The nominations for the 89th Academy Awards are in and La La Land leads the pack with 14 nominations! I knew La La Land was going to explode at this event, and it's probably going to end up taking home many of the awards is was nominated for. The 14 nominations ties the record with 1997's Titanic and 1950's All About Eve.
Arrival ended up with eight nominations as did Moonlight, while Hacksaw Ridge, Lion, and Manchester by the Sea all got six. Deadpool ended up with zero nominations. I was hoping to see it somewhere on the list, but it looks like all that hype didn't work.
Every film and actor who was nominated for their work deserves to be on this list, so congratulations to them all! There are so many great films and actors to root for, but there can be only one winner in each category.

This is the second year for the Makeup and Hairstylists Guild joining the awards game, and they've been a welcome addition to the circuit. They spread their nods thin across a number of categories, but it's a good window into what this branch digs, for sure. This year, the only two films on the Academy's bake-off list of finalists that didn't garner any recognition were "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and "Noah." Meaning "Foxcatcher," "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Maleficent" and "The Theory of Everything" were each represented in one form or another. Meanwhile, "Guardians of the Galaxy" led with the most mentions at three, while "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Interstellar" and "Into the Woods" each got a pair. As previously announced, Oscar-winning make-up artist Rick Baker and Emmy-nominated hair stylist Kathryn Blondell will receive the Guild's Lifetime Achievement Awards. This Saturday's (October 18) Strictly Come Dancing had entertainment for everyone, whether it was Tim Wonnacott's matador costume or Brendan Cole's "escaped bongos" trouser malfunction.

Bates Motel, Season 2: Episode 5 – “The Escape Artist”
Written by Nikki Toscano
Directed by Christopher Nelson
Airs Monday Nights at 10 on A&E
What the hell is Bates Motel? If someone were to watch the series pilot and “The Escape Artist” back-to-back, that person would have a hard time making sense of what this show is going for. That isn’t to say that the content–what happens in this episode–is “bad” or “weak” or some similarly vague adjective. And that’s also not even to say that a wildly inconsistent tone is something that prevents the viewer from engaging with what they’re seeing. It might be an issue for someone who wants to see the more Psycho elements of this story (in which case, stay away from “The Escape Artist”). But, really, Bates Motel has become something so far removed from what people thought it was going to be,...

In This Episode…
Norman wakes up in Cody’s car, no memory of his confrontation with Caleb. He swears he has never had a blackout before, and asks she not tell his mother. Cody assures her she will “never tell shit to parents.” In the morning, Norma is making breakfast. She tells Norman that Dylan moved out. “It’s you and me, Norman. It always has been. We have to move on.” Norman goes to the office to wait for Cody to pick him up. While in there, Emma and her cupcake boy, Gunner, plan a date. We got a new trailer for the raunchy indie road trip comedy Ass Backwards, which premiered earlier this year at Sundance. Eli had a chance to watch the film and compared it to Dumb & Dumber saying...
"Like Harry and Lloyd, Kate and Chloe's combined cluelessness leads them on amazing misadventures. But the characters in Dumb & Dumber had a more endearing quality to them that the girls in Ass Backwards lack. Kate and Chloe's misperception of reality and their unflinching support of each other is more due to their enabled egos rather than from their innocence or ignorance. This makes them hard to like sometimes. Even though I didn't absolutely love the characters, there are so many absurd scenes that you just can't help but laugh at, and director Chris Nelson takes a couple of risky ideas that actually pay off really well. Overall it's a solid comedy, and yet another...

If you’re having a hard time with the wait between new episodes of The Walking Dead, make sure to watch the Cold Storage webisodes, if you haven’t seen them already. AMC just released a set of official photos and we have them for you to check out, along with all four webisodes.
“Cold Storage” tells the story of a young man, Chase (played by Josh Stewart), trying to reach his sister in the early days of the zombie apocalypse. He finds temporary shelter in a storage facility run by a former employee named Bj (played Daniel Roebuck); however, things are not what they appear.
In addition to Stewart (The Dark Knight Rises) and Roebuck (Lost), the cast of “Cold Storage” includes Cerina Vincent (Cabin Fever) as Kelly and Chris Nelson (Kill Bill) as Harris.”
The Walking Dead: Cold Storage was developed, produced and directed by Greg Nicotero.

