Prime Video Mexico is firing up a new original series, “Mentiras,” based on the popular Mexican stage musical.
Singer-actor Belinda and Luis Gerardo Méndez lead a stellar cast that includes Mariana Treviño (“A Man Called Otto”), Diana Bovio (“Lecciones para canallas”) and Regina Blandón (“Maquíllame otra vez”).
Gabriel Ripstein, whose credits include series “An Unknown Enemy” (“Un extraño enemigo”) and Berlin best first feature winner “600 Miles,” created the series and will serve as director and showrunner.
“In this adaptation, we will pay tribute to a story and characters that the audience adores and expand their universe, thanks to a completely innovative visual narrative,” Ripstein said. “To bring this story to life, told with more than 30 of the most successful songs of the ’80s, we have assembled a spectacular cast and crew.”
The move comes despite system-wide cutbacks announced in January that have seen layoffs across Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios and livestreaming platform Twitch.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched “The Disillusionment of Time,” the Season 1 finale of “The Resort.”
As intricate and text-heavy as “The Resort” is, Andy Siara’s adventure-comedy series manages to say a lot about love with almost no dialogue on the subject.
“I hate a romantic monologue. It is exactly the kind of thing that makes me want to throw up,” William Jackson Harper, who stars in the series as Noah opposite Cristin Milioti’s Emma, tells Variety. The two travel to the Yucatán peninsula for their 10th anniversary, but their marriage is quietly on the rocks. As they miscommunicate again and again, they find themselves investigating the disappearance of two teenagers at the resort 15 years prior — a mystery Siara uses to get at the root of the couple’s problems more subtly.
“I live in a place where I don’t necessarily say everything that’s on my mind.

Over the course of his big screen career, Hart has consistently played the same character time and again: the lovable straight man who invariably loses his cool and hilarious results follow. “Me Time,” a slapdash comedy by writer-director John Hamburg, stars Kevin Hart as Sonny Fisher, a stay-at-home parent suffering from what Betty Friedan labeled “the problem with no name.” Sonny feels lonely and out-of-step around adults with concerns more grown-up than his fixation on minivan technology, elementary school talent shows and a proposal to include plant-based milks in the cafeteria. His wife Maya (Regina Hall), a high-powered architect, proposes that he press pause on his domestic responsibilities to reconnect with his own inner needs. She’ll take their two kids Dash and Ava (Che Tafari and Amentii Sledge) over spring break if he’ll agree to attend the 44th birthday blowout extravaganza of his childhood best friend Huck (Mark Wahlberg), a footloose, Peter Pan-esque party boy whose company isn’t much more mature.

Such is the case with best friends Sonny (Hart), a devoted dad who stays home to take care of his two young kids while his successful architect wife Maya (Regina Hall, too good for...

The temperature was high and the laughs were loud on a steamy summer night in Westwood on Tuesday as Kevin Hart, Mark Wahlberg and Regina Hall hit the red carpet outside the Regency Village Theater to celebrate the premiere of their new Netflix film, Me Time.
The over-the-top family comedy from writer-director John Hamburg (I Love You, Man) centers on Sonny (Hart), an uptight, stay-at-home dad who rediscovers his wild side when he steps out of his comfort zone with his fun-loving friend Huck (Walhberg).
While Hart’s character has to be coaxed into acting out, he admitted to reporters that among his friend group growing up, he was best described as the instigator.

On July 28, 2022, Peacock released its latest original series, “The Resort,” created by Andy Siara (“Palm Springs”) and co-executive produced by Sam Esmail (“Mr. Robot”). The dark comedy mystery stars Critics Choice Awards nominee Cristin Milioti (“Fargo”) and Emmy nominee William Jackson Harper (“The Good Place”) as a married couple celebrating their 10th anniversary in the Mayan Riviera. Their marriage is put to the test when they find themselves embroiled in one of Yucatan’s most bizarre unsolved mysteries from 15 years prior.
After premiering the first three episodes in binge-worthy fashion, the streamer will release singular episodes each Thursday until the season finale on September 1. The show currently holds an impressive freshness rating of 87 on Rotten Tomatoes with the consensus stating, “‘The Resort’ teases more mysteries than it can satisfyingly pay off, but its likable cast and jaunty tone make for a compulsively watchable vacation.”

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Resort Season 1 Episode 4, “A History of Forgetting.”] If you thought you knew The Resort, Episode 4 just changed everything. It was the Baltasar and Alex show from start to finish. Viewers met the 2022 Baltasar in Episode 3 when he scuffled with Emma (Cristin Milioti) and Noah (William Jackson Harper). Luckily, Emma didn’t accidentally kill him, because the black sheep of the Frias family had almost all of the answers they were looking for. The episode is mostly told in flashback with narrations from Méndez. He takes Emma and Noah back to the glory days of the now shut down Oceana Vista, giving much needed context behind Alex’s sticky note-strewn penthouse and the seemingly meaningless mural. We see the beginnings of Baltasar, Alex, and Luna’s (Gabriela Cartol) friendship during the hotel’s five-year prime, ...

