Robert Downey Jr. is one of the most sarcastic and incredibly humorous celebrities in the entertainment industry holding an inquisitively extensive knowledge of almost everything. In short, he is an impeccably witty genius and faces no problem whatsoever in bringing those very skills to light through his characters on the big screens as well — take his version of Iron Man, for instance.

But while his remarkable performance as the Marvel superhero has launched him to such heights of extraordinary fame that his name is used synonymously with Tony Stark’s, that isn’t the only time he immaculately showcased his brilliant chops. This stands after watching him humiliate Yellowstone star Kelly Reilly in his $524 million Sherlock Holmes — one that would put even Iron Man to shame!

This article contains spoilers for The Acolyte episode 2.
What we know about the Jedi in Star Wars can — and has — filled not only several films and TV shows but a ton of books and comics, too. And, tellingly, one seclusive Jedi practice while introduced on screen in the films, was only given a name in the comic books. We’re talking about “the Barash Vow,” a Jedi tradition first explicitly mentioned in 2017 in issue #2 of Marvel’s first Darth Vader comic book miniseries. But, at this point, the Barash Vow is a big deal in Star Wars canon, having impacted the latter years of both Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
And, sneakily, this practice makes its way into the second episode of the newest Disney+ Star Wars TV series, The Acolyte. Here’s why the Barash Vow is such a big deal in Star Wars, why it appears in The Acolyte,...

Robert Downey Jr. might have become one of the most prominent Hollywood stars thanks to his portrayal of Iron Man in the MCU, but he has a plethora of other roles. Apart from the actor’s most ground-breaking performances like that in Oppenheimer, he also starred in spectacular and highly entertaining action flicks like his Sherlock Holmes series — that unfortunately died off after just two movies.

Downey Jr. Hasn’t Given Up on Sherlock Holmes
Robert Downey Jr’s version of Sherlock Holmes might just be as unorthodox as they come, but it’s definitely a fan favorite. The sheer fun factor of those movies and their overall quality endeared viewers to them, and it came as a tough blow to many when the Sherlock Holmes films were dropped. However, if the studio gave up its Victorian London dream, it doesn’t mean that the star actor himself did,...

Keep your big-budget extravaganzas and intellectual properties! These days, Hollywood actors are breathlessly lining up to join the Benoit Blanc Cinematic Universe. Ever since Rian Johnson singled-handedly revived the big screen whodunnit with 2019's "Knives Out," the mid-budget murder-mystery series has become the hottest destination for rising stars, A-listers, and under-sung veterans of the industry to flex their acting muscles as the various colorful characters that occupy this world. Even the property's shift from the theatrical market to the streaming landscape three years later with Netflix's "Glass Onion" wasn't enough to deter folks from flocking to these movies like they're the next "Dune" sequel.
Following the announcement of Johnson's third "Knives Out Mystery" last month (now officially titled "Wake Up Dead Man"), it's become a daily guessing game trying to figure out who will sign on to match wits with Daniel Craig's sharp-witted Southern sleuth Blanc next.

Sherlock star Amanda Abbington has fired fresh shots in the rumbling row over the professional conduct of her former Strictly Come Dancing partner Giovanni Pernice.
Abbington performed with Pernice during the 2023 season of the BBC dance competition, but dropped out early citing “personal reasons.”
The actress has reportedly engaged London law firm Carter-Ruck to pursue a complaint with the BBC about Pernice’s teaching methods. Other celebrities who have partnered with Pernice are also said to be party to the complaint.
Abbington has now spoken out about the dancer in an interview with The Mail On Sunday, telling the newspaper that Pernice was “nasty.” Pernice has denied wrongdoing.
Abbington said: “Giovanni is nasty. He was awful to a few of us.”
She added: “You don’t understand how awful this all is … Giovanni’s fans have started trolling me now. I have had to come off social media and I’m getting death threats.

The new series will be based on Andy Lane’s book series Young Sherlock Homes and will star Hero Fiennes Tiffin. Ritchie earlier shared that he did not take up the directing duty for Sherlock Holmes 3 after Robert Downey Jr. wanted to be in charge of the franchise.

