Horror fans have been looking forward to seeing Mike Flanagan's Before I Wake since the film was teased in trailers back in 2015, but bankruptcy issues at Relativity Media delayed and ultimately brought the movie's release to a halt. Since that time, Flanagan directed two well-received films for Netflix, and the streaming service has now revealed that they will bring Before I Wake out of film purgatory and into the warm glow of the TV screen.
Netflix revealed the exciting Before I Wake news in their full announcement of titles being added to their streaming lineup in January of 2018. Starring Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane, and Kate Bosworth, Before I Wake will be available to watch on the streaming service beginning Friday, January 5th, marking its first official release in the Us (it was previously released internationally, including in the UK by Netflix).

Say this for 2018: It can’t be any worse than 2017, right? (Spoiler: It totally can.) At least Netflix’s first batch of offerings inspires cautious optimism in the new year, with everything from the entire “Godfather” trilogy, “Marie Antoinette,” five different “Batman” films and five different “Bring It On” movies (did you even know they’d made that many?), “Midnight in Paris,” the complete “Lethal Weapon” collection, “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” and “The Truman Show” coming to the streaming service in January.

As for Netflix Originals, there are several: “Before I Wake” and “Rotten” are both available to stream as of January 5, “Somebody Feed Phil” and “The Polka King” premiere a week later, “The Open House” arrives on the 19th, and “A Futile and Stupid Gesture” and “Dirty Money” both debut on the 26th.

Hey, "Grey's Anatomy" fans. We've got some extra great news for you guys that we think you'll certainly enjoy hearing. Recently, the folks over at Deadline recently put out a report revealing that ABC is so pleased with the way the current season 14 is going that they decided to extend it! That's right. Apparently, ABC only originally ordered 22 episodes for this season, but now they've bumped that number up to a full 24. That means you guys can expect to get an additional two more episodes before this season is over. How do you guys feel about that? We're sure most of you are ecstatic about it. In addition to ABC extending out Grey's Anatomy's 14th season, Deadline also reported that ABC gave their hit comedy series "Black-ish" another two episodes, and they gave their show American Housewife another two episodes. That gave both of those series a total 24 episodes each.

Hey, "Grey's Anatomy" fans. We've got some very interesting new casting news for you guys in regards to this current season 14. Recently, the folks over at Entertainment Weekly put out a new article revealing that the show has hired former"One Tree Hill" actress Bethany Joy Lenz. If any of you were "One Tree Hill" fans, you'll remember her as the one who played character Haley James Scott on that show. Entertainment Weekly pointed out that this new casting comes just after they got rid of season regular Martin Henderson aka Dr. Nathan Riggs. Bethany is scheduled to just be a guest character on Grey's Anatomy. So, it doesn't sound like she'll be sticking around for long. She might come in and do an arc that spans a few episodes and then head out. But, who knows? Anything can happen. She might stick around the whole season if they decide its better for the show.

There are now a staggering four sequels to 2000's feelgood cheerleading hit Bring It On, but are they any good?
This article contains spoilers for the assorted Bring It On movies.

2000’s Bring It On is a very odd duck.
It’s not that the film is particularly innovative about how it spins its narrative – there’s a pretty standard set of beats in place for a sports movie – but traditionally, sports movies don’t tend to have a predominantly female cast (and even something like A League Of Their Own was somewhat led by Tom Hanks). Not only that, it’s a movie with a predominately female cast that isn’t entirely focused on love or romance.

Over the years, sequels have gotten a bad rap for representing lack of originality in film making. These are some examples of such films that didn't exactly exude creativity.
Coming up with ideas for movies is hard. Coming up with ideas for sequels can be even more challenging. That's why so many of them rely on what has been done before. As an example of this phenomenon, here are ten films that are boarderline remakes:
The Gimmick Films: There are many movies out there that relied on a gimmick in order to fill theater seats. For some of those films, the gimmick worked so well that the film was a hit. What does Hollywood do with its hits? Make sequels of course! And what does Hollywood do with sequels for a gimmick film? Use the same gimmick again (with just a few minor changes)! Why mess with success….right?

While James Wan is putting on his blockbuster shoes in a very big way with the upcoming, possibly Oscar winning "Furious 7," before he signed up to the gasoline smelling franchise, he was attached to direct the big screen version of television's most handy hero, "MacGyver." Wan wound up making "Furious 7" instead, moving on from that reboot, and while there was a script in place by Jason Richman ("Swing Vote," "Bangkok Dangerous"), which was rewritten by Brian and Mark Gunn ("Bring It On Again," "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island"), the director has shared his own pretty wild concept for the "MacGyver" he wanted to make. “...my initial concept was I wanted to do a young college MacGyver who went to Boston, one of the great universities, who’s really brilliant, right? He’s a really smart guy but he’s so smart he could never feel like he fit into a construct,...

