Antoine Fuqua is a worker. Not only has he released two feature films in the past two years — Emancipation and The Equalizer 3 — but the director has also been directing and producing some big television projects as well. He helmed episodes of Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers and The Terminal List as well as executive producing Jeremy Renner’s hit show, Mayor of Kingstown. He is also well into the production of a colossal undertaking of capturing the dizzyingly epic and tragic life of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, in the biopic Michael. Now Deadline reports that Fuqua is developing a feature adaptation to the YA novel, Sky’s End, from New York Times bestseller debut author Marc J. Gregson.

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the short-lived anthology horror satire “Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters,” which aired on TruTV back in 2018.
Although these days it’s known mainly as the channel on cable that plays “Impractical Jokers” all day, every day, back in 2018, Tru TV sought out to try some different programming. After successfully pulling away from their line up of reality shows, the network aimed to deliver a hefty line up of original comedy series, many of which ended up being damn good.
Among the line up introduced, there was “Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters.” Comedian, actor, and director Goldthwait is no stranger to the horror genre (I loved his found footage film Willow Creek), and was the mastermind behind this delightfully unusual horror anthology series. Every week, “Misfits & Monsters” told a variety of half hour stories, all of which were a healthy mix of dark comedy,...

Judd Apatow didn’t want his freaks to disappear from Hollywood.
The multi-hyphenate writer/director/producer behind short-lived cult classic NBC series “Freaks and Geeks” was determined not to let the rising stars of the series fall to the wayside after the show’s untimely cancellation, according to actor Jason Segel.
“Freaks and Geeks” revolved around siblings Lindsay (Linda Cardellini) and Sam (John Francis Daley), who try to make friends in their new Detroit high school in 1980. Segel, Seth Rogen, James Franco, Busy Philipps, Martin Starr, and Samm Levine rounded out the ensemble cast for the teen series that ran from 1999 to 2000. Apatow executive-produced the series, created by Paul Feig.
According to Thea Glassman’s new book “Freaks, Gleeks, and Dawson’s Creek: How Seven Teen Shows Transformed Television,” Apatow did not want the series’ cancellation to deter the career paths of the cast.

In the final episode of the seminal high school TV comedy-drama Freaks And Geeks, titled ‘Discos and Dragons’, teenage nerd Sam Weir (played by John Francis Daley) is fed up. “I'm sick of being called a geek,” he complains to his friends. “I mean, what's so geeky about us, anyways? We're just guys.” Then, with perfect comic timing, his equally nerdy friend Harris (Stephen Lea Sheppard) approaches him in the school corridor and announces: “Gentlemen. Good news! New Dungeons & Dragons handbook. ‘Deities And Demigods’. We’re gonna have a fun Friday night!”
Criminally cancelled in 2000 after just one season, Freaks And Geeks was at the time perhaps the most accurate on-screen depiction of the fantasy tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. For a long time, D&d — with its high fantasy tropes, its fair maidens, its complex magic, its many-sided dice and its opaque, labyrinthine rules — seemed solely the domain of geeks.

[This story contains spoilers for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.]
If 2023 is any indication, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves filmmakers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley have leveled up.
The writing-and-directing duo’s fantasy adventure film, which is based on the beloved tabletop role-playing game, has been met with rave reviews from critics and audiences, and most impressively, they’ve managed to pull off the impossible by satisfying both D&d die-hards and newcomers to the world. Furthermore, Goldstein and Daley even have a story credit on one of the buzziest superhero films of all time, The Flash, which finally releases in June after first being announced in 2014. (The pair left the project as writer-directors in 2019 due to creative differences.)
Daley is most known for his role as the D&d-playing Sam Weir on the short-lived cult classic Freaks and Geeks, and when Paramount’s marketing department pitched a D&d-related reunion among Daley’s character,...

