[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Mary & George Episode 4, “The Wolf & The Lamb.”] James and George’s romance reached the pinnacle of intimacy in Mary & George Episode 4. The episode saw James (Tony Curran) return to Scotland for the first time since he became King of England, his new lover, George (Nicholas Galitzine), in tow. While George can’t help himself from cheating, James is his most tender yet, and Curran delivers his best performance of the series in the episode. James is on edge throughout the episode’s first act. His irritation and unrest are on full display when he bites George’s arm, breaking the skin, and when he plunges himself into a river in Scotland. He’s imploding after the death of Somerset (Laurie Davidson), feeling as if he can’t trust anyone, especially George. And in truth, George is extremely untrustworthy. He’s loving and doting in the room with James, but...

A mother pimping out her son? Not quite a story you hear every day, but historically accurate nonetheless.
Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine lead limited series “Mary and George” as the titular Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham, and her son George, who together set out to seduce King James I (Tony Curran) and well, penetrate the throne.
While the trailer quickly was turned into viral GIFs courtesy of Galitzine and Curran’s steamy scenes, it’s Oscar winner Moore’s performance that has turned critics’ heads, according to reviews for the series. The Guardian called the series “magnificent” in part due to its “narrative rigor of ‘The Favourite,’ the disciplined panache of ‘The Great,’ just a dash of ‘The Tudors’’ excess and enough sex to keep ‘Bridgerton’ fans happy too.” Those risqué scenes range from queer group sex, royal orgies, and Moore’s “monster” of a mother who still serves...

The delicious “Mary & George” may well serve up a feast of Emmy nominations. This limited series on Starz stars Julianne Moore as the Countess of Buckingham, who groomed her son, George Villiers (Nicholas Galitzine), to seduce King James I (Tony Curran). The Countess uses her son as a pawn to scheme her way to riches, titles, and influence in 1600s England.
The series, adapted by award-winning playwright D.C. Moore from Benjamin Woolley’s bestseller “The King’s Assassin,” is a sumptuous period drama. The show is in the same vein as Yorgos Lanthimos‘ Oscar-winning “The Favourite,” swapping out the usual stuffy nature of such fare for a raucous, romp through history.
Moore, who won the Best Actress Oscar in 2015 for “Still Alice,” is on reliably good form here. She chews up every scene and commands the screen with authority. Galitzine, meanwhile, proves he is more than just the most...

The period drama, whose U.S. and Canada rights were acquired by Starz, follows a “treacherous mother and son who schemed, seduced and killed to conquer the Court of England and the bed of King James,” according to the official logline.
Inspired by a true story, Moore takes on the role of Countess of Buckingham Mary Villiers, who guided her son, George, to seduce King James I (Tony Curran) in 17th century England in the hopes of becoming his all-powerful lover.
“Mother, have you found me a wife yet?” Galitzine’s George asked in the teaser, to which Moore’s Mary responds, “I think we aim higher.”

"Tell me what you want!" "Don't ever stop driving." An official trailer is out for an indie crime thriller from Australia titled Mercy Road, the latest film made by director John Curran. Not to be confused with Jim Cummings' Thunder Road. This recently premiered at the Melbourne Film Festival and already opened in Australia this month, with a US release coming up soon. In Curran's thriller Mercy Road – an unrelentingly tense psychological thriller – Luke Bracey plays a flawed everyday man who commits an impulsive and vicious crime. In this ultimate journey to redemption, he soon learns just how far he is willing to go to save his child. The cast includes Huw Higginson, Susie Porter, Alex Malone, Martha Kate Morgan, and Toby Jones. Early reviews are positive, saying "Bracey plays a dad on a mission to save his daughter in this strangely surreal film set mostly in a truck.

London, Aug 26 (Ians) England’s left-arm pace all-rounder Sam Curran feels The Hundred has definitely in it to be the second-best tournament in the franchise cricket circuit after the Indian Premier League (Ipl).
Curran will be playing in Sunday’s final of The Hundred for his team Oval Invincibles, and has played for Punjab Kings as well as Chennai Super Kings in the Ipl, apart from representing Mi Cape Town in the inaugural edition of SA20 in South Africa.
“I think players are more used to the format, and teams have been pretty stable over the three years so they are familiar faces to the fans. Good crowds, good pitches, lots of close games … we have had fantastic support. England is a great place to play cricket with all the big grounds and definitely it can be second to Ipl.”
“All the domestic talent we have should make us achieve that anyway.

Harare, July 24 (Ians) A fine all-round performance by Karim Janat helped the Cape Town Samp Army continue to be a step ahead of their rivals, as they eased past the Durban Qalandars and won by 4 wickets, with an over to spare, in the Zim Afro T10 on Monday.
The Cape Town Samp Army have now won four games on the bounce and are top of the points table.
Batting first, the Durban Qalandars lost the in-form Tim Seifert (1) early to Mujeeb Ur Rahman, after which Andre Fletcher (4) and Asif Ali (0) were quickly packed off by Karim Janat. Meanwhile, Hazratullah Zazai was doing the heavy lifting at the other end and trying to keep the run rate moving along at a good clip.
However, he had little support, as Nick Welch (1) too was dismissed cheaply, after which George Linde dug in. The partnership of Linde and Zazai brought some respectability to the score,...

