Ben Stiller is assuring “Severance” fans that Season 2 is still on its way, more than two years since the Apple TV+ series rolled out its acclaimed first season.
Stiller responded to show super-fan Sza on Twitter, after the singer-songwriter called out the series director and executive producer.
“Was trying to be polite but I really need a new season of ‘Severance’ right the fuck now,” Grammy winner Sza tweeted (via Complex).
Stiller replied, “Ok ok got it,” to which Sza clarified, “Omg please accept my humble apology lmao whenever ur ready is fine. Just dying of thirst it’s the best show ever! Ur a madman. Thank U mr stiller king sir!”
In later tweets, Sza even apologized and quote tweeted a fan who said she should understand how it feels now whenever someone asks her when she’s going to drop her next album.

A few team members have responded so far on the news.

Sharing a message in the comment section was costar Brittney Jefferson, who played Aleesia. “Love you! Thank you for seeing me and giving me a chance,” Jefferson wrote. “To the best show runner ever …. It was a honor Queen.”

Max has opted not to proceed with a third season of Issa Rae’s comedy series Rap Sh!t. The decision comes a month after the show’s Season 2 finale dropped on the streamer.
The second season of Rap Sh!t, originally scheduled for an August 10 debut, was pushed to November because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes with the hope of giving it a better shot by having the creative team and cast promote it.
Max, along with other streamers, has been trimming its lineup of originals. Rap Sh!t‘s cancellation leaves five returning comedy series on the platform: Hacks, And Just Like That…, The Sex Lives of College Girls, Peacemaker and the recently renewed Bookie.

The Season 2 finale of Max’s “Rap Sh!t” sees up-and-coming rap group Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion) cementing their management with Francois Boom (Jaboukie Young-White) as they attempt to “fast track” their success in the hip-hop world, according to showrunner Syreeta Singleton, leaving their longtime alliance with Chastity (Jonica Booth) in the dust.

Rap group Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion) are headed on tour in the sophomore installment of Issa Rae’s “Rap Sh!t,” but tensions mount as the duo struggles to get on the same page, with Rae noting “they don’t trust each other.”
“Trust is literally the biggest thing — trusting each other, but also trusting each other’s intentions for the group and for where they’re headed,” showrunner Syreeta Singleton told TheWrap. “Where you find them, even in Season 2, I don’t know that they’re completely aligned. They’re both still very much figuring out what they want for themselves and are both, at many moments, coming at it from a selfish place.”
After landing their first show together at the end of the Max comedy’s freshman season, Shawna immediately compromised their reputation — and Mia’s trust — with an unpredictable performance going back to her masked video days.

As befits its two rising rap artists who are constantly rethinking and remaking themselves in pursuit of success, “Rap Sh!t” Season 2 has a whole new look. The Max series created by Issa Rae and staring Aida Osman and KaMillion as Shawna and Mia spent its first season being as inventive as its characters, emphasizing the reels, FaceTimes, and social media chaos that they leverage to secure interest (if not paydays) from the music industry establishment. Season 2 doesn’t expand so much as explode the visual scope of the series, focusing on Shawna and Mia’s offline lives.
“We’re peeling back the layers, and we’re going deeper and we’re kind of living with these characters in real time a little more,” showrunner Syreeta Singleton told IndieWire. “So I feel like there was a lot of flexibility and freedom to kind of create a new look.”

Despite being a week away from its original scheduled programming (August 10), Max has delayed the second season of Rap Sh!t to November 9 amid the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Season 2 is slated to debut with two episodes, followed by weekly premieres up to its December 21 finale. As labor unions are looking to protest a new deal on behalf of writers, actors are no longer allowed to promote projects from studios, although writers have limited press opportunities. Many speculate the November release date shows promise that a deal will be struck by then and talent will be able to promote the series’ second season. FX also announced that A Murder at the End of the World starring Emma Corrin would no longer debut on August 29 and will instead air sometime in November. One week before the originally scheduled Aug. 10 return of “Rap Sh!t,” Max has delayed the comedy series’ second season to Nov. 9. Season 2 will debut with two episodes followed by weekly drops until the Dec. 21 finale.
The move comes as a result of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. As the labor unions representing writers and actors continue to protest for a new deal with the major studios, actors are completely barred from promoting projects from struck companies, while writers carry out limited press opportunities. The new November premiere date of “Rap Sh!t” signals a hope on the studio’s part, in this case Warner Bros. Max is pushing back the second season of its comedy Rap Sh!t by three months in the latest strike-related scheduling move.
The series, which stars Aida Osman and KaMillion as estranged high school friends who form a rap duo, had been slated to premiere on Aug. 10. Max has moved the date back to Nov. 9.
The change serves two purposes for the Warner Bros. Discovery streamer: It will give Max new programming in the fall, which could become increasingly sparse if strikes by Hollywood writers and actors continue into the autumn. And should the unions and the media companies they’re striking against work out deals before then, the show’s stars and producers would be able to promote the new season.

