Sabrina Carpenter’s songs are great, so it’s not surprising that she takes inspiration from the great music of the past. The “Espresso” singer said an apocalyptic country song influenced her as a musician. She also became friends with one of the most important country crossover singers of all time.
Sabrina Carpenter loves this ‘heartbreaking’ love song
During a 2018 interview with Teen Vogue, the “Please Please Please” singer named the songs that defined her life. It included an eclectic mix of songs, including The Beatles’ “Rocky Raccoon,” Abba’s “Dancing Queen,” Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” Etta James’ “At Last,” and “Smooth by Santana and Rob Thomas. One of the most lovely songs on the list was Skeeter Davis’ “The End of the World,” one of the most famous country songs of the 1960s. Davis’ tune is about someone who feels like the world is ending because she’s going through a breakup.

It's safe to say that we've seen the beginning of the golden age of TV series: their number has increased significantly in recent years, the budgets are growing, and more and more A-listers are starring on the small screen. Unfortunately, a good TV show is not always able to captivate its audience right away, which is why many promising projects were axed.
Of all the high school TV shows of the 2000s, Veronica Mars is the one that still has a great chance of captivating both teens and adults.

Struggling to recall the last time the internet seemed like a force for good in the world? Yancey Strickler can cite the exact date: March 13, 2013.
That’s the day that Kickstarter’s co-founder and former CEO Strickler and writer/director Rob Thomas launched the “Veronica Mars” Movie Project on the then-four-year-old crowdfunding platform. Within 11 hours, tens of thousands of “Veronica Mars” fans opened their wallets to quickly hit the $2 million goal to bring Thomas’ low-rated high school detective series starring Kristen Bell as the eponymous teen gumshoe back from the TV graveyard as a feature film, which opened in theaters 10 years ago on March 14, 2014.
“It was just love — that’s what it felt like,” Strickler told IndieWire about being in the room with Thomas when the “Veronica Mars” campaign launched, and the fan-raised funds rolled in en masse. “There was a documentary crew there filming; the cast kept calling us,...

One thing to know about "Always Sunny" is that it isn't afraid to go dark. From Charlie getting molested to Dennis being a possible serial killer, this is a show filled to the brim with material that would be horrifying if delivered in a slightly different tone. Such was the case in the season 4 episode "Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life," the one where Dennis ends up in a terrifying rehab center. There he's harassed by two patients, comedian Sinbad and musician Rob Thomas. Sinbad is a terrifying force of nature, and Thomas is his loyal, quiet sidekick. The episode ends with the reveal that this was all in Dennis's head, or was it? It's sort of ambiguous.
In the original version of the episode, Sinbad and Rob Thomas got a lot more screen time, with brutal results for Thomas. As Charlie Day explained on The Always Sunny Podcast:

Robert Randolph was tooling around Florida when the call came. The musician, whose sacred steel slide guitar has powered his own Family Band albums and has popped up on records by Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Thomas, Santana, and Dave Matthews Band, was behind the wheel when his office phoned to tell him that Beyoncé wanted him to record with her.
“I said, ‘Record what — you sure you have the right person?’” Randolph recalls, noting his own jam-band style. “I’m the kind who plays and plays and plays on.

Bunk’d, which is currently the Disney Channel’s longest running sitcom, is to conclude after the seventh series.
From early 2000s classics like Even Stevens and Lizzie McGuire to The Suite Life franchise, That’s So Raven and the hugely succesful Hannah Montana (which was spun off into feature film Hannah Montana: The Movie in 2009), Disney’s formula of well cast, high concept sitcoms has put it at the top of the tween sitcom tree for several decades.
One of its more recent successes was Jessie, which provided a star vehicle for Debby Ryan after several years in The Suite Life On Deck.
The show saw Ryan play the titular character, who acted as a nanny for three kids – Zuri, Ravi, Luke and Emma, played by Skai Jackson, Karen Brar, Cameron Boyce and Peyton List, respectively. Jessie grew into one of Dusney’s most popular shows and eventually ran from 2011 to 2015.

