However, Sheridan was fully committed to the series which was inspired by all the Western films he saw as a youngster. One film that influenced the Wind River director was the Oscar-winning film Unforgiven. Sheridan approached his icon Clint Eastwood to get permission to use the Unforgiven theme song in one Yellowstone scene.

With a staggering $120 million self-financed budget, Megalopolis features a star-studded cast, including Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Dustin Hoffman, and many others. The film has been a passion project for the director for over two decades.

Don’t call it a premiere, but after decades in the making, Francis Ford Coppola finally unveiled his $120 million epic Megalopolis to a good portion of the Hollywood industry yesterday in Los Angeles in the hopes of securing a buyer. While reviews are of course under wraps until its official, public premiere, the first details are starting to trickle in.
“Having seen Megalopolis we can confirm there’s never been, or ever will be, a director as crazy as Francis Ford Coppola. What a privilege to be on the same planet as him,” the Beyond Fest account tweeted, while Matt Belloni reported an attendee saying, “It’s unflinching in how batshit crazy it is.”

These days Marvel has been doing a pretty poor job of making films, before 2019 the franchise was a powerhouse, constantly delivering cinematic entertainment, with smash-hit box office records; all along with narrating a captivating superhero tale. However, the franchise has faced a steady decline in its popularity because after Avengers: Endgame, only a few films have marked a lasting impact in the minds of its viewers.
Batman and Catwoman in Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One
Nevertheless, the franchise should learn from their rivals, DC as Butch Lukic, the producer of Batman: The Long Halloween shares how they all agreed to come up with the idea of adapting the storyline of The Long Halloween. The film was a massive success, featuring Jensen Ackles lending as the voice behind Bruce Wayne/ Batman in the fan-favorite animated film.

A new report from insider Matt Belloni reveals what factors Disney reportedly believes are contributing to a recent pattern of relative box-office failures.
Since the pandemic, many of Disney's cinematic endeavors (both stand-alone projects and major franchises like the MCU or Indiana Jones) have failed to see the overwhelming success the company had grown used to.
Though they have their fans, projects like Wish and Eternals were not as well-received as Disney may have hoped, which was reflected in their relatively poor box office performances.

The Academy Awards tend to be rather highbrow, as awards shows go. There are almost always some silly gags to try and make the rather stiff ceremony feel a little looser, a little more hip to the times. Sometimes they work and everyone gets a good laugh, and sometimes Ellen DeGeneres tries to take a selfie with every A-lister in sight. At the 96th Annual Academy Awards on March 10, 2023, wrestler/actor John Cena was the butt of one such joke. And the abs. And just about every other body part. In a bit paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of the time a streaker ran across the stage during the Oscar ceremony back in 1974, Cena appeared onstage in ... absolutely nothing, covered only by the envelope holding the name of the award's winner.

The late global sensation Michael Jackson is getting his own musical drama biopic (currently in the works) almost a decade and a half after his death, but even his fans don’t seem to be all too optimistic about it. If anything, fans are more or less expecting the film titled Michael to be doomed just like the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s The Marvels.
Michael Jackson in The Way You Make Me Feel music video
All of this comes after recent reports about the film from insiders, who have stated the reported budget and box office projections of the film. And as much as fans would hate to admit it, the biopic Michael is making the very same mistake that doomed Brie Larson’s 2023 superhero sequel to Captain Marvel: Absurdly overinflated budget and box office projections.

After the successful musician biopics such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Elvis, Rocketman, and Straight Outta Compton, now the King of Pop is also getting a biography of his own.
Michael Jackson will be back on screens again in 2025 with Michael, a biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua. The film will be starring the late pop superstar’s nephew Jaafar Jackson in the lead, which will also be his first major role.

The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic Michael has the approval of his estate and will even star his own nephew, Jaafar Jackson, but according to a new report, it’ll also mark the very first time any estate-affiliated project will address Jackson’s allegations of sexual misconduct — albeit in such a way to cast doubt on his accusers.
According to Puck News’ Matthew Belloni, who obtained an early script of the biopic, the film is quite flattering of Jackson and “wants very much to convince you Michael is innocent.” To that end, it addresses the controversies very directly, even beginning with a depiction of Jackson being raided by police in the aftermath of Jordan Chandler’s allegations in 1993.
As Belloni describes it, the script for Michael — which may be far from the finished product, he noted — goes to “great lengths to minimize and downplay the actual claims and eviscerate the Chandlers.