The process behind “Seduce & Scheme” was heavy on the scheming.
“We snuck in the writers room and the studio when they were having the sessions for the soundtrack. We wasn’t even supposed to be in there!” says KaMillion, who plays Mia in the Issa Rae-created comedy series “Rap Sh!t” on HBO Max. The series follows Mia and Shawna (Aida Osman), friends from high school who reunite years down the line and form a rap duo that quickly skyrockets to notoriety — at least on the internet. To create the original songs that Shawna and Mia perform, as well as the soundtrack that pays major homage to the show’s Miami setting, Rae’s music company Raedio held “camps” where different rappers and songwriters came together to collaborate.
This process was headed by Sarah Bromberg and Philippe Pierre, the Raedio vice presidents who served as music supervisors on “Rap Sh!

“Rap Sh!t” Episode 6 does not mess around — narratively speaking.
The latest installment of Issa Rae’s HBO Max comedy about emerging female rappers in Miami covers Mia (KaMillion) being targeted on social media while Shawna (Aida Osman) distracts herself from a devastating breakup by hanging out with Maurice (Daniel Augustin). When the women reconvene at episode’s end, they decide to take on Chastity a.k.a. the Duke of Miami (Jonica Booth) as their manager, focusing their emotional energy into creativity.
“An undercurrent in the entire episode is ‘Can I trust you to be there for me?’ and that’s coming off of the episode before where we saw that that trust had been broken,” director Amy Aniobi told IndieWire via Zoom ahead of the episode. “Even though we end on on the moment that’s tied to a guy, the episode is not about the men. You need to start watching “Rap Sh!t” yesterday.
Created by Issa Rae, HBO Max’s new comedy series follows the story and perspective of Shawna (Aida Osman), an aspiring Miami rapper working at a hotel for the time being. When she teams up unexpectedly with Mia (KaMillion), their impromptu freestyle becomes a viral track and the start of a promising collaboration.
“Rap Sh!t” is hyperspecific, laugh-out-loud funny, and deeply engrossing. Osman and the cast shine with Rae’s once-again winning team of writers and directors. It’s a breakout comedy series that isn’t to be missed.
Here are five (more) reasons to watch “Rap Sh!t” on HBO Max.
1. The Artist’s Struggle
In the very first episode, Shawna laments the state of the rising rap community online, a cacophony of influencers, social climbers, and the appearance-obsessed, all notably lacking in the talent she knows she has. “Rap Sh!t...

On July 12, Issa Rae was in the middle of a meeting, largely unaware that Emmy nominations were being announced. Then she received a text from “A Black Lady Sketch Show” creator and star Robin Thede, congratulating her on being nominated for lead actress in a comedy.
“I had a little squeal that I let out in the meeting, and then kept it pushing, but I was happy,” Rae says.
And there was plenty to be happy about. In addition to her solo recognition, “Insecure” nabbed two other noms for editor Nena Erb and cinematographer Ava Berkofsky, plus “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” which Rae executive produces under her Hoorae multimedia banner alongside Thede, earned five nominations.
Despite two previous lead actress noms, Rae admits she was skeptical about being recognized this cycle, given that “Insecure” aired its fifth and final season in December 2021. But there wasn’t a ton of...

