Clint Eastwood is arguably one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, along with having a highly successful acting career. Few actors have had such glorious directing careers and Ben Affleck and George Clooney are two names that come close to stature Eastwood built for himself in Hollywood.

Ben Affleck and George Clooney have shared the honor of playing DC’s Batman on the big screen at different points in their career. However, when it comes to one world record, neither of the duo holds a candle in front of Eastwood. The veteran director holds one very unique Oscars record, which Affleck and Clooney will find hard to beat.

This Fall, Academy Award winning superstars George Clooney (Ocean's Eleven; Up in the Air; Gravity) and Brad Pitt (Fight Club; Bullet Train; Babylon) reunite for the first time in sixteen years for director Jon Watts' next film, the action-comedy Wolfs.
Sony Pictures Releasing and Apple Studios have launched the film's official trailer, which previews one of this fall's most exciting releases as the actors play a pair of fixers who find themselves partnered up on a job that gets wilder and wilder by the minute.
In the film, "Clooney plays a professional fixer hired to cover up a high profile crime. But when a second fixer (Pitt) shows up and the two “lone wolves” are forced to work together, they find their night spiraling out of control in ways that neither one of them expected."

George Clooney has "more fun" being behind the camera than in front of it.The 62-year-old Hollywood star made his directional debut with 2002's 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind' and he's back in the director's chair for sports drama 'The Boys in the Boat' and has admitted he loves being in charge. He told 'Sky News': "It's more fun, you have a lot more control. I get to boss them around and I don't have to learn how to row."It's fun to come in in the morning and it's fun to write a screenplay and then have somebody build a set that you wrote, it really is."The 'Tickets to Paradise' actor admits he's fortunate to get to do the things he loves so late in his career. He said: "As you get older, you need to have other things to do."You can't just do one thing.

In Steven Soderbergh's sexy 1998 crime thriller, George Clooney plays the world's smoothest bank robber, Jack Foley, a man so charming that he manages to rob a bank using nothing more than a yellow highlighter. Foley begins "Out of Sight" in prison, having been busted after someone snitched on him. He bonds with imprisoned compatriots -- notably, Albert Brooks -- and the two of them arrange for Jack to get a job upon his release. When released, however, Jack is double-crossed by the Brooks character, and he is ejected from the building with no job. The rejection leads Jack, in a fit of resentment, to commit the above-mentioned robbery. He is caught, and put right back in prison.
Clooney, a handsome man sculpted out of hardened cologne, makes his yellow prison jumpsuits look downright dashing, while his silvering hair swoop and five o'clock shadow are impeccably maintained behind bars. Some...

For a while it seemed like George Clooney was his generation’s heir apparent to Cary Grant, a bona fide movie star whose limited range is rendered irrelevant by his irrepressible charisma. And then he started directing films and, at least out of the gate things seemed momentarily more interesting. His 2002 directorial debut, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, came on breezy but grounded, certainly the most approachable take on a Charlie Kaufman screenplay ever mounted. And 2005’s Good Night, and Good Luck, his tribute to the mandarin days of television news, was at least palpably committed to lionizing Eisenhower-era liberal resistance. In other words, he looked to become the heir apparent to Robert Redford, auteur.
It didn’t last. The title of Clooney’s The Monuments Men, just about sums it up. His obsession with what he perceives as the achievements and moral clarity of those (read: Americans) who lived...

George Clooney’s directing career has been one of both ecstasy and agony. His bold, respected spy dramedy debut (Confessions of a Dangerous Mind) was immediately followed by the incredibly lauded (and incredibly great) period drama Good Night and Good Luck. What followed was a run of more mixed fare. One film was ambitious and flawed (The Midnight Sky), one overrated (The Ides of March), one undercooked (Leatherheads), and two really didn’t work. Then came The Tender Bar in 2021, a modest piece of work featuring nuanced performances from an impressive cast. It’s an old-fashioned picture starring Ben Affleck, who offers many old-fashioned, matinee idol charms, square jaw and all. Perhaps Clooney learned something about himself as a filmmaker with The Tender Bar: he may be at his best when breathing life into fact-based drama and not trying to be too cute about it.

George Clooney officially has eight directorial features under his belt, with the ninth, The Boys in the Boat, rowing towards a December 25th release. And it was with that movie that Clooney faced perhaps his most unique challenge yet: directing remotely.
It was during filming on The Boys in the Boat — which began in March 2022 (the project has been in development for quite some time) — that George Clooney caught Covid for the first time. But production couldn’t just stop and so he had to direct from an iPad. Speaking with People, Clooney remembered one scene with Callum Turner, who plays Olympian rower Joe Rantz. “I’m on an iPad hacking away from my bedroom…[co-producer Grant [Heslov] was sitting on the camera and they’d hold up the iPad to Cal and I’d go, ‘Ah, go fast.’ I’d rasp out ‘Faster’ whatever that was.” While this didn’t result in the best direction,...