This year's London Surf Film Festival showcases the sport in all its extremes, from big waves and beach dudes to riders braving the Arctic winter – but where are the women surfers?
Surf films tend to fall into two camps: either pro riders surfing the world's biggest waves to a banging soundtrack – all rippling muscles and towering walls of aquamarine water, or whimsical journeys that look and feel more like music videos – focused less on skill and strength and more on the lifestyle with a heady, hippy vibe heavy on salty sexiness.
But the effect of both types of film is similar – and powerful: instant lifestyle envy. After watching some of the trailers for the London Surf Film Festival, I was wondering whether 41 was too old to become a surf bum – despite only ever sitting on a board once.
But there is more to the festival than exotic beaches and hot dudes in wetsuits.

Last year’s webisode series companion to The Walking Dead, “A New Day,” followed the story of the woman sometimes referred to as “Bicycle Girl,” and was an excellent slice (sorry) of life look at the world just as the sickness started taking hold.
This new webisode series, “Cold Storage,” is equally excellent and begins just a bit further along. Starring Daniel Roebuck, Dr. Arzt on Lost, and Josh Stewart from The Dark Knight Rises, the webisodes are once again helmed by Greg Nicotero.
For the second consecutive year, Amctv.com is launching The Walking Dead original webisodes. Titled “Cold Storage,” the web series is developed, produced and directed by Emmy Award winning special effects guru Greg Nicotero. The four, five-minute shorts were produced by Generate for AMC and are now live on Amctv.com.

Writer/director Rob Hall is following up his popular, and brutal, slasher flick 'Laid to Rest' with the anticipated sequel 'ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest II'. And the first still from the next installment of the chrome faced one himself has been revealed on the official Facebook fan page for the flick. The follow-up stars Thomas Dekker, Nick Principe, Brian Austin Green, Michael Biehn, Christopher Nelson, Jennifer Blanc and sweet-assed horror hot-stuff Danielle Harris (below). You can check out the new still below. 'The original 'Laid to Rest' was a terrifying story of a young girl who wakes up in a casket with a traumatic head injury and no memory of her identity. She quickly realizes she was abducted by a Deranged Serial Murderer and in an isolated rural town she must survive the night and outsmart the technologically inclined killer who is hellbent on finishing what he started.'...

And while it may have seemed like ChromeSkull was dead at the end of the first Laid to Rest, like every good horror villain, dead doesn’t always mean dead – as this picture from the official Laid to Rest 2 Facebook page will atest:

Danielle Harris, Thomas Dekker (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Brian Austin Green, Christopher Nelson, Jennifer Blanc and Michael Biehn are set to star in Laid to Rest 2. Director Robert Hall hopes to begin shooting this November. "You can't really make a Laid to Rest movie and not have the best gore effects," says Hall. "We're doubling the carnage and doubling the fun. I know we raised the bar on the last one, but people have no idea what’s in store in that department for the sequel—it's the original and then some. I'm so happy to have such a stellar cast involved, and I think co-producer Kevin Bocarde and I have come up with a cool way to bring Chromey back without going all nutty and breaking our own rules."...

There was some hope that "Lost" could get a significant boost with its recent swan song on ABC at the Emmy awards this year, but it just wasn't going to happen -- not as long as "Mad Men" remains on AMC. "Lost" ended up with only a single Emmy, for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, that was actually handed out the week before for the episode "The End." Among those winning in that category were Stephen Semel, Mark J. Goldman, Christopher Nelson and Henk Van Eeghen. Another ABC series, "FlashForward," also won an Emmy, but was for Outstanding Stunt Coordination for Danny Weselis in the episode "No More Good Days." It was Weselis' first nomination after working on shows like "Eli Stone," "Day Break" and four years on the Fox classic "The X-Files." Weselis ...

As the nominations were unveiled Tuesday morning for the American Cinema Editors' 60th annual Ace Eddie Awards, this year's awards season is looking more and more like a Hollywood version of Comic-Con.
Just like the Art Directors Guild, the editors organization nominated "Avatar," "District 9" and "Star Trek."
Those three movies will compete for best edited dramatic feature film along with "The Hurt Locker" and "Up in the Air."
Two Meryl Streep vehicles -- "Julie & Julia" and "It's Complicated" -- were nominated in the best comedy or musical category along with "(500) Days of Summer," "The Hangover" and "A Serious Man."
For best animated film, the contenders are "Coraline," "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "Up."
"This Is It," the Michael Jackson documentary, scored a slot in Ace's best documentary race alongside "The Cove" and "Food, Inc."
An honorary society of motion picture editors founded in 1950, Ace's noms usually point toward Oscar victory...
