Writer Adam Rockoff reteams with director David DeCoteau on a new Lifetime thriller that bears a striking resemblance to this month’s earlier title, Million Dollar Lethal Listing.
In Fatal Fixer Upper, Vivian (Jasmine Aivaliotis) and Ryan (Philip McElroy) are a young married couple preparing to purchase their dream home. Just like in Million Dollar Lethal Listing, the deal is too good to be true: the house is wildly underpriced, the owner is looking for a quick sale, and they’re asked to make a hefty cash deposit.
Unlike the former title, though, there’s no mystery about who the villain is in Fatal Fixer Upper. The film opens with a classic Lifetime cold open that immediately establishes that there is a bad man keeping an eye on things. His identity is quickly revealed as Josh Thomas (Duke Van Patten), the home’s original owner and the person spying on...

I’m a big believer in tarot cards and fate guiding us, but after watching the film Killer Fortune Teller by Peter Sullivan, I’ve got to say that it’s kind of sketchy how some people exploit these beliefs for personal gain. The movie follows Shane, a wise businessman in the pharmaceutical world. Just like his father, Shane becomes a tarot card believer after meeting Maya Priestley, a tarot card reader. Some of her readings start to benefit Shane and his company, leading him to put blind faith in them. However, Shane’s sister, Olivia, is totally against this new belief system. Not only that, but she’s also skeptical of Shane’s new girlfriend, Natalie, whom he dreams of marrying. Is Olivia right to be suspicious? Will fortune-telling turn out to be a blessing or a curse for Shane and his company? Let’s dive in and find out together!

Naming horror movies is a serious business. It needs to sound scary, it shouldn’t give too much away, ideally it shouldn’t be named the same as someone else’s film, but it should also be memorable enough to stick in the brain. So unsurprisingly a lot of horror filmmakers have opted to call their movie “scary sounding adjective”.
But which word is scariest? We have ranked the movies based entirely on how alarming our perception of the adjective is. Come at us in the comments.
7. Ominous
Rain clouds can be ominous. Your boss saying “can I borrow you for a minute” can be ominous.
But to describe your child dying in an accident and a mysterious stranger offering to bring him back to life as “Ominous” feels like a bit of an understatement. That’s the plot of this film from 2015 by Peter Sullivan, which sounds like it...

If there was any lingering doubt, it was laid to rest after it became clear that Danny Sullivan was not well, revealing most his narrated events didn't happen as described.
Danny ran away to London (or did he?) after his failed attempt to murder Marlin on The Crowded Room Season 1 Episode 4.
Left without anyone to consult after Ariana disappeared, Danny entered panic mode, and the next thing he knew, he was on a plane to London, where he believed his father lived.
But instead of finding his father, he met a former associate, Jack, who conveniently told a story of Peter's whereabouts.
Right after shooting Marlin, Danny knew that he had messed up; not a tiny mess like leaving the lights on, but a huge one.
As a child, he had a limited view of the world, and like most children, the only safe place he knew was with his parents.

If any new trends catch on in 2022, one should insist on every film or television series justifying its existence beyond its potential to make a profit — especially when it comes to adaptations of IP previously adapted in multitudes. Under those terms, given the eight-episode end product that premieres tonight on PBS, there’s little explanation for this new adaptation of “Around the World in 80 Days,” Jules Vernes’ most adapted work. Any new take on Vernes’ classic, even after taking into account that 2022 marks the 150th anniversary of its original publishing, ought to be as adventurous and inventive as the story that inspired it. This one most certainly is not.
PBS’ version opens with three Englishmen of obvious privilege in conversation around a table in a members-only men’s club, wagering whether the pre-passenger-flight-era feat of human ambition and technological marvel implied in the title is achievable. It’s not Elon Musk,...