Once upon a time, Roger Ebert held that "no movie featuring either Harry Dean Stanton or M. Emmet Walsh in a supporting role can be altogether bad." The Stanton-Walsh rule could be violated, as Ebert noted in his scathing review of the unfathomably awful "Wild Wild West," but you only did yourself a favor if you cast one of these gentlemen. The script could be dire and the direction poor, but an appearance from Stanton and/or Walsh was/is – we lost Stanton in 2017, but Walsh is still going strong at 88 years old — only ever a joyous occasion.
The Stanton-Walsh rule applies to other character actors, and I can't think of many performers who've given me more pleasure over the last few decades than Sam Rockwell. He first popped for me in Tom Dicillo's hugely underrated indie comedy "Box of Moonlight" as a ball of non-conformist energy who...

Chuck Barris, who hosted such gleefully trashy TV hits as The Gong Show and The $1.98 Beauty Show back in the 1970s, was an interesting man, to say the least. He once worked on American Bandstand. He wrote a song that made the Top 5 during the peak of Beatlemania. He created The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game in the ’60s. And the rumor, of course, was that Barris had been a CIA assassin at various times in different parts of the world. That claim was part of his autobiography, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, which George Clooney turned into a movie in 2002. Though Barris was still alive at the time (he died in 2017 at the age of 87), Clooney told us he never asked Barris whether the CIA claims were true. Charlie Kaufman’s (animated) existential ode to overcoming fears is finally here.
“Orion and the Dark,” written by Kaufman and adapted from a YA novel, follows anxiety-ridden elementary schooler Orion (voiced by Jacob Tremblay) as he tries to cope with being afraid of the dark — which actually becomes a physical entity played by Paul Walter Hauser. The Dark whisks Orion away to a land filled with all of his fears, including clowns, fireworks, and ghouls. A “Monsters Inc.”-style movie, Orion befriends the things he is afraid of most, and conquers his anxiety.
Animator Sean Charmatz marks his feature directorial debut with the DreamWorks and Netflix film, based on Emma Yarlett’s novel of the same name. Variety previously reported that a Werner Herzog cameo could be in the works for the animated film.
Peter McCown produces the film with Walt Dohrn and Bonnie Arnold serving as executive producers. “Orion and the Dark...

An inspirational true story turned into a bestselling novel is about to make its way to the big screen. That tends to be the natural playbook for these sorts of dramas, but this one in particular comes loaded with an extra amount of star power.
Based on author Daniel James Brown's book of the same name, "The Boys in the Boat" tells the well-documented events surrounding the 1936 Summer Olympics and the feats accomplished by the US men's rowing team from the University of Washington. As with other incredibly underdog stories, the stories of the individuals involved -- all of whom were working class athletes struggling to come out the other side of the Great Depression, almost rivals the magnitude of their achievements.

ITV's free streaming service continues to serve up a selection of quality films, including this black and white dissection on 1950s journalism. It marked the second time George Clooney had sat in the director's chair for a feature after Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind and proved he was a force to be reckoned with, netting six Oscar nominations. The screenplay, written by Clooney and Grant Heslov, charts the real-life on-air clash between Senator Joseph McCarthy and early broadcast journalist Edward R Murrow (David Strathairn). Although a historical drama the film had plenty to say about the current affairs of the period in which it was made and arguably also reflects America's recent Trumpian moment. With its impeccably presented adult themes and strong performances from a heavy-weight ensemble cast including Patricia Clarkson, Robert Downey Jnr and Frank Langella.

Hollywood megastar George Clooney has come out in support of SAG-AFTRA and its 160,000-strong membership as the performers union takes to picket lines.

Update: I have rightly been called out for listing Braveheart as Mel Gibson’s first film when he actually directed a film prior to that called The Man Without a Face in 1993. So I guess the results are slightly skewed, but really, wasn’t Braveheart the first Mel Gibson directed film we all saw?!

As an actor, you can count on George Clooney to deliver the goods -- whether that means flashing that legendary, mischievous smile of his, or buttoning down the charm to play a more conflicted and possibly amoral character. As a director, however, you can never be too sure which Clooney you're going to get. There's the one who gave us the fascinating "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" and the riveting "Good Night, and Good Luck." Then there's the one behind the political thriller "The Ides of March" and the apocalyptic survival drama "The Midnight Sky," both of which have their merits but are hurt by weak stories. Finally, we have the Clooney who helmed stuff like "The Monuments Men" and "Suburbicon," which are baffling misfires given the wealth of talent involved in making them.

