Netflix has revealed that Brian Simpson: Live from the Mothership, the first hour-long special from up-and-coming comedian Brian Simpson, will debut globally on the platform on March 19.
Directed by Baron Vaughn, the special is the first ever to have been shot at The Comedy Mothership, the premier Austin, TX comedy venue owned by Joe Rogan. In it, Simpson covers everything from racism and gun violence to in vitro fertilization and masculinity. He brings the special to Netflix after doing a short set for the streamer’s show The Standups, having also put in an appearance on its comedian showcase That’s My Time With David Letterman.
“Shooting this at The Comedy Mothership was an incredible experience,” Simpson said, “and I can’t wait to share it with a wider audience.”
A former foster child and Marine Corps veteran, Simpson found his calling in L.A.’s comedy scene following his period of service.

The longevity of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" has been fascinating to behold. Beginning on Minnesota public access television in 1988, Joel Hodgson's watch-bad-movies-with-sarcastic-buddies cult TV series has deeply entrenched itself into the collected Jungian lore of every Gen-Xer worth their weight in flannel. For much of its life, "MST3K" lived either on Ktma in Minneapolis or, when it became more successful, running at midnight on Comedy Central.
Throughout, the show famously included the phrase "Keep circulating the tapes" in its credits. That was an acknowledgement from the show's producers that world-of-mouth and shared VHS recordings of "MST3K" were responsible for its modest cultural foothold. Fans would call friends, mail them cassettes, and implore that the cult grow. In 2008, when "MST3K" was finally made widely available through DVD box sets, Dr. Forrester/Crow T. Robot actor Trace Beaulieu said in an Av Club interview to "Keep circulating some of the tapes.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 season 13 officially premiered on May 6, but Kickstarter backers were given early access to the first episode, “Santo in the Treasure of Dracula,” on March 4. The live event, the first hosted by MST3K’s own app, the Gizmoplex, opened with 20 minutes of technical difficulties. A black screen with a white dot sporadically gave updates as the audience waited. Once the movie started, there was terrible sound quality. The end credits weren’t done yet, either.
And it was the most fun MST3K has been in a long time.
Everyone behind the scenes seemed to feel it too – the adrenaline of a near-disaster. The live post-show chat was filled with jokes about the difficulties of getting the episode to air, with the production team reveling in the mishaps and the occasionally jury-rigged solutions to their newly pared-down budget.

We’ve got movie sign: Some three years after Netflix canceled the revival of “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” the cult classic is back. As was the case with the series’ streaming return in 2017, the fans were instrumental, with creator Joel Hodgson once more turning to Kickstarter to gauge just how badly MSTies (as they prefer to be called) wanted more episodes of movie riffing.
Very badly, as it turns out: The crowdfunding effort netted a whopping 6.5 million, hitting its initial 2 million benchmark in a single day. Enter The Gizmoplex, an online one-stop shop for the new, 13th season of the show, along with classic episodes, live events, fresh shorts, Easter eggs, and all manner of special content for subscribers — all wrapped up in an interface inspired by vintage point-and-click adventure games.

[Warning: The following article and interview contain spoilers about the series finale of “Grace and Frankie.”]
Costume designer Allyson Fanger has worked on all seven seasons of Netflix’s “Grace and Frankie,” and her looks for the title characters played by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are immediately recognizable. But in the seventh and final season, the characters change as they walk off into the sunset – figuratively and literally – and so did Fanger’s designs. Her past work on the series has earned five consecutive Emmy nominations for contemporary costumes. Watch our exclusive video interview above.
For the past few years, Fonda has been sporting her natural gray hair, so now her character Grace does as well in the final batch of episodes. “We really had to change her whole palate,” says Fanger of how to accommodate the actress’ hair color into her wardrobe choices. The buttoned-up character had once started out “very, very neutral,” but as the designer explains, “Over the seasons...

