Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!
Match #1: Pretty Deadly def. Randy Orton & Kevin Owens The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Just one week before their Triple Threat Match with United States Champion Logan Paul at WrestleMania, Randy Orton and Kevin Owens teamed up once again, this time facing Pretty Deadly. Just as Ko and Orton were rolling, Paul slithered from underneath the ring, hitting Ko in the jaw with the brass knuckles and allowing Pretty Deadly to capture the victory.
My Score: 2 out of 5 Match #2: Austin Theory & Grayson Waller def. The Street Profits The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The Street Profits opened the match like a house on fire as Angelo Dawkins sent Grayson Waller flying into the announce table with a massive tackle.

In Jimmy Loweree’s striking horror feature debut "Absence," doctors are baffled when a young expectant mother Liz (Erin Way, "Alphas"), wakes to find her nearly-to-term pregnancy disappear overnight. The police are investigating the situation as a missing child case and only her husband, Rick (Eric Matheny, J. Edgar) and brother, Evan (Ryan Smale, Damage) trust her version of events. Told in the "found footage" style, Evan looks for answers by filming his sister’s experience. The trio embarks upon a trip to the mountains to escape the attention of the police and prying neighbors. When the trip spins out of control they realize that whatever happened with Liz and her baby isn’t over. None of them are safe. Below, Loweree shares a scene from his film and defends his use of found footage. "Absence" is now playing in select theaters including the Quad Cinema in New York City...

Absence is a film that challenges the audience to find its own truths. Not just within the plot, but in the basics of family dynamics.
Opening theatrically on July 5th, Absence is the story of Evan (Ryan Smale, Damage). A young college student whose sister Liz (Erin Way, “Alphas”), has had her unborn baby disappear. To coup with a suspicious town, he and his brother in-law, Rick (Eric Matheny, J. Edgar), take her away to a secluded mountain community. As Evan attempts to document his sister’s recovery, strange things begin to happen which will test their family bond. Someone or something clearly wants more.
Shock Till You Drop recently spoke with writer/director Jimmy Loweree about the challenges of creating his first feature, crafting the perfect characters, and engaging the audience.

What if you were pregnant and woke up to find that your child was gone. No trace, no memory, you just are no longer pregnant. Imagine the implications, not only within the family, but from others outside. What would that do to you? More importantly, what if that was just the beginning of the nightmare? These are the questions posed at the start of Jimmy Loweree debut feature, Absence.
The film opens in the Hospital where Liz (Erin Way, “Alphas”) is recovering after having her child seemingly kidnapped. Even worse, the child was unborn! Her ex-military husband, Rick (Eric Matheny, J. Edgar), takes her out of town along with her brother, Evan (Ryan Smale, Damage), who is attempting to document his sister’s recovery and selfishly complete a film assignment for college at the same time. The tension is immediate, and constant. Evan is one of those guys that we...

Born To Fight
Stars: ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, Daniel Magder, Jaren Brandt Bartlett, Janet Kidder, Emma Grabinsky | Written by Evan Jacobs, Jack Nasser | Directed by Anne Wheeler
Former WWE superstar ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin is back with Born To Fight, aka Knockout, another direct to DVD movie for producer Jack Nasser, who both previously worked together on Damage, The Stranger and the awesome Hunt to Kill. Besides producing Nasser also co-writes, with Evan Jacobs (Doughboys), this Karate Kid-esque underdog story of a nerd who learns to box, get the girl and beat the high school bully.
So far so Karate KId right? Well yes and no. Born To Fight does follow the now typical beatdown, train, fight, win formula that was made famous by Mr. Miyagi and co. in the 80s, but it has a lot, and I mean a Lot, in common with the underrated 90′s action movie Showdown,...

The Film:
My old school wrestling buddies should know how infinitely bad-ass “Stone Cold” Steve Austin is. Note how I didn’t say was. He might have been underused in The Expendables, but his fight with Stallone was great. It shouldn’t take too much to convince a producer to build an action film around Austin, and that’s what has been happening for a few years now. Damage. The Stranger. Now Hunt to Kill. Low-rent action films for that late night boredom, but Hunt to Kill is barely passable even at 1am.
Sure, the film is derivative of a thousand other derivative action films, but what kind of kills it centers around the lack of bad-assness. Austin really isn’t the film’s focus, despite his lead name and face plastered on the cover. We follow some idiotic robbers who have just “pulled off the perfect heist” yet one...

