With fans eagerly awaiting word on a potential third installment, the Spider-Verse is in disarray following the recent report on Andrew Garfield’s involvement in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. According to insider sources, the chances of the Tick, Tick… Boom! star reprising his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in a solo film are looking very slim.
While many were hopeful that Garfield would don the iconic red and blue suit once again for the potential The Amazing Spider-Man 3, it seems that the stars may not align for the Los Angeles-born actor. The news has alarmed fans, who fear that their favorite iteration of the web-slinger may be left behind in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Every Sex and the City fan will instantly recognize two high-wattage looks up for sale in the latest event presented by Julien’s Auctions — one piece worn onscreen by series star and executive producer Sarah Jessica Parker — as they’ve transcended the function of costumes or fashion to become part of the show’s enduring iconography.
“Unstoppable: Signature Styles of Iconic Women in Fashion” is indeed an apt title for an upcoming auction that includes the three-tiered belted tutu skirt worn by Parker in Satc‘s opening credits (and again in the 2008 movie). The skirt was famously purchased by the show’s costume designer, Patricia Field, who discovered the piece in a $5 bargain bin and fashioned it into one of the most-recognized looks in the series.

Antonio Marras’ catwalk transformed into a set where he shot a remake of a 1968 Hollywood movie. During Milan Fashion Week on Sept. 20, the Sardinian fashion designer set up an onstage film studio, with various rooms in which actors, actresses, workers, divas, a production secretary, costume designer, editing secretary, personal assistant, seamstress, director, producer, set coordinator, clapboard operator, sound engineer, extras, models and aspiring actresses took turns in the spotlight. In a flash, the audience found itself catapulted to the end of the golden years of cinema, amid fleeting and rambling kaftans, couture gowns, robes, tailored suits cinched at the waist with masculine styles, duster coats, sheath dresses, and dramatic and divine evening gowns.

The BAFTA Children and Young People Awards have been rebranded and will be incorporated into the annual film, games and television ceremonies.
The org’s support for the children’s media industry and its year-round learning programs will now take place under a new brand, Young BAFTA. New categories for children’s content will be introduced to BAFTA’s film, games and television Awards in 2025. This initiative will be steered by a new cross-industry Young BAFTA advisory group.
“The move to present children’s awards in the annual film, games and television BAFTAs is an evolution of the former Children and Young People awards ceremony which has seen a consistent drop in entries and engagement in recent years. The ceremony last took place in November 2022 after a two-year pause,” BAFTA said in a statement.

Even after reaching #1, the current U.S. chart leader has bigger goals on his mind.

Lin-Manuel Miranda reportedly has set his sights on his next musical for the stage. The multiple Tony and Grammy award winner is adapting a stage musical version of The Warriors, based on Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel that was later turned into the 1979 action thriller film directed by Walter Hill, according to the New York Post‘s Johnny Oleksinski.
The project would be Miranda’s first full stage musical since his global phenom Hamilton, winner of 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, in 2016..
The Warriors is a familiar setting for New York City native Miranda. The film centers on a fictitious New York City street gang who must travel 30 miles, from the north end of the Bronx to their home turf in Coney Island in southern Brooklyn, after they are framed for the murder of a respected gang leader.

In June 2023, 80 of the 100 most-watched U.S.-based YouTube channels operated primarily on Shorts. But the leaders of the pack were channels that were able to offer both short-form and long-form clips.
YouTube must be happy: The multiformat approach it has preached is showing results.

For the #1 channel in the U.S. Top 100, the multiformat label is a bit misleading. DaFuq!?Boom! has added long-form content to its mix after breaking out on Shorts, but most of those one-minute-plus clips are compilations of its shorter stuff. No matter what format DaFuq!?Boom! uses, it focuses on one meme in particular: Skibidi Toilet.

In the history of casual comments that sound like they could mark the end of civilization, there’s a staggering contender in “The New Americans: Gaming a Revolution” — all the more so because it comes from an investor who sounds reasonably intelligent. The movie, the latest documentary provocation written and directed by Ondi Timoner, is about the new era of lone stock traders — many, though not all of them, millennials — who grew up playing video games and now experience investing at home as a literal extension of that thrill-a-minute world. The new trading apps, designed as visual candy, are meant to give you the rush that gamers get (and also the high that people seek out from slot machines). Trying to sum up the lizard-brain appeal of it all, an investor named Mitchell Hennessey explains, “Even if you lose on the trade, confetti pops up, and it almost feels like you’re leveling up.

John Williams said he was scoring Steven Spielberg’s “deep wound” as a child of divorce in “The Fabelmans.” In an interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt airing Wednesday, the legendary composer said that many children “suffer greatly” from the familial displacement.
“I imagine that a great number of children suffer greatly from divorce, from parents,” Williams told Holt in an exclusive clip shared with TheWrap. “There may be some that are relieved of a great … tense situation. But … for Steven, that was a deep wound, I think it’s fair to say.”

Netflix may not have a big superhero franchise, but they are absolutely in the comic book adaptation business. To that end, the streaming service is currently developing a TV show based on the best-selling Boom! Studios comic "Something Is Killing The Children." The series, which comes from writer James Tynion IV ("Batman") and artist Werther Dell'Edera ("Punisher War Journal") has been met with widespread acclaim, as well as massive sales numbers rarely seen outside of Marvel and DC Comics. That being the case, it's the perfect title to become a big streaming series.
The book was originally published in 2019 and was nominated for an Eisner, ultimately paving the way for the series to become an ongoing title, rather than the five-issue miniseries it was originally intended as. Boom! has also since published a spin-off titled "House of Slaughter," which also saw huge sales upon release. That being the case, there...

