Actor Jason George was a few years into his career when he secured his first starring role in a movie. It was the early 2000s, and he’d been cast as a co-lead in a mountain climbing flick called The Climb. He was excited for the prospect of a break until he walked into a trailer one day and saw a white man “wearing my wardrobe, my helmet, my climbing harness, and they’re putting makeup on him to make him look like me.”
George, who is Black, was stunned.

After making more than $1.4 billion at the box office, producer Will Packer has gotten into the streaming game with “Praise This.”
The Peacock original marks Packer’s first time producing a movie that wasn’t destined for cinemas. While the new distribution plan might seem like a reaction to the hit or miss theatrical business — or the kind of pivot that would happen after a box office bomb, which Packer has yet to suffer, by the way — that’s not what’s behind the change in strategy.
“Malleable” is a word Packer has found himself using quite often in reference to the current state of moviemaking.
“I’ve had a lot of success with movies that were moderately-budgeted breakout theatrical hits,” he tells Variety over tea at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City. “But there are some of my movies that were successful theatrically five to 10 years ago that...

Chlöe's mentor and confidant Beyoncé once said, "You know you that b*tch when you cause all this conversation." These days, Chlöe is used to being a trending topic on social media. Not that the 24-year-old singer, songwriter, and actor pays attention to it, seeing as she occasionally removes apps like Twitter and Instagram from her phone when the negative comments get overwhelming.
"It's been hard, difficult, [and] unsettling," Chlöe tells Popsugar of dealing with constant judgment from some of her biggest critics online. "I could go down the whole negative path but I have to learn to not really care and to know that as long as I am being authentically and unapologetically myself, then I'm good."

Chloe Bailey has made a name for herself in the music industry as one half of the musical sibling duo Chloe x Halle and her recent solo album "In Pieces." Now in her latest film "Praise This," the "Grow-ish" star's music is merging with her burgeoning acting career, as she plays an up-and-coming singer named Sam who dreams of one day getting her big break. However, her plan goes off track when her father forces her to move from Los Angeles to Atlanta to live with her cousin Jess (Anjelika Washington). But after joining Jess's praise team, Sam realizes the group could be her ticket to stardom if she helps them win a national championship competition.

In the pleasantly amusing “Praise This,” Chloe Bailey is the self professed nonreligious Sam, a musical artist in the making who finds her niche in Atlanta’s competitive gospel youth choir scene. Director Tina Gordon crafts a musical that’s carried through by a charming cast and highly entertaining ensemble performances. Streaming April 7 on Peacock, “Praise This” adds a mostly delightful entry to the genre, even if it doesn’t offer a unique take. More successfully it acts as a winning introductory calling card to the acting and musical talents of its rising star, the slightly-older sister of upcoming “The Little Mermaid” actor Halle Bailey and one-half of the sibling R&b duo Chloe x Halle.
The story starts with Sam forced to leave Los Angeles by her dad because of some rebellious behavior. He entrusts her care to her aunt and uncle (Kendrick Cross and Janora McDuffie), but the...

Five-time Grammy nominee Chloe Bailey, star of Grown-ish and half of the sibling musical duo Chloe x Halle, stars in a new cinematic musical event set in the world of Atlanta’s competitive gospel youth choir praise teams.
From director Tina Gordon, writer-director of Little and the writer of What Men Want and Drumline, Praise This follows aspiring musical superstar Sam (Chloe Bailey), a young woman driven, at almost any cost, to break into the music business. So, when her father, worried that Sam is associating with a dangerous crowd, moves them from Los Angeles to Atlanta to live with Sam’s sunny cousin, Jess, Sam is . . . not happy.

Art imitates life for Chloe Bailey, who stars in the upcoming movie "Praise This" as an ambitious young singer named Sam whose music career seems to be taking off in a huge way. There are some big differences about her life and Sam's, though - Bailey is already a massive star, and also, "Praise This" follows Sam's journey into the world of competitive gospel youth choirs.
The trailer, released on March 6, finds Sam unhappily stuck in Atlanta after being sent away from Los Angeles for the summer by her concerned father to live with her upbeat cousin Jess (Anjelika Washington). Things start to take off when Jess persuades Sam to join her faltering praise team, and Sam eventually dives in, determined to help the group win a national championship competition while launching her music career.

This week’s DC’s Stargirl — its fifth-to-least episode ever! — could not go without proper mention, given the major developments and multiple fights that took place, plus one wonderfully random DC cameo.
After asking her fellow Jsa members for their blessing, Courtney (played by Bec Bassinger) went to tell Cameron (Hunter Sansone) not only that she is Stargirl (and Rick is Hourman, etc;), but also share the truth behind his father Jordan’s death.

At one time, superhero shows like DC's Stargirl were essentially guaranteed to be renewed year after year. That's all changed now that Nexstar Media Group is purchasing a controlling interest in the network. Nexstar reportedly plans to focus on traditional network shows that have a more broad appeal, and that doesn't sound like DC's Stargirl. Will the show be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.

Superheroes face death every day. Courtney Whitmore knew that even before she became the superhero Stargirl, as she inherited the rod that gives her powers from her predecessor Starman, who died fighting the Injustice Society of America. Nonetheless, Stargirl entered the fight and inspired others to do the same, leading to the construction of a new Justice Society of America. But this December, Warner Brothers will succeed where the Shade and Eclipso failed, finally bringing an end to Stargirl.