Will Smith is down another job. This Joka, the Roku stand-up comedy series that he executive produces, will not return for a second season, according to Deadline. And, per the publication, Will's slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars had nothing to do with the decision. The show brought together up-and-coming and established comedians to talk about the art of stand-up. The first season featured appearances from comedians such as Punkie Johnson, Demi Adejuyigbe and Baron Vaughn. Shot in Las Vegas, the series also featured one-on-one conversations between Will and the comedians. The show's cancelation is a bit more complicated than it may appear. According to...

Exclusive: This Joka, a stand-up comedy series exec produced by Will Smith, will not be returning for a second season on Roku.
The streaming service launched the series, which came via its acquisition of short-form service Quibi, in March.
The series features a raft of stand ups including Punkie Johnson and Chris Estrada.
Deadline understands that the decision had nothing to do with the Oscars incident, where Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage, but a somewhat unusual issue with timing.
Roku is believed to never really have had the option to renew the series, which is produced by Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Studios and Topgolf Entertainment Group. The option to renew lapsed before Roku launched the show, and certainly before the streamer had the chance to analyse its viewing data, meaning that it was unlikely to return for a second season on the platform.

Spoiler Alert! Do not read until you’ve binged the seventh and final season of Grace and Frankie on Netflix.
As promised, Dolly Parton joined her 9 to 5 co-stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as a guest star in the series finale of Grace and Frankie — and she behaved like an absolute angel!
Actually, Parton’s Agnes is more of a “working class angel” in heaven who hasn’t “had a promotion in 250 years.” She was the one who greeted Grace (Fonda) and Frankie (Tomlin) at the proverbial Pearly gates after they lost their lives in a freak accident involving booze and a mic. But a clerical error was inadvertently made on Gracie’s behalf; her time on earth was not meant to be over. Frankie, however, was right where she belonged — until Agnes granted her stay and sent both women back to the land of the living.

When “Grace and Frankie” debuted in May of 2015, it’s doubtful even creators Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris or stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin would have expected the show to have such long-lasting sucess. But the Netflix comedy was a juggernaut hit for the streaming platform, and kind of a unicorn in terms of its longevity. Upon its final season, which arrives this month, “Grace and Frankie” is the longest-running Netflix original series in the history of the service. But as the old adage says, all good things must come to an end.
On Thursday, the official trailer for the seventh and final season of “Grace and Frankie” was released by Netflix and the marketing materials tease an emotional farewell to the long-running comedy series.
The synopsis for the season reads as follows:

Legendary actresses Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin have broken records and barriers during their respective, half-century spanning careers, but the two icons are still making history, by leading Netflix’s longest-running original series.
“Grace & Frankie” returns for Season 7 April 29, with both Grace (Fonda) and Frankie (Tomlin) looking to the end.
“I’d rather take a crazy ride with you than a normal ride with anybody else,” Grace tells Frankie, who proposes a “Thelma & Louise”-style sendoff.
From reflecting on the “wasted time” with the men in their lives to facing fears, the two characters have redefined what it means to “act your age.”
“I’m 80 years old,” Grace says in the trailer. “I’ve earned the right to take my sweet fucking time.”

The end is approaching for Grace and Frankie, and we are not ready to say goodbye.
Netflix on Thursday dropped a full-length trailer for the final 12 episodes of the heartwarming comedy series.
The trailer is essentially a celebration of our titular leads' relationship, which has taken many forms throughout the seven seasons.
Whatever anyone says about their friendship, it cannot be denied that they love each other deeply, and their lives were forever changed when they were bonded forever.
"Seven years ago, Grace and Frankie’s lives turned upside down when their longtime husbands left them for… each other," the logline teases.
"Both sparring partners and partners-in-crime, Grace and Frankie formed an unlikely and unbreakable bond as they faced uncertain futures head-on, and hand-in-hand."
"They’ve laughed together, cried together, did shrooms together, and twice-over became successful entrepreneurs together," it continues.