Hayao Miyazaki is considered one of the best animators of all time, and his work with Studio Ghibli includes some of the most beloved and acclaimed animated films in the history of the medium. The animator has helped change anime and animation so much that he refuses to permanently retire, choosing instead to deliver masterpiece after masterpiece and exploring different genres and tones, all while remaining true to his trademark themes and characters — determined heroines, magical realism, and anti-war messages. Miyazaki seems determined to continue working even if it means threatening the future of his studio after he's gone because he's yet to pick a successor.
While many people are familiar with Miyazaki's output with Studio Ghibli, not many know about his work prior to co-founding the studio with Isao Takahata and Toshio Suzuki. And yet, it is in that pre-Ghibli era that we find hints of the maestro that Miyazaki would become,...

My guest this week is Andrew Scott.
In this episode we dig into Scott’s early start in a cereal commercial and his job in a bizarre supermarket, along with the “empathy game” that is acting, and how it cured him of a childhood speech impediment.
Scott also reveals his profound grief at the recent passing of his beloved mother, the legacy of kindness she left him with and why she was “a total hero”.
In Netflix’s limited series Ripley, Scott plays the titular role of Tom Ripley, a scheming grifter set on inserting himself into the life of rich playboy Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn). Based on the novels by Patricia Highsmith, Anthony Minghella’s 1999 film version, The Talented Mr. Ripley, starred Matt Damon and Jude Law. Scott explains why this new series written and directed by Steven Zaillian stood out to him as a fresh and different take on the story,...

One thing that makes every TV show unique is the title. It should be catchy enough for viewers to remember and easy enough to roll off the tongue of fans in any conversation. The Big Bang Theory spinoff, Young Sheldon, hit the perfect spot, while also explaining to viewers what the show was about.
One of the newer TV shows in development on Amazon Prime Video, however, didn't weigh in the way that the show's title will be reminiscent of a completely different show. Young Sherlock, which could easily be called Young Sheldon's successor, is very likely to have some viewers confused.

While Robert Downey Jr. is known for his portrayal of Iron Man in the MCU, he also portrayed Sherlock Holmes in Guy Ritchie’s adaptation of the popular novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The actor reprised his role in the 2011 sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and was also set to appear in a threequel.
Amazon Prime Video announced recently that a series based on Andy Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes novels would be in development with Guy Ritchie directing. This follows a trend of prequels and spinoffs of popular characters where the story follows a younger version such as Dexter, Young Sheldon, Ted, and more.

The BBC has taken the rare step of issuing a statement on an ongoing misconduct probe pertaining to one of its shows, Strictly Come Dancing and the Giovanni Pernice fallout.
The BBC has been gathering evidence in recent weeks as it examines serious complaints against a dancer widely understood to be Pernice from multiple claimants including, reportedly, Sherlock actor Amanda Abbington, who was partnered with Pernice last year but left the show after a few weeks citing medical reasons.

14 years ago, we were all shocked by the new take on Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories. Created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, it presented the new vision of our favorite detective and modernized the whole story of his exploits.
Just a year before that the world saw Guy Ritchie’s adaptation, set in the 1890s just like the canon, yet offered a more dynamic narration with lots of action sequences. This movie was received not as positively as the series that aired from 2010 to 2017, however, Reddit’s recent discussion concludes that Ritchie’s version holds up significantly better.
It was Redditor @saylorthrift who started this debate, and their hot takes surprisingly gained large support. Overall, it is stated that the 2009 movie has aged better than Moffat and Gatiss’ show because of its cast, setting, atmosphere, as well as screenplay.

The real monster in Eric, the emotional thriller from playwright and screenwriter Abi Morgan, isn’t a big, blue beast. It’s something much more sinister.
The series, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as a puppeteer named Vincent looking for his missing young son in ’80s Manhattan, explores the scourges of structural inequity, the AIDS epidemic, white collar crime, and addiction terrorizing the city.
“This is a drama and a quest of a man who goes in search of his son and goes on that journey deep into himself, but also deep underground into the underbelly of New York’s economic underclass, which has been ignored, abused, and corrupted,” Morgan tells Tudum.

After months of almost complete silence, the Knives Out franchise makes a grand comeback to the news field with lots of pretty exciting updates.
Last week, Netflix finally dropped the first teaser for the franchise’s third installment that is now titled Wake Up Dead Man and will presumably cover Benoit Blanc’s most dangerous case ever. Fans haven’t even had enough time to explore the teaser and find some Easter eggs when the upcoming movie suddenly got its cast ensemble and once again broke the news.
Apart from all the other actors, Wake Up Dead Man will feature a major star, and his previous big roles may become some sort of hint for what he will be like in the future film.
According to Variety’s reports, Wake Up Dead Man has just added Andrew Scott to its main cast, which already includes The Crown’s Josh O’Connor and Priscilla’s Cailee Spaeny.

