The Batman Part II is flying off to a new date. The film will now open Oct. 2, 2026. That’s back a full year from its previous date.
Batman 2 wasn’t the only notable change made to Warner Bros. release calendar on Tuesday: The Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed The Bride!, starring Christian Bale, will take Batman 2‘s old date of Oct. 3, 2025; Barry Levinson’s gangster pic Alto Nights is being delayed from Nov. 24, 2024, to March 21, 2025; and Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled, star-studded event pic has landed an Aug. 8, 2025, release date. All of the titles will be offered in Imax.
The sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman was first announced at CinemaCon in April 2022. In August of that year, Mattson Tomlin boarded to co-write with Reeves, and in late January 2023, DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran gave the film a title and date of Oct. 3, 2025. Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 is no longer opening on October 3, 2025 — a new launchpad for comic book movies. Instead, it is going a year later on October, 2, 2026. We hear the new date is due to the aftermath of the dual strikes.
The spacing also will give some distance from James Gunn’s Superman, which is hitting cinemas on July 11, 2025. That film will kick off Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Studios, the first phase titled “Gods and Monsters.”
Reeves’ Batman is not part of the Gunn universe, but it’s all kosher to co-exist. Gunn has another Batman movie in the works, Batman: Brave and the Bold, with Andy Muschietti directing. Robert Pattinson plays Batman in Reeves’ universe. The role will be recast for Muschietti’s film.

Warner Bros. shook up its film release schedule Friday, shifting DC superhero extravaganza “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” ever-so-slightly — two days from Wednesday to Friday, Dec. 20 to Dec. 22 — and Robert De Niro mobster picture “Alto Knights” (formerly “The Wise Guys”) from Feb. 2, 2024 to Nov. 15, 2024.
Now opening Christmas weekend, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is the sequel to 2018’s “Aquaman,” still the highest grossing DC movie in history, with $1.152 billion worldwide. Director James Wan returns for the sequel, as do stars Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman.
According to DC’s official synopsis, the sequel will find the villainous Black Manta, “still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death,” stopping at nothing to “take Aquaman down once and for all.”
“This time, Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force,...

Warner Bros. has a new title and new release date for its upcoming Robert De Niro mob movie. The film previously known as The Wise Guys is now titled Alto Knights. The project from director Barry Levinson also has a new release date of Nov. 15, 2024 (back from Feb. 2, 2024).
The film is one of multiple across Hollywood expected to shift dates amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, which has shut down production, though insiders say this move is not strike related.
It was the first movies greenlit under the new Warners regime after Warner Bros. Discovery was formed in 2022.
Debra Messing and Kathrine Narducci also star in the feature, written by Nicholas Pileggi and produced by Irwin Winkler and Jason Sosnoff. The logline states that it “follows two of New York’s most notorious organized crime bosses, Frank Costello and Vito Genovese, and how their separate paths to power place them on a deadly collision course.

Warner Bros. has made several changes to its release slate, include setting a date for its upcoming film adaptation of “Minecraft” and a small holiday swap between “The Color Purple” and DC’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”
“Aquaman 2,” which was previously set for Christmas Day, will now be released on Wednesday, Dec. 20 while “The Color Purple” takes the spot on Christmas Day, which this year falls on a Monday.
The move will give the DC blockbuster extra time in the days leading up to Christmas weekend to build up word-of-mouth and potentially leg out through the holiday season. The first “Aquaman” did this to great success in December 2018, turning a $67.8 million domestic opening weekend into a $335 million domestic total and $1.14 billion worldwide.

A gangster film starring Robert De Niro sounds like a big win for the movies. But do you know what a bigger win is? A gangster film starring not one but two Robert De Niros. The veteran actor is set to play two major roles in Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson's next project from Warner Bros. Discovery, a feature film titled "Wise Guys." The movie fictionalizes two real-life Italian-American crime bosses from the 20th century. De Niro has more than enough understanding of the genre; he has portrayed multiple gangsters throughout his career, from "Mean Streets" to "Goodfellas" and "The Irishman." If there's any actor who can play two leading gangster roles in the same movie, it's De Niro, without a doubt.
It's safe to say that "Wise Guys" is shaping up to be a highly-anticipated project — so we've compiled everything there is to know about it.

