Awards season may well be over for another year in the world of film, with the Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes just a distant memory now. But on Sunday evening, one of the biggest nights in British TV, the BAFTA TV Awards — this year hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Ramesh Ranganathan — took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall. And on a night where the two most nominated shows, Black Mirror and The Crown, failed to snag a single win, Happy Valley, Top Boy, and The Sixth Commandment enjoyed great success in key categories, each taking home two awards apiece.
On the night, Sarah Lancashire won Leading Actress for her all-timer of a turn as police sergeant Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley, her second BAFTA for the same role. The show also snagged the public-voted Memorable Moment award for Catherine and Tommy Lee Royce’s (James Norton) remarkable final kitchen showdown.

Updated with complete winners list: Despite being up for four acting category awards, The Crown‘s final season left the BAFTA TV Awards empty handed tonight in London.
Elizabeth Debicki, Lesley Manville, Salim Daw and Dominic West were all snubbed, as the the likes of Matthew Macfadyen, Jasmine Jobson, Timothy Spall and Sarah Lancashire all triumphed and the Netflix show went out quietly.
There was also a major surprise in the International category, where little-known French drama Class Act beat the likes of Beef, The Bear and The Last of Us to win the prize. Among the most shocked was the show’s star Laurent Lafitte, who urged the audience to find and watch his show — to the amusement of the audience.

Máiréad Tyers’ first on-screen role straight out of drama school was in Kenneth Branagh’s “Belfast.” “You don’t really see me in the film at all,” she says. “[But] I’m so proud of it.” A year later, she wrapped her first leading role in U.K. Disney+ original comedy “Extraordinary.” In the show — basically a flatshare sitcom with a twist — Tyers plays 20-something Jen, who is messy, funny and the only person in the world without a superpower.
But Jen can also be selfish and occasionally obnoxious – mostly to her flatmates Carrie (Sofia Oxenham), Kash (Bilal Hasna) and, erm, Jizzlord (Luke Rollason) — and Tyers’ superpower is making her not just relatable, but likeable. So much so that the show, which was created and written by newcomer Emma Moran, has been renewed for a second season, which drops today on Disney+ and on Hulu in the U.S.

Being an adult is hard enough without being the only powerless person in a world of superpowers, but Jen (Máiréad Tyers) is getting through it. You know what’s Extraordinary? How instantly addictive Hulu‘s raunchy and really smart Britcom is. Season 2 of the hilarious tale set in a world where most folks develop superpowers by the age of 18 returns tomorrow with Gen Z’er Jen (Máiréad Tyers) still not showing any special skills. Of course, she’s got a bigger problem to deal with now that her shapeshifting new beau (Luke Rollason)—who spent three years trapped in the body of a cat—has run into family he doesn’t even remember having. And it’s only going to get crazier from there. “I think because we set up quite a juicy cliffhanger, it was actually quite easy to [plot this season],” says series creator Emma Moran, who sat down with Tyers and costar Sofia Oxenham last month in Pasadena, as you can see in the video above. “It sort of felt like in a way you...

Disney+ has released the trailer for the highly anticipated second season of the award-winning comedy ‘Extraordinary.’
Season two picks up where season one spectacularly left off, following Jen (Máiréad Tyers) on her powers journey as she enrols as a client at the power clinic. Jen soon discovers that the process of finding her power isn’t as easy as she hoped, and things in the rest of her life aren’t smooth sailing either. Ex-cat, now-boyfriend Jizzlord (Luke Rollason) has had an unexpected revelation about his past, and Kash (Bilal Hasna) and Carrie (Sofia Oxenham) are attempting to be totally mature and dignified about their break-up, which is not easy when they’re still living under the same roof. It seems that Jen and the gang are dealing with new levels of adulting and chaos that none of them are prepared for.

FX-produced Hulu series Under the Banner of Heaven, starring Andrew Garfield, and season 1 of British comedy series Extraordinary are set to come to U.K. TV giant ITV’s streamer Itvx in 2024 under a deal with Disney Entertainment.
ITV said on Thursday that Under the Banner of Heaven will stream on Itvx, with Extraordinary airing on both Itvx and ITV2. Both will launch in the first half of next year.
The news comes as Disney, led by CEO Bob Iger, has started looking for additional revenue by licensing some shows instead of keeping them exclusively for its own streaming services.
Under the Banner of Heaven, created by Academy Award winner Dustin Lance Black and starring Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones, is inspired by the true crime bestseller by Jon Krakauer and follows the events that led to the 1984 murder of Brenda Wright Lafferty (Edgar-Jones) and her baby daughter in a...