Without a doubt, Benedict Cumberbatch has been among the most prominent British actors for many years now — and the one who conquered Hollywood with impeccable ease. The Sherlock star’s TV shows and movies win awards, charm critics, and captivate audiences, and he does it again and again, with another mini-series coming up soon… The one that had Cumberbatch do the funniest thing.

[This story contains spoilers from the Doctor Who season up to and including “73 Yards.”]
There aren’t many television shows that could, in the matter of only a few episodes, feature a monster made of boogers that terrorizes babies, a killer drag queen defeated by the power of music (with a little help from The Beatles) and a pointless religious war catalyzed by a capitalist algorithm.
But, not all shows are Doctor Who.
And since Disney+ acquired the long-running BBC science-fiction show, the Time Lord — now played by Ncuti Gatwa — in the quintessentially British show remains as quirky as ever.
The latest episode, penned by showrunner Russell T Davies, continues its unpredictable streak by donning the guise of folk-horror in an eerie decade-spanning epic that will have Whovians tapping their keyboards in forums for years to come.
Below, THR breaks down some questions viewers may have about “73 Yards” and the Disney+ season so far.

When it comes to the Outstanding TV Movie category, the last few years have actually been very interesting. The Marvel Cinematic Universe lost its biggest hero when Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man fell in Avengers: Endgame, but not after saving the day/Earth 616. Ever since then, the MCU has struggled to create the kind of projects that made it such a global success in the first place.
While most fans have asked for Kevin Feige and company to focus on originality and come up with new narratives that delve into the wealth of characters the Comics have on offer, some have also pressed for a Robert Downey Jr. return. Whether that is a potential option especially considering the actor’s own wishes, Feige had previously claimed they would ‘never want to mafically undo’ Stark’s heroic death.

It’s one of those odd April days in Los Angeles, the type that locals know well: Hours after noon, the sun still seems ambivalent about whether it wants to make itself known. An outsider wouldn’t think it possible for the gleaming capital of show business to feel so grayed out. But if you grew up on an island where colorless skies are the norm, it might feel familiar.
“It’s like, Will I? Won’t I?” the Irish actor Andrew Scott quips as he settles into his chair on the rooftop of the Edition Hotel in West Hollywood. He’s been in town promoting his Netflix series “Ripley,” which launched a few weeks ago, and the foreboding weather seems apt. On that limited series, the Italian vistas seem as unsettled as its antihero’s soul. The show’s vibe is “almost like L.A., what we’re looking at here now,...

It’s definitely time for Benedict Cumberbatch fans to celebrate as the actor’s two very similar shows are coming to Netflix at almost the same time later in May. The streaming will first release the 2018 drama miniseries Patrick Melrose which will be followed by Cumberbatch’s brand new show Eric.
Apart from the fact that the actor stars in both shows, the series have much more in common than they initially seem to.
Back in 2018, Patrick Melrose got to be Cumberbatch’s first big dramatical role since the actor rose to international prominence due to his breakout role in the BBC crime drama show Sherlock.
Based on Edward St Aubyn’s semi-biographical novels, Patrick Melrose follows an eponymous aristocrat whose wealthy family’s facade hides his big childhood trauma caused by Patrick’s abusive father, which later leads to Patrick’s severe substance abuse and struggles in adulthood.

Amateur sleuth shows used to be popular in the pre-csi era of television.
These series showcased detectives who were not police officers, were often quirky, and could best the cops at solving murders -- if they could get them to listen.
You're right if you think that sounds exactly like CBS' Elsbeth. Elsbeth has more in common with amateur sleuth series of the past than with the show it spun off from, The Good Wife.
Elsbeth is a modern take on classic shows like Columbo, Murder She Wrote, and Diagnosis Murder. Most shows it owes a debt to are no longer on television, but streaming services have given them new life.
Elsbeth Heralds the Return of Amateur Sleuth Shows
Amateur sleuth shows are part of the cozy mystery genre.
Nowadays, they've fallen out of favor -- these mysteries mostly air as movies on the Hallmark channel.