“It was a crazy ride but I’d rather take a crazy ride with you than a normal ride with anybody else.”
So says Grace (Jane Fonda), as she and best roomie Frankie (Lily Tomlin) prepare for the end of Grace and Frankie, Netflix’s longest-running original series. By the time it’s all over this season, the comedy from Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris will have made a whopping 94 episodes.
The trailer for the seventh and final season that returns April 29 looks back at the good times, and those memorable moments when Grace dropped the F-bomb to make an important point. For those who haven’t sampled the laugher that also stars Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston (and seriously why have you not?), the comedy is about a pair of divorcées (masterfully played by Fonda and Tomlin) whose husbands left them to marry each other.

"When you watch things change, you barely even notice it happen. Skip ahead and you can really see how things are." FilmRise has unveiled an official trailer for an indie romantic drama titled The Time Capsule, which isn't really a time travel film as much as it is a clever look at love & time. Here's the setup for this one: In the near future, a politician fresh off an electoral loss escapes to his family's summer lake house with his controlling wife. His vacation is disrupted by the appearance of his first love, who has just returned from a 20-year space voyage and oddly hasn't aged a day. The film stars Todd Grinnell, Brianna Hildebrand, KaDee Strickland, Baron Vaughn, and Ravi Patel. It doesn't look as bad as expected from the premise, and I'm curious if he gives up politics by the end. There's at least one intriguing shot with all these colors.

Well, almost. Mystery Science Theater 3000 season 13 debuts at 8 pm Est on Friday, March 4th! Nor will it be on Netflix, like seasons 11 and 12.
No, season 13 will be streaming on the Gizmoplex, a streaming service designed especially for MST3K. Mystery Science Theater 3000’s Turkey Day isn’t just an annual marathon of classic episodes to sit back and watch on Thanksgiving. Depending on the timing, fans watch it hoping to see some kind of news. In this era when MST3K’s always in flux, viewers have their fingers crossed that we’re going to see some kind of look into the future of the franchise. Luckily, Turkey Day 2021 gave us plenty to sink our teeth into.
To get us back up to speed, after years of being off TV, a Kickstarter campaign started up in 2015 and successfully brought MST3K back for an eleventh season on Netflix for 2017. To get us back up to speed, after years of being off TV, a Kickstarter campaign started up in 2015 and successfully brought MST3K back for an eleventh season on Netflix for 2017. It ran for fourteen episodes and while the new cast needed some time to figure themselves out, it had plenty of high notes. Then things seemed to wither before it had a chance to soar.

Where to Watch “Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return”: Netflix
It doesn’t come until about a half-hour into the first Netflix original episode of “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” but take a few minutes and just bask in “Every Country Has a Monster.” First off, the “What’s your deal? Why don’t you shave?” is the kind of non sequitur that Crow (an impeccable Hampton Yount) thrives on. Then, there’s the carvings, from the etched map to the parade of mythological creature standees that quickly pile up on top of it.
As for the song itself, it’s the linguistic version of “American Ninja Warrior.” That “Congo’s kongamato is a mondo flyin’ dino / I know I don’t wanna die, but when I do, he’ll be the guy” section is Jonah Ray doing the tongue/mouth equivalent of a one-handed salmon ladder.

When it comes to Thanksgiving, we all have our non-eating traditions. Many like to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade or check out a game or two of football. For many a geek, Thanksgiving is a day that lets us sit back and watch a whole lot of Mystery Science Theater 3000. It’s part of the show’s DNA. The first episode debuted back on Thanksgiving in 1988. Then the idea of a Thanksgiving marathon became a regular part of Comedy Central’s calendar. Years later, MST3K episodes would be spread through Thanksgiving whether or not there was any news on new seasons being in the works.
Luckily, this is one of those years where there’s a new season in the works! As we await MST3K Season 13, we’ll get another MST3K Turkey Day on our plate to enjoy. On November 25, starting at 9am Et, we’re getting eight classic episodes.