The CW is losing another show. “Stargirl,” the channel’s teen superhero drama, will conclude with its ongoing third season, IndieWire has confirmed.
The show, which airs on Wednesdays, premiered its third season in August. The final episode will now premiere on December 7.
The news comes shortly after The CW was acquired by station group Nexstar, in a deal that has been accompanied by several cancellations and endings for many of the network’s series. In May, ahead of the official deal, the channel canceled over half of its scripted programming lineup. Nexstar officially took control in October, with plans to retool the famously unprofitable channel to focus on acquired programming and cheaper original series. The change was accompanied by CEO Mark Pedowitz stepping down from his post after more than a decade at the channel.

“Stargirl” will come to an end at The CW with Season 3, Variety has confirmed.
The DC series is currently airing its third season, with the finale set to air on Dec. 7. This is the latest CW scripted series to announce it will come to an end following Nexstar’s completion of its acquisition of The CW in October. It was most recently announced that “Nancy Drew” would end with its fourth season, with both “The Flash” and “Riverdale” also coming to an end. The CW also canceled many of its scripted originals back in May.

Kobe Bryant is best known for his 20-year career playing basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers, but the Oscar winner always kept a foot in the entertainment industry as well. As it turns out, he came close to racking up one more screen credit before his tragic death in February 2020.
In a new episode of their “Dare We Say” podcast (via Entertainment Weekly), actresses Josie Totah and Alycia Pascual-Peña, who starred on Peacock’s short-lived reboot of “Saved by the Bell” revealed that the basketball legend almost appeared on the show. Bryant had been a fan of the original series and was scheduled to film a cameo on the reboot just days before the helicopter crash that killed him and his daughter.
“A wild tidbit that I don’t think a lot of people know, or, it’s not important at all because obviously, we are the least of importance...

Days before his tragic death, Kobe Bryant was set to cameo in Peacock’s Saved By the Bell reboot, its stars have revealed.
The former American basketball star died in a helicopter crash in January 2020, along with his daughter Giana and seven others.
However, according to Josie Totah and Alycia Pascual-Peña, who played Bayside High students Lexi and Aisha on the shortlived two-season spinoff of the 1984 sitcom of the same name, Bryant was scheduled to make an appearance in the pilot episode.
Speaking on Thursday’s (15 September) episode of their Dare We Say podcast, the two revealed the “wild tidbit” (via Entertainment Weekly).
“I don’t think a lot of people know,” Totah said. “But we were actually supposed to film with Kobe two days after he died.”
She called Bryant’s addition “so surreal”, with Pascual-Peña recalling that the energy on set “shifted greatly” when it came time to...

Stargirl is finally back and based on the CW being sold to a new company, this might be the last season of this wonderful series. We have some changes this year as the always funny Joel McHale is now a regular cast member and mentor to Courtney and after last season’s joining of forces to stop Eclipso, a majority of Stargirl’s enemies have stuck around in Blue Valley in an attempt to reform for their past actions.

"Well, Italy, I have this weird feeling you might completely change my life." Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for Love & Gelato, another cheesy, cute, amusing romantic comedy from Netflix as part of their "let's make as many mediocre films as we can" strategy. The film is about the adventures & misadventures of Lina, a young American in search of herself, her roots in a glittering Rome, and of course a lot of gelato. Based on the book by Jenna Evans Welch. In the book, she doesn't really want to be there. "But then Lina is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina's uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires Lina, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother's footsteps..." Starring Susanna Skaggs, Saul Nanni, Valentina Lodovini, Anjelika Washington, and Tobia De Angelis.

Tall Girl is getting a sequel at Netflix, and it premieres very soon.
Netflix on Wednesday morning dropped a trailer and key art for Tall Girl 2.
The highly-anticipated movie is set to premiere on February 11 on the streaming service.
The storyline for the sequel reads as follows:
After her inspiring speech at the homecoming dance, Jodi (Ava Michelle) is no longer just the "tall girl" - she's popular, confident, has a boyfriend, and just booked the lead role in this year's school musical.

As the world she built starts to crumble around her, Jodi realizes that standing tall was only just the beginning.

As Eclipso’s very grand, very evil plan gets underway, he boasts about having already targeted people close to one Jsa member, as revealed in this exclusive sneak peek at DC’s Stargirl‘s Season 2 finale.
In “Summer School: Chapter Thirteen” (airing tonight at 8/7c on The CW), that episode number is feeling most lucky for Beth Chapel (played by Anjelika Washington), who when last we tuned in had gone to the American Dream offices with Chuck to make use of the Isa mainframe, only to run into Eclipso’s pint-sized incarnation, “Bruce” (Milo Stein).

What Happened This Week
We are at the halfway point of season two of Stargirl, but this episode felt more like a season finale than just a regular episode! Stargirl has been lacking in the action department all season, but this episode delivered an action scene that took up half the episode and truly delivered some compelling combat between our heroes and villains.
Mike’s Journey
Mike is at a crossroads with the Justice Society as his father doesn’t believe he can handle being a superhero (and he doesn’t have any super powers) but he is intelligent and with Zeke’s help, could become the inventor on the team. Pat is being a father first though and won’t let Mike work on anything dangerous, hence the reason he...
