With the cameras set to roll shortly, we all could have predicted that the casting announcements for writer/director Rian Johnson's third Knives Outfilm, Wake Up Dead Man, would start with all speed. On the heels of news about Josh O'Connor, Cailee Spaeny and Andrew Scott joining the ensemble, now we have word of Glenn Close and Kerry Washington joining them.
Daniel Craig, of course, is returning to star as southern-fried detective Benoit Blanc, but the specific detail of what sort of mystery he'll be digging into this time is being kept quiet for now. Nor do we know what Close or Washington will be up to in the movie.
We do at least know where they'll all be – Johnson is gearing up to film in London starting next month. The casting drip feed has turned into a torrent, and there no doubt will be more to come…...

Glenn Close is the latest star to board the new Knives Out mystery movie. The actress has joined the all-star cast of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, Rian Johnson’s thriller headlined by Daniel Craig.
The Netflix feature has been on a casting tear in the past week, furiously sewing up deals as it heads toward an early June production start in the U.K.
Challengers’ Josh O’Connor, Civil War actress Cailee Spaeny, Ripley star Andrew Scott and Scandal alum Kerry Washington are already on the list of suspects (and maybe represent a victim or two).
Plot details and character information are being kept in the morgue, but the thriller is expected to follow the same circuitous path as Johnson’s previous Knives Out mysteries. Eccentric, Southern-fried detective Benoit Blanc (Criag) will uncover the details behind a murder while surrounded by a coterie of colorful characters.

Eva Longoria is putting a lot of thought into who she surrounds herself with in movies and TV shows.
The actress-filmmaker recently admitted to People magazine that she only wants “to work with people I love,” naming friends and fellow actresses Kerry Washington and Gabrielle Union as an example.

After a two-year absence from the upfront stage, Jimmy Kimmel was back Tuesday to take aim at Bob Iger, P Diddy, CBS and the new Golden Bachelorette.
Introduced by Kerry Washington — who he said was the “last decent lead-in I ever had” — Kimmel had fun with an artificial version of Bob Iger on screen and another version of the Golden Bachelor franchise called The Golden Retriever: Love is a Bitch.
Here’s his monologue:
“Let’s hear it for all the talented stars who were forced to come here today because of a clause in their contract their agents didn’t bother to read. I am glad you’re all inside. I heard Amazon left you guys out on the porch. You’re lucky you didn’t get stolen.”

Did Anna Wintour add more tables to this year’s Met Gala? Because the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art felt especially crowded on Monday evening, May 6, teeming with Hollywood A-listers wearing a plethora of artful looks. And while not everyone leaned into the evening’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” for the most part the stars acquitted themselves well in looks that ranged from quiet elegance to over the top and outrageous.
Even with the nature-centric theme, the night surprisingly was highlighted by some stars in neutrals. Nicole Kidman offered a great backstory for her black and white Balenciaga gown, while Cardi B served up the night’s best drama in a Windowsen black gown that almost spanned the width of the museum steps. Flesh-toned gowns likewise were abundant, including Pamela Anderson in Oscar de la Renta and Lizzo in a custom floral-inspired corset gown by Paris-based designer Victor Weinsanto.

Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, Bad Bunny and Anna Wintour serve as the Met Gala co-chairs this year, so they’ll be in attendance. It’s a pretty good bet they’ll be joined on the red carpet by regulars like Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Jared Leto, Kristen Stewart, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Nicole Kidman, Kerry Washington, Cara Delevingne, Serena Williams and even a Kardashsian, a Jenner or two.
The dress code for the evening is “The Garden of Time,” inspired by a 1962 short story of the same title by J.G. Ballard.

Shonda Rhimes was honored at Variety’s Power of Women, presented by Lifetime, in New York on Thursday for her work with the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, a non-profit dance school that offers classes to disenfranchised communities.
Rhimes was aware of Debbie Allen’s work from a young age, having been a fan of her 1980s TV show “Fame.” Years later, Rhimes’ eldest daughter took classes at the academy, and Rhimes and Allen became fast friends. Allen eventually became an executive producer, director and actor on “Grey’s Anatomy,” and in 2022, Rhimes opened a permanent location for Dada in Mid-City.
“They call her Ms. Allen. Her students are aged 3 to 93. They are all sizes, all colors, all abilities, all talent levels,” Rhimes said on stage at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.. “Some are kids like mine — overprivileged. But some are not. Some don’t have homes. Some cannot pay for classes.