Kathrine Narducci Reteaming With Robert De Niro & Barry Levinson For Warner Bros Mob Pic ‘Wise Guys’
Exclusive: Kathrine Narducci will be working again, not just with Robert De Niro, but also filmmaker Barry Levinson, in the latter’s mob pic Wise Guys at Warner Bros.
Wise Guys is a period piece that follows the story of Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, a pair of Italian Americans running two separate crime families during the mid-20th century. Genovese tried and failed to assassinate Costello in 1957, though the latter wound up taking his leave from the mob after being injured during the attempt on his life. De Niro is reportedly playing both roles. Narducci will play Anna Genovese who is the wife of De Niro’s Vito character. Deadline first told you that Debra Messing is in talks to play Bobbie, the wife of De Niro’s Costello character.

Chicago – “Capone” is the new Video-on-Demand release featuring Tom Hardy as the title character, and besides the obvious Chicago connection to the infamous gangster there are a number of supporting players in the film that are familiar – like Matt Dillon and Kyle MacLachlan – and new to the scene, like Tilda Del Toro.
“Capone” is a biopic that chronicles the final days of the notorious gangster. The 47-year old Al Capone, after 10 years in prison, remains under federal watch, as they think he may be faking his insanity. Forced to sell many of his belongings to pay his debts, Capone begins to have hallucinations, loses control of his motor functions, starts suffering from dementia and comes to be haunted by his violent past.

Tilda Del Toro portrays the mysterious lover from Al Capone’s past … appropriately named Mona Lisa … who possesses a big secret.

Al Capone is one of the most legendary mobsters in American history. However, of what we see depicted of him, especially on screen, concerns his “glory” days. The end of his life is rarely spoken of. Enter Josh Trank, who had long yearned to make Fonzo, a biopic of Capone that looked at his end days. Now, re-titled Capone, it comes out this week (specifically on Tuesday) and is pretty out there. With a performance from Tom Hardy that’s all in on the sometimes bizarre premise, he’s returned to the sort of work that he broke through with in Bronson. This will almost certainly prove divisive, but for me, I found it compelling enough to worthy of a recommendation. The film is a look at the last year in the life of notorious gangster Al Capone (Hardy). At 47 years old, Capone has gone from someone who terrorized Chicago to a feeble man,...

Kathrine Narducci is married to the mob. Joe Pesci‘s wife in “The Irishman,” John Ventimiglia‘s missus on “The Sopranos,” plus “Jersey Boys,” “A Bronx Tale,” the ‘hit’ list goes on and on. Soon she’ll be Al Capone‘s sister in the upcoming “Capone” starring Tom Hardy. Gd recently caught up with her from a safe social distance. She was in a new Brooklyn apartment painting. Not the walls. HBO is both a great and slightly regrettable home for Bad Education. When they picked up the movie out of the festival circuit, it was somewhat of a surprise. After all, the flick had gotten some strong awards buzz, especially for star Hugh Jackman. Would they really be going for potential Emmy (and Golden Globe) attention, as opposed to gunning for Oscars? Well, it appears that way, and aside from that unusual quirk, it’s undeniable that they have a quality picture on their hands. This is actually one of the better titles of the year, no matter where you actually see it. The film is a true crime character study, looking at a massive instance of long term fraud in the affluent Long Island city of Roslyn. The school system in the town is among the best in the nation, due in no small part to the work of the Superintendent of the district,...

Mere hours after learning it’d be skipping theaters and coming straight to digital, we now have our first look at Capone.
Directed and written by Josh Trank, the pic – which was originally titled Fonzo – will look to repair the damage Trank did to his career while helming Fantastic Four, which was an absolute disaster in every sense of the word. But here, he’s returned to smaller scale filmmaking and thanks to the trailer up above, we can finally get a taste of what we’re in store for.
Tom Hardy stars as Al Capone and as you can see, he’s completely transformed himself for the role, as he so often does. Though brief, the footage here is promising and this seems to be another strong performance from the beloved actor. Which makes sense, as after seeing him in Legend, we all know he has this whole mafioso...