Harare, July 22 (Ians) Wicketkeeper-batsman Robin Uthappa struck a fine 31 but his effort went in vain as the Cape Town Samp Army put in an all-around effort to win their match by 16 runs on the second day of the inaugural edition of the Zim Afro T10 tournament at the Harare Sports Club here on Saturday.
Opting to bat first, the Cape Town Samp Army got off to a flyer with Rahmanullah Gurbaz taking the attack to the Harare Hurricanes bowlers. To be fair to players, it’s the auction dynamics — demand and supply — which often dictates the amount. Players have no control on the amount for which they are signed at the auction except finalising their base price.
However, once the auction is done and dusted, these professionals should ideally accept the reality and concentrate on producing match-winning performances for their franchise. But Ipl history suggests that more often than not, players with big price tags couldn’t deliver as per expectations and same has been the case in the ongoing Ipl 2023 season.
The Ipl franchise spent big money on the likes of Sam Curran, Cameron Green, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook and Mayank Agarwal but their performances have been ordinary.

Dharamsala, May 20 (Ians) Half-centuries from Yashwasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal followed by Shimron Hetmyers’ stunning 46-run knock powered Rajasthan Royals to a 4-wicket win over Punjab Kings (Pbks) in a do-or-die match in Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, here on Friday.
The Royals thus put themselves in contention for the Playoffs spots as they moved to fifth on the table with this four-wicket win while Punjab Kings are officially out of the race.
After a shaky start, Sam Curran’s unbeaten 49 off 31 and Shahrukh Khan’s quickfire 41 not out off 28 balls along with Jitesh Sharma’s 31-ball 44 guided Punjab Kings to 187/5 in 20 overs.
In reply, half-centuries from Padikkal (51 off 30) and Jaiswal (50 off 36) and Hetmyer’s remarkable knock of 46 in just 28 deliveries and got them close to the finish line. Then Dhruv Jurel sealed the deal with a six helping his side to seal a win with two remaining.

Kolkata, May 9 (Ians) Punjab Kings (Pbks) bowling coach Charl Langeveldt lent his support to under-fire all-rounder Sam Curran after another poor show and asserted that the English cricketer is someone who can come back strongly and win games for the team.
Curran returned with the figures of 0/44 from three overs in the match against Kkr at Eden Gardens on Monday. Chasing 180, Kolkata needed 26 to win off the last two overs, smashing Sam Curran for 3 sixes in the 19th over to take Kkr close to the win.
“He’s a winner. You want to back him. He’s our senior bowler as well, you can have days like this. He’s one of those players who can come back and win us a game. It’s just about going back to the drawing board, keep it as simple as possible,” Langeveldt said during the post-match press conference.

New Delhi, May 9 (Ians) Simon Doull believes that Punjab Kings (Pbks) seamer Sam Curran failed to perform well under pressure during the team’s Ipl 2023 encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr).
He said that the tactic used by the English all-rounder to deliver a slower ball ended up having a negative outcome.
With Kolkata requiring 26 off 12 balls, Curran conceded 20 runs as Russell smacked back-to-back maximums. After a dot ball, he went for another six and finished the over with a single, leaving 6 runs for the final over to win.
However, fighting over from pacer Arshdeep Singh created immense pressure and Russell was run out in the penultimate ball trying to sneak in a cheeky signal. With 2 needed off the final ball, Rinku Singh swiped the last ball wide of fine leg for a four to seal the thriller against Punjab Kings on Monday night.
“He (Sam Curran) was the Player of the World Cup.

Mohali, May 3 (Ians) Ishan Kishan slammed a terrific 75 while Suryakumar Yadav brought out his wide array of shots in a whirlwind 66 as the duo shared a 116-run partnership for the third wicket to help Mumbai Indians chase down 215 and beat Punjab Kings by six wickets at the Is Bindra Pca Stadium on Wednesday.
Though the duo fell in the back-end of the chase, Tilak Varma and Tim David kept the attack going to complete the chase with seven balls to spare. The win also means Mumbai have ten points and have gone past Punjab to be at sixth position in the points table.
Mumbai were dealt with a big blow in the opening over as Rohit Sharma danced down the pitch to flay over off-side against Rishi Dhawan. But the top-edge flew to the fielder in the deep, resulting in his dismissal for a three-ball duck.

Mohali, May 3 (Ians) When Punjab Kings, after being put in to bat first, posted 214/3, thanks to Liam Livingstone’s scintillating 82 off 42 balls and Jitesh Sharma continuing his good form to be unbeaten on 49 off 27 balls, while sharing a 119-run stand for the fourth wicket, it seemed Mumbai Indians were on the backfoot.
After conceding 69 runs in the last five overs, Mumbai were even further pushed backwards when Rishi Dhawan dismissed Rohit Sharma for a three-ball duck in the first over and lost Cameron Green in the last over of power-play.
But Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav had other ideas at the Is Bindra Pca Stadium on Wednesday. In front of a vociferous crowd, Kishan slammed a terrific 75 while Suryakumar brought out his innovative array of shots in a whirlwind 66 as the duo shared a match-winning partnership of 116 for the third wicket to help Mumbai Indians chase down 215 and beat Punjab Kings by six wickets.

