The chants and shouts of pro-Palestinian demonstrators disrupted the entry to the Washington Hilton for this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, but once inside, attendees were greeted with what has become the usual scene: Celebrities on the red carpet, a crush for the security line and glitterati packed into a cavernous ballroom.
“I want to thank my wife for enduring lots of jokes and for agreeing to individually meet everyone in this room right after the ceremony,” the evening’s featured entertainer, Colin Jost, quipped about Scarlett Johansson, who posed for photos with a non-stop stream of attendees. She continued to do so later in the evening, at the Comcast-nbcu after party at the French ambassador’s residence.

There have been rumors that New York Jets’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers might be part of the Presidential campaign for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. With those rumors come reports of things that Rodgers said in the past about several things. Rodgers has been outspoken about his belief in conspiracy theories for years and this includes the Sandy Hook school shooting.
However, Rodgers is walking back those comments now. Here is what the NFL quarterback and possible politician had to say about the horrific school shooting.
Aaron Rodgers Releases Statement About Sandy Hook
On December 14, 2012, a school shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut shook the nation. The shooting left 26 people dead, including 20 young children. It was the deadliest mass shooting at an elementary school in United States history. However, there were some people led by Alex Jones who claimed the shooting was faked.
Jones claimed there was no school shooting.

Aaron Rodgers’ storied NFL career has recently been overshadowed by his headfirst dive into vaccine conspiracy theories. The backlash to the prospective Robert F. Kennedy Jr. vice presidential pick reached a fever pitch this week in the wake of a report that the Jets quarterback is also a Sandy Hook truther.
On Thursday, Rodgers responded to a CNN report featuring interviews with two individuals — including CNN’s Pamela Brown — who told the outlet that the Super Bowl champion claimed Sandy Hook was staged. “Sandy Hook never happened … All those children never existed.

You might call it CNN Headline News — for the streaming era.
Warner Bros. Discovery plans to unveil a 24/7 live-streamed news service called “CNN Max” on September 27, and indicated the outlet would focus initially on breaking news. Anchors including Jim Acosta, Rahel Solomon, Amara Walker, Fredricka Whitfield and Jim Sciutto have been given assignments, with Sciutto set to lead breaking news in the afternoons. Bianna Golodryga and Christiane Amanpour could also have roles, according to a person familiar with the situation.
CNN has fallen far behind its rivals when it comes to streaming, with Warner scuttling a nascent subscription-based streaming outlet, CNN+, last year. As the company recalibrated CNN’s strategy, however, MSNBC, Fox News Channel, ABC News and CBS News have all had opportunities to establish new programming for the broadband set, and to experiment while refining their brands in the space. CNN anchor Laura Coates has moved to CAA for representation, a move that could signal a new era of influence for the talent-agency giant at the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed news outlet.
In a broad overhaul of CNN’s schedule, Coates was recently named to anchor a new 11 p.m. hour at CNN, “Laura Coates Live,” where she will follow Abby Philip, who will hold forth at 10. CAA also represents Erin Burnett, who anchors CNN’s 7 p.m. hour. All told, CAA will represent two of five of the anchors who appear during CNN’s schedule between 7 p.m. to midnight., which usually represent some of the network’s most-watched hours.
In years past, CNN’s primetime was dominated by rival agency UTA, which continues to have a strong roster at CNN. The agency represents Philip — who left CNN for UTA — as well as Anderson Cooper, Jake Tapper, Don Lemon and Alisyn Camerota.

During the last two decades of her life, Judy Garland appeared as herself on over 40 TV programs and earned a pair of Emmy nominations as the star of her eponymous single-season variety show. 32 years after her untimely death, she was portrayed by Tammy Blanchard (24) and Judy Davis (45) in the ABC limited series “Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows,” which racked up 13 Emmy bids. Both actresses were honored for their work, with Blanchard triumphing in the Best TV Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actress category and Davis prevailing as the series lead.
20 years after her win, Blanchard remains the fourth youngest victor in the history of her category, and she currently ranks as its 10th youngest nominee after initially placing ninth. Two of the actresses who place higher on the list earned their bids prior to turning 17, with one having held the overall record for youngest acting winner for nearly four decades.

