You could say that Kate Hudson is extremely famous as an actor and almost famous as a singer. That last part is changing as the public gets a gander of the promotional appearances she’s been doing for her debut album, “Glorious,” everywhere from the “Voice” finale to Howard Stern’s show. There’s a nearly universal reaction: “Wow, you can sing… really sing” — which maybe shouldn’t come as such a great surprise after her vocal appearances in the musical films “Nine” and “Music” and a prominent guest spot on “Glee,” and yet, maybe there was a suspicion in those instances that some sort of studio trickery was helping out a slumming movie star.
Now that she’s been doing live TV appearances and making her public performance debut at a star-filled L.A. show, it’s clear that she’s the real deal, as a rocker, and could...

Prime’s global top was blown up by the new charming romantic comedy, entering the game. The Idea of You, a love story about the single mother and the band’s frontman, signified Anne Hathaway’s loud return to the movie genre, where she impeccably fits in.
Here are 5 rom coms starring the actress, to revise one of her most memorable roles.
Ella Enchanted (2004)
This list would be impossible without mentioning this family-friendly fantasy, which appears to be a satire of the whole fairy tale genre. It follows a seemingly classic Cinderella story about a girl cursed to obey anything she is told to do, who leaves her home to find both love and a way out of the curse.
However, it offers a bunch of fun twists and Hathaway’s brilliant performance in the role of the fierce, though gentle Ella.

Last month, it was announced that writer/producer Judalina Neira is developing a TV series reimagining of the classic sitcom Bewitched for Sony Pictures Television, aiming to turn it into an “irreverent hourlong” show. NBC clearly likes the idea of reviving Bewitched, because now Deadline has broken the news that the network has their own “Bewitched-inspired” show called Something Wicked in the works, and this one already has a star attached: June Diane Raphael, who may be best known for playing the character Brianna Hanson for the 94 episodes that make up the Netflix series Grace and Frankie, which ran for seven seasons.
Raphael is also writing and executive producing Something Wicked with Dickinson creator Alena Smith. A multi-camera comedy, the show is described as having a Bewitched-type premise and will also serve as an homage to TV sitcom classics. It examines the condition of modern adult womanhood and how even with witchcraft,...

Kate Hudson rocks a familiar look while stepping out for press on Thursday (January 4) in New York City.
The 44-year-old actress wore a fur trench coat that was very reminiscent of the coat she wore in one of her early, fan-favorite films Almost Famous!
While appearing on The View that day, Kate talked about her rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, which turned 20 years old in 2023, what made it so good, and what rom-coms are missing nowadays.
Keep reading to find out more…
“Honestly, I think it was well written,” she said. “I think there’s this sort of misconception that a rom-com is supposed to have a certain formula, which it does, there is a formula that works… But it does also start with the writing.”

Kate Hudson knows what makes a successful rom-com, but there’s one piece to the puzzle that is a little more difficult to come by.
During an appearance on Thursday’s episode of The View, the actress admitted that she finds it “hard to get male movie stars to make rom-coms.”
Hudson explained that having the right leading man is an important aspect of the movies. “As long as we can get more Marvel guys to like, you know, ‘Hey, come to a rom-com!,’ I think that that’s a big part of the formula, too,” she added.
The View‘s Sara Haines proceeded to ask Hudson why she thinks there’s a lack of appeal for male actors to take on romantic comedies.
“I think it’s about the writing, and how we’re investing in telling the story of the writing and the directors,” the actress responded. “If...

[Editor’s note: Anne Hathaway received a SAG-AFTRA waiver to participate in this interview for “She Came to Me.”]
“Oh, gosh, I have been fearing this moment,” Anne Hathaway said. The Oscar-winning actress is referring to being asked about playing a psychiatrist in back-to-back independent films, “Eileen” and “She Came to Me” who — in each feature — lets out a cathartic, instantly iconic scream in pivotal dramatic moments, sure to be excerpted by the internet (and adoring gay fans like this one).
In Rebecca Miller’s eccentric relationship comedy “She Came to Me,” Hathaway plays Dr. Patricia Jessup-Lauddem, a hyper-organized, Ocd-tending New York psychiatrist whose desire to achieve her “most uncluttered space” leads her on the path to becoming a nun. In William Oldroyd’s darker queer noir “Eileen,” she’s the elegant blond-headed prison counselor Rebecca St. John, whose rebellious air allures younger, impressionable secretary Eileen, played by Thomasin McKenzie.

