Republicans in North Carolina have selected Mark Robinson as their nominee in the swing state’s 2024 gubernatorial race. Robinson — the state’s first Black lieutenant governor, who will now face Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein in the general election — has a richer history of bigoted commentary than any major-party political candidate in recent memory. He has leveled truly vile attacks against Muslims, Jews, women, and the LGBTQ community, while pushing a torrent of conspiracy theories about everything from Covid-19 to the 2020 election. He also loves Donald Trump.

On Tuesday night, North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (R), a controversial figure known for his inflammatory remarks and staunch opposition to abortion rights, emerged victorious in the state’s Republican nomination for governor.
Robinson, the first black lieutenant governor in North Carolina’s history, is set to face off against North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein (D), in what promises to be a closely contested race in November. Both candidates are vying to succeed the current Democratic governor, Roy Cooper.
Robinson’s political career gained traction after an impassioned speech on gun laws he delivered to his local council in 2018 went viral, in which he presented himself as a representative of average Americans who feel targeted and endangered by attempts to restrict firearm access. Robinson’s speech propelled him into the spotlight and he subsequently became a conservative commentator, secured a position on the National Rifle Association board, and...

After eight years of Democratic leadership, North Carolina’s next governor could be a guy with a long history of shitposting on Facebook.
Mark Robinson, the winner of the state’s Republican primary for governor on Tuesday, has served as North Carolina’s lieutenant governor since 2021. He shot into the national spotlight in part by devoting himself to Donald Trump and making a slew of incendiary, deeply bigoted comments. Trump has endorsed Robinson for the state’s top job, and even called him “Martin Luther King on steroids” at a recent campaign event.

Bay Area Lyme Foundation, a leading sponsor of Lyme disease research in the United States, brought together scientists, philanthropists, celebrities and patients for the sixth annual LymeAid, an event aimed at raising funds to make Lyme disease easy to diagnose and simple to cure.
This year’s benefit dinner and concert raised more than $1 million, of which 100 percent will go directly to fund research and education projects for Lyme disease.
“Support for Lyme disease research continues to grow, perhaps because of the increasing numbers of people who are severely impacted,” remarked Linda Giampa, executive director, Bay Area Lyme Foundation. “We are honored to have renowned scientists and up-and-coming researchers lending their expertise to our efforts, and taking the time to educate and engage philanthropists and high-profile personalities through our annual LymeAid event.”