Five years after earning an Oscar nomination at age 19 for her debut performance in “Gaslight,” Angela Lansbury made her first small screen appearance on a 1950 episode of “Robert Montgomery Presents.” After three decades of building her TV resume, she received her first Emmy bid for the limited series “Little Gloria… Happy at Last” and, one year later, landed her most well-known role as Jessica Fletcher on “Murder, She Wrote,” which ultimately brought her a dozen nominations for Best Drama Actress.
In 2004, eight years after “Murder, She Wrote” ended, Lansbury picked up her 17th career bid and first in the Best TV Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actress category for her work in the CBS film “The Blackwater Lightship.” At 78, she was initially the seventh oldest woman to ever contend for the award, and has since moved to 10th place nearly two decades later. Before landing her most well-known role as Michaela Quinn on “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” in 1993, Jane Seymour had over three dozen TV credits to her name, most of which were movies or limited series. In 1988, her supporting turn in one of them – “Onassis: The Richest Man in the World” – brought her what remains her only Primetime Emmy award. The film, which focuses on Aristotle Onassis‘s life and career, features Seymour as his longtime romantic partner, Maria Callas, who he left to marry Jacqueline Kennedy.
Seymour, who began her acting career at age 19, was 37 when she took home the Emmy for Best TV Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actress. At the time, she was the sixth youngest woman to ever win the award, and she now ranks 10th. Of the actresses who place higher than her, two nabbed their prizes as teenagers.

One year after the conclusion of his medical drama series, “Nip/Tuck,” and two years into the run of his musical comedy series, “Glee,” Ryan Murphy ventured into a different genre by premiering his newest creation, “American Horror Story.” Initially presented as a one-time limited series, it soon evolved into an anthology program featuring a new story and characters each season. Despite the yearly changes, several actors, including Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Kathy Bates, have stuck around for as many as nine iterations.
Bates first joined Murphy’s company of actors as a regular on “American Horror Story: Coven” and has since played roles in four other seasons. Her initial gig as 19th century serial killer Delphine Lalaurie earned her vast critical acclaim and led to a Primetime Emmy win for Best TV Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actress. It’s such fun flashing back to Emmy ceremonies of yesteryear, and it’s interesting to see how they have evolved over time, and reflect on how much TV has grown and changed. In the early years, the categories were much different, with no distinction between dramatic and comedic performances; instead, there was a category for “Outstanding Continued Performance” (which came from ongoing series) and a separate one for “Outstanding Single Performance”. Going back six decades, there were only three networks competing, but some of the biggest names in the history of the medium were on the ballot, and some legendary performers presented, when Johnny Carson, Bob Newhart and David Brinkley hosted the 14th Emmy Awards on NBC on May 22, 1962. Read on for our Emmys flashback 60 years ago to 1962.

The term ‘filmed opera’ in no way describes this phantasmagoria. Powell & Pressburger re-envisions the Offenbach work with dance sequences refracted through a cinematic prism. It’s high art made for the movies, without the condescenscion seen in Disney’s Fantasia. The stars are Moira Shearer and Robert Helpmann. Powell perfects techniques from Black Narcissus and The Red Shoes to fuse music, theater, dance and cinema; Martin Scorsese calls it a ‘composed film.’ This full restoration reinstates footage not seen since the first previews in 1951.

Television drama matured in the early 1960s with gritty often controversial series shot on location including “The Naked City” and most notably “The Defenders,” which aired on CBS from 1961-65, winning 13 Emmys during its run including three consecutive Best Drama Series awards.
The legal drama starring E.G. Marshall and Robert Reed as father-and-son attorneys picked up its first four prizes at the 14th Primetime Emmy Awards on May 22, 1962. It also won for Marshall; helmer Franklin J. Schaffner (who went to pick up an Oscar for directing 1970 Best Picture Oscar champ “Patton); and Reginald Rose for writing.
Rose of “12 Angry Men” fame based the series on his two-part 1957 “Studio One” drama “The Defender” with Ralph Bellamy and William Shatner as the father-son attorneys and Steve McQueen as the defendant. For Rose, “The law is the subject of our programs, not crime, not mystery, not the courtroom for its own sake.

