Okay, we know that Cannes is the big thing at the moment and that everyone’s waiting for the premiere of Furiosa next week, but if you don’t know what to do in between, we might just have a very interesting proposal for all of you horror fans out there. The queer psychological horror I Saw the TV Glow was quietly released in theaters last Friday, after having its premiere at Sundance in January and after its limited release on May 3. Distributed by A24, the movie might not become a box office record-breaker, but it seems that the critics love it, and that might motivate people to go see the movie.
The movie is based on an original screenplay by Jane Schoenbrun, who also directed the movie. The non-binary filmmaker is best known for their earlier horror We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, which was also an indie...

Okay, the big Summer blockbusters are coming in “hot”, but there’s no reason for the offbeat “indies” to sit on the sidelines till the Fall. At least that must be the intent of the fine folks at A24, who are still basking in the box office of their biggest hit, Civil War. Ah, but this one is a true “test” for the studio’s fervent fans. It’s a truly “out there” ode to several small screen touchstones for ” 90’s kids”. In fact, you could probably have an interesting game of “checking off” winks and nods to some “cult faves”. Oh, but there’s much more happening in this exploration of suburban teen life as its young hero seems to be energized by the tube’s warmth as he swears that I Saw The TV Glow.

Universal Pictures has just announced (via Deadline) release dates – in some cases, new release dates for movies that are shifting around on their schedule – for five upcoming horror films… and every one of them happens to be a Blumhouse production. The movies in question are The Woman in the Yard, Drop, The Black Phone 2, M3GAN 2.0, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 – and we’re about to go through them one-by-one.
First up is the thriller The Woman in the Yard, which was once set to reach theatres on January 10, 2025, but was bumped out of that date so the Blumhouse reboot of Wolf Man could move from this October to January 17th. Jaume Collet-Serra is directing the film, which stars Danielle Deadwyler of The Devil to Pay and Till, Okwui Okpokwasili of The Exorcist: Believer and I Am Legend, and Russell Hornsby of The Hate U Give and Fences.

The only constant in life is change, folks. The best-laid plans end up having to be adjusted, external factors force even the wisest decision-makers to improvise on the fly, and, all the while, the ruthless film gods laugh at us from their ivory towers in the sky. Is this lede a tad melodramatic for what's nothing more than just another article about movie release dates jumping around? Probably, but we have to make sure you're all paying attention somehow!
Variety reports that Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions woke up today and apparently chose chaos, as the studios took a look at their big-screen horror offerings to come over the next year and change and shook things up significantly. While the new calendar shift affects quite a few titles, the three main ones that fans will undoubtedly want to keep an eye on include "Five Nights at Freddy's 2," "M3GAN 2.0," and "The Black Phone 2.

Freddy Fazbear will return to haunt multiplexes in 2025.
Universal and Blumhouse’s “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” a horror sequel set in the haunted Chuck E. Cheese-esque establishment known as Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, will land in theaters on Dec. 5, 2025.
Universal added several Blumhouse titles to its release calendar, including “The Woman in the Yard” and “Drop”. The studio also shifted the dates for two other buzzy sequels: “M3GAN 2.0” from May 16, 2025, to June 27, 2025; and “The Black Phone 2” from June 27, 2025, to Oct. 17, 2025.
“Five Nights at Freddy’s,” adapted from the popular video game, made a killing at the box office last October with $297 million globally and became Blumhouse’s highest-grossing film of all time — all while streaming simultaneously on Peacock. Josh Hutcherson starred in the original as a nighttime security guard at Freddys Fazbear’s Pizza, where the animatronic mascots are prone to murder. Plot: An awkward teen (Justice Smith) and his friend (Brigette Lundy-Paine) become obsessed with a teen drama called The Pink Opaque. But, years after it gets cancelled, the lines between reality and fiction start to blur as they begin to wonder if perhaps they are part of the show they love.
Review: I Saw the TV Glow seems bound to be a conversation starter for horror fans once A24 puts it out later this year. By design, it’s a movie that’s meant to be dissected, with it defying genre expectations to the point that, for some folks, this will be a genuinely tedious experience. At the same time, others will love director Jane Schoenbrun’s stab at what the Sundance programmers have called “emo-horror.”

