Exclusive: As the FilmNation Entertainment team gathered in Santa Monica this week for the American Film Market, some reflection is in order. It has been 15 years since Glen Basner started the venture. Despite the hardships facing everyone at AFM with strikes and uncertainty, what a different a decade and a half makes. The launch happened in 2008, not the most fortuitous time to launch an indie film finance and production company with global ambitions.
“Back then, Summit and Mandate were the two top companies in the space,” Basner recalled when assessing the opportunity to launch a company back then. “Mandate was sold to Lionsgate and became a U.S. distributor, and Summit started their own U.S. distribution company. There was a hole in the marketplace we thought we could fill, and become that leading American international sales agent for feature films that had no connection to the U.S. distribution world.

Remember how in 2008 we all thought a Day Of The Dead remake co-starring Nick Cannon was the lowest low? Well, sorry 2016 us – it’s only gotten worse. Hèctor Hernández Vicens’ Day Of The Dead: Bloodline is – against all odds – an even more ill-advised rehashing than Steve Miner’s. How? Hold on, let me unravel the mile-long scroll of notes I scribbled…ah. How about digitally abhorrent CGI scars and blood splatters? Horrendous Adr that starts the film with mismatched voices to mouths? Angled camera shots of half-empty rooms – like, who watched 1985’s Day Of The Dead and decided it needed more rape? If you’re going to remake history, there better be a good reason – case and point.

A twisted, cold-hearted monster features in this newly-released clip for Day of the Dead: Bloodline – and we’re not referring to the undead.
In fact, it’s a reanimated zombie that winds up saving the day, as Sophie Skelton’s heroine comes face-to-face with a sexual harasser (John Schaech) named Max. What follows is an unnerving exchange between Skelton and Schaech’s respective survivors, before the latter makes an unwanted advance.
Whether intentional or not, this Bloodline clip, one which arrives on the eve or release, appears to be ripped straight from the headlines, with the only difference being that a flesh-munching zombie arrives just in time to thwart an attempted rape. Because who said the undead always have to be portrayed as the bad guys?
Story-wise, Day of the Dead: Bloodline takes place in a “post-apocalyptic, zombie-filled world where a former med school student is tormented by a dark figure from her past.

Updated: NBC has passed on Conception, its supernatural mystery drama project from writer John Glenn and producer David Janollari. The project, from Universal Television, where Glenn’s and Janollari’s companies are based, was set up at at the network in August with a put pilot commitment, a rare such big commitment for a pitch from a sibling studio. Co-written by Glenn and Lars Jacobson, Conception tracks a modern-day immaculate conception on a large scale. The show was to follow those few children that survived and how they’re destined to change the world. Being a big-swing, out-there concept, NBC in January opted to order backup scripts (3) instead of a pilot to get a better grasp of the idea and how it would evolve. However, the network since greenlighted the Heroes: Reborn event miniseries, and I hear NBC brass felt the two projects were too similar. It is unclear yet...

(Cbr) House at the End of the Street director Mark Tonderai will remake George A. Romero’s 1985 zombie film Day of the Dead for Millennium Films. Deadline offers a one-sentence summary of the remake: “In this new version, years after the zombie plague has wiped out most of Earth’s population, a group of scientists and survivors attempt to find a cure, and instead open Pandora’s box.” Millennium announced the remake in July, with "Texas Chainsaw 3D" producers Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell attached. Tonderai wrote the script with Lars Jacobson, and they’re looking for a summer 2014 release.

No, you’re not imagining things. Just five years from a 2008 direct-to-dvd low-budget remake, a new cheap remake of George A. Romero’s “Day Of The Dead” is shuffling across our screens next year courtesy of Millennium Films and Campbell Grobman Films. Deadline reports “House At The End Of The Street”—aka that Jennifer Lawrence horror movie—helmer Mark Tonderai has been tapped to direct the remake from a screenplay he co-wrote with Lars Jacobson. This modern-day version takes place “after the zombie plague has wiped out most of Earth’s population, [where] a group of scientists and survivors attempt to find a cure, and instead open Pandora’s box.” Production is set to start next summer. Although we weren’t quite as taken with it as others were (read our mixed review here), John Krokidas’ directorial debut “Kill Your Darlings” made a big splash earlier this year and has made a certain studio take note.

Millennium Films just hired "House At the End of the Street" director Mark Tonderai to helm the company's modern-day remake of George Romero's "Day of the Dead" zombie film. In this new version, years after the zombie plague has wiped out most of Earth's population, a group of scientists and survivors attempt to find a cure, and instead open Pandora's box. Tonderai wrote the script with Lars Jacobson. Romero directed the original movie back in 1985. Millennium then remade it in 2008 with Mena Suvari, Nick Cannon and director Steve Miner. The new version will begin casting soon and then go into production during the summer of 2014.

There are a lot of stories to be told involving zombies, but cinema is not often the place where new stories are told. For every slice of brow-beating originality like World War Z, there are a few dozen made-for-pennies films that go by something along the lines of Zombies vs. Abolitionists . But there.s no need to come up with new zombie movies so long as there are George Romero films to remake. And the upcoming Day of the Dead remake from Millennium Films has landed its director in Mark Tonderai, best known for Jennifer Lawrence.s (arguably) worst film, last year.s House at the End of the Street. I guess it makes sense that he.s the guy they hired, since he co-wrote the script with Lars Jacobson, who wrote and directed 2008.s pitch black thriller Baby Blues. Why remake a genre classic once, when you can remake it twice? Such is the philosophy at Millennium films.
Deadline brings word that Millennium is re-remaking George Romero’s Day of the Dead. In 2008 they made a new version starring Mena Suvari and Nick Cannon with Steve Miner directing.
The new remake will be directed by House at the End of the Street’s Mark Tonderai from a script he wrote with Lars Jacobson.

Announced back in July, the latest reboot (the second, for those keeping score) of George A. Romero’s Day Of The Dead was met with both the usual remake reactions and some wondering if a second chance might be able to improve on at least the first reworking. The man in charge of getting it shot is House At The End Of The Street director Mark Tonderai. He’s been involved for a while, writing the script with Lars Jacobson. The plot appears to hew fairly close to the original, in that it’s set several years after the start of the zombie plague and a group of scientists and survivors are sheltering in a seemingly secure location trying desperately to find a cure. Will Tonderai opt for modern, sprinting zomboids, or classic stumbling ones? No casting for this one has been announced just yet, though you’d imagine the...

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell acquired the rights to remake George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead. The project continues to move forward and we now know who will be directing the movie.
According to Deadline, Millennium Films has hired Mark Tonderai to take on this project. Previously, Tonderai directed 2012′s House at the End of the Street, starring Jennifer Lawrence. As well as coming on board as the director, he also wrote the script with Lars Jacobson. There aren’t too many details on the story at this time, except for the fact that it’s a modern-day retelling of Romero’s story and we have a brief synopsis from the most recent report:
