Anne Bancroft was born on September 17, 1931 in The Bronx, NY, the middle daughter of Michael Italiano (1905-2001), a dress pattern maker, and Mildred DiNapoli (1907-2010), a telephone operator. She made her cinema debut in Don't Bother to Knock (1952) in 1952, and over the next five years appeared in a lot of undistinguished movies such as Gorilla at Large (1954), Demetrius and the Gladiators (1954), New York Confidential (1955), Nightfall (1956) and The Girl in Black Stockings (1957). By 1957 she grew dissatisfied with the scripts she was getting, left the film business and spent the next five years doing plays on Broadway. She returned to screens in 1962 with her portrayal of Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker (1962), for which she won an Oscar. Bancroft went on to give acclaimed performances in The Pumpkin Eater (1964), The Slender Thread (1965), Young Winston (1972), The Prisoner of Second Avenue (1975), The Elephant Man (1980), To Be or Not to Be (1983), 84 Charing Cross Road (1987) and other movies, but her most famous role would be as Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate (1967). Her status as the "older woman" in the film is iconic, although in real life she was only eight years older than Katharine Ross and just six years older than Dustin Hoffman. Bancroft would later express her frustration over the fact that the film overshadowed her other work. Selective for much of her intermittent career, she appeared onscreen more frequently in the '90s and early '00s, playing a range of characters in such films as Love Potion No. 9 (1992), Point of No Return (1993), Home for the Holidays (1995), G.I. Jane (1997), Great Expectations (1998), Keeping the Faith (2000) and Up at the Villa (2000). She also started to make some TV films, including Deep in My Heart (1999) for which she won an Emmy. Sadly, on June 6, 2005, Bancroft passed away at the age of 73 from uterine cancer. Her death surprised many, as she had not disclosed her illness to the public. Among her survivors was her husband of 41 years, Mel Brooks, and their son Max Brooks, who was born in 1972. Her final film, the animated feature Delgo (2008), was released posthumously in 2008 and dedicated to her memory.- Actor

A distinguished-looking genre actor, Altamura was noted for his many appearances in Italian spaghetti westerns, peplum and swashbuckling adventure films in the 50s and 60s. Born and raised in Rome, the son of a military officer, Altamura was educated at the prestigious Liceo Classico, where he was able to study Latin, as well as history, literature and philosophy. After graduating, he began his career as a part-time animator and freelance journalist. He also did some voice acting on radio before making his motion picture debut in 1954. A first stage appearance followed seven years later in a production of Sacco and Vanzetti, in which he co-starred with Gian Maria Volontè.
On the screen, Altamura found himself often cast as men with gravitas, as in aristocrats, senators, governors, priests, scientists and bankers. On several occasions, he used his nom de plume of 'Tor Altmayer'. Many of his films starred international actors, tough guys like Gordon Mitchell (Atlas Against the Cyclops (1961)), Gordon Scott (Hero of Rome (1964)), Lex Barker (Pirates of the Coast (1960)), Guy Madison (Women of Devil's Island (1962)) and Pierre Brice (Invincible Masked Rider (1963)). Another frequent co-star in a slew of Hercules adventures was the Italian-American bodybuilder Mark Forest. Altamura's more high profile roles have included the Babylonian monarch Assur in Hercules and the Tyrants of Babylon (1964), the playwright and philosopher Seneca in the comedic Le calde notti di Poppea (1969), chief of police Ostermeyer in the giallo thriller A Black Veil for Lisa (1968) and 'Peter' in the Italo-western Blood for a Silver Dollar (1965) (a film which firmly established Giuliano Gemma as one of the leading protagonists of the genre).
Latterly active as a documentary film maker, Altamura was awarded a prize at a Salerno Film Festival in the early 70s for his documentary Itinerario differente.- Actor

- She was known both for her grace and exuberance as a British classical ballerina in the early years of the Royal Ballet, and helped lead the company into international prominence. The second most popular dancer of the company who was oft times left in the shadows to play "second lead" to life-long friend and peer Margot Fonteyn, Pamela May was nevertheless a British favorite especially in her interpretations of 19th-century classics.
She was born in San Fernando, Trinidad on May 30, 1917, and following intensive training with Ninette de Valois, made her debut in 1934 at the age of 17 with the Royal Ballet (which was initially called the Vic-Wells Ballet and later the Sadler's Wells Ballet). It was de Valois herself who changed her first name from Doris to Pamela. Both she and Fonteyn became the reigning stars of the Royal Ballet after 'Alicia Markova' left the company for an international career. Recurring knee injuries eventually forced Pamela to retire her ballet shoes in 1952. She did continue in mime pieces and occasional character roles, such as the Queen in "Swan Lake," until retiring altogether in 1982. From 1954 to 1977, Ms. May earned major recognition as a dance teacher at the Royal Ballet. Known over time for her colorful life off stage, this elegant blonde's impressive work includes her Odette/Odile in "Swan Lake," Princess Aurora in "The Sleeping Beauty," both the Red Queen and Black Queen in "Checkmate," Myrtha in "Giselle" and Fairy Godmother in "Cinderella."
Appearing in a few early TV shows and unbilled movie parts in the 1930's, she died on June 6, 2005 at age 88 in London. - Shoichi Kusano was born on 4 February 1931 in Tokyo, Japan.