This article contains I Saw the TV Glow spoilers.
Jane Schoenbrun’s I Saw the TV Glow is a unique, neon-colored, melancholic analysis. It’s a complex work determined to show you might find yourself through art and the joys of escapism. Instead of depicting this coming-of-age story with promise, as is often cinema’s wont, Schoenbrun presents a haunting, Kaufman-esque diversion, illustrating the consequences of avoiding one’s embracement of oneself and the repression that bottles throughout the years. Most remarkably, Schoenbrun provides a significant, one-of-a-kind trans allegory; a raw psychedelic vision unlike almost anything previously put on the screen. In fact, the closest comparison I can think of is to say it’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things for non-cis folks.
The setup seems at first straightforward. In 1996, 13-year-old Owen (Ian Foreman) imprinted his soul onto a YA Goosebumps-meets-Buffy-styled horror TV series called The Pink Opaque. The series follows two chosen girls,...

It’s been a rough few weeks for indies but May is here with a handful of hopefuls looking to rev up the market — from A24’s buzzy I Saw The TV Glow to Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Venice award-winning Evil Does Not Exist. A documentary about Anita Pallenberg featuring Scarlett Johansson hits theaters, with a French animated sci-fi set on Mars, and a Flannery O’Conner biopic by Ethan Hawke.
I Saw The TV Glow is written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun (We’re All Going To The World’s Fair) and produced by Emma Stone under her Fruit Tree Banner. The horror-thriller that gripped Sundance (Deadline review called it a “trippy gut punch”) then SXSW follows a teenager named Owen trying to make it through life in the suburbs. The weirdness starts when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show, a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own.

Writer/Director Jane Schoenbrun’s feature debut, We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, captured the isolating nature of online culture via creepypasta horror through non-narrative, visual storytelling. Schoenbrun continues that core theme of dysphoria in their sophomore effort, I Saw the TV Glow, now armed with a bigger budget that allows the filmmaker to get even more personal while evolving their voice and visual style to an intoxicating degree. I Saw the TV Glow offers a layered and authentic portrait of identity, wrapped in ’90s nostalgia and surreal imagery that embeds itself deep into your psyche.

Sundance Film Festival is heading to London again this summer and the programme is full of cinematic goodies. More below.
The days are getting lighter, the sun is shining ever so slightly more now and we’ve packed away our thickest wool jumpers, although we still need some thick socks. That must mean one thing and one thing only.
Sundance Film Festival: London is almost upon us.
Some might say summer is coming too, but we’re mostly excited for Sundance London, which has just revealed their full programme for this year’s festival. The festival brings a fine selection of films which originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, in Park City, Utah. The crème de la crème, so to speak.
The festival will open on 6 June with a screening of Kneecap, Rich Peppiatt’s Irish-language film and draw to a close on 9 June with Sean Wang...

The thriller The Woman in the Yard, which is coming our way from Blumhouse Productions, Universal Pictures, and director Jaume Collet-Serra, was once set to reach theatres on January 10, 2025, but it was recently bumped off the Universal release slate entirely to make room for another Blumhouse / Universal collaboration, the Wolf Man reboot directed by Leigh Whannell. Specific details on the series and its focus are currently under wraps, but MindRiot COO Randa Minkarah told Deadline that audiences “will get to see Payton aka “The Glove” — whose legendary athletic grit and tongue was showcased on Netflix’s The Last Dance – talk trash while on horseback with rodeo cowboys, fly fishing with producer John Dietsch (A River Runs Through It), and maybe even go head to head selling cookies with a bad-ass troupe of kids.”

When I was 9 years old, I was obsessed with the Disney Channel monster-of-the-week series, "So Weird." The show centered on a strong-willed teenage girl named Fiona "Fi" Phillips (Cara DeLizia) who used the power of information gathered from online research to help make sense of ghosts, monsters, folk legends, and other supernatural occurrences that seemed to follow her and her rockstar mom while they traveled the country on her comeback tour.
I wasn't yet a teenager and I certainly didn't own a laptop, but I could feel deep in my bones that I was just like Fi Phillips, and often fantasized what it would be like to live her life. Sometimes, the wind would blow a little too strong as I walked home from school or I'd hear a disembodied voice that was probably the result of my own imagination, and the line between my favorite TV show and my own life would blur.

Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell are bringing us another reboot of a classic Universal Pictures property with Wolf Man, which had the perfect release date: October 25th, delivering werewolf action to the big screen just in time for Halloween. But Wolf Man only just started filming earlier this month, and the filmmakers clearly feel that they need more than seven months to get it ready for theatres. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Wolf Man‘s release has been delayed, pushed back to January 17, 2025. The studio already had another Blumhouse project scheduled for a January 10th release, the Jaume Collet-Serra / Danielle Deadwyler thriller The Woman in the Yard… but with Wolf Man moving to January, The Woman in the Yard has been bumped off the schedule entirely. We’ll have to wait and see when Universal will decide to release that one.

Universal Pictures is shifting its wide release of Blumhouse’s “Wolf Man” from Oct. 25, 2024 to Jan. 17, 2025.
“Wolf Man” is billed as a blood-chilling reimagining of the classic Universal monster pic. The film is directed by Leigh Whannell, who wrote the script with Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (“Dumb Money”). Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott stars as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.
The film will reunite Abbott with co-star Julia Garner, with whom she starred in 2011’s “Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene,” her first professional acting role.
Whannell’s previous films with Blumhouse include “Invisible Man,” “Upgrade” and “Insidious: Chapter 3.” “Wolf Man” is produced by Blumhouse founder and CEO Jason Blum and is executive produced by Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell. It is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

Not a trick, definitely not a treat: Universal Pictures has pulled Blumhouse’s “Wolf Man” from its primo Halloween 2024 release, and has re-dated the wide release for January 17, 2025.
With “Wolf Man” now in mid-January 2025, Universal took Blumhouse’s “The Woman in the Yard” — originally slated for January 10, 2025 — off its schedule. That one, starring Danielle Deadwyler, “is now unset and will be re-dated for a later date,” Universal said on Friday. In other words, it definitely won’t be replacing “Wolf Man” this coming Halloween season.
Jason Blum can’t buy a date lately around his favorite holiday. This past Halloween, it was Taylor Swift who ruined his (and others’) best-laid plans. When Swift announced her concert film, “The Eras Tour,” would release in theaters on October 13, 2023, Blum (wisely) chose to move “The Exorcist: Believer” off of its very suitable original date of Friday the 13th. In October. Eighteen days ahead of Halloween.

Leigh Whannell’s reimaging of Universal classic The Wolf Man from Blumhouse is dashing from its Oct. 25 release date this year to January 17, 2025.
As previously reported Julia Garner, Christopher Abbott and Sam Jaeger star in the movie which is currently being shot in New Zealand.
Meanwhile, Blumhouse’s The Woman in the Yard from filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Danielle Deadwyler, is now unset from its Jan. 10, 2025 release date. Uni will re-date that genre title at some point down the road. That pic has a plot that’s under wraps. Sam Stefanak wrote it. The pic reteams Deadwyler and Collet-Serra who recently shot the action thriller, Carry On.
Wolf Man revolves around a family who is being terrorized by a lethal predator. Whannell wrote the pic with Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, the latter two who recently penned Sony’s Dumb Money.

Universal Pictures is adjusting its plans for two upcoming horror titles from Blumhouse.
The studio announced Friday that Wolf Man, the werewolf thriller from filmmaker Leigh Whannell (Invisible Man), has delayed its release by three months and will now open wide in theaters Jan. 17, 2025. Wolf Man, which stars Christopher Abbott (Poor Things) as a man whose family is stalked by a dangerous predator, was written and directed by Whannell. It had previously been scheduled for a pre-Halloween release on Oct. 25, 2024.
Blumhouse and Motel Movies are behind Wolf Man, which also stars Julia Garner and previously had Ryan Gosling attached as the lead. Jason Blum produces the movie that reinvents the classic Universal monster and counts Whannell, Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira and Mel Turner as executive producers.
Additionally, Universal announced that Blumhouse’s The Woman in the Yard, which was previously set for theatrical release Jan. 10, 2025, has been removed from the calendar.