Earlier this year, the wild success of “Top Gun: Maverick” led to a lot of articles in the media hailing Tom Cruise as the last true box office star in an era of Hollywood defined by IP-centric franchises. But this weekend’s box office results showed that’s not entirely true.
Whether it was the 67 million opening of “Black Adam,” a blockbuster from one of the film industry’s most well-known comic-book franchises, or the more modest 16 million opening of Universal’s romcom “Ticket to Paradise,” moviegoer interest in seeing those films’ respective lead stars — Dwayne Johnson, George Clooney and Julia Roberts — was key to driving ticket sales.
“Black Adam” was the latest attempt by Warner Bros. to introduce one of DC’s lesser-known characters to a wider audience, something that has seen mixed results in recent years. “Shazam!” and “Aquaman” were successful in spawning sequels — with the latter using...

On their own, they are among Hollywood’s best loved stars. Together, George Clooney and Julia Roberts — who play ex-spouses reunited in Bali for their daughter’s wedding in Ticket to Paradise, out Oct. 21 — have lit up the screen a few times.
Most recently was in 2016’s Money Monster, a Jodie Foster-helmed thriller about a cable news star taken hostage in his studio (Clooney is the star, Roberts his producer). Both had small parts in 2002’s Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Clooney’s directorial debut. But their first — and, to date, most memorable — pairing came in 2001’s Ocean’s Eleven.
The Steven Soderbergh remake was loosely based on the Rat Pack film from 1960. In the modern version, Clooney plays Danny Ocean, a thief recently released from prison who wastes no time planning his next heist, simultaneously targeting the Bellagio, Mirage and MGM Grand casinos in Las Vegas.

Julia Roberts and George Clooney's friendship is one for the books. The pair, who met on the set of their 2001 movie "Ocean's Eleven," affectionately opened up about their 22-year-long bond in an Oct. 18 interview with People, revealing how they've managed to remain close over the years.
"This was just easy," Clooney said of forming their early friendship, and Roberts agreed. "That's how it felt with George," she said. "You just kind of go, 'All right' . . . He's one of my people now."
Of sharing similar traits with Roberts, Clooney added: "Listen, the thing about Julia, one of the many great qualities, is she is consistent in her loyalty and in her friendship and in her kindness. I think we enjoy the same things. We love the work, but we don't make the work our entire life." "We have a similar approach to life," Roberts agreed, adding that their friendship hasn't changed much over the years.

George Clooney and Julia Roberts hit the multiplex this weekend in Ol Parker’s romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise, a project that marks the pair’s sixth big-screen collaboration.
The Universal Pictures film casts the pair as exes who find themselves on a shared mission to Bali to stop their lovestruck daughter, played by Kaitlyn Dever, from making the same mistake they once made. After so many outings together, an easy question to toss to Clooney and Roberts: What’s the best part about working together?
“The money. Cash,” Clooney joked to The Hollywood Reporter on Monday night while standing next to Roberts on the pink carpet outside Westwood’s Regency Village Theatre, host of the U.S. premiere.

Drew says Clooney acted as her “therapist,” and said he was protective of her.

George Clooney and Julia Roberts have been making movies together for more than two decades now, first sharing the screen in 2001’s “Ocean’s Eleven,” and re-teaming for “Ocean’s Twelve,” “Money Monster,” and the Clooney-directed “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” (though they shared no scenes). Yet it’s not just their shared charisma and charm that accounts for so much of what works in their new movie “Ticket to Paradise.” It’s that we now, as an audience, have a relationship with them, so we’re pulling for them in a way we don’t when a random Disney personality and Instagram influencer are potentially paired in a new Netflix rom-com.

Arizona will hand out up to 125 million a year in tax breaks to Hollywood, joining the ranks of just a handful of states with nine-figure caps in their incentive programs.
Under a program that Gov. Doug Ducey allowed to become law Wednesday without his signature, productions that shoot in Arizona will be eligible for a refundable tax credit of 15 to 20 percent of expenses. The Arizona Motion Picture Production Program will start at 75 million in 2023 and grow to 125 million by 2025.
To qualify, producers must use an Arizona production facility or, if the project is primarily filmed on location, must mostly shoot and conduct pre- and postproduction in the state. The program features a tiered credit system: productions that spend less than 10 million will get a base tax credit of 15 percent, while those that spend more than 35 million will get 20 percent. Thanks to his wealthy family in law, he can put some strings and gets out of prison until it comes to trial. Together with a famous attorney, Yang Shin-ae, Yoo wants to proof he’s not the culprit.

“Ticket to Paradise,” a forthcoming romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and George Clooney is exactly the type of movie people always talk about missing. The cross-generational, Bali-set romp is for grown-ups, it isn’t based on anything, and its budget at least could be small.
In an effort to get audiences to recognize just how big a deal this thing is, Roberts is banging the drum well in advance of its late October (New York Film Festival?) release. Speaking with The New York Times to promote her new Starz series “Gaslit,” she said that she hasn’t been avoiding rom-coms for 20 years, it’s just that there haven’t been any offers.
“If I had read something that I thought was that ‘Notting Hill’ level of writing or ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ level of madcap fun, I would do it,” she said. “Ticket To Paradise,” written and directed by Ol Parker,...