Not that long ago, the Disney Channel meant kids’ cartoons and shows about toothy pre-teens with crossover pop careers. Now, Disney+ (Hulu in the US) has a comedy series featuring a character named Jizzlord, and nothing means anything anymore. The term ‘Disney Adult’ may currently describe the kind of person who gets married in a Prince Eric wig on a cruise ship, but if this trend continues, we’re going to need it back.
Extraordinary is very definitely for adults. It’s an eight-episode London-set comedy with a filthy sense of humour and a rich premise. In its parallel world, everybody develops a superpower at 18. Flight, maybe, or super-strength, or invisibility… There are powers of the less classic variety too – the ability to summon sea life, say, or to turn anything (anything) into a Pdf. And then there’s Jen (Belfast’s Máiréad Tyers). She’s reached the age of...

Disney+ has handed a second season order to Extraordinary – the superhero series from up-and-coming writer Emma Moran and Killing Eve producer Sid Gentle – two days prior to first season launch.
The news was announced at the Extraordinary launch last night in London by Disney VP Scripted Content Johanna Devereaux.
Extraordinary launches later this week and follows Jen, a painfully self-aware 25-year-old woman who doesn’t have a superpower in a world where everyone else does. Adrift in a big, confusing world and armed with nothing but a bit of hope, Jen begins her journey to find her maybe-superpower.
Up-and-comer Máiréad Tyers leads alongside a cast including Sofia Oxenham, Bilal Hasna, Luke Rollason, Siobhán McSweeney and Patricia Allison.
The show is testament to the way in which Disney+ international originals mix younger talent with established names. Moran is an up-and-comer with a show on a slate featuring the likes of Sally Wainwright,...

“Extraordinary” could have been an anthology. The first season of the show spans eight episodes, and each contains the kind of possibility that could make them standalones. It’s a new comedy that takes place in a world where pretty much everyone has a superpower. There are people who can scale walls, walk through walls, fly above walls, lift up walls, or do other fantastical things that don’t involve walls.
After more than a handful of years past the mark when people get their power, Jen (Máiréad Tyers) is still waiting for hers. She’s romantically frustrated, treading water at her retail gig, and staring down the last of her mid-20s with not a lot to show for them. When she’s not gripped by anxiety about being the only “normal” adult she knows, she spends a good chunk amount of time with roommate Carrie (Sofia Oxenham), who...

“Extraordinary”, the new 8-episode comedy superhero TV series, directed by Toby McDonald, stars Máiréad Tyers as ‘Jen’ and Sofia Oxenham as ‘Carrie’, ), premiering January 25, 2023 on Hulu:
“…’Extraordinary’ is set in a world where everyone develops a power on their 18th birthday. Everyone everyone except for ‘Jen’. She's turning 25 and is still waiting to get hers. She's not even fussy about what that could be: super speed? Laser eyes? The ability to plug in a ‘Usb’ the right way every single time?
“She'll take it. Like a caterpillar surrounded by butterflies, Jen feels unable to move forward, stuck in a dead-end job in a party shop and occasionally hooking up with ‘Luke’, a flaky young man with the irritatingly cool ability to fly.
“ Adrift in a big, confusing world and armed with nothing but a bit of hope and a lot of desperation, Jen begins her journey to find her maybe-superpower.

Poldark becomes an espionage thriller in the season five premiere. Spoilers…
This Poldark review contains spoilers. It originally appeared on Den of Geek UK.
A spy for the English crown! Fancy that. Despite it being an annual tradition on Poldark for a person of rank to corner a reluctant Ross by the syllabub and force a position of power on him, that was a turn up for the books. Unless you’ve read the books, in which case it wasn’t.
Those who’ve read other books may recognise the name Edward Despard, a genuine chap of history whose exploits explain why Dwight was so keen for his pal to steer clear. Tell Ross Poldark that someone’s too dangerous? Oh, Dwight. You may as well put Despard in a Demelza wig and dip him in honey. Ross loves danger. After patrician responsibility and clifftop-staring, it’s his favourite thing.