Far from being in a position to make a big purchase, Wbd could be positioning itself for a potential sale as well.
Warner Bros. Discovery shattered the normally quiet tranquility of the holidays in late December when reports emerged that the company was in talks regarding a possible merger with Paramount Global. According to a new report from CNBC, those talks are now officially dead, as Wbd has walked away from the table following a disastrous fourth quarter 2024 earnings report.
Controlling interest in Paramount is still available, and the company has other potential suitors kicking its tires. Comcast has confirmed that it does not have an interest in acquiring Paramount, but could still work with the company in commercial partnerships. What is the Sundance Film Festival outside of Park City?
Sundance Institute CEO Joanna Vicente has addressed the possibility of a move for the Sundance Film Festival out of Park City, where it has taken place since the early ’80s.
Vicente was the surprise guest at the live-taping of Puck founding partner Matt Belloni‘s Ringer podcast The Town. During the wide-ranging conversation that touched on everything from the Netflix acquisition of Fair Play to the five-year plan for the festival, Belloni asked Vicente about the state of negotiations for staying in Park City.
“Park City is part of Sundance,” Vicente answered. “It’s a beautiful location. It’s kind of remote. We get immersed into the festival.” At that point, Belloni interjected to say, “I feel a but coming,” adding that in his conversations with Uber drivers, restaurant employees and ski industry insiders, “They don’t like Sundance.”

MrBeast is reportedly on the verge of closing a $100 million TV show deal with Amazon Studios.
According to Matthew Belloni at Puck, MrBeast’s team began pitching a TV show to various streaming services last week. Amazon must have been eager to snap it up, because the deal is “now closing,” with Head of Amazon & MGM Studios Jennifer Salke spearheading it, Belloni reports.
A source familiar with the matter told Belloni the deal is worth “nearly $100 million,” but that information isn’t confirmed, and Amazon declined to comment.
The same source said MrBeast’s show will follow the path laid out by his YouTube content: it’ll be an unscripted competition series, presumably one where the winner will walk away with a nice chunk of change and/or some other high-end prize.
The show’s first episode will reportedly air first on MrBeast’s YouTube channel before airing on Prime Video.

Following The Film Stage’s collective top 50 films of 2023, as part of our year-end coverage, our contributors are sharing their personal top 10 lists.
From an industry standpoint, 2023 was eventful. We witnessed concurrent strikes, widespread film festival upheaval, Universal besting Disney at the box office, and much more. (I recommend Matt Belloni’s The Town podcast to keep up with this side of town.) On the indie biz side, this was a year in which I saw two small films succeed utilizing a method I long thought dead (or at least on life support): that being good old-fashioned four-walling. Al Warren’s Dogleg and Case Esparros’ The Absence of Milk in the Mouths of the Lost both captured the momentum of cross-country film touring with in-person Q&As. Distributor Utopia has mounted a similar touring strategy for Sean Price Williams’ directorial debut The Sweet East.

Sony TV dropped Mayim Bialik as Jeopardy! host on Friday (December 15), citing “continuity” for viewers as the reason, though it appears there may have been more behind the firing. In Puck News‘ weekly email digest, “What I’m Hearing,” entertainment journalist and long-time former editorial director of The Hollywood Reporter, Matthew Belloni, alleged that Bialik stepping away from the show in solidarity with the WGA strike this past May played a significant part in her dismissal. Bialik, who shared hosting duties with Ken Jennings, stepped down from the final week of filming last season to support the writers’ strike, meaning Jennings had to fill in for the remaining episodes. Jennings has hosted all syndicated episodes and specials since, including the most recent season of Celebrity Jeopardy! “While Sony insists the parting is to “maintain continuity” for viewers, Bialik’s actions during the strike were at least a contributing factor, according...

But with three major songs vying for awards recognition — Dua Lipa’s disco pop ode “Dance the Night,” Ryan Gosling’s climactic centerpiece “I’m Just Ken” and Billie Eilish’s ballad “What Was I Made For?” — “Barbie” is the obvious pick for an extravagant Oscars musical number.

