Updated: Primates ruled over the North American box office, as “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” collected $58.5 million in its first weekend of release.
That’s ahead of Sunday’s estimates of $56.8 million and enough to score the third-best opening of the year behind “Dune: Part Two” ($82 million) and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” ($80 million).
Inaugural sales for “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” landed above early projections of $50 million to $55 million and towered over the nonexistent competition. “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” opened roughly even with two of the three prior installments in the rebooted franchise, landing behind only 2014’s “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” (a series-best $72 million) and ahead of 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes” ($56.2 million) and 2011’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” ($54.8 million).

Quentin Tarantino loves film. Few filmmakers can boast such a wide knowledge of movies, especially the B-films and grindhouse works that have inspired his greatest cinematic accomplishments. Tarantino also loves to talk about future projects. Put those two passions together and you get a guy who often teases movies he never actually ends up making.
Of course, it’s not always talk. Many of his best movies, including Kill Bill and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood started as ideas that he blabbed about to anyone who would listen. But while that approach builds excitement, it also sets up fans for disappointment, such as when it was revealed that he had abandoned The Movie Critic, which for months was teased as the director’s 10th and final film.
Now including The Movie Critic, here are the most intriguing Tarantino projects that never got made.

If you had to choose which horror movie villain you could outlast, chances are Chucky would be at the top of most peoples’ lists. Come on, he’s like two and a half feet tall, how could you not win? Why not just kick him across the room? Well, this can work every now and then, but Chucky is one diabolical doll and sooner or later he’ll find a way to get you. But imagine this gets swapped: Chucky is the oversized one matching wits and knives with someone – or something – a fraction of his size. That’s just the scenario Devon Sawa pictures, wondering what it would be like if the hand from Idle Hands were to take on the Good Guy.
Speaking with Collider, Devon Sawa – who has appeared in every season of Chucky so far, albeit as different characters – said that the possessed appendage of Anton...

Despite evident passion from the film-makers, this personal transformation through sporting achievement story borders on parody
Traditionally, genre labels gave a broad sense of what kind of experience you might be in for, whether horror, comedy or action. In the streaming era, things are much more specific, with platforms such as Netflix offering ever more niche microgenres: “Cynical Comedies Featuring a Strong Female Lead” for example, or “Classic Feelgood Opposites-Attract Movies”. Bobcat Moretti feels tailor-made for this kind of categorisation. Here we have an “Inspirational Personal Transformation Following Tragic Life Event Sports Movie”, in which a man with multiple sclerosis takes up boxing as part of an effort to turn his life around after a horrific family tragedy.
The passion and commitment of the film-makers are evident. Starring as the eponymous Bobcat, Tim Realbuto also co-wrote the script (with director Rob Margolies) and lost 70kg (11st) during the course of making the film.

On the passing yesterday of actor Louis Gossett Jr., An Officer and A Gentleman director Taylor Hackford and Roots co-star LeVar Burton remembered their late colleague and friend.
“One of the best to ever do it!,” Burton posted on X/Twitter. “Thank you, Lou… for everything!”
In a statement to Deadline, Hackford said:
“The role of Master Sargent Foley in An Officer and A Gentlemen was written as a white man. When I visited the Navy Officers Flight Training Center in Pensacola, Fla, I discovered that many of the Drill Instructors there were men of color. I found it interesting that Black & Brown enlisted men had ‘make-or-break’ control over whether white college graduates would become officers and fighter pilots.
“At that moment I changed the casting profile for Sergeant Foley and started meeting actors of color. Lou Gossett came to see me – I knew and admired his stage work.

The event was a needed boost to the actor and activist’s campaign: In the Democratic primary race, Harper is facing Rep. "Humans are the greatest weakness in any security system." Peacock has revealed an official trailer for a film called Bosco, a prison escape thriller based on a true story. Finally something that might just live up to the classic Escape from Alcatraz! Hopefully. Based on the true story of Quawntay "Bosco" Adams, who also produced the film. Sentenced to 35 years for attempted possession of marijuana, Adams miraculously escaped from a Federal maximum-security prison in 2006 while under 24-hour surveillance in solitary with the help of a woman he met through a lonely-hearts ad. This features a compelling cast including Aubrey Joseph as "Bosco", Nikki Blonsky as "Tammy", Tyrese Gibson as "Tootie", Vivica A. Fox as "Willa", Theo Rossi as "Ramos", and Thomas Jane as "Hunt". Bosco will feature original music from leading hip-hop artists, including Snoop Dogg, French Montana, The Game, Ddg, & more. Looks solid though probably not a new prison escape classic.

One week after the anticipated season 11 return of Vanderpump Rules, Tom Sandoval will mark his return to the Lifetime cinematic universe with a movie that — like his Bravo unscripted series — focuses on a relationship marred by deception.
On Thursday, Lmn (Lifetime Movie Network) announced its upcoming slate of original films for the first three months of 2024, including Tall, Dark and Dangerous, set to air Feb. 8. Sandoval appears in the thriller that debuts just one week after Vanderpump Rules returns with the continued aftermath to the Scandoval controversy, which centered on last year’s revelation that Sandoval cheated on longtime partner Ariana Madix with Raquel Leviss.
Tall, Dark and Dangerous is a Valentine’s Day-themed movie about Alice (Jamie Bernadette) realizing that Chris (Matthew Pohlkamp), the seemingly perfect guy she met on a dating app, is not the person he seems and actually stole the identity of his former roommate, played by Sandoval.

“People ask me, where are all the great exploitation movies today? The low-budget horror films? They’re on the Lifetime Network!” Shudder’s horror host Joe Bob Briggs once said, and he’s not entirely wrong about that. There’s plenty of entertainment value to be found in Lifetime’s particular brand of thriller, and a new year brings along with it a brand new slate.
Deadline reports on Lifetime’s Quarter 1: 2024 slate of original thrillers this afternoon, which promises fourteen brand new thrillers premiering here in the early months of the year.
Here’s the full lineup of Lifetime thrillers in the first quarter of 2024…

Twelve seasons is a pretty, pretty, pretty good run for any television series, and it’s officially time for Curb Your Enthusiasm to take a bow. That’s right, folks. Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12 will be the show’s last hurrah.
Confirmation for the end of Curb Your Enthusiasm comes from Larry David, who says he wants to return to his natural, lovable personality and engage in humanitarian work to celebrate the show’s end. That last part is a joke, of course. Right, Larry?
“As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character,” said David. “And so ‘Larry David,’ I bid you farewell. Your misanthropy will not be missed. And for those...

Adam Bold, the self-made millionaire and majority owner of talent representation firm A3 Artists Agency, has been hit with a lawsuit from his partners accusing him of sexual misconduct and running the company into the ground.
In court papers filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, agency CEO Robert Atterman and president Brian Cho accused Bold of plunging the company into financial chaos with overspending, squeezing out leadership in a proposed sale of parts of A3 to rival agency Gersh, and developing a reputation as “office creep” and “sex pest” to nearly 200 employees.
“In an astonishing run of terror, Bold has squandered everything,” the filing reads. “A3 is in a state of chaos and dissolution as its agents jump off the sinking ship and flee to A3 competitors, or wait in shock and fear for the next shoe to drop.”
