In the near future a company specialising in cellular meat trial its synthetic technology in a bid to create the perfect child. Nicholas (Johnny Vivash) and Sarah (Kathryn Louise) are guinea pigs to this trial and are provided with a seemingly healthy son, after losing their own child to a genetic disease. As their new son, Isaac, develops he becomes increasingly violent and dangerous, leaving the parents with no choice but to lock him away and keep him hidden while they try to uncover the truth as to what is driving him insane.
Essentially a Frankenstein tale, with genetic modification at its core, Isaac is remarkable in that we don’t really see the titular character. Instead, the film follows Isaac’s parents as the joy of becoming parents for the second time, following the...

Druid Theatre Company’s presentation of Sean O’Casey’s century-old Dublin Trilogy begins with a knocking. At the start of this six-hour, tripartite production dubbed DruidO’Casey, a man raps loudly on a wall, presaging the moments across the plays in which characters bang and hammer on each other’s doors, often barging in without receiving a response. And if that’s just life in Dublin’s tenements, it’s also the pounding fist of history itself demanding an entrance: In the aftermath of seismic events in Ireland’s journey toward independence, O’Casey boldly forced audiences to consider the impact of the just-concluded revolution on the everyday citizens, especially women, who become collateral damage.
At the NYU Skirball Center, the three plays of the Dublin Trilogy can be experienced individually or, on DruidO’Casey’s marathon days, all at once. The trilogy, ordered here by the historical events that...

The history of Vikings is long and complicated. Originally living peacefully in their ancestral home, a changing landscape forced them to adapt, and spin off into new territories.
Now, I am not talking about the long history of the Viking people, but the distribution saga of the 2013 drama series.

This Vikings: Valhalla review contains spoilers for episode 1.
“After a long voyage on a small boat, a lot of things would sound good.”
Fourteen months have passed since Michael Hirst’s Vikings concluded its six season run, and fans of the History/Netflix series bade farewell to the Lothbrok clan. Nevertheless, the Viking saga continues with a spinoff created and written by Jeb Stuart. Vikings: Valhalla introduces Leif Ericksson and a host of new characters who immediately become embroiled in parallel tales of revenge. Though one hundred years have elapsed, the world in which we find ourselves still feels familiar, and viewers need only get comfortable with the changed landscape and the new crop of historical individuals.
The series premiere gets off to a bumpy start with some painfully stilted acting in the opening sequence, but “The Greenlanders” quickly gains its footing once the principals take center stage after The St.

With less than a month until the debut of “Vikings: Valhalla,” Netflix has dropped the final trailer for the “Vikings” sequel series — and it introduces several characters who will become heroes to the Danes.
Leif Erikson, the famed Viking who is believed to have made it to North America, is introduced in this new show, set about 100 years after the original “Vikings” series, in the 11th century. The trailer shows Leif (Sam Corlett) and his Greenland crew, including sister Freydis (Frida Gustavsson), facing off against monster-sized waves on their journey to the famed Kattegat.
The trailer also introduces Prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Stuer), another famed Viking from history, and shows him getting very, very bloody fighting the English.
“Vikings: Valhalla” sees the clash of the Vikings and the English royals as they reach a breaking point over their conflicting Christian and pagan beliefs.
The series, from executive producer Jeb Stuart,...

"Without fear, we are free!" Saban Films has unveiled an official trailer for the war film The Legion, from Spanish producer / director José Magán. Mickey Rourke and Bai Ling star in this epic tale of courage and heroism in a time of war. Set during the Roman–Parthian Wars, the film is about a Roman legion stuck in the snowy mountains of Armenia. Their only hope for survival is Noreno, a half-Roman soldier, who is entrusted with the impossible mission of crossing the deadly terrain to seek help for his men and turn the tide of the battle. Also starring Lee Partridge as Noreno, plus Joaquim de Almeida, Vladimir Kulich, Max Matveev, Bosco Hogan, Tristan McConnell, and Ciaran O'Grady. This looks a bit too bland, an excessive focus on one-on-one fights, and mostly people running through the wilderness. Still might be cool. Here's the official trailer (+ new poster) for José Magán's The Legion,...

There's good news and bad news for fans of The Tudors TV series. Showtime has announced that they're renewing it for a fourth season but it will be the historically-based show's last.
The Tudors is a fictional version of the reign of the King of England during the 1500's, King Henry VII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). Other historical players include Henry Cavill, Natalie Dormer, Nick Dunning, James Frain, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Padraic Delaney, Jeremy Northam, Jamie Thomas King, Anthony Brophy, Guy Carleton, John Kavanagh, Sam Neill, Callum Blue, Henry Czerny, Hans Matheson, David Alpay, Joe Van Moyland, Bosco Hogan, James Gilbert, Alan Van Sprang, and Peter O'Toole.
When the show debuted on April 1, 2007 to 870,000 viewers, it was reportedly Showtime's best premiere in three years. The series has held onto those numbers pretty well, attracting 726,000 for its third season premiere last week. The series has also been well-reviewed but it is an expensive epic to produce.
