Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Once At All Everywhere Everything
Just when a you thought the farting corpse of Harry Potter coming back to life to learn about what it means to be alive would be the weirdest thing created, comes a film where a Chinese mother is able to tap into any one of the infinite number of versions of herself to fight an evil threat to existence. And it's good. It's really good.
You already know that by the time two rocks appear and have only a subtitled conversation for 10 minutes that this is a masterpiece.
It's got a heart at the center of the madness that conveys its message with such genuine writing that you I can't help but feel for each different multiversional character you meet. It's a try celebration of the people who make cinema and the people who go to see it and cherish it forever.
Everything Everywhere All At Once is one of the only films ever to make sense because it has ideas and scenarios that don't make sense making sense for the story. Does that make sense?
Go see and go see again. I already can't wait to own this movie at home, but until that day comes the theater experience is the best possible way to truly feel this movie come to life.
Event Horizon (1997)
Soooo baaaaaad
It's just awful. A serious movie that's funny or a funny movie that's serious? Nope nope nope. Dumb dumb dumb. The logistics of this film are ridiculous. It'll make you mad so just watch Alien and know that that is how you do it the right way. Please never again.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Why is this movie?
12 nominations? Best picture? Really? Give me a break. First half of the film has promise, until the movie kinda sidelines Kirsten Dunst's character and has no ultimate payoff.
This movie is cinematic mediocrity. Go watch Dune instead.
Police Academy (1984)
Dumpster Fire Academy
It's pretty stupid. I give it a 6 because there are a few funny moments that stood out but if you're looking for a dumb comedy this...this is that. Go watch Airplane! Instead.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
The Mehtrix
If you know the original trilogy, leave it at that and leave this movie alone. It is a self devouring serpent from the moment it starts.
In a word: S L I M Y
Save your money and your sanity.
Chucky: An Affair to Dismember (2021)
NOW GO DO THAT VOODOO THAT YOU DO SO WELL!!!
The Child's Play universe plays by its own rules that continues to bend expectations. It was new, it was campy, it was brutal, and it was right where it needed to be.
Chucky is the show we need to remind us that when you have an idea that can still be explored past the first film, then many people will support and that's been clearer throughout the years.
My oh my this was the best episode of the season. This series has plenty of room to grow, with some of the writing and slightly better acting, but honestly I can't wait to keep continuing the journey with these characters.
Family Guy: Rock Hard (2021)
"Velcro" line is stuck in my mind. Well played.
Family Guy is doing what Family Guy does best: entertain. This episode has elements that poke fun at music moments in history with their own sick & twisted way of making us laugh at uncomfortable things in life. Cheers, FG.
Dave: Enlightened Dave (2021)
This IS the best episode of DAVE yet!
Really it is the single greatest episode to fully capture the growth of every character that's been introduced. The symbolism is brilliant and the beats hit very damn well.
Thanks lil dih.
In the Heights (2021)
Spanish, Mother Flubber! Do you speak it?!
Don't worry. This musical includes and begs you to dive deeper into the culture, not just the Latin culture but the genuine musical culture.
IN THE HEIGHTS has been one of the single most fun musical movies I've ever laid eyes on. It's the rare kind of movie magic that captures the essence of the stage musical and amps it up to make sure you don't forget it. There's also much more appropriate level of Lin-Manuel Miranda inclusion, because I'll be the honest one and say he should not have been Alexander Hamilton (Ramos was the obvious choice), but the Piragua guy was the role Lin was meant to play. The watchful eyes of the show's creator being there just enough to not take away from the incredible main characters incredible voices.
Stay after the credits for the moment I've all been waiting for
Great fantastic film that I will rewatch as much as I can before it's off the sacred HBO Max.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
SPIRAL DELIVERS
It's got a game. It's got traps. It s got dark humor peppered throughout and it works for what they were trying to make. This is the film Chris Rock meant to make and that ending, YES THE ENDING, is a standout of the Saw series.
I almost want to see a film about the copycats getting there punishments in the traditional John Kramer ways, with a real winnable edge that has a purpose.