Warner Bros. has reportedly reversed course on the Coyote vs. Acme movie starring John Cena. According to Puck News, the studio will now allow the filmmakers to shop the project to other distributors after shelving it for a tax write-off just last week.
Puck News’ Matthew Belloni reports that the abrupt decision was made by Warner film executives Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy alongside new head of animation Bill Damaschke after online backlash from Coyote vs. Acme director Dave Green and composer Steven Price, as well as the animation community overall.
Amazon is one of the contenders to pick up Coyote vs. Acme, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Screenings will take place for potential buyers this month.
“For three years, I was lucky enough to make a movie about Wile E. Coyote, the most persistent, passionate, and resilient character of all time,” Green wrote on Twitter about the James Gunn-produced film.

While The Hollywood Reporter has told "Yellowstone" fans to expect a lot less of Kevin Costner's John Dutton in the final episodes of the wildly popular series, Puck's Matthew Belloni is now claiming that the actor may not appear in season 5b at all. Following an excellent hosting job from first-timer Nate Bargatze, which included an all-time-great George Washington sketch, “Saturday Night Live” earned its November 4 off. This week, “SNL” is back with host Timothée Chalamet and musical guest boygenius; it will be the first of two back-to-back originals.
On November 18, Jason Momoa will host “SNL” for the second time, just like Chalamet. (That is exactly where the two actors’ similarities end.) Momoa’s musical guest Tate McRae, like Chalamet’s, is making her debut.
Yes, “SNL” is back to booking big-name actors with big-time projects to (hopefully) promote. The stand-ups and the musicians had their fun. But with a deal between the actors guild (SAG-AFTRA) and the studios seemingly imminent, “SNL” and its table of movie stars appear ready to roll the dice.
As of this writing, SAG-AFTRA is reviewing the AMPTP’s “last, best, and final” offer. The actors strike is in its 116th day.

Peacock didn't include Oppenheimer in its slate for November 2023, leaving fans to wonder when the Christopher Nolan-directed biopic will be available on the streaming service.
Oppenheimer had a stellar run at the box office, with the film earning over $945 million worldwide.
In July 2023, a report from Puck's Matt Belloni claimed that one of the reasons Nolan made the film for Universal Pictures instead of Warner Bros. was mainly due to a commitment of a 120-day theatrical window. This meant that fans would only be able to watch the movie in theaters - not online or on a streaming service - until around Thanksgiving.

If you’ve missed the quirky gang from Dunder Mifflin, you’re not alone. I, too, have been yearning for those days of Jim pranking Dwight and Michael Scott’s cringe-worthy yet endearing moments. And now, it seems there might just be a glimmer of hope for fans like us.
It’s been whispered that our beloved ‘The Office‘ might be returning to TV. The show, which kept us laughing from 2005 to 2013, is more than just a sitcom – it’s a piece of television history with a dedicated following.

Post five-month-long writers’ strike; there’s been talk around the water cooler. Jonathan Handel and Matthew Belloni believe our return to Scranton, Pennsylvania, might be imminent. Their piece in Puck News even hinted at the possibility of the original showrunner, Greg Daniels, coming back to breathe new life into the series.

The people person’s paper people could be returning to a screen near you in the next few years. That’s according to Jonathan Handel and Matthew Belloni of Puck News, who say that Greg Daniels — who was responsible for creating the American version of “The Office” — is currently working on a reboot of the NBC comedy.
There were few details available on the project, as it appears to still be in the planning stages. Those plans will be able to continue soon, as Daniels and other Hollywood writers will likely be able to get back to work in the coming weeks. Writers have been pencils-down since May 1 when the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike, but a tentative agreement struck over the weekend with producers means that they could be back to work soon.

A reboot of “The Office” is reportedly in the works from series co-creator Greg Daniels, according to Puck journalist Matthew Belloni.
In his Sunday newsletter about what may happen in the wake of the WGA strike coming to an end, Belloni cautioned that once the ratification of the WGA’s deal with the AMPTP happens there will be a “stampede” that revolves around “every show and movie fighting for the same resources as studios try to salvage their 2024 slates.”
“We’re also about to see a firehose of announcements of projects and castings that have been held back for fear of bad optics or violating guild rules. Greg Daniels is set to do a reboot of ‘The Office,’ for instance,” Belloni wrote. “Disney’s Dana Walden will finally be able to announce the return of her Bff Ryan Murphy from Netflix. A ton of high-profile movie scripts will come in.
