An Artificial Intelligence music maker capable of quickly creating songs with AI-generated music and vocals just raised $125 million, the latest sign of the fast-developing AI arms race in the music business.
Suno is like a ChatGPT for music; users input phrases and keywords for a song they’d like to make, and Suno spits back out an artificially generated track. The program can generate both music and vocals, a feature only a few other AI generators like Google and fellow startup Udio had developed.

So this is what economizing looks like in Cannes.
The rosé still flowed, though not as freely, and it was easier to get a reservation at the Michelin-starred restaurants that are usually booked months in advance of the film festival. There were still rooms to be had at the Hôtel du Cap, the posh resort where studio chiefs and movie stars typically stay. Most troubling, the deals — both for completed films that premiered in Cannes and the packages that hit the Côte d’Azur searching for financing — are taking much longer to close.
Even in the shimmering south of France there’s no escaping that the movie business, having endured Covid shutdowns and two devastating labor strikes, has lost much of its luster. Donna Langley, the chairman of NBCUniversal Studio Group, was blunt during a talk, noting that the domestic box office is down 20% and the global box office has...

On the second night of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Judith Godrèche told the mostly female crowd assembled on a beach next to the Palais, “This film is for you!” The French actor-director was presenting her short “Moi Aussi,” a last-minute addition to the festival lineup that covers sexual misconduct in the French film industry. Godrèche has become something of an ambassador to the fledgling movement after she came forward in February with claims that she was preyed upon and groomed as a minor by directors Benoît Jacquot and Jacques Doillon, allegations they both deny. The beach screening kicked off what many hope will be a sweeping French #MeToo reckoning.
But the festival and its accompanying film market also will feature several men who have been the subject of #MeToo allegations that range from sexual harassment, sexual assault and domestic violence. The awkward presence of such actors as Shia Labeouf and James Franco,...

Can I interest you in a horror movie about Jesus? How about a horror movie about Jesus ... starring Nicolas Cage? The new movie "The Carpenter's Son" will be just that — a horror pic inspired by the unknown childhood years of Jesus H. Christ himself. For those of you not very schooled in a little book called The Bible, just know that after Jesus' birth is recounted, almost nothing is known about his childhood. The traditional story traditionally jump-cuts to his adult years when he's starting out his ministry. However, there are unofficial, uncanonical texts that recount Jesus' youth, including the apocryphal gospel the Infancy Gospel of Thomas. This apocryphal gospel will be the basis for "The Carpenter's Son," which hails from director Lotfy Nathan.

The Nicolas Cage resurgence as of late has interestingly mostly found him in more abstract kinds of films as opposed to his more commercially appealing blockbusters of yesteryear. While many have pined for a National Treasure 3, Cage has been partaking in indie films like Pig, Mandy and Dream Scenario. However, he would also mix in a couple mass audience projects like The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Renfield. Deadline has now reported that Cage is set to star in The Carpenter’s Son, a horror tale that’s based on the rarely-told childhood of Jesus Christ.
The official synopsis for The Carpenter’s Son reads,
“The Carpenter’s Son tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt. The son, known only as ‘the Boy’, is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension.

The vengeful spirit Eric Draven first appeared in James O'Barr's indie comic "The Crow" in 1989. He became a Goth household name in 1994 thanks to the popularity of Alex Proyas' ultra-stylized, uber-Noir film adaptation starring Brandon Lee, who was infamously killed on the set of "The Crow" thanks to a misfiring prop gun. The teens of 1994 venerated the film, and "The Crow" was deeply beloved by many. The film warranted several sequels, including "The Crow: City of Angels" in 1994, "The Crow: Salvation" in 2000, and "The Crow: Wicked Prayer" in 2005. O'Barr's characters were also featured in the 1998 TV series "The Crow: Stairway to Heaven."
Although O'Barr's Goth sensibilities were a product of their time, filmmakers and producers have been trying to get a "Crow" remake off the ground for a long while, and the project has changed hands almost a dozen times in the last 20 years. After a lot of juggling,...

Directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Bill Skarsgård, the reboot of the 1994 film, The Crow has become one of the hot topics of discussion. Based on James O’Barr’s comic book series of the same name, the film is the remake of the 1994 film, which featured Brandon Lee in the lead role. While the film was a box office hit and has since gained a cult following, the actor tragically lost his life during production due to a fatal incident involving a prop gun.

