Halo (2022)
Second season is sadly a downgrade
Season two is a six. What really pushed me to continue the series is the emotional attachment I have to the Halo universe. Visually it is a very valid cinematographic and photographic work and performs very well. Seeing Chief in his suit flanked by the Silver Team is always a great pleasure for the eyes. Seeing the Marines dying like cannon fodder, however, is a huge blow to the stomach, just like in the video game. The rest - script, acting and coherence with the original plot - are not even remotely up to the levels of the first season, which were certainly not high anyway. The downgrade is quite noticeable. The suspension of disbelief that is required of the viewer is definitely beyond the norm and becomes unbearable. Such a pity.
Mea Culpa (2024)
Another mediocre rich-lifestyle thriller
This is yet another thriller with extremely stupid characters doing extremely stupid things. It is impossible for me to empathize with complete idiots who get involved in a dangerous and immoral sexual relationship with their client, without any proof of his innocence. The plot is just too forced, just not plausible. The film has no rhythm, no surprises, no emotion. The actors are soulless and have no chemistry, and the dialogues are banal, nearly comical. The ending is illogical. Did't appreciate it at all, I found a direction that was unable to involve me in the story that the screenplay wanted to tell.
SKAM Italia (2018)
*dies of cringe*
Skam Italia, in its attempt to explore adolescent dynamics, blatantly embodies the term "cringe." Unfortunately, acting proves to be one of the series' major weaknesses. Characters often seem out of context, and their portrayal is annoying, lacking authenticity and emotional depth. This negatively impacts the viewer's immersion in the narrative.
Dialogues, another crucial element, turn out to be boring, useless, and characterized by a slowness that compromises the plot's rhythm. The lack of meaningful phrases or intriguing debates leaves a void that isn't satisfactorily filled. This contributes to an overall disappointing experience for viewers seeking engaging and well-written storytelling.
The frequent reliance on clichés represents another point of criticism. The series seems to depend too often on stereotypical and predictable situations, lacking originality and freshness. This formulaic approach to storytelling significantly reduces the emotional impact and viewer interest in the plot's developments.
Characterization, a key element for the success of any story, is a real sore point. The inability to give depth and nuances to the protagonists means that the audience fails to connect with them. Instead of eliciting empathy, characters risk generating a feeling of disdain as their actions and motivations appear unconvincing and often inconsistent.
In conclusion, Skam Italia unfortunately falls into the realm of what I would define as "cinematic trash." The combination of lacking acting, banal dialogues, and poorly characterized characters makes this series a challenging recommendation for viewers looking for quality and original content. Hopefully, future productions can learn from these shortcomings, improving the overall quality of television narratives.
Archive 81 (2022)
Why are the main characters always so stupid
The conditions for a very valid and interesting story were there. The series lays a solid foundation but proves incapable of developing it well. The episodes flow well, writers hype you up by progressively adding a large amount of elements (paranormal, occultism, multiverse, demons, aliens, divinities, TIME TRAVEL?) but they fail, as expected, to make them work and make everything fit together in a satisfactory way. Added to this are the main characters who do blatantly stupid things 'to keep the business going' (almost all the disaster of the last two episodes could have been avoided simply if Melody had escaped with Jess out the window. Big facepalm). A mixture of incomprehensible things comes out, you end up wondering a thousand times during the viewing whether what you saw was an extremely important passage or yet another, unnerving, plot hole. Nothing ends up really making complete sense in this story.
Archive 81 could be way more entertaining than that. They should have expected a little less from themselves.
Significant Other (2022)
Big facepalm movie. LOL
Nothing makes sense in this movie. I lost count of plot holes while I was watching it. I prayed the whole time that something interesting would come out, and in fact in the second half of the movie there is an almost well-conceived plot twist, which is also why I didn't give a star. Unfortunately that is really the only thing that manages to keep the attention beyond the threshold of sleep. The rest of the movie fluctuates between ultra boring and ridiculous.
Seriously, the writers ran out of ideas at one point and decided to introduce TERMINATOR. Anyone who has seen the film already knows what I'm talking about.
Basically, the acting is shameful, the ending is not an ending, the dialogues are boring and useless like a supercazzola. This movie is really bad, believe me.
Beautiful Disaster (2023)
Cringiest movie i've ever seen
This movie is so full of cliches that you can literally predict every single thing that happens.
Characters characterization is absent, there is no introduction to the protagonists. Screenplay writers just pretend you to empathize with them without knowing a heck about them.
Acting is so bad, extremely cringe and obsolete-looking. You end up hating the whole cast. And that is what i actually do.
Abby is so dumb and acts nonsense in the last part of the "movie". A bunch of plot holes, so many that this film end up being a plot hole itself wtf!!!
I don't know what else can i say about this piece of crap movie.
Jaula (2022)
Nice and original idea
I'll be honest, this movie is nothing special.
The only two great things I would like to point out are:
- The plot idea on which the film is based, which is remarkably original, although it is surrounded by events that are anything but original, sometimes almost cliché. Nothing astonishing, but it does his job, and that's enough.
- The direction, which manages to keep the viewer on their toes when necessary. Climax moments are well sustained.
Everything else here is mediocre. Some sequences are literally facepalm, while others flow well, and take you to the end of the movie. Some things remain unexplained, and that creates some plot holes. The ending is a bit hasty, though.
The Night House (2020)
A complete opera
It's not a masterpiece, in the sense that it doesn't particularly excel in any way - except for the way it creates suspense, that has been, as far as I'm concerned, divinely successful - but it absolutely deserves the viewing. This is because this is a complete work.
Whole, this is the word that best describes this movie. There is nothing astonishing, but nothing is missing, there is everything: there's suspense, acting's very good and professional, there's a well written script and above all there is a story. An interesting story, which keeps the viewer thinking and looking for details during the whole movie duration. A story that has a very specific beginning and end. No writer's block and endings thrown to trash, as sadly is happening with a lot of psychological thrillers I've seen lately. This is how a movie should be done.
The Watcher (2022)
The (time)Waster
This show comes with some very interesting elements. I'm serious: during the first episode I was pretty sure this was going to be a good cinematic work. One of those TV series where you have to pay attention to details and characters to really understand the ending.
And so it is.
I caught the details, I caught the names and faces of the characters and I caught their sentences, the words they used. I brought them with me up to the seventh episode. The tension was building up and I was preparing myself for a satisfying and stunning ending.
Needless to say how it went. Do not expect to receive answers when you finish the vision. All you get is disappointment and anger.