Director Keoni Waxman has carved out quite a niche for himself in the direct-to-video action movie market, working with such genre luminaries as Steven Seagal and Dolph Lundgren. He’s not trying to make great art, he’s trying to make entertaining action films that kick a little ass. His latest, “Hunt to Kill”, is almost there. This time around, Waxman teams up with former professional wrestler turned movie tough guy, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Austin is great at one thing, being hard and scary. In movies like “The Expendables” and “Damage” he pulls off a pretty awesome, believable, badass. He has the size and the don’t-fuck-with-me scowl, and though he’s not a slick, highly trained fighter, his I’m-bigger-stronger-and-badder-than-you style harkens back to a time when an action hero could get away with being just a brawler. That’s what Austin’s good at. What he still...

Episode Title: "There Is No Normal Anymore"
Written By: Scott Peters & Sam Egan
Synopsis: FBI Agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) and Father Jack Landry (Joel Gretsch) must decide whether or not to hide their knowledge of the Visitors' true intentions — a particularly difficult decision for Erica given the fact that she had to kill former partner Dale (Alan Tudyk), who was secretly a Visitor. Journalist Chad Decker (Scott Wolf) attempts to control the public perception of Visitor spokesperson Anna (Morena Baccarin), while secret Visitor Ryan Nichols (Morris Chestnut) tries to find a way to repair his damaged flesh.
Don't Trust Anyone: Tonight's episode reinforced the theme that everybody is suspect — after all, if you can't trust Alan Tudyk's face, then who can you trust? There are already some suspicious characters in my mind including Agent Malik (Rekha Sharma, one of the elite final five on "Battlestar Galactica") and Father...

If you’re a mixed martial artist with an inkling of acting talent, by all means, take advantage of the current wave of Mma action flicks which are making their way to video store shelves at an alarming rate. “Blood & Bone” is already collecting dust, and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s “Damage” is scheduled for release sometime next year. And those are just a few I’m pulling off the top of my head. Now, apparently, “Undisputed 3,” the second sequel nobody wanted, is ready for mass consumption. Considering how interchangeable these films really are, does anyone really care? Are there enough fans of the original films to warrant another follow-up? Apparently so. Directed by Isaac Florentine (”Bridge of Dragons,” “Undisputed 2″), the film follows yet another illegal prison fight club and the large, angry men who participate in it. The first place prize: freedom, sweet and pure. If you were expecting more of a story,...

Red Cliff
John Woo hasn’t exactly lit up the screen with his Hollywood films has he? Face/Off is enjoyable I guess but the less said about Windtalkers, Paycheck and even Mission Impossible 2 the better really. It’s a shame because the man is capable of directing action sequences better than anybody else on the planet.
Red Cliff sees John Woo look to Chinese history for inspiration. It’s a sweeping, magnificent epic that looked amazing on the big screen.
The Han dynasty is coming to an end in third century China so as a last ditch attempt for survival the Emperor raises an army that stretches close to a million to attack the two neighbouring kingdoms.
Red Cliff boasts beautiful cinematography and action set pieces. It’s great to see a Director back at the top of his game.
Looks incredible on Blu-Ray.

Leave your brain at the door for this one.

Adam Beach will star opposite "Stone Cold" Steve Austin in "The Stranger," an action vehicle for the wrestling star being directed by Rob Lieberman. Nasser Entertainment Group and Caliber Media are financing and producing.
The man-on-the-run story follows an FBI agent (Beach) who is tracking down a material witness (Austin) involved in a top-secret investigation.

Jack and Joe Nasser are producing with Caliber's Jack Heller and Dallas Sonnier.
"Stranger" begins lensing this week in Vancouver.
It will be the second film on which Austin, Neg and Caliber have partnered. The first, "Damage," a bare-knuckles fight film, is looking at a 2010 theatrical release.

‘Cause Stone Cold Said So! Check out the new trailer for Stone Cold Steve Austin’s new movie ‘Damage‘. Stone Cold is one of the best and most entertaining WWE (Called the WWF in his day) stars of all time. He entertained us for years as the star of Monday Night Raw with his beer drinking, hell raising, shit talking attitude. Whether he was giving you the bird or getting a ‘Hell Yea’ from the crowd, Stone Cold was always whoopin ass, and you can expect the same from his movies. Who said wrestling and acting don’t mix? (har har)

With John Cena's starring vehicle 12 Rounds opening today, it's clear that pro wrestlers continue to make for good movie stars, whether it's of the family-friendly variety (The Rock) or the ass-kicking one. Stone Cold Steve Austin, who also starred in 2007's The Condemned, will be sticking with the latter kind of role, preparing to star in the action thriller The Stranger. Austin also has another movie in the pipeline, according to THR, the fight movie Damage. Not sure how this one will be different from a fight film, except maybe Austin will be called upon to do a fraction less beating people up and a fraction more acting. But we all know if he doesn't snap some bad guy's next with his feet, we'll all be disappointed we paid for a ticket. Give us the goods, Austin!
