Suicide Squad Isekai, marking Eri Osada’s directorial debut, is DC’s first opportunity to step into the world of anime, something Marvel finds itself having indulged in years ago. At the same time, this gives the franchise an opportunity to expand in a medium that would make even more fans enjoy the upcoming series and all that it has to offer. With the anime comes fresh looks to already loved characters.

Actor Grant Gustin wore the Flash suit for nine years as he starred as the titular character in The CW’s The Flash. A part of the Arrowverse series of TV shows, The Flash saw Barry Allen become the scarlet speedster after being struck by lightning in Central City. The series sees him fight various antagonists and also find the killer of his mother.

After garnering immense popularity following his appearance in Arrow, Grant Gustin’s Scarlet Speedster received his own standalone series in 2014, often considered the peak of the Arrowverse. Although the next two seasons had their fair share of issues but were received positively, from season 4, it was all downhill for the series, and it hit a new low with season 7.
While The Flash was notable for its pop culture references, season 7’s finale went a little above and beyond with its Star Wars homage, which didn’t sit well with fans in the slightest.

The CW has spawned a number of DC shows in the past few decades, and The Flash stands among the best of them. Running for nine seasons, the TV show chronicled the journey of the Scarlet Speedster, while also having crossovers and making cameos in other DC shows. It is well known how liberating the animated medium is when it comes to adapting comic-book-oriented storylines, as proven by a significant number of DC’s animated ventures. For an incredibly important story like Crisis on Infinite Earths, an animated adaptation was necessary to translate the scope of the series for a wider audience. Having the adaptation divided into three parts was a good creative decision as well, as with a vast area to cover, dividing the story into segments helps to focus on distinct portions without making things too confusing for the audience. The first part of the Crisis on Infinite Earths movie trilogy was released earlier this year, and the emotional anchor of the story through Barry Allen’s, aka Prime Earth’s Flash’s, life contributed an interesting, comics accurate angle to the adaptation. However, with the recently released second part, it seems the makers have dropped the ball big time,...

Time and tide wait for none, even if you are an extremely overpowered speedster with the ability to transcend the barriers of different dimensions and universes. As DC’s present animated cinematic universe, dubbed Tomorrowverse, reaches the end of its journey with the adaptation of one of comics’ most important series, Crisis on Infinite Earths, in trilogy form, the first part focuses on the scarlet speedster Barry Allen, aka Flash, and his seminal role in the overarching narrative. In a sense, it’s a befitting conclusion (not even mentioning the key role Flash played in all the DC “Crisis”) given that Barry was the only surviving member of the previous cinematic universe Dcamu and also the one who introduced viewers to Tomorrowverse, acting as a link to tie in different iterations of characters, universes, and realities.

Cavanagh recently said that he would be amenable to reprising his role as Reverse-Flash in James Gunn’s upcoming DC Universe. Well, the Guardians of the Galaxy director, 57, would have a good reason to bring the Canadian actor back to the role in the Dcu since the viewers praised his portrayal of Eobard Thawne.

Michael Keaton is regarded as one of the finest actors in the entertainment industry who gained worldwide recognition when he starred as Bruce Wayne a.k.a., Batman in 1989’s Batman and later 1992’s Batman Returns. Directed by Tim Burton, the DC superhero movie was only given a green signal after Burton’s 1988 Beetlejuice was a success.
Keaton’s casting was considered a controversy at the time since the actor had been pigeonholed as a comic actor and fans along with critics weren’t sure if he could portray a serious character like Batman. The actor’s performance was highly lauded by the audience and the critics after the movie was released. The actor recently reprised the character for 2023’s The Flash and was later asked about the future of his Batman in Dcu.

Tom Cavanagh who played Reverse-Flash in the CW series The Flash, is now ready to jump ship to DC. The actor made his return to the CW show for its series finale and the actor recently revealed that he is willing to appear in James Gunn’s new DC universe.
Tom Cavanagh as Reverse Flash
Reverse Flash is one of the wonderful additions to the world of Barry Allen in CW, the fitting nemesis to the Speedster. However, as the show has reached the final end, new reports suggest that Cavanagh is not over playing the character.