At home in Studio City, California, filmmaker Evgeny Afineevsky carefully unfolds a blue and white Ukrainian flag. The once bright hues are darkened with soot, the fabric frayed at the edges.
The banner sustained those battle scars in 2014 as it flew over Maidan Square in Kyiv, in the midst of a revolution to oust a pro-Russian leader and to reestablish Ukraine as a true democratic republic. Afineevsky was on hand as the drama unfolded, documenting it for his Oscar-nominated film Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom. As Ukraine attempts to stave off a Russian attack on the country, he says the invaders will learn how attached Ukrainians have become to liberty in the past eight years.
“These people will not be slaves. They will not go back into the former Soviet Union,” Afineevsky insists. “They have a taste of freedom. They became a part of the European society, and...

Though the Continental Congress severed political connections with Great Britain on July 4, 1776, with the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. has never detached with their obsession with the British Royal Family. Just look at 2021 Emmy nominations.
The fourth season of Netflix’ “The Crown” reaped 24 bids — the show has already won 10 Emmys — including series, for leads Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, Emma Corrin as Diana, the Princess of Wales and Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles and for supporting players Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret and Emerald Fennell as Camilla Parker Bowles. And Oprah Winfrey’s blockbuster interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was nominated for best hosted nonfiction series or special.

Jim Acosta’s mother recently sent him a text about his first stint as a weekend anchor for CNN. She loved his expression, perhaps with good reason. “I think my mother hasn’t seen my smile on TV in four years,” he says.
Wearing a grim visage might have come naturally. Acosta spent the past few years as CNN’s chief White House correspondent. The job is already a tough one that typically demands round-the-clock focus. In addition to covering the previous administration, however, Acosta frequently clashed with President Donald Trump on camera, and generated more than a few headlines about the network and himself in the process.
But Trump didn’t win a new term in office. And Acosta did.

Jake Tapper, the Washington-based correspondent for CNN, will likely get a new spotlight at the network after it said it would expand his weekday program to two hours and make him the lead anchor for all Washington events. As part of the changes, Abby Phillip will take over as anchor of the weekend broadcast of “Inside Politics,” while Dana Bash will co-anchor the Sunday talk program “State of the Union” with Tapper. Tapper and Bash will each anchor two Sundays a month, beginning January 24th.

Once again, Kino Lorber, a company grandly competing with other “Cadillac” DVD/Blu-ray publishers, has released an esoteric non-mainstream title from yesteryear that might have otherwise have remained under the radar screens of retro movie lovers.

A few years back the pioneering disc boutique Mondo Macabro imported a number of exotic Eastern horror films, such as Purana Mandir from India. Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger officially become ‘The Archers’ for this sterling morale-propaganda picture lauding the help of the valiant Dutch resistance. It’s a joyful show of spirit, terrific casting (with a couple of surprises) and first-class English filmmaking.

In a clip from an upcoming documentary set to air on CNN Monday night, the Democratic presidential nominee tells reporter Pamela Brown, "It was really hard. It was painful. And I was so supported by my friends. My friends just rallied around." Where was Leonard Pinth Garnell when we needed him? Joseph Losey is often accused of pretension but in this case he may be guilty. Robert Shaw and Malcolm McDowell are escapees scrambling across a rocky terrain, pursued by a helicopter that seems satisfied to just harass them. Patricia Neal ca. 1950. Patricia Neal movies: 'The Day the Earth Stood Still,' 'A Face in the Crowd' Back in 1949, few would have predicted that Gary Cooper's leading lady in King Vidor's The Fountainhead would go on to win a Best Actress Academy Award 15 years later. Patricia Neal was one of those performers – e.g., Jean Arthur, Anne Bancroft – whose film career didn't start out all that well, but who, by way of Broadway, managed to both revive and magnify their Hollywood stardom. As part of its “Summer Under the Stars” series, Turner Classic Movies is dedicating Sunday, Aug. 16, '15, to Patricia Neal. This evening, TCM is showing three of her best-known films, in addition to one TCM premiere and an unusual latter-day entry. 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' Robert Wise was hardly a genre director.
