Sex & Nudity

  • A woman is shown giving birth. She is covered with a sheet and no body parts are visible. The doctor holds up a naked baby boy (seen from a distance).

  • A monkey's tail is chopped off. We hear the animal scream, and there is a shot of the tail wriggling on the floor.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A family, including an infant, is shown trapped in a burning building. This scene is prolonged and intense, although everyone escapes safely.
  • The skeletons of two women are show seated in chairs as if they are alive. It is implied that these women were deliberately starved to death. A man causes the skeletons' heads to topple off. He then pretends to kiss one of the skulls.
  • A man commits suicide by allowing himself to be torn apart and devoured by owls. His death is shown but is not graphic.
  • A man suffers an episode of madness/senility in front of his daughter, distressing the girl.
  • The head cook is implied to abuse the children in his care. He is shown sharpening a cleaver, then using it to slash a side of beef, which drips blood. He says he is "practising" to murder another character.
  • A girl is struck by lightning and dies.
  • A girl commits suicide by jumping from a window into a river. Her body is shown sinking.