Well, Aunt Patty and Aunt Selma are going to be thrilled. While it might seem new, a movie about "MacGyver" has been brewing for years (at one point, the show's creator tried to sue to stop the release of "MacGruber") but it's now kicking back to life. Variety reports that New Line is so jazzed about "Insidious" and "Saw" director James Wan's upcoming "The Conjuring," they've given him the keys to the TV property for a feature length treatment. And that's really the whole of the news at this point. It's not clear if the 62 year-old Richard Dean Anderson will reprise his role (we don't see that happening, but a supporting or cameo turn, sure) and what the tone of the movie will be. There is a script by Jason Richman ("Swing Vote," "Bangkok Dangerous") that was recently given a once over by Brian and Mark Gunn ("Bring It On Again,...

In 2008, Josh Hutcherson starred in a rape of the classic Jules Verne novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. This week he returns for sloppy seconds in an almost completely unrelated vehicle, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, aka The Death of Michael Caine's Career. Hutcherson's character Sean Anderson is the only common thread connecting the two films as he again goes in search of a missing family member trapped in a 3D theme-park caricature of a Jules Verne environment.
This time it is Sean's grandfather, perhaps the worst role ever written for Michael Caine, who has sent a secret radio message from Verne's Mysterious Island. Joined unwillingly by his stepfather Hank (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), Sean sets out for a weekend round-the-world trip of adventure and male bonding. Along the way they pick up down-on-his-luck pilot and single parent Gabato (Luis Guzman) and his daughter Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens...

Gotta gotta love Hollywood. They’re not just in love with sequels, they’re in love with making sequels bad. So when they take a just barely inoffensive little kiddie action flick such as Journey to the Center of the Earth and give it another whirl, they’re sure to put the right talent on it. Such as director Brad Peyton. He’s not the guy they got to helm ordinary crap like Cats & Dogs -- he’s the guy they got to helm the followup megacrap, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. And here are the screenwriting team of Brian and Mark Gunn, who didn’t pen the pretty good Bring It On but the direct-to-dvd shitquel Bring It On Again, and their cowriter Richard Outten, who wrote not Pet Sematary but Pet Sematary Two. It’s not fair to suggest that Hollywood doesn’t care or isn’t trying.

What does it say about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s movie career that he is now starring in Brendan Fraser’s sloppy seconds? Probably that he could use a nice paycheck just like Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgens, Kristin Davis, and Luis Guzman, as you’ll see in this trailer for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (opening in 3D on February 10th) is the sort of sequel to the 2008 3D Brendan Fraser family fantasy flick Journey to the Center of the Earth. I say “sort of” because the only thing that really seems to be tying the two films together is the return of Josh Hutcherson, who played Fraser’s son in the original, and that this Walden Media production is also a very loosely based adaptation of a classic Jules Verne novel.

Just when you thought Dwayne Johnson was starting to refocus his career on R-rated action movies, he goes and does... this. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is the sequel to the Brendan Fraser 3D adventure Journey to the Center of the Earth, and aside from the improved cast it doesn't seem like the budget has really increased. It essentially looks like a low rent Jurassic Park knockoff with gratuitous 3D effects. Brendan Fraser is not returning because director of the first film, Eric Brevig, had scheduling conflicts and apparently Fraser just couldn't see another movie working without him. Makes perfect sense. The story has shifted the focus to be on Josh Hutcherson's character Sean, who teams up with his mom's boyfriend (Dwayne Johnson) to find his grandfather (Michael Caine), who supposedly disappeared while exploring a mythical lost island. Luis Guzmán also serves as the comic relief while Vanessa Hudgens plays the love interest.

For a network that is purposefully pitched to the lowest common denominator of teenagers, MTV has a pretty impressive history in a lot of different genres of TV shows. Musical programming, animation, sketch comedy, reality TV…well, okay, not so much the first three anymore. Still, any network that can support the blue-collar emotion of 16 & Pregnant alongside the trashy decadence of Jersey Shore deserves at least some kind of acclaim. But one thing has always proven elusive for MTV: good, solid, fictional programming. Example 1: the debut last night of Made: The Movie, which managed to combine every single teen...