“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” seems like an absolutely delightful movie, and we can’t wait to see it. And helping us with that assessment considerably is an absolutely delightful new ad for the film that debuted earlier today.
The ad doesn’t actually contain any footage from the movie — you can watch one of those here, in case you need to see it again (you do). Instead, it hilariously reunites three of the stars of “Freaks and Geeks” to finally finish up that game of “Dungeons & Dragons” they played all the way back in the show’s final episode.
Now, we assume if you’re reading this you know what the previous paragraph is talking about, but just in case, “Freaks and Geeks” was a hugely influential single camera comedy-drama that ran for a single season from 1999-2000. Created by future “Bridesmaids” director Paul Feig and executive produced by Judd Apatow,...

It’s not our dream Freaks and Geeks reunion movie, but it’s the next best thing.
In an effort to promote his new film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (due out Friday, March 31; watch trailer), screenwriter/director John Francis Daley (fka Sam Weir) enlisted fellow former “Geeks” Samm Levine (who played Neal Schweiber) and Martin Starr (who played Bill Haverchuck) for another round of D&d — just like they played in the cult classic’s series finale, “Discos and Dragons.” And while they never refer to each other by character name, they’re totally back in character.

With Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves hitting theaters this Friday, writer/director John Francis Daley has hearkened back to his D&d playing days on Freaks and Geeks for a new promotional video. In the clip, Daley reunites with his former castmates Samm Levine and Martin Starr while joking about how a D&d movie would never happen.
23 years after the show went off air, Daley is back in character as Sam, who apparently has been playing a never-ending game with his friends Bill (Starr) and Neal (Levine). When Neal’s D&d character gets dissolved into “flesh and bone,” the trio finally realize they’re been playing for more than two decades.
“Time really flies when you’re playing D&d,” Neal says, before noticing Bill’s plentiful beard (and then his own). Meanwhile, the clean-shaven Sam jokes that he “hasn’t hit puberty yet” before suggesting someone...

We’re just one week away from the March 31st theatrical release date of Paramount Pictures’ Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which is based on the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game franchise – and just in case the positive reviews (there’s a bunch of them quoted in the final trailer) haven’t convinced someone to see the movie, Paramount is now using the Freaks and Geeks connection to try to lure in viewers. In the new ad that you can check out in the Twitter embed below, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves director John Francis Daley is reunited with Samm Levine and Martin Starr, his co-stars from the short-lived but beloved TV series Freaks and Geeks, which went off the air twenty-three years ago after just one season.

Comedy is what we need right now, says Nicholas Hytner, who ran London’s National Theatre for a decade.
It’s fine to have heavy-lifting dramas by Ibsen or Schiller, but boy-oh-boy laughter is an increasingly uplifting necessity.
Which is where Guys & Dolls and James Corden, post his life on The Late Late Show, come in.
Hytner, partnered with longtime executive Nick Starr, now own and control London’s Bridge Theatre and is overseeing a fully immersive revival of the classic Broadway musical Guys & Dolls, choreographed by Dame Arlene Phillips (Strictly Come Dancing) and now in early previews.
It stars Daniel Mays as Nathan Detroit, Andrew Richardson (A Call to Spy) as Sky Masterson, Celinde Schoenmaker (Rocketman) as Sarah Brown and Marisha Wallace (Aladdin) as long-suffering Miss Adelaide. Cedric Neal plays Nicely-Nicely Johnson. Also in the cast are Jordan Castle,...

Reboots may be all the rage, but one show that is likely never going to get another shot at the small screen is cult classic Freaks and Geeks, as co-star Seth Rogen is adamant that it shouldn’t be touched.
Speaking with People, Seth Rogen said of a potential Freaks and Geeks reboot, “I don’t think anyone would do it…It’s so rare that you do something in your career that is actually just viewed as good.” He added, “I know enough now not to f*ck with that, to just let it be good and not try to go revisit it…And just let it exist.”
As it exists, Freaks and Geeks lives on in just 18 episodes. But with its unique perspective on high school dynamics, killer soundtrack and incredible ensemble cast, it has garnered a massive cult following. Sure, we would have liked to have had...