Exclusive: Forced to halt production after just three weeks of shooting in South Africa when the Covid pandemic struck back in March 2020, and picking up again in Romania seven months later, Around The World In 80 Days is due to have its world premiere at Canneseries on October 10.
Star David Tennant, who plays English gentleman-turned-adventurer Phileas Fogg, is expected on the Riviera to unveil the first two episodes of this mega-adaptation of the Jules Verne classic. An airdate has yet to be set, but is likely around the holidays via such outlets as France Télévisions, PBS/Masterpiece, the BBC, Rai and Zdf. Check out the first-look teaser above.
Joining Tennant in the eight-part adventure are French actor Ibrahim Koma (Oss 177) as Fogg’s irrepressible valet, Passepartout, and Leonie Benesch (The Crown) as determined journalist, Abigail ‘Fix’ Fortescue.
A Slim Film + Television and Federation co-production for the European Alliance, the series boasts a new spin on Fogg.
Life On Mars creator and 80 Days head writer, Ashley Pharoah says, “We wanted Fogg yes to be a preposterously upper middle class over-educated Englishman, but I wanted to give him a sort of childlike sense of wonder because he’s never traveled, he’s never left London or his club. As soon as I hit on that, I thought it’s a love letter to the world, if that isn’t a bit pretentious. He goes to Paris and India and Hong Kong and Yemen and he’s so excited to see a camel, the different colors and cultures. It felt like resetting our relationship with traveling and seeing the world like that.”
In terms of scoring Tennant for the lead, former Kudos boss Simon Crawford Collins, who runs Slim Film + Television, says, “We wanted somebody who could believably do the action adventure, could play the stiff-upper-lip Englishman, but at the same time you never fall out of love with him and you really want to get under the veneer of that and go, ‘Wow, this is actually a complex man.’ David manages that so brilliantly.”
Pharoah, who is also an executive producer, hints at more Fogg adventures to come. “We are in the early stages of wondering — if this goes well — if we could do it again. Taking those three characters and doing a different adventure with them.” Hopefully not under the same conditions, however, which Pharoah recalls as “a really hard shoot.”
It was also expensive, as pandemic-related issues added about £4M in costs, Crawford Collins tells Deadline. “The first lockdown was a killer, but once we got going again we felt very blessed.” Production in South Africa was originally stopped in March 2020 and picked up again in November in Romania. “In an ideal world we would have carried on filming in South Africa where our sets were, but South Africa was coming out slowly so we did the big shift to Romania,” adds the executive producer. This year, production was able to move back to South Africa and the result is “very vibrant and cinematic.”
Around The World In 80 Days counts co-production partners Masterpiece in the U.S., Peu Communications in South Africa, and Belgium’s Be-films and Rtbf. Daro Film associate produces. Seven West Media has also backed the production and will broadcast in Australia. The series has further been acquired by the BBC in the UK and Rts in Switzerland.
While there are myriad partners on the series, Crawford Collins says development and production were “very straightforward.” France Télévisions “came back saying, ‘We love this and really want to make it and we don’t want to be the secondary broadcaster.’ They wanted to be lead, so immediately put in a sizable amount of money. It was a wonderful building block and they then brought the Alliance partners on board.”
The entire process (apart from the shutdown), “was incredibly stress free… We never had any big disagreements… The specter of Europudding still sort of lives heavily in our minds and we all know those days. But I think the trouble with that is when you have a project originated just to secure financing then it really shows through. The difference is that we had a clear vision of what we wanted to say, but just knew we needed a lot of people to help fund it.”
Also starring as series regulars in 80 Days are Jason Watkins (Des) and Peter Sullivan (Poldark). Guest actors include Lindsay Duncan (A Discovery Of Witches), Dolly Wells (Dracula), Richard Wilson (Merlin), Faical Elkihel (The Spy), Anthony Flanagan (The Terror), Gary Beadle (Patrick Melrose) and Giovanni Scifoni (Doc – Nelle Tue Mani).
Around The World In 80 Days is adapted by a team of writers led by Pharoah and Caleb Ranson (Child Of Mine). Steve Barron (The Durrells) directs with Brian Kelly (Downton Abbey) and the late Charles Beeson (The Mentalist).
Federation Entertainment handles distribution rights. Exec producers are Crawford Collins for Slim, Lionel Uzan and Pascal Breton for Federation, Winnie Serite for Peu and Susanne Simpson for Masterpiece.

In a swank house, a man and a woman engage in amorous acrobatics before a large, glowing fireplace. The blaze seems a little ominous. So does the woman’s trip to the kitchen. And, as if to heighten the tension more, should any character coyly say “we’re not done yet” while the movie’s score promises otherwise? Probably not. But then “Fatal Affair” wastes little time delivering on its breathless title. And, that is so not a spoiler, just the start of an intermittently effective, consistently derivative thriller starring Nia Long and Omar Epps, now streaming on Netflix.
Wearing a gold wedding band with a good-size rock and heading into her and husband Marcus’ newly bought beachfront home, Ellie Warren (Long) is poised to begin living the life. She’s set to leave the San Francisco law firm where she’s been an asset and put out her own shingle.

We all deal with being in lockdown in different ways. Some of us by learning a musical instrument, some by writing a novel, and some by binging the nearly infinite library of new and old TV shows available on streaming services. Others, meanwhile, watch and rave about a horny and sinister thriller to have hit Netflix a few days ago.
Fatal Affair revolves around Ellie, a successful attorney who begins working with David, an old friend from college. After a few catch-up drinks, they almost hook up in a nightclub bathroom until Ellie stops things and goes back to her husband Marcus and attempts to rekindle their marriage after the two of them began to grow distant. Unfortunately, David begins stalking her and attempts to ingratiate himself into her life in increasingly demanding ways, the scenes becoming more ominous and controlling as the movie progresses and his questionable past is revealed.