Actor Anne Hathaway broke into the Hollywood scene as a teenager. Her talents were spotted right away, and Hathaway soon became one of the biggest film stars of the early 2000s. While her initial roles were quite tame, Hathaway soon found herself in more risque scenarios as her career progressed.
On more than one occasion, Hathaway found herself in just her birthday suit on set. While the birthday suit look was called for in most of these situations, on one occasion, Hathaway stripped down in front of the entire film crew by accident. Here’s a look at one of Hathaway’s most embarrassing moments on set.

June Diane Raphael and Jessica St. Clair launched their podcast, The Deep Dive, in the midst of the pandemic as a way to compensate for the loneliness and disconnect of lockdown.
Each week, the two longtime friends and creative collaborators discuss their pursuit of joy amid a bevy of challenges both relatable (motherhood, aging) and aspirational (finding the correct poolside attire for Miami Beach Pride). Doing the podcast helped lift the actresses out of their own post-lockdown voids, and their motto — “Let Us Live!” — echoes through Apple reviews posted by their ever-expanding listening community.
When the abrupt work stoppage of this summer’s double strike threatened to trigger a similar existential crisis, they were ready with an antidote: They launched the Deep Dive Academy of Significance.
“We started a virtual school, and that is one of the most insane things I think I have ever said,” St. Clair says with a laugh.

Chicago – Catching a young actor in an early career stride is like catching lightning in a bottle. Colin Ford has such a breakthrough role portraying Rickey Hill, a Texas ballplayer who is battling a degenerative disease that may not give him enough time to fulfill his major league dreams. The film is aptly titled “The Hill.”
Rickey Hill wears leg braces as a child due to a degenerative spinal disease, but enjoys playing baseball. His strict pastor father (Dennis Quaid) dissuades his son from the sport, wanting to shield him from further injuries. But despite all odds, the older Rickey (Colin Ford) becomes a baseball “phenom.” When he begins to be scouted for the major leagues, the father and son are still divided, but Rickey Hill won’t give up.

The growing pains and dramatic throes of girlhood can be character building, traumatic, and cathartic — for both cinematic protagonists and their audience. It’s certainly not an easy time for the heroine at the center of “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah,” whose impending rite-of-passage ushers in an adulthood she’s not quite ready to handle. Director Sammi Cohen and screenwriter Alison Peck bestow this hilarious, heartrending adaptation of Fiona Rosenbloom’s novel with an uplifting, effervescent vision and vitality, giving voice to a young Jewish girl’s struggle to figure out who she is before the most important night of her life so far.
Seventh grader Stacy Friedman (Sunny Sandler) is serious about her Bat Mitzvah … sorta. She’s put more thought into having a legendary party than studying the ceremonial text from the Torah. She has big dreams for a lavish New York City-themed bash,...

Since his days on the hit TV show Parks and Recreation, Chris Pratt has come a long way. The actor has starred in blockbuster films like Jurassic World and The Tomorrow War. While he’s now known for his chiseled physique, it wasn’t always that way. In fact, Pratt weighed almost 300 pounds when he auditioned for his role as Peter Quill in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. The actor was given less than six months to get in shape.

Church bells are ringing, the choir's singing, and your true love is walking down the aisle. One of the happiest — but most stressful — days of every couple's lives has been great fodder for filmmakers for decades. Whether they're watching Audrey Hepburn's charm and beauty threaten William Holden's nuptials, Andi MacDowell and Hugh Grant attend multiple weddings (and one funeral), or Andy Samberg relive the same ceremony over and over again, viewers young and old alike love to laugh and cry at wedding movies.
These movies' success comes down to flexibility; there are countless narrative possibilities associated with a momentous occasion like a wedding. While we watch a couple commit to until-death-do-us-part, the screen can radiate immense love and joy, or immediate dread and regret. Laughter can fill a banquet hall just as easily as the sound of a jilted lover's tears. So, dust off that tuxedo and puff up that bridesmaid dress,...