Excellent work done and I can't wait to see what's in store for the next film.
Cruella (2021)
If she doesn't scare you....then just watch 101 Dalmations
Ah yes, CRUELLA. Another mediocre excuse for a villain origin story
It definitely looks great and I love me a good soundtrack, but it is all UNNECESSARY. There was no need to devise an idea like Cruella De Vil using her old school friend and a fired lawyer to breed a bunch of Dalmatians for later use.
Honestly, an entertaining movie was somewhere in there, but if only for a different company. Imagine a truly PG-13 version.
School of Rock (2003)
One of THE MOST IMPORTANT FILMS of ALL TIME
This is the one movie to give to you the fundamentals of rock and roll music. It gives you the story of a nobody becoming a somebody. And, honestly, you'd have to have a heart of sludge to if you don't feel the true rise of each kid's talent over the course of the film.
PS. Special props to the End Credits. One shot. Glory.
Thank you, Mr Jack Black
Man Seeking Woman (2015)
We all know a Tanaka
Now this is a show that makes a lasting impact with a simple premise and a ludicrous execution that can only be toured as an awesome underrated series that's worth a watch.
Gravity Falls (2012)
A Trimasterumphpiece
This show brought my soul back to life and reenergized my creativity in new ways. The lessons learned and the journey traveled is phenomenal from start to finish. Thank you Alex Hirsch.
You kinda rule dude.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 3: The Sin (2019)
I smell a cult classic here
The way they treat each episode as it's own film experience is brilliant. The main antagonist is set, and we're off to really explore more of the far, far away galaxy
Lady and the Tramp (2019)
How to remake a beloved classic
After sitting through the emotionless pit of despair that was the unnecessary CGI remake of The Lion King (2019), I was skeptical to watch another remake of a beloved Disney classic. Since having the streaming service I was eventually going to watch it just for the hell of it.
I just finished it and I was absolutely moved in ways I wasn't expecting. They went with a Disney classic type of film rather than a shot for shot cash grab. This was a story that was told beautifully by the dogs and the CGI team at work. Had there been some more movement on the mouths when they were singing, I would've been more impressed. Regardless, this had one thing that made a classic like this so memorable: the music. The soft harmonies of the 1920's to set the mood of the movie. Truly is a treat to take in from the very beginning of the film. The color blind casting is a nice touch to help draw in all audiences.
There's enough here to feel gleeful at and just sit back and let the magic of a Disney film keep you starry-eyed. It's funny, heartfelt, and it's the kind of thing that should be taken notice of for future remakes (i.e., Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet)
The Mandalorian: Chapter 2: The Child (2019)
Sheer Genius
The writing, the cinematography, the compelling soundtrack. This show gets better. And I mean better.
There's no reason not to believe that you're instantly transported into the world of Star Wars.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 1: The Mandalorian (2019)
A Pilot. Get it?
The western feel. The protagonists all laid out. The story set to unfurl. And a twist to pick things up.
This episode is an introduction not to be missed.
The Mandalorian (2019)
A Whole New Not So New World
I'm already obsessed with the setup, the story, the characters, and the hopeful future for Star Wars storytelling.
Shoutout to the man, Ludwig Göransson for perfectly recapturing the classic feel and tone of the universe created.
Rick and Morty: Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat (2019)
Hello, Morty. My old friend. I've come to Rick with you again.
A season premiere that is wild, entertaining, and is the summary of the sheer genius of this show. Never have I ever been more proud to be a part of this fan base.
Keep the goods keeping on gooding.
Cobra Kai (2018)
TV is here to stay
This has quality character development and fantastic storytelling. Season 3 can't come soon enough.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Not a movie. A film. A brilliant, beautifully animated cinematic thrill ride
Every shot. Every color. Every scene. This is the way to do a movie with honesty and commitment.
Tron: Legacy (2010)
Just what the doctor ordered
This is a film. Depth at some of its cinematic finest.
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
The villain within
Just when you thought it was safe to back in the Blackwater. This episode was intense! Unforgivable carnage everywhere you turn. And one very dramatic final shot that overstays it's welcome. But in the end, that's television.
