Brad Pitt and George Clooney are back together on film — outside of the “Ocean’s” cinematic universe.
The duo co-star in action-comedy movie “Wolfs,” which is written and directed by Jon Watts. In “Wolfs,” Clooney plays a professional fixer hired to cover up a high-profile crime. But when a second fixer (Pitt) shows up and the two “lone wolves” are forced to work together, they find their night spiraling out of control in ways that neither one of them expected. Just another night in the fixer industry, we imagine.
Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, and Poorna Jagannathan co-star in “Wolfs.”
Both Clooney and Pitt produce the film, as do Watts, Grant Heslov, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dianne McGunigle. Michael Beugg executive produces.
Watts is also making a Steven Spielberg-inspired “Star Wars” series for Disney+ that will star Jude Law. Watts was actually supposed to direct the “Fantastic Four” reboot,...

In 1985, Steven Spielberg brought Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Color Purple, to the big screen and racked up Academy Award nominations for himself, for the film’s stars, Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg and Margaret Avery, and the film’s composer, Quincy Jones. Warner Bros. now re-adapts the story based on the musical version from director Blitz Bazawule, a multi-medium artist whose breakout first feature is the highly acclaimed The Burial of Kojo.
The official synopsis from Warner Bros. reads,
“A story of love and resilience, The Color Purple is a decades-spanning tale of one woman’s journey to independence. Celie faces many hardships in her life, but ultimately finds extraordinary strength and hope in the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood.”
This new incarnation of the classic story features an ensemble cast that includes Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), SAG Award winner and Tony Award nominee Danielle Brooks,...

‘The Color Purple’ Musical Showcases Halle Bailey and Fantasia Barrino in Bold First Trailer (Video)
Oprah Winfrey said at this year’s CinemaCon that director Blitz Bazawule’s musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel is “not your Mama’s ‘Color Purple’,” and based on the first trailer, she’s right. Warner Bros. released the first trailer today, and between cinematographer Dan Laustsen’s cinematography and Fantasia Barrino’s soaring vocals, there’s enough packed into two minutes to bring out all the emotions.
Like Walker’s groundbreaking 1982 novel on which the musical is based, this feature follows Celie (Barrino as an adult and Phylicia Pearl Mpasi as a child), a Black woman struggling to survive in the South during the 1900s.
We see several sequences similar to what director Steven Spielberg had in his own adaptation of Walker’s book, released to theaters in 1985, including scenes of young Celie and her sister, Nettie (played by “Little Mermaid” star Halle Bailey as a teen) sitting in a tree,...

The official (uncensored) trailer for Paramount Pictures’ Babylon begins with Margot Robbie’s character Nellie Laroy snorting a line and confessing that if she had money, she’d only spend it on things that were fun. “Not boring things like taxes,” she adds.
Next up is the introduction of Brad Pitt’s character who explains that when he came to LA there were signs on all the doors that read: “No actors or dogs allowed.” He claims to have changed that, but doesn’t explain if he’s referring to the two or four-legged subjects. The trailer then spotlights clips of partying mixed with the filming of a medieval battle scene, an elephant walking through a packed club, and Brad Pitt doing a little dance before falling over a balcony.

Old Hollywood makes a return to the big screen later this year in Oscar-winning “La La Land” and “First Man” director Damien Chazelle’s new film “Babylon,” but this is far from a sanitized take on 1920s Tinseltown.
Paramount Pictures has unveiled some first-look images from “Babylon” that showcase Chazelle’s impressive ensemble, including Brad Pitt as an established movie star and Margot Robbie as an ingénue on the rise.
Described as a tale of outsized ambition and outrageous excess, the story traces the rise and fall of multiple characters during an era of unbridled decadence and depravity in early Hollywood. Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” starring Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace, Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd, along with a quick glimpse at the classic characters played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis.
Murray, Akroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts and Ramis were a part of the original 1984 hit, along with its sequel “Ghostbusters II” in 1989. After Ramis’ death in 2014, it was unclear if a third installment with the original cast was going to take place.
Sony produced an all-female reimagining of the film in 2016, starring Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Melissa McCarthy. After that installment underperformed at the box office, Sony brought on Jason Reitman as co-writer and director for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” who brought in a younger cast and got the original stars to agree to being part of the film.
“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” will also feature Shelby Young and Sarah Natochenny in voice acting roles.

