Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour was one of the most in-demand live shows of 2023, bringing in millions of attendees including more than a few star-studded guests. In August, Vice President Kamala Harris attended the singer’s first of two nights in Maryland, and according to annual financial disclosure report, her tickets were on the house — not the White House, but Beyoncé’s House of Renaissance.
Harris brought her husband Doug Emhoff along as her plus one to the show, for which their tickets were valued at $1,655.92. “Thanks for a fun date night,...

The chants and shouts of pro-Palestinian demonstrators disrupted the entry to the Washington Hilton for this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, but once inside, attendees were greeted with what has become the usual scene: Celebrities on the red carpet, a crush for the security line and glitterati packed into a cavernous ballroom.
“I want to thank my wife for enduring lots of jokes and for agreeing to individually meet everyone in this room right after the ceremony,” the evening’s featured entertainer, Colin Jost, quipped about Scarlett Johansson, who posed for photos with a non-stop stream of attendees. She continued to do so later in the evening, at the Comcast-nbcu after party at the French ambassador’s residence.

When Seth MacFarlane introduced Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and Vice President Kamala Harris at a 2024 fundraiser at his home this evening, his guests got a sampling of his irreverent humor.
“When I was asked to host this event, I immediately agreed because I realized if it’s at my house, I can drink as much as I want,” MacFarlane said, per a pool report. “I’m not going to get a DUI on the way to bed.”
“Anyway, now I wanted to get everything right to this introduction. So I practiced how to pronounce your name. Is it Doug?”
The Second Gentleman laughed.
Then MacFarlane referenced abortion, a major issue that Harris has highlighted on the campaign trail.
“Vice President Harris has been a champion of this issue, doing her best under the toughest of circumstances to try to explain to her male colleagues how a period works,” MacFarlane quipped.

President Joe Biden, appearing at one of DC’s oldest traditions, the Gridiron Dinner, made some sharp quips about Donald Trump but then turned serious about the threat that his rival poses to democracy.
Biden directed his barbs at his own age and at his predecessor.
“One candidate’s too old and mentally unfit to be president,” Biden said. “The other guy’s me.”
The dinner tradition, which dates to the 19th century, is a white-tie night that routinely draws the top echelons of government, media and business to watch journalists perform musical skits and politicians, also including Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Utah Governor Spencer Cox, do some of their own standup.
Biden noted that his student debt relief program “doesn’t apply to everyone. Just yesterday, a defeated-looking man came up and said, “I’m being crushed by debt. I’m completely wiped out.” I said, ‘Sorry, Donald I can’t help out.

With CBS in “accelerated development” on “The Gates,” which, if picked up to series, would become the network’s first new daytime soap opera since launching “The Bold and the Beautiful” in 1987, many in the entertainment industry have questioned what that means for “The Talk,” the daytime talk show that replaced the long-running drama series “As The World Turns,” which concluded its run after more than 54 years on the network in September 2010.
Currently in its 14th season, “The Talk” ranks as the third most watched daytime talk show, behind only ABC’s “The View” and syndicated talker “Live with Kelly and Mark.” Despite that, the show is currently down double digits among Total Viewers and the key Women 18-49 sales demographic, often ranking at the bottom half in both categories among all daytime broadcast shows and has remained CBS’ least-watched and lowest-rated daytime series overall since it premiered in October 2010.

First Lady Jill Biden’s guests at President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address tonight will include Maria Shriver, singer and civil rights advocate Bettie Mae Fikes and Uaw President Shawn Fain.
The list of guests who will join the first lady in her box in the House chamber typically gives an indication of the topics that the president will address during his speech. The address, to start at 6 p.m. Pt, will be one of the president’s best opportunities to reach a substantial audience, as it is aired across broadcast and cable networks. That is particularly important this year as he runs for reelection.
Shriver, the former first lady of California, is the founder of the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement and strategic adviser on women’s health and Alzheimer’s at the Cleveland Clinic.
Fikes, known as the “voice of Selma,” served as a member of Selma’s Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee.

Joe Biden’s presidential campaign will try to steal some of the media attention on New Hampshire on Tuesday with a Northern Virginia rally focused on the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s repeal of Roe vs. Wade.
Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will all appear at the rally, with plans to also introduce a new ad targeting women and swing voters. Campaign surrogates also will be holding events, characterizing efforts to restrict abortion at the state level as “Trump’s abortion bans.”
Much of the media focus that day will be on New Hampshire and the Republican primary, as former Un ambassador Nikki Haley tries to slow former President Donald Trump in his effort to secure the party’s nomination. The traffic congestion experienced by Golden Globes attendees Sunday made clear that while here may not appear to not be as much security onsite as in the recent past, things are actually much more buttoned down than usual.
Unlike previous years when there would be a wall of Swat trucks and bomb-cop trucks, the bulk of the Beverly Hills police presence was more behind the scenes today. There was a police perimeter with squad cars and motorcycles set up near the Hilton, 0.2 miles before its entrance, creating a black sedan and limo back-up for those arriving to the red carpet.
With Israel’s powerful response to the murderous Hamas attack October 7 spurring demonstrations almost every few days in Los Angeles County, West Coast law enforcement has been echoing the stern stance the NYPD took on New Year’s Eve. There were a handful apparent protesters out near the Beverly Hills Hilton today,...

Hanging on the wall next to a picturesque window view of the White House grounds in Doug Emhoff’s sunlit corner office is a handmade rectangular wood carving with the words, in all caps, “Second Gentleman.”
When the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris and veteran entertainment lawyer took this newly titled role, it was, as he put it, an “open slate.” The election of his wife as the country’s first female VP meant that, for the first time, there would be a male spouse of one of the White House principals.
Almost three years in to this position, Emhoff said that circumstances, more than anything else, have defined what he does. In the past year in particular, he has become a leading voice on antisemitism, adding to a portfolio that has included such other issues as gender equity and mental health.

