The following contains major spoilers for "The Nun II."
Fire is one of the most potent and common elements seen in religious iconography, for very good reasons. It not only turns up as a representative of God in the Jewish and Christian faiths (the infamous "burning bush" seen by Moses), it also acts as a catch-all symbol for faith itself. Fire can be seen as an agent of purification, burning away sin and corruption. It can also be seen as a perpetual force that represents the staunch power of one's belief, often in the form of a lit candle.
It's no surprise, then, that fire is all over "The Nun II," literally and metaphorically. The movie is the 9th in the film series The Conjuring Universe, movies that began as fictionalized adaptations of the life and times of demon hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga...

The King, my lord, is dead. Viserys I of House Targaryen, First of His Name, King of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men (Paddy Considine), passed away fitfully in his sleep at the end of Episode 8 of “House of the Dragon.” He is survived by his wife, his daughter, and their children, who will probably all kill each other at any moment.
But as we bid farewell to the good king, we must ask ourselves: How exactly did he die? What plagued Viserys in his final hours — indeed, in his final 20 years of life? Over the course of Season 1, Viserys suffered a litany of ailments, from good ol’ fashioned purulent wounds to fainting spells to falling apart both literally and figuratively. Each week of “House of the Dragon” provided new symptoms and fresh hell for the dear departed king.
And so, here is an exhaustive list of what plagued King Viserys,...

House of the Dragon is a bonafide hit for HBO.
The ratings are in for House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 2, and the series experienced some growth.
One week after launching as the most-watched HBO series premiere ever, the Game of Thrones spinoff spiked 2 to 10.2 million viewers on Sunday night.
These numbers are for U.S. only, and the numbers are expected to be much higher as the weeks go on.
House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 1, which logged 9.98 million viewers earlier this month on its first night of release, is now approaching 25 million viewers in the U.S. alone.
HBO notes, however, that these numbers are based on a HBO Max and linear telecasts, based on a combination of Nielsen and first party data.
Given that many shows typically drop in the vicinity of 10 to 15 in their second weeks, this is a huge vote of confidence in the franchise.

“House of the Dragon” is coming in hot at HBO, netting an early Season 2 renewal less than a week after its series premiere.
The second-season pickup comes as little a surprise, given HBO’s financial investment in the show, as well as the fact that the premiere shattered HBO’s record for the biggest premiere audience for a new show ever. Nearly 10 million people tuned in across all platforms this past Sunday, with HBO now claiming that number has risen to 20 million after four days of playback.

HBO’s much-anticipated Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, begins with a voiceover explaining that the first century of the Targaryen reign is closing and King Jaehaerys Targaryen’s health is fading. Still, their House maintains complete control of the kingdom thanks to 10 powerful, adult dragons.
His sons have died and Jaehaerys believes the only thing that can tear down House Targaryen is House Targaryen. And so, in the year 101 he calls a great council to Harrenhal to choose an heir.
14 claims have been submitted but only two are considered: Princess Rhaenys Targaryen and Prince Viserys Targaryen, the king’s oldest male heir. The lords name Viserys (Paddy Considine) as king, and the woman who deserved it is passed over.
The story picks up during the ninth year of King Viserys I’s reign.

The much-anticipated Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon premiered on HBO Max with some hiccups for some subscribers. As the first episode was launched online, some users reported the app crashing which prompted them to seek help.
It is not known how widespread the issue has been as other users tweeted seeing the premiere episode available about three minutes before the 9 p.m. Et scheduled release. However, the @HBOMaxHelp Twitter account was experiencing a lot of traffic as subscribers tried to stream House of Dragon.
One user, in particular, said that they were getting a “title not available” error message, which customer service said they would “love to help to get this figured out.” Another user didn’t seem amused that the app “would crash” and HBOMaxHelp advised to “try closing the app and restarting to see if this helps.”

“This was the planets aligning,” says House of the Dragon co-creator Ryan J. Condal about teaming with Game of Thrones EP and director Miguel Sapochnik on the new George R.R. Martin HBO spinoff series. Condal and Sapochnik had previously developed a number of projects together before House of the Dragon.
You can listen to our intriguing conversation with the House of the Dragon EPs here:
Condal got to know Martin nine years ago when he was shooting his NBC supernatural western pilot The Sixth Gun in the author’s backyard of Santa Fe, Nm. He told his agents he was taking Martin to dinner in what he says was “light fan-stalking” and to “pick his brain.” At the time, Martin didn’t have Fire & Blood, the Targaryen history book, under his belt; that tome the source material for House of the Dragon. HBO dropped the first “House of The Dragon” teaser trailer and character posters on Thursday.
The teaser trailer, which you can watch above, shows life in the “Game of Thrones” world when the Targaryens ruled, about 200 years before the events of the HBO series that ran for eight seasons.
The footage shows heads of the Stark, Baratheon and House Velaryon families pledging fealty to Targaryen King Viserys and his heir, Princess Rhaenyra. And the princess gets a warning about the battle of the sexes as Rhaenys tells her “Men would sooner put the realm to torch than see a woman ascend the Iron Throne.”
It also hints at plenty of conflict and even bloodshed, with one of the characters remarking as the trailer closes, “History does not remember blood, it remembers names.”

Smith opened up about his role on the show in 2021. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he said that his role is "an interesting and dark and disturbed part to play." Even scarier than his character, he said, is his dragon, Caraxes. "He's big and red and angry," Smith said. "He's a really angry dragon.

HBO’s “House of the Dragon” cost under 20 million per episode to produce its 10-episode first season, which debuts Aug. 21, a source close to production told Variety.
For comparison, “Game of Thrones” cost HBO around 100 million per season. Its per-episode price tag began at roughly 6 million in Season 1 and rose to 15 million for the show’s eighth and final season.
If you’re wondering how HBO managed to keep the cost of “House of the Dragon” Season 1 from rising too much above what it paid for the final season of “Game of Thrones,” especially with even more CGI dragons expected to be flying around, the production insider says HBO is now so adept at these world-building series through years of not just “GoT,” but also producing “Westworld” and “His Dark Materials,” that the team can make a high-quality series as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Crucible, Sheffield; Cottesloe; Olivier, both London
For fans of the television series The Wire, it is impossible not to be on patrol, trying to spot detective Jimmy McNulty in Dominic West's Iago and Lester Freamon in Clarke Peters's Othello. But it is to the credit of both actors and to Daniel Evans's triumphant production at the Sheffield Crucible that such distractions do not persist as the tragedy gathers pace. Besides, Dominic West is in complete Shakespearean disguise as Iago. He has grown a beard, cut his hair savagely short, wears curious brown leather knickerbockers with slits in them and has acquired a Yorkshire accent to play the greatest villain of all time. The choice of accent is inspired because it sounds so trustworthy – it turns Iago into Mr Common Sense. Noisy comedy is this Iago's cover. You can imagine him propping up the bar at a 16th-century tavern,...