Some films are nearly impossible to imagine in anything other than black-and-white. For example, in the case of "Schindler's List," Steven Spielberg shot his harrowing Holocaust drama as though he were a journalist recording the movie's events for the sake of posterity, its monochrome palette inseparable from the real-life historical horrors it depicts.
The same goes for 2005's "Good Night, and Good Luck," a dramatization of radio and TV journalist Edward R. Sono Sion, the self-proclaimed maverick Japanese film director known for raunchy indie movies including “Love Exposure” and “Antiporno,” has been accused of sexual harassment by several actresses in Japan’s film industry.
The accusations were published Monday by the Shukan Josei Prime entertainment news and gossip site. In a lengthy article, several actresses made accusations against Sono under the protection of anonymity. According to the piece, Sono, now aged 60, boasted of making sexual advances to “most of [his] leading ladies.” Sono’s alleged predatory practices have been linked to his acting workshops.

While George Clooney has vacillated from acting to directing for two decades now, starting with 2002’s “Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind,” the actor/director has really picked up the pace in the last few years. Since 2017, he’s directed three films, “Suburbicon” (2017), “The Midnight Sky” (2020), and “The Tender Bar” (2021). And at his current rate, he’ll have had three films out in three years if this new project pans out like it will.

Exclusive: Oliver Trevena has signed on to star alongside Aaron Eckhart and Nina Dobrev in the action-thriller, The Bricklayer, which is heading into production in Europe next month.
In the film from director Renny Harlin, based on the novel by Noah Boyd, someone is blackmailing the CIA by assassinating foreign journalists and making it look like the agency is responsible. As the world begins to unite against the U.S., the CIA must lure its most brilliant – and rebellious – operative out of retirement, forcing him to confront his checkered past while unraveling an international conspiracy.
Hanna Weg and Matt Johnson penned the script. G-Base’s Alan Siegel, Butler and Danielle Robinson are producing with Eclectic Pictures’ Heidi Jo Markel, and Millennium Media’s Jeffrey Greenstein, Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger, Yariv Lerner and Rob Van Norden. Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson and Tanner Mobley from Millennium are serving as exec producers.

What makes a movie “Oscar-worthy”? The most cynical answer to this question is that it comes down to campaigning, but the more troubling one goes one step further: The Oscars are a popularity contest, and the strongest candidates speed to the front of the pack simply because they’re overdue for the recognition.
The Academy, which wraps up its first round of voting this week, should consider the impulses behind each vote — especially when it comes to the four performance categories, where familiar faces often benefit the most from aggressive campaigns. Should the Oscars reward actors for taking the craft in exciting new directions — or should they do it for the sake of entitled movie stars who want validation and cred?
That seemed to be the logic of George Clooney’s case for his pal Ben Affleck’s supporting turn in “The Tender Bar.” In an interview last week with Deadline,...

Stars: Colm Meaney, Stephen Moyer, Clare-Hope Ashitey, Kris Johnson, Sadie Jean Shirley | Written and Directed by David Beton
Much of the pre-release discussion about Confession, (not to be confused with the 2020 serial killer film of the same name) centred on its stars Colm Meaney and Stephen Moyer. And although they both are excellent actors, that wasn’t why I decided to review it.
I was more interested in writer/director David Beton, Aka Ronnie Thompson. As Ronnie Thompson, he’d directed, but not written, the tense thriller Tower Block. And as David Beton, he’d co-written, but not directed, The Banishing, an enjoyable ghost story that also had significant religious content. I was curious to see what he could do filling both roles.
After a rather cryptic prologue, we join Father Peter (Meaney) as he’s wrapping up his duties for the evening. That’s interrupted by a knock on the door,...

"It's too late for me... I'm already dead." Uncork'd Ent. has revealed the trailer for a UK action thriller titled Confession, from filmmaker David Beton. This one is arriving in theaters + on VOD in the US starting in January, despite not picking up any buzz before this debut. One church, one priest, a wounded man and his loaded gun. An intense thriller that plays out in real time during one night where a vengeful confession must take place. Starring Stephen Moyer & Colm Meaney, with Clare-Hope Ashitey, Kris Johnson, and Sadie Jean Shirley. "Confession is a very suspenseful, thrilling ride with terrific performances from two always-dependable performers, Moyer and Meaney." This looks like an engaging battle of wits, as the three people inside this church confront and accuse each other back & forth to the end. It might be worth a watch. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for David Beton's Confession,...