Even amid the concurrent strikes of the past year, there’s been a lot of bonus hand-wringing over the state of the independent producer. Producers, after all, have no SAG or WGA equivalent. Technology giant Ibm seems to think the wind is blowing in a different direction.
The company said Tuesday that it had agreed to sell its Weather Company — a collection of digital and analytical assets it originally acquired in 2016 that were previously part of the Weather Channel — to Francisco Partners, a private equity fund that is focused on technology. Terms of the deal were not disclosed and the sale is expected to be completed by April. The sale does not include the Weather Channel cable network which is controlled by entrepreneur Byron Allen and was acquired by him in 2018.
“Over the last few years, we’ve evolved Ibm to be a hybrid cloud and AI company. We regularly review our portfolio to make sure our business areas are core to that strategy, and today’s news reflects our continued focus on these two transformational technologies,” said said Rob Thomas, Senior Vice President,...

The Weather Company has found new ownership in private equity.
Ibm, which has owned the digital products of The Weather Channel and brands like Weather Underground since 2016, has sold the assets to investment firm Francisco Partners, the companies said Tuesday. Terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed. The deal is expected to close early next year.
The sale marks the end of a seven-year run for The Weather Company at the technology giant, which originally bought the assets as part of a plan to bulk up its data offering and build out its Watson Internet of Things Unit. Now, however, it doesn’t view the asset as part of its core offering. “Over the last few years, we’ve evolved Ibm to be a hybrid cloud and AI company,” stated Rob Thomas, svp software and chief commercial officer at Ibm, in announcing the sale.

Elvis Presley‘s “Don’t Be Cruel” remains one of his most beloved tracks. A classic rock band put their own spin on the track in the 1980s. Subsequently, the same band had a hit covering “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
Deciding to cover Elvis Presley’s ‘Don’t Be Cruel’ was ‘torture’ for Cheap Trick
Cheap Trick had a huge hit with their 1988 power ballad “The Flame,” a song that wasn’t written by any of the members of the group. During a 2023 interview with Songfacts, Cheap Trick’s Ben E. Carlos said the band wanted their follow-up single to be a cover. “I literally went through piles of tapes with Richie [Nielsen] from publishers, went through hundreds of songs,” he recalled. “We’d sit there in a room with a ghetto blaster, put a tape in, get about 10 seconds in, and usually just pop the tape out and pitch it in the circular file.

While most know Mick Jagger as the lead singer of The Rolling Stones, he has had a successful career as a solo artist. However, his solo work doesn’t garner the same attention as the Stones. Still, his name is enough of a pull for certain people, except guitarist Keith Richards. Keith Richards believed Mick Jagger wasn’t great without The Rolling Stones and hated one of his solo albums.

Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas is convinced that his 1997 hit “Push” is not the butt of the joke in “Barbie” and that it’s actually a loving homage.
The song, which was criticized upon its release for lyrics that allegedly glorified domestic violence, is used at a key moment when the Kens of Barbie Land think they’ve finally won the attention of all the Barbies, amid the Kens’ pastel putsch of the realm to install their version of patriarchy. Not just Ryan Gosling’s Ken, but all of the Kens serenade their Barbies with “Push” thinking they’ve won the Barbies over — and on their terms.
But the Barbies have already been deprogrammed of their patriarchal brainwashing and are just playing along, making the Kens think they’re really interested in them. It’s one of the things that ultimately builds to the Barbies reclaiming their land while...

I'm a '90s kid. I mean, I was actually a proper child in the '90s. I turned seven in the first year of the 21st century. When most people say they are '90s kids, they really mean they were born in the '80s and had their formative coming of age years in the '90s. Consequently, my relationship to the pop culture of the decade of my birth is rather odd, as those formative years for me were really the early 2000s. Micro-generations make a big difference.
Music, in particular, is a weak spot for me. I missed out on grunge, neo-soul, gangsta rap, and so much more. My popular music awareness started forming around the time of "Millennium" by the Backstreet Boys in 1999. So, I have no nostalgia for this era of music or, quite frankly, know much of it.