Seth Rogen is shutting the door on a “Freaks and Geeks” revival.
Speaking with People magazine, the actor addressed the recent trend of reboots and his feelings that the original cast probably wouldn’t want to revisit the short-lived NBC series, either.

Different Duck Films has released an official trailer for an indie horror-thriller anthology film called Immortal, which premiered at the Screamfest Horror Festival last year. It's written, directed and produced by Rob Margolies, featuring a star-studded cast headlined by Tony Todd, Dylan Baker, Robin Bartlett, Samm Levine, Vanessa Lengies, and Agnes Bruckner. "Thrown into the face of death only to emerge unharmed, the characters of Immortal are left staring at eternity in the face with uncertainty and fear like they've never imagined." A chilling horror anthology film told in four chapters, Immortal boasts career-best performances from a cast that also includes Mario Van Peebles, Lindsay Mushett, and Jason Stuart. Yes this has a solid cast, but the segments seem quite derivative - stories about immortality, another game of hunt-or-be-hunted in the woods,...

So many other shows get reunions right? Why not a Freaks and Geeks reunion to see where everyone’s at on the show and possibly bring them together for a big hurrah? Linda Cardellini, James Franco, Jason Segel, Seth Rogen, Busy Phillips, Martin Starr, Samm Levine, and John Francis Daly would be a great idea to bring in since they’re who a lot of people are interested in, right? Getting them all in one place for one project might be kind of a chore but it does seem as though it could be done. As far as their careers after the

In the TV world, 1999 was a pretty important time. The multi-Emmy Award-winning drama series “The Sopranos” and “The West Wing” premiered that year, as did Nickelodeon’s beloved “SpongeBob SquarePants,” which has spawned two movies and even a Broadway musical, and Seth MacFarlane’s raucous Fox animated “The Family Guy.”
But one of the most fondly remembered series — which kicked off the careers of actors including James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, Linda Cardellini, Busy Philipps and John Francis Daley — didn’t even air its complete season. NBC’s high school dramedy “Freaks and Geeks” premiered Sept. 25, 1999, created by a pre-“Bridesmaids” Paul Feig and executive produced by Judd Apatow. The producing talent also included “School of Rock” writer Mike White and “Bad Teacher” director Jake Kasdan, and the show also featured guest stars including Ben Foster, Rashida Jones and a baby-faced Shia Labeouf. But after only averaging 6.8 million total live viewers for the season,...

Exclusive: The 2019 Screamfest Horror Film Festival has taken a bite out of Eat, Brains, Love, setting the Rodman Flender-directed zombie romantic comedy as its opening-night film. The annual genre fest will run October 8-17 at the Tcl Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood.
Eat, Brains, Love, which world premiered last month at the UK’s Frighfest, is about Jake (Jake Cannavale) and his dream girl Amanda (Angelique Rivera). The good news is she finally knows his name — but the bad news is both contracted a mysterious sexually transmitted zombie virus and devoured the brains of half their senior class. A teen psychic (Sarah Yarkin) sent by the government’s top-secret Necrotic Control Division is sent to track them down. Patrick Fabian also stars.
Mike Herro and David Strauss wrote the script based on the novel by Jeff Hart. The pic is produced by Tommy Coriale, Tony Disanto, Brian Hoff, Van Toffler and Cody Weig.

Inglourious Basterds was Quentin Tarantino's first slice of alternate history in which cinema takes revenge on the Nazis.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
This feature contains major spoilers for Inglourious Basterds from the very start.
As a filmmaker, Quentin Tarantino is given to making splashy and subversive films. Right through his new film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, he tends to show us the kind of genre movie he grew up watching before turning it upside down and seeing what comes out. Ten years after it was originally released, his Oscar-winning World War II movie Inglourious Basterds may still represent the greatest product of his filmmaking whims.
The marriage of his sensibilities and the historical arena of WW2 Europe rankled (and continues to rankle with) his critics, but his painstakingly developed men-on-a-mission movie blooms into a truly audacious series of vignettes, which...

Rob Riggle had just left “Saturday Night Live” but hadn’t done much acting when he booked a gig on “The Office.” It was the show’s second season, and was just hitting its stride with fans, when Riggle landed the one-time role of “Captain Jack” on the now iconic episode “Booze Cruise.”
“It was very early,” Riggle recalled of the 2006 episode. “I was still very green, I had not done much work. My first job in show business [after leaving military active duty] was ‘Saturday Night Live.’ That ‘Office’ episode was between ‘SNL’ and ‘The Daily Show.’ I was just thrilled to be there. You could tell they all liked each other. They appreciated each other, they enjoyed each others’ work.”
Riggle remembers spending time with stars Steve Carell and John Krasinski, plus guest star Amy Adams, as they shot scenes on a boat in Long Beach. Yet, it’s not Riggle’s favorite TV episode of all time.

At the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, TV is invading the schedule in a whole new way. The Park City film fest has previously dabbled in what’s possible on the small screen, but this year marks the launch of the Indie Episodics section — which will spotlight TV pilots that mostly lack mainstream distribution.
The selections include “America to Me,” a new docu-series by “Hoop Dreams” director Steve James; as well as “The Mortified Guide,” a screen adaptation of the popular stage show “Mortified,” spotlighting the most embarrassing true stories of adolescence. There’s also “This Close,” showcasing star/creators Josh Feldman and Shoshannah Stern (both of whom are deaf), and “Franchesca,” featuring digital star and “The Nightly Show” writer/contributor Franchesca Ramsey.
This marks a major change for Sundance, and a renewed commitment to independent television. While Sundance has featured TV programming since the premiere of “Top of the Lake” in...

The 1999 series Freaks and Geeks was a perfect storm of greatness. It was an amazing coming of age series from Judd Apatow and Paul Feig that helped launch the careers of several high-profile creative talent in Hollywood. Unfortunately, it was canceled way too soon.
If you're a fan of the series, you'll be happy to learn that there is a documentary coming to TV next year that focuses on the short-lived series. In a way, this will give fans the reunion of these actors that they've been waiting for.
The doc was confirmed by Feig when he was asked on Twitter if the documentary was really happening. This was his reply:

I have never been the biggest fan of the original ‘Wet Hot American Summer‘. Although it has attained cult status over the years, I never found the film to be memorable as others do. In fact, when Netflix revived the franchise a little over two years ago with an eight episode prequel series titled “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp“, I pretty much had the same feeling. With the latest entry in the revival, “Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later“, we finally get a true sequel to the original. And the premise is simple: the campers and counsels of camp firewood reunite a decade later to fulfill their promise made in the first film. Hilarity ensues. But the question still remains; does it follow the aforementioned trend of it’s predecessors? Well, the simple answer is no–but the more complicated answer, is inevitably yes.

Wet Hot American Summer was a 2001 comedy from David Wain (Role Models, The State, Stella) set in 1981 and starring Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Showalter, Marguerite Moreau, Paul Rudd, Zack Orth, Christoper Meloni, A.D. Miles, Molly Shannon, Ken Marino, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, Jon H. Benjamin and Amy Poehler. If that sounds like an A-List cast, that's because many of the current stars in the group were not so famous or in demand at the time. The film focused on these counselors on the last day of camp at Camp Firewood, one of the jokes being that all the actors were playing well under their age range.
Then, fourteen years later in 2015, Netflix released a prequel in the form of a TV series, making the ages of the cast even more ridiculous, in typical Wain fashion. Joining the original, now star-studded cast in Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp...

In an interview on Kevin Pollak's Chat Show with guest host Samm Levine of Freaks and Geeks fame, Strong discussed his TV past and present, including the major differences between Boy and Girl. "For some reason on Tgif we would just do these videos that were like full on dramas and nobody seemed to notice," Strong said referring to Boy Meets World's infamous cult episode in which Shawn joined a cult because of girl, then becomes "completely brainwashed," then Mr. Turner gets...