Will Smith is now the reigning king of Best Actor, winning the Oscar for “King Richard.” (See the complete Oscars winners list.) His transformative performance as Richard Williams, the father/mentor of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams, netted him a win over some tough competition: Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Power of the Dog”), Andrew Garfield and two previous Oscar winners, Javier Bardem (“Being the Ricardos”) and Denzel Washington (“The Tragedy of Macbeth”).
Smith’s win was overshadowed by what happened earlier in the evening, when he slapped Chris Rock in the face on live TV for making a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. “I want to apologize to the academy,” an emotional Smith stated in his acceptance speech (watch above). “I look like the crazy father, just what they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things … I hope the academy invites me back.

Another breakout star from Euphoria has joined the Sony Spider-Man universe, this time with Sydney Sweeney. Has the studio found their Spider-Gwen or Black Cat?
“Deadline shared yesterday that Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney would be joining Dakota Johnson in Sony Pictures’ Madame Web, but there’s no word yet as to which character in the Spider-Man universe she will be. In the comics, Madame Web has been depicted as an elderly woman named Cassandra Webb, with clairvoyant and precognitive mutant abilities that she uses to ‘help’ Spider-Man. I put help in quotes because she’s a sassy lady and sometimes painfully vague.”

It appears Samuel L. Jackson is on a quest to be in more Marvel movies than anyone as the actor is apparently filming three different MCU projects all at once.

More often than not, the Screen Actors Guild honors lead male film portrayals of real people over those of fictional characters. From Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln (“Lincoln”) to Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury (“Bohemian Rhapsody”), there have been six such examples over the last decade. Now, those odds could work in favor of current nominee Will Smith, who has earned his second individual SAG notice for starring as enterprising tennis coach Richard Williams in “King Richard.”
Smith’s competitors in this year’s Best Actor race are Javier Bardem (“Being the Ricardos”), Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Power of the Dog”), Andrew Garfield, and Denzel Washington (“The Tragedy of Macbeth”). When the nominations for the 94th Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday, February 8, “The Power of the Dog” came out on top with a total of 12 bids. It landed everywhere we thought it would and even surprised us by garnering notices for its production design and sound as well as one for Jesse Plemons’s supporting performance.
The good news is that, over the last 10 years, nominations leaders have ended up with an average of three wins apiece. However, the only two to have nabbed the elusive Best Picture prize in that time are “Birdman” (2015) and “The Shape of Water” (2018). Last year’s most-recognized film, “Mank” (10 bids) lost the top honor to “Nomadland” (six).
Following “The Power of the Dog” on this year’s list of most-nominated films is “Dune” with 10 bids. Next are a pair of seven-time nominees: “Belfast” and “West Side Story.” “King Richard” is right behind with six.

And the nominees are…
Like everyone else, we won’t know the official answers until Tuesday morning, when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences reveals the results of the member voting that took place from Jan. 27 through Feb. 1. But judging from TheWrap’s own survey of Academy members, we’re expecting it to be a pretty good day for Andrew Garfield and Olivia Colman — and maybe a surprising one for Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Over the last couple of weeks, TheWrap has been conducting an anonymous poll of more than 300 industry players — AMPAS voters and other guild members — asking them which films, performers and directors were most deserving of awards love this year. In a season with few clear front runners — and no Golden Globes to speak of to throw off some hints — the race has been unusually wide open. But based on these poll results, some potential patterns are perhaps emerging,...

Ever since “The Life of Emile Zola” became the first film to win Oscars for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor (Joseph Schildkraut) in 1938, occurrences of films receiving nominations in both categories have been rather common. Of the 511 features that have contended for the top honor since the supporting awards were first bestowed 86 years ago, 194 (38%) have had at least one performance by a featured male cast member recognized as well. In that time, the double victory initiated by “The Life of Emile Zola” has been replicated by 16 more films, from “How Green Was My Valley” to “Green Book”.
A fair amount of these nearly 200 performances were considered surprise nominees. Some actors, such as Max von Sydow and Jonah Hill were previously thought of as longshots after missing major precursors, while others, like Lakeith Stanfield, truly came from out of the blue. Since all three of these men appeared in Best Picture contenders,...

In 1940, “Gone with the Wind” made Oscars history by conquering eight competitive categories, thereby smashing the record for most wins for a single film previously held by “It Happened One Night”. It was an achievement that stood for two decades until “Ben-Hur” raised the bar to its current height of 11 in 1960. By taking home an award for her work, featured cast member Hattie McDaniel established herself as the first Best Supporting Actress champ from a Best Picture-winning film. This particular dual triumph has since been repeated by 12 more films, from “Mrs. Miniver” to “12 Years a Slave”.
A whopping 511 films have vied for Best Picture since the supporting categories were introduced in 1937, and 172 (34%) of them have had at least one featured female performance recognized as well. A significant number of women in this group were viewed as surprise nominees who made it in on the coattails of their respective films,...

“When you’re doing movie musicals, you’re involved about six weeks ahead of time so you are infused into the community of filmmakers,” says Netflix’s “tick, tick… Boom!” production sound mixer Tod A. Maitland about the integral role he plays on musical films. “I just love movie musicals, I think that it’s a great energy on set,” he continues, noting how due to the nature of song, “I am a much more integral part of the process.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
One of the benefits of having such early involvement in the production is Maitland’s ability to “choose microphones for the actors.” “I actually do a whole test with the actors with lavalier microphones and find the one that matches best to my boom microphone and then that microphone matches best to the studio microphone,” he shares. On “tick, tick… Boom!” in particular, Maitland...