New Delhi, April 23 (Ians) Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has lauded Sam Curran for his outstanding captaincy skills as Punjab Kings’ (Pbks) skipper, saying that the English all-rounder has exhibited excellent leadership skills despite being new to the captaincy role.
The 24-year-old was handed the captain’s responsibility in the absence of their regular skipper Shikar Dhawan in the last three games and has led the Kings to two wins out of the three games he captained.
“Sam Curran is showing some really good leadership skills, particularly for someone who has not experienced leadership before. He’s captaining a team in the Ipl – the biggest T20 tournament on the planet – and is doing it very very well,” Moody told ESPNcricinfo.
Curran was terrific with the bat as he smashed 55 off 29 deliveries and stitched 92 run partnership off 50 balls with Harpreet Singh (41 off 28) to take his side to 214 in 20 overs.

Mumbai, who are currently sixth in the points table, made just change as Archer returned to the playing XI.
“We are going to have a bowl first. Really nice to have some wins under the belt, winning is always nice and the atmosphere is good but the job is not done. Quite surprisingly nice and pleasant. Looking forward to this game. We have had some injuries but Jofra is back and that is the only change. Mohali, April 20 (Ians) Royal Challengers Bangalore stand-in captain Virat Kohli stated that the feeling within his team at the half-way stage of the game was that the target of 175 for Punjab Kings was a good at the pitch of Is Bindra Pca Stadium in an Ipl 2023 match, here on Thursday.
Kohli and Faf du Plessis, who came as an impact player due to a bruised rib, took Bangalore to 137/0 in 16 overs. Du Plessis was the star of Bangalore’s batting with his 56-ball 84, hitting five fours and as many sixes
On the other hand, Kohli made a 47-ball 59 but he suffered a slowdown in the middle overs as Bangalore lost all four wickets in the death overs, ending up at 174/4 in 20 overs, which was enough eventually to get their first away win of Ipl 2023 by 24 runs.

Mohali, April 20 (Ians) Despite a bruised rib, Faf du Plessis hit 84 off 56 balls on a pitch which wasn’t easy for stroke play at the Is Bindra Pca Stadium while Mohammed Siraj shined in both powerplay and death overs to pick his career-best 4/21 in the league, propelling Royal Challengers Bangalore to a 24-run win over Punjab Kings and their first victory outside home in the ongoing Ipl 2023, here on Thursday.
After being 137/0 in 16 overs, Bangalore could get only 37 runs and lost four wickets in their last four overs, as Punjab staged a strong comeback with their bowlers using cutters and not bowling much fuller deliveries to keep the visitors to 174/4.
But Bangalore had the advantage of having the powerplay in their favour in both innings — 59/0 with the bat and reducing Punjab to 43/4. Siraj was well-supported by Wanindu Hasaranga, Wayne Parnell and Harshal Patel chipping in with wickets. With some superb fielding coming into play,...

Mohali, April 20 (Ians) Sam Curran continues to captain Punjab Kings in absence of injured Shikhar Dhawan as he won the toss and elected to bowl first against a Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Is Bindra Pca Stadium on Thursday.
While Punjab enter Thursday’s match on the back of a two-wicket win coming in the last over against Lucknow Super Giants, Bangalore suffered an eight-run defeat against the Chennai Super Kings, despite fine half-centuries from Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell.
A win for Punjab will help them level with Lucknow and the Rajasthan Royals on points. After winning the toss, Curran said Liam Livingstone and Nathan Ellis come into the playing eleven, with Kagiso Rabada and Sikandar Raza, the player of the match in Punjab’s last game, being the omissions.
“We did well in the last game and we’ll take some confidence, conditions will not change a lot.

Mohali, April 14 (Ians) Defending champions Gujarat Titans were on course to chase down 154 comfortably, thanks to Shubman Gill’s serene 67 off 49 balls, laced with seven fours and a six.
With seven runs needed off the final over on Thursday night, after Arshdeep Singh conceded only six runs in the 19th over, Gill survived a run-out chance, before Sam Curran uprooted his off-stump on the very next ball, bringing sudden tension into the match.
Curran then nailed two back-to-back yorkers, and David Miller completed the second run with a desperate dive. With four runs needed off the last two balls, Rahul Tewatia calmly finished off the chase by moving across and scooping a full ball from Curran over a short fine leg for four to seal the deal for Gujarat with a ball to spare.
After leading Gujarat to their 11th victory out of 12 chasing attempts, Tewatia said his success as...

Mohali, April 14 (Ians) Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya did not expect their clash with Punjab Kings to be a close affair after restricting their opponents to a small total and said they will go back to the drawing board to analyse the reason for that.