For over a week, Charlize Theron’s new film The Old Guard was one of the most-watched bits of content available to Netflix subscribers living in America. Now, however, the acclaimed action-adventure drama has been dethroned by a rather surprising contestant, a little-known thriller by the name of Fatal Affair, which has taken the #1 spot on the Top 10 movies chart.
Written and directed by Peter Sullivan alongside Rasheeda Garner, Fatal Affair tells the story of a woman who tries to save her marriage after a brief but potent encounter with an old friend, only to discover that said friend turns out to be more dangerous and unhinged than they originally led on.
The movie, which currently holds a Metacritic score of 33 as well as a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 17%, stars Nia Long alongside Omar Epps and Stephen Bishop. Critics have scolded it for its uninspired dialogue, a boring plot and an underdeveloped villain.

Temptation Machination: Sullivan Explores Ills of Infidelity in Extramarital Thriller
“The house is new but the man is not,” jests the unfortunate protagonist in Peter Sullivan’s situational adult thriller Fatal Affair, the usual euphemism to explain the lackluster romance universal to all long-term relationships. the greatest assets of Peter Sullivan’s “Fatal Affair” are stars Nia Long and Omar Epps. At least they keep the feature from just looking and feeling like a limp Lifetime movie knockoff, though Sullivan himself hails from the wide world of Lifetime and Hallmark moviemaking (including no less than a dozen directorial efforts with the word “Christmas” in their titles). And yet, armed with the freedom that Netflix backing should bring — aka not needing to worry about keeping things broadcast-friendly — Sullivan and co-writer Rasheeda Garner don’t so much as bust out of the genre box as dig into it.
Opening with a double murder, the film somewhat makes good on its “fatal” promise. The “affair” part? Not so much.
Cut from the same cloth as dozens of other erotic thrillers — theatrical hits “Fatal Attraction” and “Obsessed” as well as scores of made-for-tv outings — Sullivan’s film follows a predictable pattern,...

Poldark becomes an espionage thriller in the season five premiere. Spoilers…
This Poldark review contains spoilers. It originally appeared on Den of Geek UK.
A spy for the English crown! Fancy that. Despite it being an annual tradition on Poldark for a person of rank to corner a reluctant Ross by the syllabub and force a position of power on him, that was a turn up for the books. Unless you’ve read the books, in which case it wasn’t.
Those who’ve read other books may recognise the name Edward Despard, a genuine chap of history whose exploits explain why Dwight was so keen for his pal to steer clear. Tell Ross Poldark that someone’s too dangerous? Oh, Dwight. You may as well put Despard in a Demelza wig and dip him in honey. Ross loves danger. After patrician responsibility and clifftop-staring, it’s his favourite thing.

I Am the Night episode 5, "Aloha," opens at Dr. George Hodel's (Jefferson Mays) 1949 incest trial. A psychiatric expert is explaining how 14-year-old Tamar suffers from a kind of dementia that causes delusions of grandeur and comes from a mania for sex. This was apparent even when Tama was 11. The daughter has been making up stories about her father for a long time, and the list of accusations includes the Black Dahlia murder, the testimony continues.
The series has a lot of ground to cover in the George Hodel backstory, most of which directly affects how we see the main character, Fauna Hodel (India Eisley), his granddaughter. Jay Singletary (Chris Pine) covered the original trial. It destroyed his career. As he drops off...

I Am the Night Episode 3
I Am the Night episode 3, "Dark Flower," opens in 1945, two years before the January 15, 1947 murder of 22-year-old actress Elizabeth Short. The Black Dahlia is a conspiracy theorist's wet dream. Still unsolved, the suspects in the case all had fascinatingly perverse backgrounds. George Hodel, who came to the attention of the officers covering the gruesome death after an underage, incest-rape trial, had one of the most perverse.
Well-known to the police and well treated by them, Hodel was renowned for his Hollywood parties. They were lavish affairs held at his mansion, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright's son, which was modeled after a Mayan temple. The place had its own ill repute. On I Am the Night, TNT’s true crime mini-series, the interest and involvement of director Patty Jenkins is now a tangible film. TNT’s I Am the Night is the story of Fauna Hodel (India Eisley) who was given away at birth and seeks her biological family. Jenkins learned of the life of Fauna Hodel and befriended the author of One Day She’ll Darken. It was Hodel’s book that captured Jenkins attention, primarily the story of her childhood and teenage years. But the connection to George Hodel, a prime suspect in the infamously gruesome and unsolved Black Dahlia killing in 1945 […]

It took fifteen years of perseverance—acquiring the rights, losing them, and reacquiring them at the behest of screenwriter Jane Goldman stoking the fire—but producer Stephen Woolley finally got Peter Ackroyd‘s 1994 novel on the big screen as The Limehouse Golem. There were some big names attached from Merchant Ivory originating plans to Woolley hoping for Neil Jordan years before developing it with Terry Gilliam. Don’t let this taint your opinion when peering upon Juan Carlos Medina‘s name on the director’s chair, though. Despite being only his sophomore feature, there’s a lot to like as he imbues the proceedings with a nightmarish air of mystery and suspense. It’s a dark Sherlock Holmes-esque case bolstered by a heartfelt desire for justice exactly when it appears impossible to find.