Criticism has been directed at the remake by original cast members and director Alex Proyas, who argue that it risks tarnishing Lee’s legacy. However, filmmaker Rupert Sanders has defended the project, asserting that it aims to pay tribute to Lee and expressing hope that the revival would do justice to his memory.

The remake of the 1994 movie, The Crow starring Bill Skarsgård is garnering major attention. While there’s still time for the movie to arrive on the big screen, original film director, Alex Proyas has recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming reboot which is far from positive.

The dance duo Two Shell have been teasing their latest single “Talk to Me” for more than two weeks. On Bandcamp, they’ve been rolling out cryptic renditions of the record, each paired and branded with a different artist. There’s a Frank Ocean version, with the singer’s face emerging from glitchy artwork. There’s a Taylor Swift version, which has a distorted image of her bursting out of a gold treasure chest in outer space. The Chris Martin, PinkPantheress, and JungKook versions are similarly chaotic.

Alex Proyas, who directed the original version of The Crow in 1994 is not a fan of the idea remaking the film, the new version of which will be released on June 7.
Proyas’ reservations, he says, stem not from some sense of proprietorship, but from fidelity to the original film’s star, Brandon Lee, who died when a gun malfunctioned during production.
“I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work,” wrote Proyas in a post online. “And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes. [‘The Crow’] is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy.

‘The Crow’ – Original Director Alex Proyas Elaborates Further on His Distate for the Upcoming Remake
The director of original classic The Crow, Alex Proyas (Dark City) has made no secret of the fact that he’s not a fan of what he’s seen from the remake so far. Proyas has made it clear over the years that he’s never been in favor of the original movie being remade – he wrote a heartfelt post on Facebook back in 2017 explaining why he feels a remake is disrespectful to the late Brandon Lee’s memory and legacy – and he’s very much sticking to that opinion.
Taking to Facebook this morning, Proyas elaborated a bit further on some of his recent posts slamming the new take on The Crow, calling back to his aforementioned comments from 2017.

The Crow, the forthcoming movie directed by Rupert Sanders, has been the talk of the town since its announcement in 2022. The action-thriller is a reimagining of the same-titled 1994 Alex Proyas film, featuring Brandon Lee in the lead role. With its top-notch cast and storytelling, the $94 million movie was a huge box-office success and struck a chord with the audience. Now the official trailer for Bill Skarsgård’s upcoming flick has further piqued the viewer’s interest.
However, some of the most disturbing information regarding the movie—which will hit theaters on June 7—has just recently come to light. In just one day, the trailer garnered a whopping 53,000 dislikes on YouTube, in contrast to just 42,000 likes. These figures put a serious damper on the movie’s potential to do well at the box office.

After more than 15 years of development hell, the reimagining of “The Crow” will finally hit theaters this summer.
“The Crow” is based on the indie comic book series of the same name by James O’Barr that was originally published back in 1989 by Caliber Press. 30 years ago in 1994, a film adaptation of the comic book by visionary director Alex Proyas was released into theaters, perhaps better known as the movie where star Brandon Lee was accidentally shot and killed on set during the middle of production.
Miramax stepped in and spent $8 million to pick up where production left off and finish the film. “The Crow” went on to gross $93.7 million at the box office against its $23 million budget, and the film eventually became a cult classic. Three lackluster sequels and a television adaptation would follow, however the property had always been earmarked for what current distributor Lionsgate is calling a reimagining.

When it comes to the supernatural and horror genre, Bill Skarsgård’s choices seem to indicate that he has an affinity to play grim roles. While the Swedish star will be seen in The Crow reboot this summer in which he reprises the iconic role of Brandon Lee, Skarsgård terrified audiences in the 2017 film It where he played a creepy clown named Pennywise.

FKA Twigs is speaking up about the long-lasting effects of abuse. The singer-songwriter said this week that “being abused changes the whole of your nervous system” when speaking about her allegations against former partner Shia Labeouf.
Twigs, born Tahliah Barnett, accused Labeouf of sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress in 2021. After several delays, the case is set to go to court in October.
“I’ve had to be very compassionate with myself and really listen to myself to get better,” Barnett told British Vogue this week. “Now I want to challenge myself to know more about the simple, most pure and important things: love, nature, food, a nontoxic lifestyle, my body.”
Barnett also spoke up about how her experience has continued to shape her life in real time. “I think naively I thought it would be like any other breakup, that I’d be sad for six months to a year,...