Updated, with complete remarks: President Joe Biden told the crowd at a fundraiser this evening, “You’re the reason that Donald Trump is a former president, or he hates when I say it, a defeated president.”
At the Holmby Hills home of designer Michael Smith and former ambassador James Costos, Biden rallied his donors, many of whom backed him in the last campaign, while turning his focus on his likely 2024 rival. He spent a substantial part of his remarks warning of Trump as a threat to democracy, a contrast that many of the president’s steadfast backers believe will boost support as the 2024 campaign gets in full swing.
“Literally, I believe, the future of democracy is at stake,” Biden said, according to a pool report. “The greatest threat Trump poses is to our democracy, because if we lost that, we lose everything.” Read his complete remarks at the end of the story.

Rosalynn Carter was a first lady “who saw her role as going well beyond the essential, warm and welcoming host to being a close and trusted, yes, adviser” to her husband Jimmy Carter, PBS NewsHour senior correspondent Judy Woodruff recalled on Tuesday.
Woodruff was among the speakers at a tribute service for Carter, who died on Nov. 19 at age 96.
Carter’s husband, former President Jimmy Carter, 99, attended the service, as his daughter Amy held his hand for much of the service. Carter himself entered hospice care earlier this year, in part to be near his wife, with whom he was married for 77 years.

Kamala Harris And Doug Emhoff Address Israel-Hamas War Protests At Los Angeles Reelection Fundraiser
Updated: Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, appearing at a Los Angeles re-election fundraiser tonight, each addressed the Israel-Gaza war protests that have highlighted a split on the left.
About two dozen pro-Palestinian demonstrators were outside the event, held at the home of entertainment attorney Cliff Gilbert-Lurie and Leslie Gilbert-Lurie, and some of the protesters chanted “Free Palestine” and held a banner that read “No pride in genocide,” according to a pool report. Demonstrators also threw fake blood in front of the home, and placed their red handprints on the ground, as they have at other protests.
Inside, with about 140 people in attendance, Leslie Gilbert-Lurie introduced Emhoff and told the crowd, “At this heart breaking moment when antisemitism is rapidly gaining traction along with Islamophobia, racism and xenophobia, it is so reassuring to know that the Second Gentleman understands what many of us are experiencing.”

The fundraiser has brought in more than $7.8 million so far and is operated by Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund, a nonprofit based in Kent, Ohio.
Emhoff, whose father, First Gentleman Doug Emhoff, is Jewish, has told reporters that she does not consider herself to be Jewish.
Last week, President Joe Biden called for a humanitarian pause to the bombings, in response to a protestor’s interruptions that he should call for a ceasefire. He clarified that a “pause” was meant to be “time to get the prisoners [Israeli hostages] out.”
Biden said, “This is incredibly complicated for the Israelis… It’s incredibly complicated for the Muslim world as well… I supported a two-state solution, I have from the very beginning.’

Could an October surprise be coming to Hollywood’s picket lines and C-suites?

Ella Emhoff — daughter of second gentleman Doug Emhoff and stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris, that is — stole the show at the New York Fashion Week runway on Saturday.
She modeled for acclaimed fashion designer Prabal Gurung, and showed off her figure in a revealing, mint green top and a stunning, black leather lambskin miniskirt. Emhoff finished off the bold fit with sleek, black gloves and her hair tightly pulled back.
Emhoff is rising through the ranks of the fashion world these days.
Last month, Harper’s Bazaar dubbed her an icon in their feature story, “Ella Emhoff, Artist, Model, and Designer, 23.”
“It’s kind of shocking,” the model shared her reaction with People during Nyfw. “This is an incredible honor and as someone who doesn’t really think of herself like that, it’s nice reassurance. And [it] makes me check myself and the way I perceive myself. So exciting.

Washington, D.C. — To the delight of a standing-room-only audience that included the First Family, the Kennedy Center Honors paid hearty tribute on Sunday night to actor-singer Bette Midler, opera bass-baritone Justino Diaz, Motown founder Berry Gordy, “Saturday Night Live” honcho Lorne Michaels and singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell.
The event, last staged before a live audience in pre-covid 2020, had been conspicuously ignored by former President Donald Trump following criticism from two honorees in 2017. By contrast, President Joe Biden happily reinstated the tradition of hosting honorees at the White House before attending the production. He and First Lady Jill Biden were joined by Vice President Kamala Harris and husband Douglas Emhoff.
The wait by audiences was fully rewarded as the 44-year-old Honors program delivered a seemingly nonstop parade of A-list participants offering heartfelt tributes and rousing entertainment for the honorees gazing down from the president’s box. The show will air Dec.

Update, 7 Pm Pt: Gavin Newsom indicated that he would appoint an African American woman to the U.S. Senate if Dianne Feinstein retires.
“We have multiple names in mind, and the answer is yes,” Newsom told Joy Reid as he appeared The ReidOut.
Feinstein has not said that she is retiring, but Newsom had been under some pressure to fill Kamala Harris’ Senate seat with an African American woman after Harris was elected vice president. Instead, he appointed California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, who became the state’s first Latino senator.
Earlier in the day, Newsom launched a counter campaign to the recall effort and, in addition to the MSNBC appearance, will guest on ABC’s The View on Tuesday.
Newsom said of the recall campaign, “This one is serious, and it’s serious for many different reasons. It’s the uncertainty of being on the ballot with the question up or down,...