The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man is returning to the “Ghostbusters” movie franchise — the time in miniature form.
In a new clip for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” Paul Rudd’s character meets the mini version of the giant monster that terrorized New York in the original 1984 film.
Rudd is seen loading up on ice cream in a grocery store when he decides he needs some toppings. He heads to the aisle where they’re stored, where a Mini-Puft tears itself out of its packaging.
And not just one, as Rudd discovers. Mini-Pufts have run amok in the store, commandeering a robotic floor cleaner. They also appear to be masochists, impaling and setting themselves on fire to create smores. Suffice to say, they’re anything but sweet!

The first trailer for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” starts off slowly in a sleepy Oklahoma farm town with a struggling family down on their luck … but things heat up pretty darn fast.
A single mother (Carrie Coon) and her two kids (Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard) move to Oklahoma to “pick through the rubble of their grandfather’s life after he died.”
Before you know it, strange rumblings under the ground get everyone on edge, leading to the revelation that the deceased grandfather wasn’t a small-town farmer after all — but was actually Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), and luckily he kept his ghostbusting gear in the shed.

Ghostbusting has left the mean streets of New York City and set up shop in the countryside. Set 30 plus years after the original film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife” stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd.
But despite the location change, the first Busters Dan Aykroyd and original film director Ivan Reitman, are heavily involved with this franchise restart with Reitman’s son Jason at the helm as the new director.
This new “chapter” in the Ghostbusters universe unveils a sort of supernatural peace that has settled across the globe after ghostly chaos reigned in the 80s. Here’s the plot: “A single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.”

Jason Reitman’s “Ghostbusters” sequel and reboot has a new title ahead of a trailer set to drop on Monday. “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” will open in theaters July, 10, 2020.
Reitman takes over directing duties from his father Ivan Reitman, and the new film stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd.
Vanity Fair had a first look at Rudd, Wolfhard and Grace in the film, which is set in modern day and ties back into the “Manhattan Crossrip of 1984,” or the giant cataclysm that the Ghostbusters had to stop and that spawned a giant marshmallow man demolishing New York.

The Directors Guild of America handed out their 2017 awards to some of Hollywood’s most accomplished and promising visionaries Feb. 4. There may be only five slots for directors at the Academy Awards, but the 69th annual DGA Awards spread the love across multiple categories, including among its winners Damien Chazelle, Garth Davis, Becky Martin, and Miguel Sapochnik. As voted upon by guild members, the top award—outstanding directorial achievement in a feature—went to Chazelle for “La La Land” (a Lionsgate-distributed film). The writer-director and Golden Globe winner bested Garth Davis for “Lion” (The Weinstein Co.), Barry Jenkins for “Moonlight” (A24), Kenneth Lonergan for “Manchester by the Sea” (Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions), and Denis Villeneuve for “Arrival” (Paramount Pictures). Chazelle’s assistant directors and production managers are included in the honor: Michael Beugg, Peter Kohn, Paula Case, Bart Lipton, Brett Robinson, and Dodi Rubenstein. Today, the Directors Guild of America (or DGA) announced their nominees, further shaping the Oscar race. They come hot on the heels of yesterday featuring the American Society of Cinematographers (or Asc) announcing, as well as the Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild. Earlier today, before DGA, the Costume Designers Guild announced too. They’ll all be seen, but the DGA is the one to focus on. They’re the precursor of this lot that’s truly going to shape the race. Historically, you try not to bet against the majority of DGA nominees scoring with Oscar. It’s just a very predictive and powerful guild… As you’ll see momentarily below, the DGA wound up citing the usual three suspects in Damien Chazelle for La La Land, Barry Jenkins for Arrival, and Kenneth Lonergan for Manchester by the Sea. From there, things got interesting. Many pundits, myself included, had predicted...

Breaking through a long-standing color barrier, "Precious" director Lee Daniels is the first African-American to be nominated for the Directors Guild of America's best director award.
Kathryn Bigelow, director of "The Hurt Locker," also contributed to the diverse array of nominees announced Thursday, becoming just the seventh woman to be singled out in the DGA's feature film category.
The two will contend for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film with James Cameron, nominated for "Avatar"; Jason Reitman, who booked a ticket to the awards ceremony with"Up in the Air"; and Quentin Tarantino, who made the cut with "Inglourious Basterds."
The winner will be announced at the 62nd annual DGA Awards on Jan. 30 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City.
"Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push" by Sapphire" has been something of a Cinderella story ever since it first debuted at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