It was the height of quarantine, and Issa Rae wanted — in Bay Area rapper Saweetie’s proverbial words — “Something fun, something for the summertime. Something for the girls to get ready and party to.”
The final season of her seminal hit series “Insecure” was in production, and HBO Max had approached the Emmy-nominated co-creator and star’s team to ask what her next show was going to be about. The multi-hyphenate had long been wanting to tell a story about female rappers and eventually sent in the one-pager for what would become “Rap Sh!t” to Montrel McKay, her production company Hoorae’s film and television president, and her manager Jonathan Berry. They had no notes.
“Anything you see about Issa is what she believes in,” McKay told TheWrap about the show’s “straightforward” development process at the streamer. “If her name is on it, it’s things she’s been talking about for years.

Aida Osman and KaMillion hit the jackpot for their TV acting debuts. The writer turned actor and the Florida-born artist make up the fictional rap duo leading Issa Rae's new show, "Rap Sh!t." The half-hour HBO Max comedy - described as Rae's "sophomore album" - began as an early draft of the creator's 14-time Emmy-nominated "Insecure" series. However, it's since grown into a passion project paying homage to today's generation of women in hip-hop.
"I wouldn't even say it feels like pressure as much as it feels like an honor to have a built-in audience that's loyal and already loves Issa."

Issa Rae is Emmy-nominated for her performance in the final season of the breakout hit she created, Insecure. But the writer/actress/executive producer steps off screen for her new comedy about two estranged high school besties who reunite to form a Miami rap duo. “It’s different from Insecure in that it’s younger, and set very much in the now. It tells the story of their coming up in this male-dominated industry and what they have to put out there in the world to succeed,” says Rae who wrote the pilot and then refined the series with Syreeta Singleton, a writer on Insecure, Black Monday and other shows. Two real-life rappers were cast as the leads. Aida Osman plays Shawna, who dropped out of Spellman College after a music producer guaranteed she could “make it.” She didn’t. Instead, she’s tolerating spoiled customers at a hotel front desk job while recording earnest,...

“Rap Sh!t” may not be the follow-up some expect from Issa Rae, but it makes perfect sense. In “Insecure,” Rae made her affinity for rap well-known with her character Issa’s popular mirror performances. So “Rap Sh!t,” which Rae created, is not a radical departure in the least, and the explosion of female rappers like Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Doja Cat, Saweetie and others makes the timing ripe. In fact, the story itself bears a noticeable similarity to the rise of female rap duo City Girls, whose members Caresha “Yung Miami” Brownlee and Jatavia Shakara “Jt” Johnson coincidentally serve as executive producers.
Set in Miami, rappers Trina and City Girls’ hometown, “Rap Sh!t” follows one-time schoolmates Shawna and Mia who reconnect and begin forming their own rap duo. Since high school, the two women have been on different paths. Mia is a fledgling makeup artist and...

The improbable second life of Friends as Gen Z’s favorite streaming show raised many questions about why a sitcom that debuted before most Americans had heard of email would prove so resonant with a young, tech-savvy audience. Or, perhaps the low-fi nature of Monica, Chandler, and company’s interactions answered those questions, since some of these new viewers admitted to feeling envious that the Central Perk group hung out together without anyone’s face being buried in a device.

“Rap Sh!t” may be grounded in reality, but there’s something lightly surreal about the experience of watching it. Issa Rae’s new comedy, showrun by “Insecure” writer Syreeta Singleton and premiering July 21 on HBO Max, bobs and weaves between its stories and the ones its characters are constantly posting on Instagram. The camera adopts the perspective of their phones as they scroll and Facetime; people watch each other’s stories with suspicion and envy; onscreen graphics send a stream of comments and hearts up the sides of the screen. As friends Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion) chase their rapping dreams and the fame it would take to achieve them, they fastidiously document and post everything — everything — that could convince the world that they’re on the rise. And even when this TV approximation of social media doesn’t feel especially realistic in terms of its #content, seeing...

Insecurity may have been what Issa Rae began building her TV empire on, but her latest offering is anything but.
Rap Sh!t, Rae’s latest half-hour comedy series for HBO Max, is a case study in confidence; the show follows two estranged high school friends from Miami who form an unlikely rap group, determined to achieve their dreams of making waves in the music industry.
“I came up with the show while we were doing season five [of Insecure], and it’s always been gestating in my mind. I always wanted to do a show in the music world so I was like, ‘What’s a show that I want to watch right now that feels fun, of the moment, and that’s a reflection of the culture right now?’” Rae, who serves as head writer and executive producer, told The Hollywood Reporter...