James Gunn’s Dcu revamp created opportunities for many actors as he intends to change the entire atmosphere. The DC boss has already sidelined the mainline DC hero actors including Superman actor Henry Cavill and Batman star Ben Affleck from Snyderverse.

Superpowers usually have a lot of implications that we don’t see on screen. While properties like My Hero Academia dive deep into these implications, superhero universes like the MCU tend to shy away from them. For example, Captain America has a metabolism that is four times faster than the average human being, as revealed in Captain America: The First Avenger. While it keeps Captain America from getting drunk, it also has certain other implications for his body.
Chris Evans in Captain America: The First Avenger
Chris Evans’ Captain America, who has been an important part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having been part of some of its biggest conflicts, might have been fighting his own body all along as well. As this Marvel theory suggests, the super soldier serum might have given Steve Rogers a host of powers but also created a particularly strong gastric problem for The First...

The Flash is one of the most powerful superheroes in the DC Universe who possesses an ability to move at incredible speed which also affects him to think extremely fast and use tricks which is normally defied by the laws of physics. Given his iconic powers, comic-book fans must be well-versed in his tragic story that left a grave impact on his life.

Superman’s future looks considerably brighter as James Gunn prepares the new version of the DC Universe. Further, even Jack Quaid’s 2023 animated TV series My Adventures With Superman, featured the superhero as a heartfelt and charming one. To be specific, ever since the end of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel era, the fan-favorite character has witnessed bright and positive days.
Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell in The Boys
The grim and gritty Superman is now considered a thing of the past. With James Gunn promising to bring a more hopeful Kryptonian, Henry Cavill’s gritty version is now history. However, despite starring as the Last Son of Krypton in the PG-rated 2023 animated TV series, Jack Quaid offered his rare support to Cavill’s grim version of Kal-El. Although he preferred starring as the positive and proactive version, he has nothing against the darker versions of Superman.

Grant Gustin is arguably the most popular actor ever to helm the role of Barry Allen/ The Flash, who played the character in The CW series as part of the Arrowverse. Zack Snyder may not be part of the DC verse anymore, but he has given us some of the best Dceu movies of all time. One of these few movies is Justice League. Although the director had to leave midway during the movie’s production, the project brought one of the most iconic comic book scenes on the big screen.
The Flash races against Superman in Justice League
While the movie failed to reveal who is the winner, it featured a Superman vs. Flash race, an event that has occurred many times in comic books. This one scene has a surprising and special connection to Lex Luthor that would really melt the fans’ hearts.

American actor Grant Gustin kickstarted his acting career in 2004 while still in high school. He had landed a role in the movie Rain, in which he played the role of a mute young man who helped a man solve the mystery of his wife’s murder with visions he was getting. The director/producer, Neil Grochmal, had said that Gustin would have a great future in acting, and he wasn’t wrong.
Years later, Gustin did what could be regarded as one of the most important roles he has played to date. That role is none other than that of the DC superhero character Barry Allen, popularly known as The Flash. This role catapulted him to fame, and for those wondering if he would ever return as The Flash, he has put forward one condition under which he would do so.

Ezra Miller has been a topic of criticism for a long time, but this time, fans are united as his portrayal of the Flash has been despised by the fans and critics alike. Even in his standalone film in 2023, fans were left dissatisfied with his portrayal of the character as Barry Allen is showcased as a charming and witty character. However, Miller lacks that depth, and following his controversies, DC fans would often nitpick intricate details that would undermine his portrayal.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One Movie Review Rating:

Review of Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One: A Disappointing Start to Crisis (Photo Credit – IMDb)
What’s Good: The voice cast, including Matt Bomer, Ashleigh Lathrop, and Christopher North, delivers performances on par with previous entries in the franchise. Bomer’s earnest portrayal of The Flash echoes the character’s Silver Age origins, while Lathrop and North contribute essential enthusiasm and finesse to their respective roles. Despite the film’s shortcomings, the voice actors bring their characters to life with notable performances.
What’s Bad: The film’s emotional core, the love tale between Barry Allen and Iris West, needs more depth, leaving the audience detached. The film struggles with internal contradictions, attempting to...