Bad news. Platinum Dunes' remake of The Monster Squad is getting ever closer to actually happening. It was announced this week that the writing team of Mark and Brian Gunn have officially been hired to pen the script. If the news was that the screenplay was being written by James Gunn (who is Brian's brother and Mark's cousin), I'd actually be all for it, but Mark and Brian's best credit is Bring It On Again. Yeah, that's right, Bring It On Again. Let's just hope that a little James rubbed off on these guys when they were working on his PG Porn webisodes [1]. More after the jump... Screenwriting cousins Mark and Brian Gunn (Bring It on Again) have been hired to write Paramount's remake of "The Monster Squad." Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, xXx), who produced the original film, will produce and direct the new version. The 1987 original concerns a group of kids who discover a plot by Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Gill Man and The Mummy to try and take over the world. Cohen is already familiar with the latter creature, since he last directed the Universal sequel "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," which grossed $389 million worldwide. In addition to Cohen, Michael Bay of Platinum Dunes is producing. The studio is looking to the family-oriented property as a potential franchise, even as there is a project called "Monster Squad," with a different premise, in development at Warner Bros with Mike Mitchell (Shrek Forever After) directing.

Update: Twitter-Wood somehow stayed unpublished yesterday, even though I did indeed flip the switch. So here it is, slightly late. Enjoy!
North Korea may have come up short one goal against Brazil today, but that one goal they scored caught a lot of attention today in Twitter-Wood. The same can be said for the vuvuzelad being played by South African soccer fans at the tournament. Simon Pegg stepped up in defense of their horns, though.
Elsewhere, Felicia Day's E3 fascination continued today, and Nintendo's 3Ds received her approval. John Cleese, who voice acts in the Lionhead Studios game "Fable 3," which appeared yesterday at the show, did not accompany his game on stage there. He did, however, tweet a self portrait today that I deemed worthy of Twitter Pic of the Day.
Whether you agree or not with that decision, it's part of Twitter-Wood for June 15, 2010.

Director Rob Cohen’s upcoming remake of “The Monster Squad” for Paramount has brought onboard writers Mark and Brian Gunn to pen the script. The writing duo’s credits include the direct-to-video sequel “Bring It on Again”, but they’ve somehow managed to parlay that into writing gigs for the “Journey to the Center of the Earth” sequel, and now, “The Monster Squad” remake. Must be smooth talkers, these two, to go from an insipid cheerleader movie to writing a potential franchise for a big studio. “The Monster Squad” will be based on the 1987 original of the same name, and is essentially a kid-friendly monster movie. The premise has a group of intrepid tykes discovering a nefarious plot by legendary creatures Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Gill Man and The Mummy to take over the world. You know, the sort of stuff that no adult within a thousand miles...

In March it was announced that Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes was developing a remake of Fred Dekker's 1987 movie The Monster Squad, written by Dekker and Shane Black. Producers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form, and Rob Cohen have been meeting with writers, and have finally hired someone to pen the remake. Heatvision also reveals that the plan is to turn the family-oriented property into a potential franchise. Dunes has hired cousin screenwriting team Mark and Brian Gunn, writers of MTV's television movie 2gether and the television series it spawned, the writers behind James Gunn's PG Porn and the direct to DVD sequel Bring it On Again. They are also attached to the Journey to the Center of the Earth sequel and an in-development big screen adaptation of Mighty Mouse. A lot of people love to bash the Platinum Dunes remakes, but I've always said that all they need are better screenplays,...

The Xbox 360's motion control system previously known as Project Natal received its proper name "Kinect" at E3 on Sunday night. Both James Gunn and Felicia Day were on the front lines getting a look at Microsoft's presentation there and tweeted their reactions.
Back in movie land, "Eclipse" is the big presetation that Twilight followers are paying attention to right now. The increase in the cast's tweeting activity over the last week seems to indicate that they know they're being watched. Peter Facinelli and director David Slade were even kind enough to share some pictures from their travels. You can have a look at those after the jump. There, you'll also find out who's been hanging out with Coheed and Cambria and see who wore a triceratops dress to the "Toy Story 3" premiere.
It's all documented in Twitter-Wood for June 14, 2010.

A number of Twitter-Wood citizens have iPhones, and a fair number of them spoke up today after At&T revealed that it would be changing its data plans to phase out unlimited data deals. Neither Felicia Day nor Rich Sommer were amused.
You, on the other hand, may be amused to hear that two "New Moon" actors could be swapping underwear in the near future. I'll leave the context out and let you make your own assessments about that after the jump. There, you'll also see that two famous Star Trek faces have arranged a dinner date, Conan O'Brien and the "Glee" cast need a lot of space to sign their names, and Demi Moore is stoked about "Killers" coming out.
It's all retweeted in Twitter-Wood for June 2, 2010.

If "Bring It On," "Bring It On: All or Nothing," "Bring It on Again," "Bring It On: In It to Win It" and "Bring It On Fight to the Finish" have taught us anything, it's that cheerleading is serious stuff. That's a lesson Marti Perkins (Aly Michalka) has to learn the heard way when the college pre-law student loses her scholarship and has to tap into her gymnastics background to take up cheerleading overnight. Ashley Tisdale, Heather Hemmens, Robbie Jones and Matt Barr star in the new CW series "Hellcats," which will air in the Wednesday 9 p.m. hour...

The pictures kept coming in the Twitter-Wood feed today Jeremy Piven posted a look behind the scenes at "Entourage" Season 7, where Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones showed up. Meanwhile, down in Haiti Demi Moore and Ben Stiller have been hanging around trying to do some good in Haiti and Lee Unkrich vigilantly tweeted another pic from a "Toy Story 3" recording session.
Felicia Day's series "The Guild" may not be as old as "Entourage" yet, and she didn't post a pic, but the former "Buffy" actress did express her excitement in a tweet today after learning that the show has been renewed for another season by Microsoft. Get the skinny straight from her after the jump along with Kirstie Alley's make-out warning to Craig Ferguson and Arnold Schwarzenegger at Kings game. It's all in Twitter-Wood for April 13th, 2010.

It comes as no surprise that supporting cast members in "New Moon" would try to splinter off their own factions in the endless "Team Edward vs. Team Jacob" debate, but it looks like BooBoo Stewart's got at least one backer for Team Seth, judging from his TwitPic upload today. Tinsel Korey, meanwhile, remains firmly behind Team Jacob.
In non-"Twilight" posting today, Danny DeVito had a nice showing for his birthday last night, even if his picture wasn't high enough quality to make Twitter Pic of the Day. Neil Patrick Harris posted a new shot from the "How I Met Your Mother Set" and David Wain contributed a courtside view from the Lakers game. Check out all of those after the jump where you'll also find out which actress enjoys dancing to Lady Gaga and which actor claims he's the only one who didn't audition for "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Soupy Sales, Christian Serratos Proclaims 'Eclipse' Wrap And Twitter On Xbox In Today's Twitter-Wood
The "last day on the battlefield" that David Slade tweeted about must have ended well, since Christian Serratos tweeted triumphantly that "Eclipse" filming wrapped in Vancouver yesterday. Elsewhere, he co-star Jodelle Ferland struggled with her Twitter icon after accidentally covering up her face with a lemon. Such have been the trials and tribulations in the Twitter world of "Twilight."
Miranda Cosgrove, meanwhile, didn't seem to be struggling with the new pair of glasses she TwitPic'd a look at for her followers to evaluate. Nor did Felicia Day seem to have any trouble with her new Twitter functionality on Xbox Live, which she appears to have installed. Check all of those out, along with some Soupy Sales memorial headlines, Paris Hilton's Hello Kitty diamonds and Emmy Rossum's call for Halloween costume ideas. They're all waiting after the jump in the Twitter-Wood report for October 23, 2009.

Remember the spirit of Bring It On?
Ahh, makes me just want to cheer. ("Hey Eliza, you're so fine, you're so fine, you blow my mind. Eliza! Hey, hey Eliza!")
As someone who was never a cheerleader (I was more into organized sports), I could still appreciate the witty dialogue and dance routines of the teen movie. And though I haven't been enticed enough to see the sequels (Bring It On Again, Bring It On: All Or Nothing, Bring It On: In It to Win it, Bring It On Forever and Ever — Ok, I made up that last one), I will always hold a special place in my heart for the Dushku/Dunst/Union flick about competitive cheer squads.
However, I am not so interested in seeing Fired Up, the new film about two dudes who try to get out of football camp and hang out with girls by becoming cheerleaders themselves.

Science-fiction and fantasy fans first got to know Felicia Day from the last season of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, when she played Vi, one of Buffy's army of potential Slayers. Since making her name in fandom with that role, Day has starred in the films Bring It On Again and June, appeared as a patient on a recent episode of House, and starred in a well-known Cheetos ad. But instead of waiting for parts to come to her, last year Day launched a web series on YouTube—The Guild, a comedy about World Of Warcraft addicts based on her own obsession with the massively multiplayer online game. Her experience in Internet video led her to Joss Whedon's cult-hit web show, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, where she starred in a romantic triangle with Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion. Recently, Day spoke with The A.V. Club about making an online serial on.