Steve Howey landed small roles on TV throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s before ultimately securing the recurring role of Van Montgomery on the WB sitcom "Reba" from 2001 to 2007. Howey's role on "Reba" helped propel him into the spotlight, which led to his performances in films like "Bride Wars" and shows like "Psych" in the mid to late 2000s. Arguably, Howey is most known for his role as Kevin Ball in the acclaimed Showtime series "Shameless," which he starred in from 2011 to 2021. Up next, Howey is starring in the CBS action series "True Lies," which premieres on the network and Paramount+ on March 1.

Despite HBO Max pulling a number of originals from its roster over the past several months, HBO Max originals premiering on the platform this month include a Dionne Warwick documentary, an adult European animated series titled “Poor Devil” and “Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special” based on the popular animated series.

Kate Hudson’s latest character is “actually quite sad.”
“She’s being held onto by this billionaire that she probably doesn’t like very much but feels tied to,” Hudson says. “She deeply needs to be validated and seen and heard to the point where it’s self-destructive. She always gets in her own way.”
No, Hudson is not in some new movie you haven’t heard about yet. She’s talking about Birdie Jay, the delightful comic confection she brings to life in “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” Hudson says that when you analyze the flighty Birdie, her problems seem quite heavy but on screen, she flits through as comic relief.
“She’s an absolutely fabulous character with hilarious lines any comedic actor would love,” says Hudson, who rose to stardom with her Oscar-nominated turn in “Almost Famous” and became a rom-com staple with hits such as “Bride Wars,...

Kate Hudson went beast mode for a walk in Los Angeles with her daughter, Rani Rose, 3, and her fiance, Danny Fujikawa on Tuesday.
The 43-year-old actress is known for her hard workouts and loves to show off what great shape she’s in.
That was the case again when Kate was spotted hitting the trails in Los Angeles with her family for a walk that we’ll certainly remember.
After all, the gorgeous Almost Famous actress was carrying quite a load while getting her workout on in a black sports bra and matching tiny shorts.
She accessorized the look with a King Street Vodka cap pulled down low enough to shade her eyes and as she walked, it was impossible not to notice Kate’s incredible abs, which...

Amazon Prime Video is ringing in the month of July with a smorgasbord of new titles, from “House of Gucci” (previously available to purchase or rent on Amazon Prime Video) to classic films like “Clueless,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “Yentl.” Apart from the Lady Gaga-starring crime drama, which becomes available to stream on July 2, most other titles will join the platform on July 1.
The streamer is also debuting a handful of Amazon originals this month. The comic book series adaptation “Paper Girls” will hit the streamer at the very end of the month. “Warriors on the Field,” a documentary about Indigenous players in the Australian Football League, premieres July 8. Indie drama “Don’t Make Me Go” and coming-of-age series “Forever Summer: Hamptons” debut July 15, followed by the Billy Porter-directed “Anything’s Possible” and the boxing feature “Prizefighter” on July 22.

Two is the magic number when it comes to Prime Video’s list of new releases for July 2022. While Amazon’s streamer is bringing many library titles to the mix this month, it has two original TV shows and two original movies of note.
Prime Video kicks off the month with The Terminal List on July 1. Though everything about that name screams “Movie” to me for some reason, the Chris Pratt-starring action property is actually a series. Pratt will portray James Reece, a Navy Seal who returns home after his team is ambushed on a covert mission only to discover that the threat might still persist. Then Prime Video closes out the month with Paper Girls on July 29. This adaptation of a Brian K. Vaughan comic is a sci-fi yarn about a group of young paper delivery girls confronting a temporal anomaly.

The romantic comedy as we know it has been through four phases. It was born with “It Happened One Night” (1934), and the glory of the classic romantic-comedy period (Hepburn and Tracy and so on) was the ’30s and ’40s, though it extended into the ’50s with a movie like “Pillow Talk.” The form enjoyed a cultural resurgence starting in 1989 and ’90, with the release of “When Harry Met Sally” and “Pretty Woman.” You could call that the Age of Nora Ephron, since she kind of ruled over it; the fact that that era spawned the term “rom-com” says a lot about how love comedies, in their born-again popularity, were becoming a kind of consumer product. The third phase was the Matthew McConaughey/Kate Hudson era, when the sheer cheesiness of so many studio rom-coms became its own reward; the films were turning into guilty pleasures. Then there’s the phase we...

Steve Howey has been cast in one of the lead roles in the CBS drama pilot based on the movie “True Lies,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Casey Wilson may be best known as an actor, with roles in “Gone Girl,” “Atypical,” “Happy Endings” and “Black Monday” as well as a stint as a “Saturday Night Live” cast member, and as a podcaster (“Bitch Sesh”). The majority of Steven Soderbergh’s delicious new comedy “Let Them All Talk” occurs on a cruise ship crossing from New York to London. Amidst the mass of passengers onboard, we’re focused on four women: Alice Hughes (Meryl Streep), a fictional Pulitzer-Prize winning novelist, her two oldest friends, Roberta (Candice Bergen) and Susan (Dianne Wiest), and Alice’s zealous new literary agent (Gemma Chan). Simmering among these four women are countless secrets, resentments, and regrets — and somewhere across the Atlantic, all of them are bound to come to a boil.
In directing the film, Soderbergh took a guerrilla approach. He eschewed the usual trove of lights and equipment, favoring natural lighting and a wheelchair for dolly shots. The onscreen love drought is over — at least, that’s what the recent return of the romantic comedy seems to have signaled. After falling out of Hollywood’s favor over the past decade, the classic genre has started enjoying a new resurgence, bolstered by Netflix’s ability to churn out a slew of charming (and social media-friendly) genre entries and a studio landscape finally willing to bet on projects like “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Love, Simon.”
While Netflix generally doesn’t release its viewership numbers, a third quarter report from the streaming giant revealed last year that over 80 million customers watched its original rom-coms over the summer. (Netflix did not respond for a request for comment.) In 2018, “Crazy Rich Asians” made Warner Bros. over $230 million at the domestic box office, and a pair of sequels are already in the works.

No deal announcements. No talk of the Chinese film industry’s ongoing winter of discontent. Instead the parade of talent on stage Wednesday night at Shanghai’s Wanda Reign hotel put their troubles aside for a moment and celebrated the 20th anniversary of producer-distributor-exhibition company Bona Film Group.
At regular intervals, Bona’s founder and chairman Yu Dong called on stage close friends and strategic partners – including film-maker Huang Jianxin and EastWest Bank chairman Dominic Ng – for multiple rounds of reminiscence, and toasts to the future. Bona executives past and present Nansun Shi, Jeffrey Chan, and Nick Qi also shared the spotlight.
Talent and film makers on hand at one of the most lavish events of the Shanghai International Film Festival week, included Roland Emmerich (“Midway”), producer-director Fruit Chan (“Bride Wars”), Dante Lam (“Operation Mekong”), Andrew Lau (“The Chinese Pilot”), Raymond Wong Bak-ming, Wong Jing (“Chasing The Dragon”), Gordon Chan,...

In the new rom-com Long Shot, Charlize Theron is cast as a liberal politico and Seth Rogen as a frowsy journalist locked together in a chaotic, and comedic, run for the presidency. The film won’t ignite Marvel-like box office numbers, but it may strike a chord with Hollywood Democrats, who already look upon the 2020 election with a certain dread given the prospect of attending fundraisers for 23 prospective nominees.
In Long Shot, the portrayal of Theron’s candidacy would likely make Hollywood constituents comfortable. She’s also the sort of female power figure that critics yearn for (the New York Times gave her performance a rave). Though a forceful advocate of her cause, however, she’s also a politician whose positions waver in keeping with the polls. Indeed her fuzzy-minded, from-the-heart policy pronouncements remind me less of a Kamala Harris than of the young Ronald Reagan.