Welcome to Sales to Astonish, a new column in association with comics retailer The Unreality Store, in which Matthew De Monti brings us news on comic sales and the general moves in the comic market over the past month or so!
To start the Year in Review I’ll start with looking at sales by product type and then touch upon some general themes at the end.
Marvel Comics
2023 for me has undoubtedly been all about Marvel with back issue sales accounting for around 60% of the year’s sales. I’ve been staggered by the continued demand for Marvel back issues, especially titles from the late 80’s and early 90’s that I can remember hitting the shelves. Many of these issues, especially the likes of X-Men and Spiderman had print runs into the hundreds of thousands every month so you would think that there is an abundance of copies out there.

Friends, Bialyans, DC fans, lend me your ears. We come not to bury the DC Extended Universe, but to praise it. Yes, the franchise has met its ignoble end with the bloated but lackluster Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and yes, the franchise gave us the internet scourge known as Snyder Bros.
But no one who loves superhero movies can dismiss the entire ordeal. There will be time to analyze the many mistakes of DC’s first live-action cinematic universe or to continue looking forward to what James Gunn and Peter Safran have in store for DC Studios. For now, let’s look at the good things accomplished by the Dceu, a massive project that saw 15 movies released in 11 years. Here are eight great aspects to the Dceu, aspects that deserve to live on under Gunn and Safran’s tenure, and should be adopted by Marvel, unless the MCU wants to suffer the same fate.

Even before the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Dceu’s aspirations of building a cohesive, interconnected universe had come to an abrupt end with the prospect of a big-scale reboot spanning through upcoming live-action and animated ventures. For fans who grew up in the late 1990s, when DC’s diversified animated ventures dominated the pop culture scene, or even earlier than that, when in printed comics DC exemplified absolute dominance in sheer variety and quality of titles, it was inconceivable that its first attempt at live-action world-building would meet a disastrous end—let alone not even come close to replicating the success of the aforementioned mediums. However, even amidst the haphazard, clueless continuity problems, poor reception, and mismanagement, there were silver linings in the form of some iconic moments scattered across sixteen movies and a TV series, which fans will surely remember in years to come. As we bid farewell to Dceu,...

Well, Schmoes, as 2023 finally draws to a close, we reflect on another unique year for movie fans. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes shook up the release schedule, but we still got a ton of movies on the big screen and via countless streaming platforms. Some of these may shock you, and some may piss you off, but these are my honest-to-goodness perspective of the movies of 2023. George Clooney shocked the DC Universe this summer when he returned to the role of Bruce Wayne, after 25 years, for a cameo appearance in The Flash — and is now confirming that was a one-and-done reprisal.
Clooney infamously played Bruce Wayne/Batman in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, the 1997 movie that was considered one of the worst superhero films of all time. The actor has repeatedly spoken out against the film, telling Howard Stern in 2020, “Akiva Goldsman — who’s won the Oscar for writing since then — he wrote the screenplay. And it’s a terrible screenplay, he’ll tell you. I’m terrible in it, I’ll tell you.”

And it’s a terrible screenplay, he’ll tell you. I’m terrible in it, I’ll tell you.”

Nicolas Cage is invading everyone’s dreams in his new A24 film Dream Scenario. After a dark era of doing straight-to-video film after straight-to-video film, Cage is looking like he’s still finding some dramatic inspiration with his new movie. Our own Chris Bumbray glowed in his review, “Dream Scenario is a clever social satire that should do wonders for Cage’s indie cred. Ultraman: Rising is an upcoming action-packed animated film based on a kaiju villain and a superhero who is a baseball player and has to protect Earth against a huge monster. Netflix released the official teaser trailer of Ultraman: Rising during the 2023 GeekedWeek in November. From the first looks of it, the whole superhero demeanor of Ultraman looks like that of a combination of The Flash’s Barry Allen, MCU’s Antman, and Ben 10’s Omnitrix aliens. For those wondering whether Ultraman belongs to Marvel or DC — it belongs to neither. While there are both separate Marvel and DC characters named...