Exclusive: Jonathan Keasey, the scribe behind Danielle Deadwyler’s Parallel and Demi Lovato’s Tow, has signed on to adapt The Barracks Thief, a novella from award-winning author Tobias Wolff.
Keasey joins playwright Tyler Rivenbark on the project. The pair will collaborate on the screenplay based on Wolff’s novella.
Wolff, an Emeritus professor at Stanford, is best known as a memoirist. Most notably, his 1989 book This Boy’s Life: A Memoir was adapted for the screen by Michael Caton-Jones, with Leonardo DiCaprio starring as the teenage Wolff in his breakout big-screen performance and Robert De Niro as his abusive step-father Dwight.
The Barracks Thief is the story of three young paratroopers waiting to be shipped out to Vietnam. Brought together one sweltering afternoon to stand guard over an ammunition dump threatened by a forest fire, they discover in each other an unexpected capacity for recklessness and violence. Far from being alarmed by this discovery,...

After debuting at Sundance to rave reviews, Jane Schoenbrun’s second feature, I Saw the TV Glow, made a stop at SXSW before its theatrical release in a few months. Giving the esoteric filmmaker more freedom thanks to its larger budget, this dark fantasy is effective in many ways but unexpectedly leaves something to be desired.
I Saw the TV Glow follows two teenagers who share a bond over their favorite TV show, only for their lives to be thrown into disarray when it is canceled. A24 is marketing this as the latest in its cerebral/“elevated” subgenre of horror, and while there are certainly elements of this there, it’s more accurately described as a surreal, often unnerving fantasy film.
The movie is inarguably most effective as a work of atmosphere and image-making. Schoenbrun succeeds in creating an undeniably alluring atmosphere, much as they did in We’re All Going to the World’s Fair,...

I wasn’t in the overwhelming camp of critics enamored by Jane Schoenbrun’s We’re All Going to the World’s Fair. I don’t say that to brag or even scold, but to set proper expectations as you read this review of I Saw the TV Glow. Schoenbrun’s style of borderline mournful listlessness has the structure of a neon daydream, which is fluttery and ethereal in ways that align with arthouse styles that are not meant to please all audiences. I Saw the TV Glow cements Schoenbrun’s cerebral and sobering lullaby style as a recurring signature, which I appreciate more this time. Schoenbrun understands and conveys the anxieties of existence so bluntly, albeit tuned to its own unique static-hazy frequency.

In the ever-evolving landscape of horror cinema, a new contender steps into the neon spotlight, promising a unique blend of teenage angst and supernatural thrills. I Saw the TV Glow just dropped its first trailer, and it’s already setting the stage for what could be the most intriguingly eerie movie experience of 2024.
At the heart of this chilling adventure are Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine, playing two small-town teenagers bound by an uncommon obsession: a mysteriously canceled TV show. With a premise that feels like a nostalgic nod to the late-night TV binges of yore, I Saw the TV Glow seems poised to redefine the boundaries between the supernatural and the everyday with a distinctly electric purple hue of TV static as its backdrop.
The creative mind behind this intriguing venture is none other than Jane Schoenbrun, previously known for their webcam horror exploration in We’re All Going to the World’s Fair.

Greenhouse has its two leads in place as Adam McKay looks to tackle global warming in his follow-up to 2021’s Don’t Look Up.
Adam McKay’s last film was the star-studded Netflix comedy drama Don’t Look Up. The film was widely viewed on the streaming platform and lots of folks enjoyed its satirical take on the way the human race might reasonably be expected to respond if an Extinction Level Event chanced to head in our general direction.
For one reason or another, however, Adam McKay’s plans for a further collaboration with Netflix were dropped. The Vice filmmaker had announced the serial killer comedy drama Average Height, Average Build as his next project. The cast had been named too, with Robert Pattinson, Amy Adams, Robert Downey Jr, Forest Whitaker and Danielle Deadwyler set to form the kind of starry ensemble that McKay was able to bring together for Don’t Look Up.