Now that nearly two years have passed since W.N.B.A. star Brittney Griner served a nine-month sentence for cannabis possession at a Russian penal colony, she has begun speaking out about the suffering she experienced while behind bars. In a New York Times interview, Griner said she felt dehumanized when a guard fastened a chain to her handcuffs, treating her like a dog, and how, in another instance, doctors forced her to undress so they could photograph her nude. It’s well known that in her decades-long career, Shonda Rhimes — the writer behind such television sensations as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal” and “Bridgerton” — has smashed pervasive racist-casting tropes, and in doing so, changed the literal face of TV, whether that meant having “Scandal” revolve around Kerry Washington’s antihero Olivia Pope or elevating Regé-Jean Page to thirsty heights as a Black duke in Regency England on “Bridgerton.”
What’s talked about less is how Rhimes has changed the way people speak. Any parent of a teenager who’s heard the derisive usage of “pick me” from Meredith’s “Pick me! Choose me! Love me!” speech in Season 2 of “Grey’s Anatomy” — used to describe, according to the Urban Dictionary, “a woman that is willing to do anything for male approval” — can tell you of Rhimes’ enduring power. Especially since that oratory was delivered in 2005, and given new life on TikTok.

Mariska Hargitay is well-known for her Law & Order Svu character Olivia Benson. Mariska actually is a lot more like Olivia Benson than a lot of fans realize, and advocates for sexual abuse victims in real life too.
The Me Too movement took a huge loss today in New York, and the Law & Order star is heartbroken over the court’s decision in the Harvey Weinstein case.
Harvey Weinstein – Verdict Overturned
Harvey Weinstein’s guilty verdict in his 2018 rape case in New York has been overturned and thrown out.
Weinstein’s lawyer argued that the judge in the case didn’t give Harvey a fair shake, and made it nearly impossible for a jury to come to a fair verdict.
The Supreme Court unfortunately agreed that Weinstein’s character was put on trial, rather than cold hard facts in the rape case.
On Thursday April 25 the official announcement came that...

Kerry Washington is opening up about her sexual assault.
The 47-year-old Scandal star, who opened up in her 2023 memoir Thicker Than Water about the experience, spoke at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at the University of Southern California on Saturday (April 20) in Los Angeles.
At the event, she explained that she revealed she was sexually assaulted in the book because it was an example of the truth being withheld from her.
“The version of the story that I want to tell is the version of figuring out the truth of who I am and what were the obstacles that got in the way of me being able to know my truth and experience my truth,” she said, via People.

Annette Bening is a five-time Oscar nominee, having recently garnered a bid for her leading turn in Netflix’s biographical drama “Nyad.” Bening is clearly having a great year as she also features in Peacock’s limited series “Apples Never Fall,” which could bring her back to the Emmys for the first time since 2006.
The limited series, adapted from the novel of “Big Little Lies” author Liane Moriarty, depicts four adult children trying to piece together the mystery behind the disappearance of their mother, played by Bening. Sam Neil, Jake Lacy, and Allison Brie all turn in fabulous supporting performances but this is Bening’s show, with the veteran actress performing at the peak of her powers.
Bening always has a commanding screen presence and, in truth, she could play most roles in her sleep, such as is the might of her talent. With “Apples Never Fall,” she is afforded...

Imagine being sexually assaulted only to be told by the perpetrator that it never happened and that it was all in your imagination. Such an experience will be too much for anyone to handle and that was exactly what happened to “Scandal” actress Kerry Washington.
Already, the star of “Unprisoned” wrote in her memoir “Thicker Than Water” published in September 2023 that she experienced sexual abuse growing up.
On Saturday, April 20, the actress attended the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books Event at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles where she was asked by Erica D. Smith to share how such experience helped shape her life.
According to Kerry, that experience was one out of many instances where the truth was withheld from her. Her statement was a reference to a part of her book where she shared that she only found out that her father Earl Washington wasn...

Peacock’s new limited series “Apples Never Fall” is cut from the same cloth as “Big Little Lies,” with both shows adapted from the novels of Australian author Liane Moriarty.
“Apples Never Fall” follows a family, led by four adult children, trying to piece together the mysterious disappearance of their mother Joy (Oscar-nominee Annette Bening). Bening is reliably excellent in this limited series, as is “Jurassic Park” star Sam Neil, who plays her on-screen husband. And Jake Lacy and Allison Brie shine as two of the four adult kids. All four performances have been praised by critics and its these turns that could lead the Emmy charge for the series.
Brian Lowry (CNN) stated: “As for the old expression ‘How do you like them apples?,’ in this case, happily, the answer is quite a lot.”
Matthew Gilbert (Boston Globe) opined: “If the ending to the mystery is predictable, the getting...