This post contains spoilers for "Dune."
In Frank Herbert's "Dune," Mentat Thufir Hawat, the Master of Assassins for House Atreides, trains heir-to-the-throne Paul Atreides in the ways of military strategy and political maneuvering. Exceedingly gifted and cunning, Thufir emerges as an asset for the Atreides, especially during their takeover of Arrakis, the coveted Spice-rich desert planet that the people of Caladan knew very little about. Although Hawat's abilities are tested to the limits after the Atreides find themselves under attack, he successfully orchestrates a raid on Giedi Prime on Duke Leto's orders, striking the Harkonnens where it hurt the most by destroying their illegal spice reserves.
In Denis Villeneuve's "Dune," Stephen McKinley Henderson embodies the role of Thufir with equal parts panache and integrity, sporting a deeply intelligent gaze that turns milky-grey when he channels his abilities, along with a fashionable parasol to beat the heat on Arrakis.

10. Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005–2008)
An instant classic of an animated movie, Avatar: The Last Airbender has seen too many failed attempts at its live adaptations, but the original still stands unmatched.
In the world of Avatar, some people are able to bend the elements, and one chosen can bend all four of them — and this time, it’s a boy who must also save the world.
You can watch Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix and Apple TV.
9. House (2004–2012)
When it comes to fan favorite fictional sociopaths, few characters stand as popular as Dr. House (save for BBC’s Sherlock who famously did not have a perfect finale). The cynical and anti-social House is a brilliant medic who saves lives in cases his colleagues can’t crack, but he does it while being a massive thorn in their backs.

Doctor Who is currently airing its fourteenth season with Ncuti Gatwa as the new Doctor. The modern revival which has been going on since 2005 has been able to entertain audiences with its quirky sci-fi tropes and many actors bringing in their own spin of the Doctor over the years. One of the people responsible for its success behind the scenes is writer Steven Moffat.

The writer went on to be the showrunner when Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi were the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors. Moffat returns for the current fourteenth season of Doctor Who writing one episode of the season. [This story contains major spoilers from the May 17 episode of Doctor Who, “Boom.”]
During Russell T Davies’ first time in charge of BBC behemoth Doctor Who, one of its regular writers often wrote some of its more memorable and popular stories.
Scottish writer, Steven Moffat, had made a sizable name for himself in the U.K. with television shows such as Press Gang and Coupling, and would bring new terrors to young Whovians in the form of Gask Mask Zombies and the Weeping Angels. When Davies came to leave the show, Moffat was the natural choice to replace him.
He cast Matt Smith (The Crown, House of the Dragon) as the youngest ever actor to play the role and made huge strides in the U.S. cementing Doctor Who’s popularity. Moffat would leave the role of showrunner after seven years (and after casting Peter Capaldi to play Smith’s successor).

Spoiler Alert: This story contains details of tonight’s Blue Bloods Season 14 midseason finale, which is the close of the first part of the NYPD family drama’s final season.
“Father, forgive me for I have sinned,” says New York Police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) in church in tonight’s Blue Bloods last midseason finale as he tries to repair a rift with his actual father, the former NYPD commissioner Henry Reagan (Len Cariou).
It ain’t the Sunday dinner that defines the well-watched CBS series, but it certainly was a moment of affirmation for perspicacious fans who may be speculating where their show is going to go in its final episodes after a long long run. Put another way, Blue Bloods may be ending later this year, but you’d never know it from the Season 14 midseason finale that aired tonight.

We’re so used to TV shows releasing new seasons on a yearly basis that when it doesn’t happen, we feel almost insulted, don’t we? Most fans barely tolerate a couple of months in delay, but for Reacher’s audience, Alan Ritchson’s latest update on Season 3 will come as an even tougher blow.
Reacher Star Gives an Upsetting S3 Update
Recently, Alan Ritchson took to his Instagram to post a Stories post with a Reacher Season 3 announcement. Normally, that would have been great news — an official confirmation of your favorite show’s next series, what’s not to love here? But apparently, something went distinctly wrong with Reacher S3’s production.
“The biggest name in action hits again in 2025,” the now-expired Stories caption read. The most attentive fans might have already noticed the issue, but we’ll spell it out nonetheless: Reacher Season 3 was expected to arrive...