Having received plenty of acclaim for indie horror pic We're All Going To The World's Fair, writer/director Jane Schoenbrun is back with her next film gig, this time for A24. Drawing on nostalgia, loneliness and LGBTQ issues, I Saw The TV Glow stars Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine. Check out the first, trippy trailer below:
The film, which is drawing comparisons to Gregg Araki's work, tells the story of Owen (played by Ian Foreman when he's younger and primarily by Smith) is just trying to survive life in the suburbs. He's having parental problems, but his life changes when he bonds with schoolmate Maddy (Lundy-Paine).
Maddy shares his fascination with mysterious late-night, Buffy-style YA horror drama called The Pink Opaque — a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own. As he dives deeper into the show, Owen’s view of reality begins to crack.

After this trailer, you'll likely never look at childhood nostalgia the same way ever again. A24 has all but cornered the market these days on distributing original horror movies that feel of a piece with one another, leading an entire generation of moviegoers to think of the studio in the same terms as Marvel movies -- as a brand in and of itself, remarkably enough. Marketing prowess aside, however, many filmmakers have managed to take full advantage of this creative partnership and get eyeballs on fascinating movies that otherwise might've slid underneath most audiences' radars. Next up is one of the year's most daring and creative productions yet: "I Saw the TV Glow."

A24 and We’re All Going to the World’s Fair director Jane Schoenbrun have teamed up for a new horror movie called I Saw the TV Glow, which JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray had the chance to see at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (you can read his 5/10 review at This Link). Yesterday, A24 took to social media to unveil a poster for the film, and to promise that a trailer would be online today. True to their word, they have already dropped the trailer online, and you can check it out in the embed above! I Saw the TV Glow is scheduled to reach theatres on May 3rd.
Written and directed by Schoenbrun, I Saw the TV Glow tells the story of two teenage outcasts who bond over their shared love of a scary television show. However, the boundary between TV and reality begins to blur after it is mysteriously canceled.

Fresh off the haunting and singularly creepy indie We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, Jane Schoenbrun is back with A24‘s I Saw the TV Glow, releasing only in theaters May 3.
Headed to the SXSW Film Festival next month, I Saw the TV Glow first earned rave reviews out of Sundance, and several of them are featured in the film’s must-see official trailer.
In a world where too many people seem to be following trends and doing what everyone else is doing, Jane Schoenbrun is undoubtedly a true original. That was clear from We’re All Going to the World’s Fair. And it’s crystal clear watching the trailer for I Saw the TV Glow.
Watch the eerily seductive trailer for I Saw the TV Glow down below, which hails A24’s latest as “a one-of-a-kind masterpiece” and “one of the most original films of this decade.”

"Will draw you in..." A24 has revealed the first official trailer for I Saw the TV Glow, the acclaimed new feature made by filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun, following their feature debut We're All Going to the World's Fair a few years ago. This film just premiered at both the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and Berlinale these past months, receiving rave reviews from the fest circuit. In this eerie, captivating new film, Justice Smith stars as Owen. He is just trying to make it through teenage life in the suburbs when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show – a vision of a supernatural world within their own. When the show is strangely canceled, time and reality begin to blur. It is another intriguing cinematic tale of identity and being entranced by the allure of the screen. The film co-stars Brigette Lundy-Paine, with Ian Foreman, Helena Howard, Lindsey Jordan, Danielle Deadwyler,...

What happens when the line between reality and TV becomes a little too blurred?
For two outcast teens played by Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine in “I Saw the TV Glow,” a cult favorite horror series comes to life with haunting consequences. Writer/director Jane Schoenbrun’s A24 feature was one of IndieWire’s must-see films at Sundance 2024 and landed a coveted “A” rating from IndieWire critic David Ehrlich.
The film, which homages everything from the eerie vibes of David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks: The Return” to late-night Nickelodeon ’90s television, follows teens who “bond over their shared love of a scary television show, but the boundary between TV and reality begins to blur after it is mysteriously canceled,” per the official synopsis.
Helena Howard, Lindsey Jordan, Phoebe Bridgers, Fred Durst, Danielle Deadwyler, and Sloppy Jane round out the cast.