Kathy Bates, Kaitlin Olson, Carrie Preston and Shanola Hampton are among the female actors hoping to click as distinctive protagonists with new series in the 2023-24 season. Bates will bring to life a next-generation “Matlock,” while Preston limns a new chapter for Elsbeth Tascioni, the attorney character she has played on and off on CBS’ “The Good Wife” and Paramount+’s “The Good Fight” since 2010.
This is good news for the hundreds of international television buyers heading to Los Angeles for next week’s LA Screenings market. Another welcome development is that the largest media congloms are now on a big push to reopen their doors to third-party buyers, after a few years of holding back the biggest shows for in-house streaming services.

ABC is moving forward with one of its six pilots — with more a possibility at a later date.
The Disney-owned network has handed out a series order to its Drew Goddard drama, which now has a title: High Potential. The drama starring Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) is one of six pilots that ABC ordered this season, with decisions on the other five coming at a later date as broadcast networks continue to shift to a year-round development model.
Based on the French series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel, High Potential revolves around a single mom (Olson) with an exceptional mind, whose unconventional knack for solving crimes leads to an unusual and unstoppable partnership with a by-the-book seasoned detective (Daniel Sunjata). Javicia Leslie (Batwoman), Deniz Akdeniz, Amirah J, Matthew Lamb and Judy Reyes round out the cast of the series from ABC Signature. Goddard (The Good Place, The Martian) wrote...

“Roseanne” sequel series “The Conners” and the Gina Rodriguez-led comedy “Not Dead Yet” will both be returning to ABC next season, the network announced Tuesday.
Alongside “The Conners” and “Not Dead Yet,” which will return for their sixth and second installments, respectively, ABC also renewed several unscripted shows, including “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” which returns for Season 34, “American Idol,” which will mark its seventh season on ABC and its 22nd season overall, “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune,” “Celebrity Jeopardy!” and “Shark Tank.” Bachelor nation will also continue its reign at ABC with “The Bachelor” coming back for Season 28 and “Bachelor in Paradise” returning for a ninth season.
In addition to the renewals, the network has picked up a new detective series starring Kaitlin Olson, titled “High Potential.” Based on French series “Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (Hpi),” the series centers on “a single mom with an exceptional mind, whose unconventional knack for...

ABC has handed Drew Goddard’s pilot High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson, a series order.
The pickup is not surprising; the drama, based on the popular French detective series Hip (High Intellectual Potential) has been the clear frontrunner among ABC’s crop of 2023 pilots.
It is the only pilot ABC is making a decision ahead of its upfront. The remaining five, dramas The Good Lawyer, The Hurt Unit and Judgment, and comedies Keeping it Together (fka Drop-Off) and Public Defenders, remain in contention.
Networks already have been shifting toward year-round development and have not been doing all of their pilot decisions before upfronts. With the writers strike this year, they are even more cautious, taking a wait-and-see approach given the financial commitment and logistical issues associated with a new series order if the work stoppage stretches over several months. ABC has awhile before the pilot casts’ options are up, and...

Mick Jagger became a household name with The Rolling Stones in the mid-1960s. He’s remained the epitome of frontman cool ever since. Jagger’s biggest hit song in the 21st century was a song he basically gave away to Matchbox Twenty. The tune didn’t resonate the same way as some of the Stones’ songs that weren’t quite No. 1 hits, but it put him back on the charts.
Mick Jagger | Dimitri Hakke/Redferns Mick Jagger’s biggest hit song of the 21st century was Matchbox Twenty’s ‘Disease’
Jagger co-wrote nearly every Rolling Stones song dating back to their early years. His 2001 solo album Goddess in the Doorway helped spur his biggest hit of the new millennium.
Matchbox Twenty singer Rob Thomas was a background singer on the record (per AllMusic). He brought “Disease” to one of the recording sessions and ran it past Jagger. The singer...