After weathering the reception of Fantastic Four, director Josh Trank is now back with a film that is actually solely his cut. Tom Hardy is leading his crime drama biopic playing the Chicago crime boss Al Capone. Once titled Fonzo, his next feature is now going by Capone and it is arriving much sooner than expected.
Vertical Entertainment has picked up the film, which will land on May 12 on streaming with a theatrical release to hopefully arrive when the world resumes to normal. Trank has now dropped the first trailer on Twitter for the film also starring Linda Cardellini, Noel Fisher, Jack Lowden, Matt Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan, Kathrine Narducci, and Caiden Acurio.
Scored by El-p, the film follows Capone’s journey later in his life, after an 11-year prison stint in Atlanta. Judging from the trailer, Hardy certainly seems to be chewing the scenery to great lengths in entertaining fashion...

We’ve waited an awful long time to see Tom Hardy become Al Capone – too long, some might argue – but according to a new listing from the Classification & Ratings Administration (Cara), the biopic is headed to VOD platforms under a new title: Capone.
Previously known as Fonzo, the Josh Trank-directed crime pic first sprung into life back in 2016, though Hardy’s involvement in the standalone Venom movie naturally pushed Fonzo Capone onto the back-burner.
It’s only now, four years later, that Capone is finally on the verge of release thanks to Vertical Entertainment. As reported by Anton Volkov on Twitter, Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four follow-up has been retitled, slapped with an R rating, and is now seemingly bound for digital platforms. However, there’s still no sign of a firm release date – digital or otherwise. Though we imagine it’ll be soon now that it’s been rated.

Seems to me that only in a very good year for movies could the best film I saw all year and the worst film I saw all year both be called Parasite. Of course, one was the Cannes sensation and sure-to-be-Oscar-nominated South Korean film from Bong Joon Ho. The other was the 1982 3-D “classic” from director Charles Band, starring Demi Moore and Luca Bercovici, a movie which, once I finally caught up with it, or rather once it finally caught up with me (after my having successfully avoided it for almost 40 years), certainly made for an agonizing waste of my time, so I can only imagine what the actors and craftspeople who were involved with making it must have felt, and likely still do. And I consider it a real hallmark of a quality cinema annum when I can say that I saw more movies by near-forgotten Hollywood journeymen Ray Enright...

“The Irishman” opens with a needle-drop (The Five Satins’ “In the Still of the Night”) and a lengthy tracking shot, lest there were any doubt that this is the eagerly-awaited new film from director Martin Scorsese. But his return to the gangster milieu is anything but a greatest-hits compilation from a filmmaker in his autumn years; as a storyteller and a crafter of images, he remains as bold and as provocative as ever.
This is a movie that breaks any number of Cinema 101 rules, from inserting flashbacks within flashbacks to throwing traditional concepts of pacing and structure out the window. At the age of 76, Scorsese is embracing new technologies with the fervor of Ang Lee (without punishing our eyes with a high frame rate) and indulging in retro fantasy with the keen eye of Quentin Tarantino (without slapping a smiley-face sticker onto history).

I’ve got a new clip from Martin Scorsese’s upcoming mob epic The Irishman to share with you today! It’s an intense yet amusing moment where Stephen Graham‘s Anthony Provenzano is late to a meeting with Al Pacino’s Jimmy Hoffa, and he’s not a big fan of people being late to meetings! Robert De Niro’s Frank Sheeran is also a part of the scene.
This is one of those great dialogue and character-driven scenes that we love about the films Scorsese makes! I know the guy has been making waves with his comments about Marvel, but damn, the guy is a master storyteller and filmmaker. I can’t wait to see this movie! Check out the clip:

Scorsese takes a genre he owns, slows it down and asks us all to take a closer look at it. He shows us not only the power of this genre but the power of cinema altogether, creating yet another masterpiece in his glorious career. In a career defining film, Scorsese brings together everything the American director has learnt, everything he’s mastered and everything he’s become know for. He brings together everything we’ve come to love and proves once again why he’s one of the best directors that’s ever lived.

Netflix has released a new full trailer for director Martin Scorsese’s highly-anticipated crime film The Irishman. This trailer is loaded with new footage showcasing the impressive ensemble cast which includes Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, and Ray Romano. It’s especially cool to see many of these actors de-aged for the film as the story spans over decades. The work they did looks pretty impressive.

There aren’t a lot of things Hollywood loves more in a film than the retelling of true-to-life events or the on-screen portrayal of the real life of a complicated or inspiring person. For proof, look no further than what the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards each year: In the last 10 years of the Academy Awards, seven times the coveted award for best actor has gone to someone portraying a real person, including last year when Rami Malek won for “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