When Emma (Cristin Milioti) and Noah (William Jackson Harper) arrive at a Yucatan-area beachfront getaway at the beginning of the new Peacock series “The Resort,” they’re not expecting to dwell on the past. Sure, their trip comes under the guise of celebrating ten years of marriage, but as they and their resort mates soon agree, that anniversary trip is intended to be just as much about what lies ahead.
That all changes when a mishap on a day trip excursion starts Emma on a serpentine path through a local unsolved mystery involving two young visitors to the area over the 2007 holiday season. Slowly and assuredly, “The Resort” becomes a two-pronged play, with Emma and a reluctant Noah searching for the truth, interspersed with what did happen for and to Sam (Skyler Gisondo) and Violet (Nina Bloomgarden) in those nights around Christmas. The first in a series of choices that...

In Peacock’s The Resort, a cold case gives a disenchanted couple reason to hang on a while longer.
Cristin Milioti and William Jackson Harper star as Emma and Noah Reid, whose 10-year matrimony is in desperate need of a tuneup by the time their shuttle drops them off at Bahia del Paraiso. On their first night, Noah passes out on the couch and Emma heads to the pool, where she takes an online quiz to determine whether she should end the relationship. However, the last question — “When you think of your future, is your spouse in it?” — stops her dead in her tracks.

This article for The Resort contains no spoilers.
“Unique,” “mysterious,” “bizarre,” “wild,” and “like nothing you’ve ever seen before”—these are just a few of the phrases the cast of Peacock’s upcoming thriller/mystery/romance series The Resort used to describe the series when speaking to Den of Geek during San Diego Comic-Con. But it’s possible that none of their answers actually go far enough.
Okay, okay, maybe star Cristin Milioti’s declaration that the show “is as if Romancing the Stone and Jurassic Park were combined, but also were about the disappointment of getting older” comes close. But it’s still not quite there.
On the surface, The Resort feels familiar. Or, at the very least, as though it should be familiar. A pair of overworked millennials head to a Mexican resort on the Mayan Riviera to celebrate their tenth anniversary, a trip that seems to...

To say that “The Resort” has more to offer than it seems is saying something, considering just how much it already has at first glance. Created by “Palm Springs” writer Andy Siara, and with a stacked cast led by the always killer Caitlin Milioti and William Jackson Harper, the series unpacks a mystery that only gets wilder, deeper, and more disorienting with each passing episode. One of the year’s most intriguing TV surprises, “The Resort” will deserve a bigger audience than it’ll likely get on Peacock.
In the beginning, Siara and Allison Miller’s “The Resort” presents itself as a relatively straightforward story, albeit one unfolding in two parallel timelines. In 2007, Violet (Nina Bloomgarden) and Sam (Skyler Gisondo) meet at a resort in Mexico before disappearing into thin air the night before a catastrophic hurricane. In 2022, Emma (Milioti) and her husband Noah (Harper) stumble upon the first clue...

At the heart of nearly every character and every action in The Resort is a variation on the same question: What is the point? Does an idle doodle have to have a point? What about a cryptic, vaguely sinister-looking mural? What’s the point of a mystery if there are no answers? What is the point of life, with all its attendant tragedies and disappointments — or is life itself the point of life, since every moment is the result of every moment that came before it?
Inevitably, this search for meaning circles around to what might be the biggest question of all, at least in this specific context: What is the point of The Resort?
As a mystery, it’s no great shakes. Its serpentine plot starts strong before getting lost in the weeds, ultimately arriving at a destination that hardly feels worth...

We are blessed with a deluge of originals, with new series dropping all the time across a spectrum of streaming networks.
Peacock's The Resort is brilliant and engaging from start to finish, and it should swim to the top of your what-to-watch list.
This comedic, emotional thriller hits all the right notes.
Creator and showrunner Andy Siara had always wanted to " make a big summer movie with mystery, detectives, adventure, comedy, tragedy, romance, a natural disaster, plus a dose of the surreal and existential." He claims The Resort captures everything he'd dreamed for his dream project.
Now, I'm not keen on creators professing to bring the big screen to episodic television. It suggests that you cannot find comparable entertainment with a different medium.
TV has proven it's just as worthy a medium as the big screen. The volume of successful shows demonstrates that moving away from broadcast networks to cable...

At first brief glance, The Resort may seem like The White Lotus. But while the Peacock and HBO titles may have crime mysteries and vacation dramas connecting families and hotel staff in common, that’s where the similarities end. Led by Cristin Milioti and William Jackson Harper, Peacock’s The Resort (premiering July 28 with its first three episodes) is a mind-bending series that would do well with an introduction from The Twilight Zone‘s Rod Serling. It’s Palm Springs screenwriter Andy Siara’s latest addition to the increasingly popular genre of multiverses, tales messing with time, and as star Luis Gerardo Méndez (Narcos: Mexico) describes it to TV Insider, “what time does to you” and how it both “destroys everything and heals everything.” Peacock describes the comedic thriller as a multi-generational, coming-of-age love story disguised as a fast-paced mystery about the disappointment of time. The premiere is titled “The Disappointment of Time,...

We’ve finally got some answers about Andy Siara’s upcoming Peacock series “The Resort.”
A trailer for the comedic thriller released Wednesday shows Cristin Milioti and William Jackson Harper trying to solve a case about two young people who went missing from a resort 15 years earlier, while they’re on a vacation to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
As the mystery starts to unfold, they realize things might be more sinister than they imagined. (You can watch the full trailer above.)
Earlier this month, Peacock released a few first look images that left us with a lot more questions than answers. The trailer helps piece together more about the circumstances of the mystery at hand, though how they become so embroiled in it remains to be seen.