All the Yellowstone fans are waiting now until the last part of the final season of today’s most popular western series is finally out. There have been so many speculations on whatever is going to happen to the series regulars and what fate will face the infamous ranch.
For example, fans have been predicting the fall of the Dutton family headmaster, not only because it seems like a right thing to go with, but also because we know Kevin Costner will not be the part of the last episodes.
But rumor has it that Beth Dutton will be there, portrayed still by Kelly Reilly. The actress has been playing the part of Beth since the show premiered in 2018 and since then became the only character that awakens all sorts of emotions in fans, being this unstable master manipulator slash still lovable girlboss.

[This story contains spoilers from the first two episodes of Doctor Who‘s new season, “Space Babies” and “The Devil’s Chord.”]
BBC’s science-fiction powerhouse Doctor Who has launched its new season starring Ncuti Gatwa (Barbie, Sex Education) across the world on Disney+ with a two-episode premiere.
Showrunner Russell T Davies first performed the unenviable task of bringing the series back to the small screen in 2005, with actor Christopher Eccleston (HBO’s The Leftovers) in the lead role and launching it to new heights with almost 14 million viewers tuning in from the U.K alone.
Davies then left his showrunning duties in 2009, handing the franchise over to Sherlock’s Steven Moffat. But he returned for four specials celebrating Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary in 2023. And with it, he brought Gatwa to the role of the Time Lord.

Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, and Harold Lloyd were the clown jewels of silent comedy. Chaplin was off the screen in 1924; he was a year away from the release of one of his feature masterpieces “The Gold Rush.” Lloyd followed the blockbuster success of 1923’s “Safety Last!” in 1924 with the gems “Girl Shy” and “Hot Water.” And Keaton dazzled critics and audiences with the innovative “Sherlock Jr.” and the riotous “The Navigator.”
“Sherlock Jr.”, which opened in May 1924, was just Keaton’s third feature. Running a brisk 45 minutes, “Sherlock Jr” pushed the cinematic envelope. The stoic, deadpan comic plays a projectionist and janitor at a small-town movie theater who dreams, literally, of becoming a detective. He also discovers that he has a slick rival (Ward Crane) for his sweet girl (Kathryn McGuire). The slick even steals the pocket watch of the girl’s father and puts the blame on Buster. The renaissance of “Doctor Who,” which started its latest season this week, is a 20-year journey that is entwined with the establishment of a thriving TV production scene in South Wales, where it shoots, and the meteoritic rise of the production company Bad Wolf.
This dates back to 2003 when writer Russell T Davies was asked by the BBC’s then head of drama, Jane Tranter, to revive the show and to base the production in South Wales, an area hitherto known for coal mining and heavy industry. It was produced in 2004, overseen by BBC Wales head of drama, Julie Gardner.
When Tranter and Gardner relocated to Los Angeles to lead BBC Worldwide Productions and Adjacent Productions, they produced “Da Vinci’s Demons” for Starz, and again located the production in South Wales.

Looking at the crop of new scripted series selected by the broadcast networks for 2024-25, one cannot help but reminisce about the 20th anniversary of what may have been broadcast television’s greatest season ever.
The 2004-05 season introduced several genre-defying series — all but one based on original ideas — whose impact on TV storytelling is still being felt: Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, House, The Office and Veronica Mars. Remarkably, one of them, Grey’s Anatomy is still around, having just been renewed by ABC for Season 21, along with another show that premiered that same season, animated comedy American Dad!.
Aside from the fact that the current economic realities of the TV business will likely never support another drama going to 21 seasons, broadcast networks will also likely never take chances on so many unconventional ideas: a sci-fi drama on a deserted island that set the tone for modern genre fare, a...

Death is not permanent, not in the Multiversal saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe anyway. Of course, we have mourned the death of the beloved villain turned-hero with a glorious purpose, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki but we got him back with an even more interesting twist— further exploration of the character even without the inherent shadow of his brother, Thor, as depicted in the previous movies in the MCU.

Like Loki’s apparent death, fan-favorite Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man demise was perhaps the saddest part for any MCU fan. There could have always been more from the character but killing him off in the Avengers: Endgame made perfect sense and his death was glorious but with Deadpool & Wolverine, a lot can change.

Robert Downey Jr. has been instrumental in building the MCU and making it what it is today. Downey Jr.’s Iron Man was the first character that Marvel Studios kicked off within their planned cinematic universe. The character became the leader of the Avengers and also dealt with some personal issues and complexities within him in his solo films as well.
